@@cathyswope5174 they’re addictive yet therapeutic to make 😀I loved making these letters. I know exactly what you mean as I want to make more and put them on the back of a Jean jacket.
Your tutorial was so thorough and good. I definitely want to do this. I hadn’t thought of putting the letters on batting. I bet that works really well.
My sister told me I had to watch this video. Glad she did cause with pre-teen & teenage granddaughters, they will like shirts decorated this way! Thanks for the video & to my sister!
I love that your sister shared this with you what a great gift for your preteen and teenage granddaughters ❤️Be sure to come back and let me know how they like what you create for them 😀
My "old school " mom used to use cookie cutters and trace them and sew those onto our sweatshirts and then iron them on and do a zig-zag around the borders. Sometimes she would handstitch around them for that "vintage" look.
Glad you loved the idea! I’ve been having so much fun making these patchwork letters. 🤷🏻♀️just keeping it real, it’s not easy to film video without mistakes 😂
This was an awesome tutorial!!! I have recently started using stay tape, which is narrow and washes away, so I might try that to hold down my letters. Your shirts turned out so lovely!!
This is the cutest idea!❤❤ I think I’ll skip the initial outlining stitch and just flip the batting, like foundation piecing to cut corners because I’m lazy. 😂 But otherwise this is the best lettering tutorial I’ve seen. Totally inspired! 💫
Nice tutorial, thank you. I would like to make letters with poly-fil for toddlers to play with and learn letter recognition. Have you ever done a tutorial for something like that?
So glad I found your channel. This tutorial is wonderful and well-explained. I’m a newbie, but I feel I could do this. I love the color of the purple sweatshirt, as well as the lines and side seams. Would you mind sharing the brand of sweatshirt? Thank you.
You can do it! I found my sweatshirts at Walmart as that's basically the only store around where I live :-). The brand is Time and Tru and this one has the split at the side seam and a high-low hem. Thanks for watching!
Hi Sharon my first visit took and I’m very happy to be here. I have been quilting for a while but have been following another very clever lady and making bags and wallets but I now find myself need in to make some quilts. One question about the letters please. I made a baby quilt and had to do the letters back to front but I noticed yours are the right way around. Any idea why I would have done that please? Now to watch the tutorial. Thank you warm loves from Wales in GB xxxxxx
If you are using fusible webbing (a web of glue with paper on one side like WonderUnder or Heat 'N Bond), you trace the letter mirror image on the paper side of the product. Then cut the letter and place it paper side up on the wrong side of the fabric and fuse it. When cool, cut around the letter then remove the paper. When you turn the letter to the right side, the fusible glue is on the back so you can lay the letter on your project and fuse it. If you use Heat 'N Bond ULTRA, do not sew over it. Always read the directions. If you get the glue on your iron, look up how to remove it. The fusible web is more for using a single fabric, not many. Also, rather than cut individual letters or shapes, you can trace many mirror images close together on the paper side, cut around the unit of letters, and fuse the one unit of letters to wrong side of fabric, then cool and cut the shapes before removing the paper. Make sure your fabric type can handle the heat setting required. FYI: Some like to use the Minky fabric that has a raised dot texture for the back of quilts. If you iron on the raised dots, they will permanently flatten.
Hi! What a great idea for your grands! I created mine in Canva, and used the font "TAN St. Canard" at 421 pt. You can use any font you want but I suggest using a Sans Serif just means it doesn't have the extra decorative strokes on the letters as those can get tricky to appliqué.
Now i want to make patchwork letters and put them on everything 😊♥️♥️♥️

Thanks! Glad you decided to do a simple video for some of the new generation sewing peoples.
This is so cool. I was thinking oh I have to sew each one of the stripes on one at a time but this is a really easy way to do this. I'm impressed
Thank you for the great tutorial! I can't wait to do this. I'm looking forward to seeing your future tutorials. 😊
Love your Fur -baby!❤
What a clever idea. I'm a deaf and hard of hearing teacher. I'm making one that says DHH. It will be so cute!
Love your patchwork letters - with an added backing fabric I could see them being made into name bunting 😍
That is such a cute idea! Thanks for watching and sharing your idea 😀
Nice idea. You can also sew the letters on another fabric in a rectangle and then sew the rectangle onto the sweatshirt.
Thanks for sharing! I hadn’t thought of that and I love that idea 😀
Great idea! I like the way you think. 😊

Thank you! I liked it on batting because it gave it a bit of extra texture.
Thank you for this Sharon. Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Great tip! I use that for hems but I never thought about using it to hold application in place. Thanks!

I really loved this tutorial. Did you prewash your sweatshirt?
Thank you. Yes I did pre-wash the sweatshirts but I pre-wash thing I purchased before I wear it anyway
I like to copy a page from coloring books...and do the same techniques.
Can you link the source for the font? I would like to do school names for my grands.
I'm pretty sure u can make the letters yourself
