I have my Nissan 2008 and I have the problem p0420
How you not address CVT fail?
+Chino Moreno Thanks for the tip! We'll pass this info along to our production team.
I’m trying to yto to
Where is the crankshaft position sensor located?
I've got a 2007 with 333,281 miles. The only issues I have had are the catalytic converter going bad twice, a leaky valve cover, and ignition coils. Other than that, no issues at all. Still running original engine and transmission.
Mine has 245k miles and only problems I have are bad catalytic converters, what tipped you off about the ignition coils?
@@trevordoeseverything219 4 me excessive engine vibration, I thought engine mount failure at 1st til sum1 suggested it may be the coils, & it was
@@TheKy47 that’s for that mine shakes And I replaced my engine mounts Amd still shakes. Ima take it tomorrow to get checked
I have 2006 3.5 sl manual with 240 000. Major problem was alternator, sensor of fuel level (check engine light is on) and rusty floor. Everything else is working. Very powerfull car
me too catillic converter
hey bro I just wanted to say you've really helped me do alot of auto repairs, I like how calm and collected you are and how you explain things simply for us to understand. you really do a good job bro thanks alot
Best presentation I've seen! Was just complaining that too many don't take it serious enough to talk consciously and clear, with a tone that is pleasing and factual....camera at eye level and no background noise....also friendly and informative....you ought to do a series, because I bet it would be most popular on whole net!!
I'm the original owner of a 2010 Nissan Altima 2.5s. It was my daily driver for 10 years and 120,000 miles. Not one issue. I love this car; drove it all through my college years. Doing a full restoration on it now. I would never dream of selling it 😂
I got a 2012 Altima approaching 120k also, no problems here either what kind of work do you plan on doing on your car? I’m trying to get more into working on my car & maintenance so far all I’ve learned is how to do oil changes, thanks
I also have a 2010 altima 2.5s. Bought it 2 years ago with 42k miles now has about 68k miles. Knock on wood doing great. Virtually no rust underneath, drives great. Only had to replace both sets of brakes, shocks, and drive belt. I'm nervous about the cvt but my mechanic says don't touch the fluid because it can cause more damage. Not sure how true that is but it still works great! Just trying to think of preemptive care!
@@joshlangston8169 theres some truth to not changing the cvt oil. however once you get passed 100k miles on it you could start getting some issues with the cvt transmission if you dont change out the oil. I changed my cvt oil at 100k last summer and have 115k now with no issues so far. I have 3 friends who have had nissan altimas and they all had the cvt transmission crap out on them. I have a 2010 nissan altiima 2.5s and havent had any issues with mine thankfully.
all 3 friends didn't change the cvt oil either so that's why i assume they're transmissions failed on them.
man im about to go buy one of these with 88k miles on it, I'm excited
Awesome because I just replaced my fuel pump and filter and spark plugs and wires and did a full oil change and now my 2005 2.5 nissan altima is running so much better and purrs like a sewing machine instead of sounding like a pulp wood truck. Thanks for sharing this with us nissan altima folks...I look forward to more videos because I'm a single woman who does her own mechanic work, due to my lack of funds..
Also change ur transmission fluids and both filters every 30 miles
@@Bassmaster784 every 30??
Transmission fluid and filter every 30000 miles, dont flush it,is not really recomended
Me too!
One of my best friends had a 2012 2.5s with leather and had 298,000 miles on it and the car kept going strong, it was never getting any weaker the car kept driving like new, I’m purchasing a 3.5se so I’m confident that it will be just as good maybe even better😊
Thank you. My wife just purchased a 2012 Alitma . This has helped me have a better understanding of how to help her maintain it . 💯
Great insight to the 4th gen Altimas. We've been working on a 2007 for a little while now. Just replaced a valve cover gasket. Great video man. 👍
I need help with mine
I've had my Nissan Altima for 5 years . Through all my wild life style till I settled down and really have been blessed with my Altima it's never has given me any problems what's so ever I'm at 180.000 miles not one issue..I had American cars my whole 20s nothing but problems ..
What year
I’ve had my 2006 Nissan for 5 years and tho I’ve had minor problems with it, they were easy fixes, thank God. I’ve had plenty of American cars and like you said, nothing but problems. I think a good rule of thumb is if you see older model cars on the roads in this day and age then it’s safe to assume they’re fairly reliable cars. After babying my 06 with some TLC and changing the spark plugs and not running her with cheap gas, she runs like brand new and even keeps up with the most recent models. At 140,000k and she’s going strong. Nissan, Toyotas and Hondas are my top picks for reliability.
I bought my 2008 Altima Coupe (6-speed MT) new and it's given me 13 years of trouble-free service. I recently got a PO420 code and will probably have to replace the cat, but that's still pretty darn good.
