  • In this video I replace the thermostat and water control valve on a 2011 Nissan Altima 2.5. This did finally cure the problem of the fluctuating temperature gauge. Started by draining out the coolant www.amsoil.com/c/antifreeze-c... that I had just changed in the previous video. After the thermostats were done I used the Ares vacuum type cooling system refill tool available on Amazon to draw a vacuum on the system and refill. In the course of things I also address the PCV valve though I am waiting on the new one to arrive. I also addressed the air filter. A final test drive showed the car to be fixed! www.number1synthetic.com is my website to learn more about Amsoil products. don't forget to subscribe and please share the video with someone who may be interested thank you

    I just did my daughters 2.5L head and a couple of notes for your oil on the valve cover: 1) That pcv tube is silly affordable from the Nissan dealer, I think I paid $7.40 -- you never know with the dealer but this one is cheap. 2) The Valve cover will leak like crazy from the O rings around the plug coils after around 80K miles. You cannot buy the O rings separately I've found. Fortunately the complete replacement cover is reasonable in the aftermarket. The plug wells will fill with oil and lead to misfires and that process can start without a lot of evidence on the top of the cover..

    Hello. I have a 2010 Altima 2.5L. My check engine light is on due to a thermostat warning. My engine heats up a little late but not too late. When I took out the thermostat, the top part was completely close and the bottom completely open. What can be the problem? TY

      Thanks for watching sorry you are in this predicament. Well if all Fasteners Etc are removed you could try a penetrating oil, especially if the area around the ends of the pipe seem to be corroded. After allowing the oil to soak in try lightly tapping the pipe with the wooden handle of a hammer being careful not to deform anything. I hope you can get it. If it's that badly corroded I would also be concerned about the Integrity of the O-ring and getting everything to seal properly again.

      Chances are your heater pipe is corroded. I had the same issue taking it out and a bigger issue trying to put it back in. After realizing it was the corrosion that was making it difficult I just used some simple green and sand paper and gently removed all the corrosion. Just make sure you remove the o ring while cleaning it and rinse the pipe thoroughly before installing it

    my dealership says my nissan altima 2010 2.5sl has two valves ? is that true cuz i can’t get rid of code p0128 for thermostat and i only changed the top one and the temperature sensor but it still shows code. dealership says i have two and they wanna charge me 700$….. help me

    • @Swayyj
      @Swayyj 3 года назад

      i mean, do i have to change what you’re changing, in order to rid code of p0128?

    • @MikeTrullAmsoildealer
      @MikeTrullAmsoildealer  3 года назад +1

      Not sure about that code but it is important to change both thermostats as it only takes one of them malfunctioning to cause a problem.

    • @hardkore360
      @hardkore360 2 года назад +2

      @@Swayyj I have the same P0128 code and can be a few things, such as the thermostat, coolant sensor, or sensor harness, you can trouble shoot most of these independently to find out what part is the culprit. I suggests you don't just guess and replace parts, it could be as simple as having a bad harness. Im going to start by checking the sensor, it should read different resistance ranges at various temperature levels. Good luck!

      @@hardkore360 thank you bro! i figured the problem out. it was the fact i changed one gasket and not the other cuz i had no clue there was two.. i felt really dumb cuz it took me about 15 minutes to fix the problem and 15 warm up cycles and the code was cleared! thank you for the info tho, i hope if anyone else has this problem , to watch the video and read the comments !

      @@Swayyj Nice! I'm still waiting for my thermostat to get here so will definitely make sure to replace the gaskets, thanks for the heads up. FYI: the sensor tested out just fine.

    Is the water control valve and thermostat the same part?

    • @MikeTrullAmsoildealer
      @MikeTrullAmsoildealer  2 года назад +2

      There are actually two different ones and you would want to be sure to replace both. I forget which one is technically called the water control valve but as I recall they both come in a kit and it would be hard to say which one was bad and if one was bad the other one might not be far behind it.

    Why does it run so bad

  • @ProWilson21
    @ProWilson21 6 месяцев назад +1

    I’m almost 100% positive that the leak is coming from your valve cover. Nissan sucks. You can’t change the seals. You have to change the whole valve cover😤
