Years ago when I was working in a pub, a customer have me a listen to a album of hers and I still remember this song. Every time there is a afternoon sun shower and the sun is shining through the rain, I think of that line from thos song, ... And he shook it, and it rained like silver, and he shook it and shined like Gold
OMG, Not much of a fan of Country Music and Never Ever heard of this Artist BUT don't know why while I was jamming to my Pandora music, This song popped on and OMG Was I Shocked and Absolutely Impressed by This!! WOW!!
I never was an Elvis fan and barely heard his music except to the extent one will just by existing a few decades. After hearing this song, I feel like I was a lifelong fan of his and heard all his albums hundreds of times and went to a bunch of his shows. I can't understand how Gillian Welch does that. It's remarkable.
She was thinking about Elvis the day that he died...because he died from a fatal, drug-induced cardiac event after struggling on the toilet for god only knows how long due to a nearly fatal diet on its own...and most likely armed to the teeth for absolutely no other reason than hailing from Tupelo, Mississippi. That is in all probability why she was thinking about Elvis the day that he died.

Humanizes Elvis
Well said!
Probably the best song about the King... ever!
Agreed.
no doubt
Accurate
The real deal. Gillian is beautiful--her voice is true. And together, they are really perfect.
Love this song. “Bless my soul what’s wrong with me, I’m itching like a bear on a fuzzy tree”
Yes
What an artist she is. This is art for the ear...so tasty...so gentle - and if you loved Elvis (like me) it's a valentine.
Happy Valentine's Day to you and Gillian
They are an American treasure
a love letter.... straight to the heart.

@@pamelawade8406 you shouldn't cry on ELVIS' birthday. He wouldn't like that. Save your tears for August 16th,
This song makes me reminds me of my grandma's kitchen. It smelled of fried food and Winston Salems', but it was so warm and homey like.
i can almost see it, smell it, hear it and feel it in ole nanas kitchen.
@@mikepryor7467 The strong old bones of many families are in nanas kitchen. Keep the pot bubbling Mike.

Was this filmed at Sun Studio in Memphis?
Love her…
wow
Angelic ❤️
I THOUGHT she said "DID HE DIE" --- but it's "the DAY THAT HE DIED"! Love the song MUCH BETTER NOW. HAUNTING x 100,00,000.
I thought she said didn't he die😅
I hear a strong trace of Mississippi John Hurt in this, and just a touch of Elizabeth Cotten.
I wonder why the official video is here? Too bad the sound is so muted.

Great song. But this version is missing the middle verse which I quite liked.
Sound is so muffled...

Certainly not like Tom Jones's version! LOL
