Thank you for this! In Oistrakh's hands this concerto takes on the resonance of an old testament prophecy.
What an amazing description of this performance
Easily Shostakovich’s best concerto and among the best concertos in the twentieth century, he pours his heart and anguish into it and in the hands of the inimitable Oistrakh it becomes a piece of unparalleled beauty and intensity, music making at its very best.
Among the best concertos ever.
found out about this amazing soloist, and this incredible piece because of twosetviolin. this recording brought me tears I didn't even know I had in me.
also such a shame I'm from russ1a and I didn't even know such an amazing violinist was from soviet union. Oistrakh and Shostacovich himself are The people to be proud of and to remember
3rd movement (Cadenza) is genius
two geniuses, who suffered a lot under communism, but they are immortal and will live forever as long as there is someone who recognizes that this music is inspired by God. Memory eternal!
Merci pour le partage, c'est super !
Even his mistakes sounds god. So far, this is my favorite Violin concert.
Much more people should get in touch with this man.
Fantastique..!
Oistrakh incarne totalement cette musique. Unique.
The bass clarinet part for this is absolutely insane
Amazing!
Absolute, WICKED genius !!!
This is barely believable. The concerto, naturally, was dedicated to Oistrakh. And he totally owned it. His mastery of this can't be forgotten, at least as long as this video is available. Thank you so much. The Passacaglia and Burleska movements are especially beyond belief. Migod! I once heard Oistrakh doing the Tchaikovsky in Toronto, just as amazing. But this is something else again.
EPIC! MAGNIFICENT!!!!
Thank you
A mixture between a requiem and a brilliant virtous concerto
