picked one of these up during IAE... this is my new favorite brawler. Has firepower to take down some beefy targets, sneaky enough to get within range without alerting enemies, and tanky enough to survive an encounter. out of the three HRT bounties i did with the stock Sabre, twice i fly back with a lot of the ship in the red, but it was still flying. this thing is a permanent addition to my hangar
Indeed, I love the whole series of the sword from Aegis and my two favorites are the Sabre in its so-called normal and stealthy version, as well as the Firebird to play like a real coward and run away The mixture of the two, namely a stealthy Firebird would be the King of the Verse, surely If the ship had the manoeuvrability and speed of the Peregrine, it would be the God of the Verse
I'm loving the Sabre too. I wanted to be more of a heavy fighter guy (I have a Harbinger, Sentinel, and F8C) but I just play so much better in the Sabre. You will always get to pick the engagement and when properly min maxed can actually take some good hits. I'm kind torn between 2 builds though, 4 x Attrition-3s or 4 x M5As. Attritions have more power draw so you can't actually get to the max ammo count (60 instead of 75) and have very nice dps but I like the bursty nature of the M5As a bit better. When you hvae those short firing windows I like to see maximum impact and your Stealth Powerplant sill gets you to 15/15 max recharge rate on the M5A setup. I came to the same conclusion as you on its profile though. It has the same rate for both pitch and yaw and even though its my habit in flying games to roll then pitch for tight turns that leaves you so exposed on the Sabre compared to just yawing and taking advantage of your flat Reliant and Eclipse like profile. Once I started using yaw strafing for turns I took a ton less damage.
Which of the Sabres do you prefere, Sabre base or Sabre Firebird and what difference do you see in play style for both of these ships? I upgraded from the base to the Firebird, but I never liked the fact that it is a missile boat
Hey! I definitely lean towards flying the original Sabre more than the Firebird, especially because I'm all about dogfights. You know, getting right in your opponent's face and duking it out until someone blows up. The Sabre is awesome for that-if you know what you're doing, it can really do some damage. But when it comes to fighting with a squad, it's a bit of a different story. The thing is kind of wide, so if you're getting ganged up on, it’s super easy to get hit. It rocks in 1v1s but in bigger team fights, not so much. Now, the Firebird? It's not great for face-to-face combat. It's more about chasing down folks and spamming missiles. If someone's coming at you head-on, best bet is to turn tail and zip out of there with its interceptor setup, which it's pretty good at. In team fights, it's way more useful. You can hang back a bit, let missiles fly from like 1.6km out, and either blast those medium or light fighters to bits or at least shake them up for an easy takedown. It's fun to play around with, but honestly, I’d only pick it for certain team fights. Hope this answered your question! 🙏
A little late to the party, but this has been so nice. I've been sitting on the Sabre since its original concept waiting for the day it'd be good. It finally arrived with this patch and I've been feasting the last two months. Player consensus is still that the Sabre is bad, and I hope it stays that way. I don't want CIG to nerf this thing! After 9 years it's finally good!
Reluctant to melt the F7A MkII for it. But lately most of my time in Arena Commander I’m just getting wiped good players in gladius’s. Do you think that and/or the Sabre are meta now?
Ya the hornet took a big hit, but it still super strong and very viable. I don't even think you can melt the F7A, but even if you could, I wouldnt personal melt it. The thing can still do its job, it's just a bit worse at it right now. I truely love the sabre and it dose feel a tad better than the hornet currently but I really don't think its worth it. The gladius on the other hand, is meta for sure but if you want to try something that just better, give the fury a try! :P I hope this helped :) Thanks for the comment!
Haha, I have like 100 of them in my hanger :P Are you enjoying them? They seem pretty strong but are incredible hard to aim compared to NDBS and Panthers
@Babushka_Bob I apply the weapon components, and then spawn the ship, detach the components put them in the personal elevator, and then respawn the ship with new guns. Rense and repeat (:
Hey Spelljammer! Cool name btw! It might not seem like it, but if you look closely, you'll see it flying around my ship. It's never in the middle of the screen, because in zero gravity, there's no air resistance! So it doesn't really add any efficiency. (but keep in mind, I always know where it is) But in the atmosphere, you always have to place the TVI close to your ship for better acceleration and speed! Thanks for the support! I hope this helped!
@@spatialmonkeys makes sense re: atmosphere. so in space dogfights you basically constantly strafe at nearly full axis range to match or avoid your opponent's position, right?
Absolutely! and then it got nerfed to the ground and now its back :) in 3.17 all the way to 3.22 it was one of the best ships when it came to atmospheric battles! But absolutely useless in zero g! i just love that its viable now!
Scatter guns are not useful unless you can close the distance.. Against any good player, I think it would be really tough. The fl33 are super fast and do decent damage. You can use them to snipe people with very high accuracy! I wouldnt run Dominance but you can always try! but I warn you.. it wont be fun xD
Im not much of a fighter v fighter guy, I like big ships fleet combat and with crew game play coming fighter want have much of a place in Cap ship combat, you're more of a good few sec distraction befor you died. But nice to see they are still give them the love they need.
I appreciate the optimism, but it feels like we're playing a different game. As things stand, nothing smaller than a heavy fighter stands a chance. One of our ace pilots managed to take down a fully crewed Hammerhead single-handedly with an F8 in under three minutes. I hope that capital ships can eventually find a meaningful use case, but given the current state of the game, that seems quite far-fetched. (: thanks for your comment buddy!
And then CIG explained that cap ships will have shield emitters on them, allowing squads of fighters to take them and the autodefence guns down - with skills, not easily mind you. But no, fighters won't be useless. They will keep your cap ship safe. CIG wants that scene in the S42 demo to be a viable tactic.

LOL.. haven't seen weekly wipes since like 3.14 or maybe even longer. I don't even remember which year was it. 2020, 21? Trains are just one of those things which really tests your patience, but that's literally the whole SC. 😁 Space stations don't have trains though. I live there, not in cities. 😏

@spatialmonkeys yea it is... and the power management for it is just right to give enough power to everything without sacrificing another system

This has been my favorite ship for a long time even before the recent buffs.
I don't blame you! It is an awesome ship!
Great guide video!
Glad you think so! 😅
Damn you are right about the saber buffs! It is feeling powerful
Its absolutely a blast to fly! Have yet to try it in atmo though! Should be good though! 🙂

That's cool that it got buffed. Unfortunately it'll just get rolled by missile spam from a firebird though lol

@callsigngrimdoll It is meta for sure, but I wouldn't use it personally. A tad bit different to my play style 😂
