    I'm so happy you are able to return to sewing! I really enjoy learning from your tutorials. I want to share a tip from my visually impaired Aunt about bag linings. When you make the lining a light color it is much easier to find things in your bag. Thanks for another great tutorial!

    All the bags are nifty. I like the second from left as it’s viewed on screen (your right). Probably b/c of how the fabric sits. Enjoyed the various corner cuts, especially when the top is slightly smaller. Good design. I prefer to make my boxy bags Dopp style b/c the zip opens across the top AND down the ends a bit. For me it improves access. It’s wonderful to see you sewing again. I hope you’re not overdoing. We all have a vested interest in you - you’re our Sewing Guru and Inspiration Guide! Thanks for a great show. ❤

  • @Amritadivya54
    @Amritadivya54 11 месяцев назад

    As to the "floopy" bags: I would have used a firm interfacing rather than the wadding/batting. I agree that the handles are too short for all of the bags. I did find it challenging to keep the variables straight in my head with going back and forth from each bag. Since you have so much free fabric, why not use some of the more uninteresting fabrics as the interfacing? I'm sure your machine could handle that no problem! --unless it would make the bag too heavy??? I have used clean heavy plastic packaging as interfacing in bags. It adds more water proofing and helps keep the plastic that cannot be recycled out of the landfill. Thanks for showing the boxing at the top as well as the bottom. I have only seen videos similar to yours with boxing on the bottom, but it helps solve what to do with the ends of the zip nicely. Thank you!!

    Christine have you ever seen the boxes corners first before the side and/or bottom seams? I saw a tutorial where they did that n it seemed a little bit easier n then there’s just one seam all around except for the opening on the lining side to turn the bag.
    Another tip I have is to stitch in the ditch for a few inches on the sides to keep the lining n bag together better.

    Hi. I love your tutorials. I always enjoy them
    I want to know if there is a formula for boxed corners in any size for making a perfectly square base?
    Ive seen heaps of boxed bag tutorials, but haven’t found one that describes how to get a perfectly square bottom - for toy bags etc for any size bag?
    I know I could sew a square into the bottom. But I don’t want to. Boxing the corners is so much easier.
    If only I could work out how to work out how to get a square base on any size. There must be a ratio but I can’t work it out myself as I have dyscalculia. 😢

    • @ChristinesHomeAffairs
      @ChristinesHomeAffairs  2 месяца назад

      If you want a bag that is say 10" x 10" across the bottom and 10" high, your boxed corners would be 5" each. Fabric would be 15" High x 20" Wide, but don't forget to allow for your seams😀

    I love your tutorial on boxed corners. But I still have a question, when you cut a 4” square out of the fabric is your bottom width of the bag 8”? So if I wanted to make an existing bag pattern 4” in depth do I cut a 2” square and then add that 2” back to the top of the bag to get the original height of the bag? Thank you.

      Don't forget your seam allowance. If you have 1/2" seam, and cut 4", then you'd have 9" across the bottom😁

    Christine, do you like 2 straps or a single strap on the bags?

    I was wondering if you always put your label in the middle is the bag fabric instead of in a side seam.

      Yes, they're usually in the centre somewhere. These ones don't suit side seams 😄

    Thanks for the making the bags tutorial. The corner are easy to make compare to other video. Like #4 bag.

    In your boxed bags, you and I had mentioned a shaving kit with rigid edging. Did you ever figure out how to do an edging like that? I couldn't send the picture as I don't know how.

      Patricia, I've tried doing a Google image search, but not sure what you have in mind. Do you have an image you can email me?

    How do you go about to get reclaimed upholstery fabric

    After re-watching (to help things sink in) I noticed that on the 1st 2 bags you did not adjust for the seam allowance and wait to use the standard foot; while in the 2nd 2 you adjust for the seam allowance and say that you are using a zipper foot although its hard to tell if you actually changed feet--this made things a bit confusing-but overall it is still very helpful

      Karen, athough I didn't mention it, I used the same zipper foot for inserting the zips on all four bags. Seam allowances were also the same, except for the position of the folds, and you're right, that was an oversight on my behalf. I should have mentioned that😊
