I made many of these, from your first how-to, and lined them for my daughter and her husband to sell at Paintball Tournaments, where they compete, in two sizes. I lined the canvas bags with heavy, waterproof canvas to carry cleats, goggles and other kit. I added an exterior pocket on the back that has a pleated gusset and it both closes with a snap and snaps off completely, for smaller tools and supplies. They sold out immediately! I lined them cutting the liner slightly smaller than the full panel, one piece, and then made the bag as you did originally. I used 1" webbing for the handle. Love these so much! Thank you for sharing this pattern.
I really like the idea of using the double sided tape. It keeps things in place as you sew. Great project. Thank you so much for sharing. Blessings always. 😊
I think you have a very relaxing style of teaching, and very clear. I don’t sew fir selling, just for myself as a hobby. Usually I get bored or impatient with videos, especially when they have odd music and make you watch every step, even simple straight stitching. These are a great idea for shoes or take along slippers. Here in Canada, we need to always take indoor shoes along in the winter months when visiting friends.
That makes perfect sense. Over here, we don't have such inclement weather, and would never even think of bringing shoes with us. Thanks for sharing your part of the world😁
Thank you for the easy to follow video. I agree that an unlined bag is often a better option- especially when packing in a suitcase for traveling. Takes up less room, less weight and when not in use - less storage space. I used your original unlined shoe bag video technique to show my girlfriend how to make her own. She was a little tentative about adding a zipper, but with your easy to follow instructions- she was amazed how fast and easy it was. I always learn something new, or a great tip when watching each of your video tutorials- thank you so much for always sharing your talent.
Nicely done Christine , and so lovely of you to give credit to the other RUclipsr who showed you the way . I have made a shoe bag lined but it uses binding to cover the raw edges. I prefer this method and the instructions how to lengthen at 18 - 20 inches and expand or reduce the expansion by 0.5 inch .this will adjust for large men shoes …my nephew would appreciate a bag like this . He is off to college away from home so he can pack away his dress shoes in dorm neatly. You got me excited now and I am looking for hand made gifts to put in his graduation gift bag . I got two gifts bags to fill , my husband’s niece and my nephew. I can’t believe how time flies…. I was just holding them in my arms not too long ago … 18 years flew by! Great teaching video as always ! Tell mum to keep looking for these gems and then tell you about them …LOL . 😊 she’s too sweet !
I have to admit I found that video and tried both methods. I found this one easier and I've made several in this way which have turned out really well. But your instructions are great, as always. Cheers
Thanks for the video. I liked the idea of the longer handle though. I’ve made a few with the shorter handle and ended up wishing I had a longer handle to grasp.
Hi Christine! I just finished my first of this new pattern/methodology and it looks awesome. I have made many follow your previous pattern; however, I do like this one much more. If I may, I would recommend folks using a “clover hot ruler.“ when making the pleats. I found it much easier 😊Just a thought. Thanks again for another amazing video tutorial.☺️
Christine - as always, thank you for your tutorials! I am getting ready to purchase some double sided tape for sewing. I have found even just sewing some zipper pouches, the fabric likes to shift, so I have to square up the pouch before I sew everything closed. So glad you have shared this tip on most of your videos.
What a throwback! The shoe bag looks like one my mother had for her bowling shoes. I like the slightly longer handle you made on the grey bag. Easier to grab. If the fabrics are washable, I don’t think a lining is necessary. But it can make the bag prettier. Thanks Christine! 🇨🇦
What a neat technique! If I were going to use them for shoes, and wanted it lined, I would use waterproof canvas so it could be wiped off if the shoes were dirty.
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs After thinking about it. PUL fabric would be less bulky. Like what diaper covers are made from. I am sure it would mostly help with kids shoes. Hopefully adults don't get theirs quite as dirty. But you never know!
Thanks Christine the tape is so good when putting zips in just finished making your tote bag made a few mistakes but turned out good when I quilted the tote had to use my walking food as the normal foot made it pucker so have a nice day will get a picture up onto your web site soon
Christine, what do they call that finger protector foot attachment? I'm teaching young grandchildren to sew and am thinking one of these would be great if I can get one for my Janome HD9
Do you wash any or all of your donated fabrics? I just received some large decorator fabric rolls that the first yard or more on the outside is dirty and the tops and bottoms are really dirty. Is it worth time and effort to wash and iron this fabric if it is only the outside layer?
Jill, I'd cut off the dirty section and just wash that. I don't prewash any fabric unless it needs it. Just out of curiosity, I'd also measure the fabric before washing and drying to see if it shrinks. It's good information for your customers 😀
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs Thank you, I just decided this last week that I wanted to really try sewing to sell. I figure it may take me at least 3-6 months to find what I am actually able to produce affordably and well and create an inventory to start out with. Your videos have been a huge inspiration. Sourcing reasonable priced fabric is the first step.
FYI OFF TOPIC COMMENT! I saw a cute book cover tutorial and thought to myself, Self, wouldn't it be great if there was a one size fits all paperback book bookcover with an expandable or stretchy spine and a closure and handle?! But then Self reminded me that I'm no good at design. So maybe you have an idea or suggestion?
Hard to sell anything hand made /home made in the UK . Would want you to hand them for free if it's possible or would come up with nasty comments about your items and prices if you tell them how much time and money you have invested in your crafts . Good luck and thank you for sharing .
I don't think the new version and this one is any easier. It atully seems WAY more complicated. Frankly, I had a hard time understanding the whole thing. The other way was so straight forward and easy to understand.
If you enjoyed this video & feel like giving something back to the channel, you can do that here..... www.buymeacoffee.com/stitchthisr

Thank you!!! I’m going to make one for school for switching into my nursing shoes from my winter shoes.
That's a great idea😁

This is why I love using it so much. I have more control over the fabric😁
Thanks Christine, very easy way of making these. They are great.
Thanks Janet. Easier than my first lined attempt too😁

My pleasure Barbara. I prefer the unlined ones for my dance shoes, and just wash then when needed😁
Thank you for the thorough tutorial💕

My pleasure Faye. These have been very popular at footy season😁

You certainly can do this Cynthia. I have complete faith in you😁

Great job!
Thank you Jan😁
Unlined for shoes is a “best option” if I was asked 😉
Agreed. I use the unlined, and wash them when needed😁
Iam busy with a cosmetic bag the linning is also 1 piece of fabric u just cut it a little bit smaller
Souns like a fun project Nicolette😀
Thank you so much for your tutorials! What type of machine do you have please?
Thanks Theresa. I have a Prosew industrial. You'll find the video review in a playlist😁
Christine, what do they call that finger protector foot attachment? I'm teaching young grandchildren to sew and am thinking one of these would be great if I can get one for my Janome HD9
Palma, I just call it a finger guard for industrial machines😁

Also interested is a book cover tutorial please
I was unable to tell if there are raw edges showing inside.
No raw edges
There are no raw edges at all😁
Ethical sewing. What price do you put on these bags? I have a huge charity project on the go. 😮
Gabrielle, I sell the unlined bags for $20 au each😁
