The Intrepid is _the_ starter ship that I've been waiting for for years. Crusader starter, best habitation thus far, interesting cargo bay that I love a lot, and the external design grew on me.
From my testing I was able to tractor a 1 SCU box out of the cargo area and into the engineering section. The only boxes I could pull without having them get eaten by the wall were the boxes snapped on the leftmost cargo spot
I put 3 boxes through the stairs, but couldn’t get them through the engineering door so they had to stay in the hallway. I couldn’t tractor the boxes out of the grid, but with that I got it up to 11 scu. I need to try getting the one from that last grid
I think the Intrepid having its own engineering panel inside the ship is something that doesn't get discussed enough, even considering we don't know enough about engineering gameplay yet. But we can be certain that being able to do engineering anywhere in the verse instead of needing to go to a station/LZ can potentially be a HUGE advantage. We tend to always compare ship value in terms of their peak performance but degradation and maintenance are coming. And eventually we won't be able to reclaim our ships as we please. Our metric for judging ship value will need to change too.
i do not think the fuel is anything bad at all, and imo its required for balance. if you want a starter that ONLY focuses on travel distance, the you have the cutter rambler. if you want a starter that focuses on combat then the titan is the best one. and if you want something in between these two then you go intrepid. its all up to how much fuel you want vs firepower
cutter rambler is nerfed to only have 1scu of QT as of 4.0 . So you see, stats are only temporary, nerfing happens whever CIG marketing division feels like it.
I don't think the fuel is sus at all. Currently the fuel is balanced based on archetype, and the Intrepid is a bit better than the Cutter, and a bit worse than the Cutter Rambler. I think CIG intend the Intrepid to be a long range starter, as opposed to the Avenger Titan, which is a retired fighter interceptor
bad news. cutter is nerfed across the board as of 4.0, amd rambler only have 1scu now. Next time ppl buy ships, focus on something that wont be rebalanced that easily
Love this ship, gonna use mine a little runabout. The single size 4 gun does ok, could use a second shield generator. It’s fast, nimble and fun to fly!
QT fuel is not something we can trust at all for balance right now, recently ships ment for extended distance like the banu defender got nerfed to 0.7 "less than this ship" which makes no sense
Don't forget to complete IAE Acadamy: just do regular bounty VLRT or whatever and any Hauling mission plus visit expo (mining or doing the Star Citizen tutorial are possible options as well, but any 3 of 5 required) and you're done. It'll say complete on the IAE schedule page. IAE 2954 In-Game Event Shirt (White) Combat Career kit: ORC-mkX Singularity Armor Set Stoneskin Undersuit P4-AR “Nightstalker” Rifle Gemini L86 Pistol
This fugly little ship grew on me. Still needs some maturing though. The cargo grids will snap containers to them, but trying courier missions with 1/8 scu boxes inside armistice zones is an issue. The boxes are best brought into the ship via the ramp and placed on the deck somewhere until they can be snapped on to the grid with a tractor outside armistice, otherwise they will clip through the floor when closing the bays. As for the fuel, they did something similar last year with the Cutter when it was first released. It had a ridiculously large fuel capacity compared to all other ships in it's class. After IAE it was hit in the knees with the balance bat and lost a large chunk of it's capacity. I agree that we will likely see Intrepid smacked with the same bat in 4.x
biggest reason i immediately bought the ship beside interior was 1.2 scu quantum fuel...as i dont want bigger ship as solo anyway and this ship alows me to jump to pyro when available, if they nerf it, its gonna be very bad
They should allow us to put extra fuel in cargo containers. Not 1:1, since quantum fuel probably needs to be stabilized for transport, but maybe 1/8 or 1/4 SCU fuel in a 1 SCU box.
After renting and test flying, I've changed my opinion on the Intrepid. But I'm still curious: why make a shelf for cartons but make them different sizes, so the middle shelf behaves separately? And they are still locating cargo holds that can't be loaded/unloaded without collision issues. This shouldn't still be happening. Great little ship but unfortunately suffering from old lessons that CIG don't appear to have learned.
I can understand having the locking ability to the cockpit area but being able to lock the toilet on a single player ship has me baffled. Nice review btw.
People buy Crusader for performance...unfortunately...CIG ALWAYS nerfs their performance after the sale period, or sometimes a little later. I am a big Crusader ship fan, but I am really tired of getting let down by post sale nerfs, so for the first time, I have been melting some Crusader ships. I have had them all, and it has happened to every single one of them in some way. So sad! The Intrepid got its looks nerfed even before the sale, maybe they will leave it alone for selling the first completely ugly Crusader ship. On second thought, no...the will nerf the hell out of it like all the others. I rented it in PTU and I was able to get 13 total SCU in 1 SCU boxes on the sleds and inside. They are easy to get out though, just touch the wall with them and they unload themselves...lol. The rank of the cargo mission does not set the box sizes, but the size stated on the mission will. you can only do extra small size cargo missions as they are limited to 1 SCU boxes.
It's not super maneuverable. It accelerates quickly and is decently fast in a straight line but feels a little sluggish on the turns for such a small ship. I think it'll stay where it is for a while.
The only thing wrong with this ship is the landing height. It needs to be adjusted like the 400i had happen to it. Need to be able to get a pulse or crusader equivalent vehicle in there.
thx again for this very good video. :) Hadn't thought it could be even this usefull for all that missions. I think Titan is allways better, but Intrepid is ok, too, for a (to expensive) starter... Did You really use the Cargo Bays as landing gear on one shot? :) Hey, how about testing the Intrepid as a Drop ship? :D Like a clown car, opening the cargo bays and popping out a lot of people as there is a lot of interiour space for people standing :D :D :D
It's bigger and has a lot more spare "room" to put fuel than the Titan. Titan is overpowered compared to where it should be, so they give it short range.
They already nerfed the fuel of the cutter, scout cutter and syulen to .5 scu and the cutter rambler to just 1scu for 4.0. They kept the intrepid at 1.2 😬
Im sorry, but i am going to keep posting this on every ship review of this i find. But the Intrepid is the worse ship CIG has ever released. I am convinced they made this just to sell an LTI token in a game package on discount where you only pay 3 bucks for game access. Its 5 dollars more expensive than the Stalker, Titan and 300i, and is literally worse than all of them in every single metric. Slower SCM speed than Titan. Slower Max speed. Worse pitch, yaw and roll. Half the shielding. Cargo is spilt so you cant even park a vehicle in the back like you can the titan. It has a single s4 gun to several other ships doing the same role, (Titan. 300I) Which both can equip 2 s3s. I have seen several people at this point loose VLRTs in this to prospectors and Auroras. The only thing this ship does better is having a bigger QT fuel tank. Which with all the other drawbacks makes it not worth 5 dollars more. Especially when the 315p is the exact same price, carries 4 more scu, better scm, max, yaw, roll, pitch. An can equip 2 s3s, which can output more dps than the single s4. Double thr shields as well. All that bring me back to the point, there is no point to this ship and no reason to fly it when its statiscally the worst ship implemented. Buying this ship could lead to multiple outcomes. Either it gets buffed to at least do one thing better than a ship cheaper than it. Or worse case, since they lied about its role, they makes those cheaper starter ships worse.
That's so scammy move to leave this 1,2 qt while they nerf everything else just while ago. I'm so fukking sure they nerf this too after everyone has buy it who is gonna buy it. so just don't buy it. least until its has been nerfed
This is the best ship review for Star Citizen I have seen by far on RUclips. Your the only one I've seen who focuses on the ggameplay of the ship for its intendee role. If I could tip you, I would. It's weird they are marketing this as cargo ship but it can't do the intro cargo hauling mission like the Avenger Titan.
Yeah and he waited until it was actually released! All the reviews that came out when it was on the PTU and then had to have a re-review after the weapon change was really bad. It could change again but like...at least wait until it's on the live servers
Range. People sleep on range because all y'all know is small af Stanton with a gas station at every corner. Wait till you can't land just anywhere to refuel because of rep. And that's not too far off. Already testing in 4.0.
The Intrepid has more hull space than the Avenger for more fuel. Intrepid is a very fun ship to fly with good amenities for an advanced starter.
I wouldn't consider that a starter at $65 USD. It is anything but

