Great video! I've been to Lassen several times and to the peak once. I had a humorous experience there once. In the 90’s I took my two kids there for camping. I noticed the steam vents were a little more active than my last visit, Dante’s peak was a recent movie and of course there was Mt. St. Helens. At the campsite at two in the morning a loud siren went off. Everyone woke up and we were all thinking the ground was going to start shaking any time. Nothing happened and after a long 30 minutes everyone tried to go back to sleep. Three AM another loud siren, oh this must be it how do I get down the mountain? Then we saw a lonely golf cart come with a light on with a ranger. He said “sorry folks it was a false alarm” and quickly got back in the golf cart and disappeared down the road. I think I would have left in a hurry too. Lassen is indeed a beautiful park and well worth a visit.
As a child growing up between Shasta and Lassen, Dante’s peak scarred me! I will always put volcano eruption as one of my biggest fears and have even shied away from hot springs lol
@@steveblankenship5474 what an once in a lifetime experience! I guess you get a feeling for the forces of nature there, which is awe-inspiring and beautiful. ❤️👍
Another great video. Thank you for continuing to share your love of the National Parks. Do you have any plans to see the other National Parks outside of the lower 48?
God sure blessed you with beautiful weather in July. Those views were gorgeous. Now I want to go. When looking at the burnt out forest, I think about how God has designed the world to recover quickly from fires, volcanos, and world wide floods. In a few years, there will be brand new forest started to replace what was lost.
Right on! Amazing how the fire destruction, though sad to see, is good to regenerate the forest. Incredible how God's creation, like our bodies, is built to recover.

So fun to see this after being there. Well done, as always. We loved Lassen. Cold Boiling Spring was so amazing. The girls called it Heart Lake as, from our point of view, it was in the shape of a heart.
Another great video. I definitely think Lassen gets overshadowed by its more popular California neighbors like Yosemite, Death Valley, and Redwoods. Glad you and your wife had a fun time!
Beautiful place. I visited there in spring of 2019 and it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. It's a beautiful place that I hardly ever hear anything about.

Lassen has been one of the parks at the top of my list for several years now. I never knew about it until I found it looking at Google Maps and have wanted to visit ever since! You visited on my birthday, July 17, and looks like you guys had a great time with some great weather! As always, I really appreciate your videos. They always have great content and narration, thank you for what you do!
That's really encouraging to hear! :) Glad the video helped and hope you had/have a great trip! Kayla and I will always cherish that time with you guys at the Channel Islands! Take care!
Very underrated and beautiful NP. Just visited it 2 weeks ago. We were limited on time and only did the Bumpass Hell hike. Some day I hope to go back again.
Very nice video Randy. We've been to 38 of the NP's but never to Lassen. I've been meaning to get there but it is just so far from anything else. Was Subway Cave a lava tube? Beautiful park!
Beautiful video. Really still diggin' the cowboy? hat, too. Too bad you didn't get to see Bumpass Hell. That happened to you last time, too, right?. Is that thing open like a week a year or something?
Thanks for all of the fantastic tips in this video (and ALL of your videos). Using your video as a guide/tutorial, we just returned from our trip last night. On the itinerary were Lassen Peak, Bumpass Hell, King's Creek Falls, the Subway Cave Lava Tunnels and a few other trails. We successfully completed ALL of them! I have to agree with your last video that Lassen Peak was somewhat more difficult than one might expect. Not only is it an uphill incline all the way to the top, but the lack of shade for most of the hike is rough. Thankfully, with the right hats and wind jackets, it is very rewarding (and I even played in the snow at the top). The same was true with King's Creek Falls -- as much of the foliage along that hike was destroyed by the 2021 Dixie Fire. The falls were fantastic and the one-way hike up along the cascades reminded me of a smaller version of the Mist Trail in Yosemite. Bumpass Hell was a fairly easy hike -- except for the smell. Thanks again for all that you do, America's Parks! Many of us are following your example -- successfully following you after you've shown how to successfully complete these trails. I appreciate your honesty in all of your videos. Since watching your videos, I also began watching the videos of your church services and reading through the amazing quotes at your quote website. It's not often that you can say that things are "life-changing;" but, that word is very fitting here.
I’ll echo the comments that Lassen is underrated compared to Yosemite and other better-known national parks in California. I live a long drive away - first time I visited about 10 years ago, I wondered why I hadn’t done it sooner. Have been back several times over the years with my kids who have very fond memories of camping, hiking, and sightseeing. In addition to the sights off the main park road, I love the Butte Lake area but haven’t been into Warner Valley. I haven’t been back since the Dixie fire but have been meaning to go - I want to hike Brokeoff Mountain. Keep up the great work of your channel!!
Appreciate the kind words! Yes, wanted to hit the Warner district, but I understand it was crushed by the fire. I think they said it's a 2 mile hike just to reach the trailhead.
I was just there yesterday aug 26 did lassen peak just about all the snow is gone. Very small crowds just how I like it. Great park in my backyard wish I knew you where there would have been a pleasure to hike with you.
Loved reminiscing my many videos to Lassen. I have had a few adventures there. The one place you might have missed were the Painted Dunes. Beautiful and bizarre, I felt like I was walking on the moon!
This was great, very informative. I was going to go there is June of 2021 but a series of unfortunate events prevented it. I fully intend of getting back there some time in the future. This video really highlights how amazing it will be when I get there! Thank you for sharing it.

Yeah, hope so as well! This park is high elevation and possibly you might be confined to the either of the two entrances at that time of the year. Only one main road and it takes a while to open it up due to the snow.
I had some of the most wonderful summer vacations at Lassen. My brother and I still laugh about the time we got discount snowcrab legs in Redding, and he, Mom and I spent that afternoon boiling crab legs under a pine tree in the rain. If I recall correctly, it was the Manzanita Lake campground.