I have 179900 miles on mine as well. Minor issues.
Generally speaking, you the best dude in 1Aauto
My 2009 hybrid 165,000 miles: Steering lock (a recall, so was free of charge), Oil cooler (40 bucks), Ignition coils ($50 set of 4), upper air intake hose ($30). Running like a champ but probably do some proactive maintenance on the sensors.
I bought a 2010 Altima SL early 2018. The oil cooler leak was the one thing the garage found during my used car inspection. Lately my car has lost it's get up and go and I smell fuel when I start the engine. This video has helped a lot.
+Matthew Drummond Thanks for the feedback!
Same with my 2010 Altima.
If I could expand on the P0420 for a moment: I had that code on my 2000 Infiniti i30 for over a year. According to the texts, there is actually 6 separate causes for this code. Well, I discovered the 7th! Long story short, I had one coil pack that was cracked in the middle of the tube. If you look at the specific coil pack for this vehicle, you will see it has a skinny point in the middle. The crack was intermittently leaking spark! This caused a richer exhaust. A rich exhaust is hotter. This registered to the O2 sensors as the exhaust being hotter in front of the catalytic, than behind it, which is the opposite reading that it's looking for. So, it gave me the P0420. But all it was, was a cracked coil pack. It took me a year to figure it out.
If your catalytic is really bad, and no longer functioning, then you will see the black stuff start to accumulate on your rear bumper. You've seen cars like this before. I didn't have that, so I knew there was something else going on. I'm glad I waited.
Great tip on the coil pack.. thanks for that.
I still have my 2007 Altima. Bought it with 22,000 miles in 2009. 190,000 miles now. I am a 20-year MasterTech with Mercedes-Benz. I drive my cars pretty hard and this car has been great.. every mechanical part on this engine is original. Only thing I replaced was the oil cooler gasket , valve cover gasket, lower oil pan had a hole rusted through it, spark plugs, belt, and motor mounts. I also replaced the crank sensor at 100,000 miles just because. Cvt was replaced at 100,000 under warranty. I knew a guy who worked there and replaced the cvt for me before the warranty ran out. Started getting an almost stalling out affect or erratic idling. There was a vacuum leak on the rubber hose on top of the engine.. It will dry rot and start sucking air. Caused a rough idle.
Exhaust will rust out at the front at the flex pipe.
But mechanically speaking the car has never left me stranded. Very good car. My 19 kid drives it now.
Front wheel bearings replaced, front sway bar links replaced. Rear shocks replaced.
I love the video, it is very informative & interesting especially since I'm the owner of both a maxima and an Altima. Great work Bro.because I have those exact issues.
+John Davis Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
Excellent video. Thanks. In reading some of the comments; I realized that I have a rattling heat shield problem. Now, I’m going to search YT to find the fix. I appreciate you!
The only thing I would have liked to have known is a relative cost on replacing these parts otherwise thanks that was all very informative
My brother is about to gift one of these to me because he bought a new car. I’m glad I know about the common problems. Thanks for the video :)
+Andrew Pearce Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
interesting video, but i would have liked to see you actually pointing out where these things are and replacing them.
Thanks brother you make working on my 07 Altima much easier each and every problem i have with the car you have a video for me to watch
I have a 2012 with 150,000 miles...I haven't had one of these issues...not to say they aren't common. Did need all new wheel bearings, ps pump damaged in -40f weather during Polar vortex, and new CV axles and suspension...otherwise she's a champ...regularly change oil and cvt fluid
Wow I just got a 2008 Nissan Altima and I first drove it today and a lot of things need fixing.... pretty much all this. Thanks for the info!!
+MEGA CRUSHER1212 Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Nice job of explaining the problems and fixes in layman's terms.
I have a 2008 Nissan Altima. I literally just had my catalytic converter replaced. I was so lucky that my check engine light never came on. But, that noise was so loud. Catalytic converter are expensive and I'm glad that I didn't have to pay much for mine.
This video helped me change my full.pump cause it was installed incorrect, thank u for this helpful tips, I watch all ur videos to fix my car. Thank u Soo much ..many blessings n good luck with ur videos...Lady mechanic ❤❤❤😊😊😊
Good content. Helps me know what to fix on a used Altima.
My 09 Audi A4 engine literally blew, so I went with a pretty good conditioned used 2010 Altima 2.5s and I’m quite impressed. It’s obviously not quite Audi on the interior but they did a great job being it’s 11 years old now. Love the car. Black. Heated seats. Bose sound system. Good little car.
I have a 2010 altima bose stereo and leather. But stutters.
Thank you for sharing your experience with truths and reason God Bless You And Your Family ,Your clear and precise ,troubleshooting You Make us proud !when you speak we are Listening ,, Thanks again!