I had the same experience. I got it to hold 12 SCU! Took a while and some trial and error though.

This video has made this ship a lot more appealing....

I like it, immediate thought was a pulse racing team ship but hey go maybe not.

Lovely in black paint. 1scu qt fuel for pyro jump? Ty for vid. 👍
Brilliant review! Exactly what was needed! Thanks! 😀 ❤

They have prevented boxes from doing damage to ship recently.
this bad boy could have had so much more cargo space if the components were in the hallway
The cargo mission at the end there just felt sad lol
Shooting way bigger ships is easy in this thing but a VLRT -LRT can get you killed fast!
They already nerfed the fuel of the cutter, scout cutter and syulen to .5 scu and the cutter rambler to just 1scu for 4.0.
They kept the intrepid at 1.2 😬
i actually just got this today ...going to be my delivery Ship
Try turning the pulse upright (bottom down) on the cargo grid.
The pulse, when on the beam, always wants to flip upside down..... like *always.*

@DaKineGuy Well said 👏🏾
Can you put a ballistic Gatling on it to turn it into a mini-Inferno?
Yes, you can put a revenant or an ad4b for gatling, or a deadbolt 4 for cannon on it.
After trying it, only gameplay loop i see it suited for is larping
Where did you get this paint??
E which paint is that on the ship?
How did you get that paint?
I feel like this ship is completely outclassed by the avenger titan in every respect, except interior niceness

The intrepid can carry more cargo than the Avenger if you store the cargo in the engineering room.
