Lassen would've definitely been one of California's most famous national parks with the volcanos, geothermal activity, and general Californian Alpine Nature all in one if it was more south, but hey, hidden gems are called gems for a reason.

I missed entering Yosemite last month, since I didn’t know we need reservation to go in Yosemite park. However I still got an amazing time at Oakhurst town though!

I can’t express enough how awesome Cinder Cone is. It was brutal as hell to get up, but it’s one of my favorite hikes of any National Park I’ve been to and I rarely hear people talk about it!

I was there in 1966, an Old Man told us about seeing it erupt from San Francisco; after his stint in the Great War he hiked to the top with a group. He said there were a lot of geysers and fumerals active in the crater. He also told us about enjoying the San Francisco Earthquake and the clean up & rebuilding.
When I was there in 1966 there were still a lot of broken trees from the 1915 eruption.

Cold Boiling Lake is an interesting point, too. It's essentially a thermal feature near the end of its life. The water in the lake is cold, and gasses bubble up from the shallow active spot at the lake's edge. It's accessed from the King's Creek Picnic Area and the trail leads into the back end of the Bumpass Hell boardwalk.

Butte lake, cinder cone, fantastic lava beds, painted dunes, snag lake, and the red cinder cone are all on the butte lake entrance of the park.. also the campground is decent, has running water and flushing toilets. So it’s easy to stay a few nights camping and hiking.. even swimming in the lake. Plus it’s not quite as busy there because of the lack of services.. it deters the people on day trips.