His same hand movement 2000 times kills me. lol
Once I seen this comment I was infected
"Let's get into it"

I'm the original owner of a 2010 Nissan and I've had her for 11yrs. She just started giving me issue with that dang catalytic converter. Looking into getting her fixed up soon because she's held up so well for me over the years!!
Same happened with my 2009 just got it fixed and she runs like a champ
I need to do this. How much did it cost?
Thank you so much for the information.. You are very well spoken
Only 5 problems??🤣
I had to figure all this out by myself, since I didn't see the video. You got all the common problems very nicely. To bad the dealer doesn't know how to program the BCM.
Was it a true Nissan dealer? Call the corporate office- demand (cuz as the customer u have a right to demand) they send u2 someone that DOES have the know how.... At NO COST TO U, cuz u had to try to figure it out for urself.
Thanks for the great information!!

I’m in love with my 2007 Nissan Altima.
Great video very informative

Extremely helpful video
thank you for the information. I have 2010 Altima hybrid with a bad steering pump its not working tips on something like this
Thank you! That was very helpful!

For the 07-12 Nissan Altima V6 is there any way a timing chain replacement could be done? Got that coming up for mine and your videos are extremely in depth and helpful.
Great video and wee gonna replace the sensors to see if that’s the problem.
My wife's 2012 2.5S hasn't had any of these problems at 125K. Only routine oil and transmission fluid changes, plus one O2 sensor and the exhaust heat shield for rattling. We do the CVT fluid every 30K miles. Hopefully we can get another 75K miles out of it. It's been a great car so far.
+Jason Hall Thanks for the feedback!
Same here! 2010 with 118k miles. CVT flushes every 30k and still smooth as butter. None of these issues yet. It has been a great car.
I think the key is changing that cvt fluid most of us with issues have never touched the transmission. I’m over 180k without changing it
I have 200k and change the fluid every 2 years or 30k. However, I change it twice. I drain it once fill out with 5 qt and then drive for a few days then do it again.
I have a 2010 and had the cvt fluid (full exchange-12 qts) at 60000 and 120000. That requires dealer equipment to do the exchange (not a power flush). It's extremely expensive for the labor and 12 quarts, at the dealership. Do you guys do the simple drain and fill (approx 6 quarts)? That doesn't remove all the fluid. I may start doing the drain and fill myself every 30000 if that's best. Can't afford to have that cvt go out. What kind of fluid do you use? Genuine Nissan or a different brand (like Idemitsu CVT-who I think makes it for Nissan)? I'm currently around 131000 miles
Any videos out there on how to change the cam and crank sensor for the 07-12 altima?
Extremely resourceful and in depth video. Thanks!
Had a 2010 Altima cvt transmission act up. A simple $40 transmission rotation sensor easily accessible made it like new again
Great video! I learned a lot.
Great video lot of information I got to take in
This is so true. I have an 08 with 130,000+ miles... I'm just now starting to have issues with fuel efficiency from time to time... Thank you so much for this video. I gonna start replacing a few more things that I wasn't sure about.
Thank you excellent video thanks for the education bratha
Great information thank you for sharing
Great video.. What if the vehicle sputters like it wants to cut off?
Hi my name is Lisa I thank you for your videos they've been helpful I have a 2011 Nissan Altima and I've been having problems with losing power on the freeway I changed the mass air flow sensor three times I've taken it out at cleaned it I clean the filter replace the filter in the box there do you have any idea what else it could be that's causing this once I change it it runs fine for a while but my check engine light will not go off
I love these guys

I bought my 2012 nissan altima and till this date I've only had to do regular maintenance, one ignition coil and new radiator.
I have my 2012 Nissan Altima since August last year, I'm already at over 108k, I've had no issues since then, I have the oil change regularly, and I had the transmission fluid changed just last month, so I'm good for another 30 to 60K, the only issue I was dealing with since I had it was the Axel boot leak, I just had that replaced yesterday, so I had no problems with it other than that!
@@dakentaijutsu2010 I'm looking into buying one right now. Does it get decent gas mileage?
Very informative
My brother has a 2010 with 107,000 miles on it and I do the maintenance and repairs on it, and its constanly got something wrong with it. You mentioned loss of oil but from the oil cooler, how about oil comsuption cause of their poorly made pistons and piston rings? Do you have any info or heard of that being a problem or recall? Its burning alot of oil, and diagnosed it, and thats when I found out that oil was get into the combustion chamber and burning a massive amount of oil. So now im current working on them, but I’m cleaning them without tearing the motor apart by puring a fuel injector clean directly into each cylinder and its working, I just have to repeat the process about 2 more times. Abunch of burnt oil is what mostly is coming out than carbon braking down and coming out the exhaust. Caused misfires 3 times in a matter of three months, killed the O2 sensors and possibly the cat. I appreciate you talking about the other issues, now im gonna check on those things to make sure its ok. But I was wondering if you have seen or heard of oil consumption happing alot the nissan altima 4th generation model. Thank you for the videos, I get alot of info from your channel and great ways to go about different repairs. Really helps me out!
I would love too see some videos on the 3.5 lt v6 model. Everyone has the 4 cylinder 2.5 videos but finding a 3.5 v6 video is hard lately
Clear & concise... thanks
My 2001 Pathfinder had the leaking oil cooler. I bought an o-ring to replace it, but just tried tightening the cooler first. That actually worked and it never leaked again.
We need to buy a car and sad to say we can only purchase used, I was impressed with the first video of yours i watched. on 2015 chevy equinox. thx
I got a customer with 2011 Altima hybrid cranks runs but does not charge hybrid battery. I just rebuilt the hybrid battery though. No communication with ABS, Hybrid System, Transmission, Power Steering and a few other modules. Maybe you have an insight on the communication problem. Thinking bad ground wire, but can’t find it. Now won’t start saying CMP circuit. Check it and middle wire had no ground. If I ground CMP ground wire it then start again. Communication issue and charging issue still remain. It has two engine codes. One is CKP circuit the other say hybrid system requested a code. It’s driving me crazy loosing profit.
Amazing video!

..I have a 2012 Altima 2.5S with 128k and have never had any of these issues. Is the CVT plus these 5 more of a "when" and not an "if" type of problem? Is there an amount of miles you can get past to be considered "safe" Or is my car a ticking time bomb?
Excellent quality in all ways
Thank you, Thank you...... Great work, Info is what I need, 2012 Atima been good to me thank the LORD. Had to replace rear hub. Rear hub is that a common problem?
Thank you so much for you’re help!!!!
I'd like information about the EGR Vacuum solenoid please. And how to change it.
Yep. 10 years ago, the crank postion sensor on my 2006 Altima went out when I was on the highway. It still drove, but it felt like I ran something over and of course the check engine light came on. I got it to the dealer safely. But Geez.
Did you have an altima or altima 2.5 special edition? Ill look up crank position sensor as i just bought a 2006 altima 2.5 Special edition with under 85k miles on it, had it for 2 weeks. Got it inspected before & after purchase so far so good
I had an 06 Altima and I replaced my crankshaft position sensor three times and it still had trouble starting. I would get gas and it would stall while I was driving away.
I enjoy your videos. I find them very helpful. I have an issue with my abs sensors I replaced them and all my warning lights are on and can't reset them. Is there anyway without going to the dealer to reset them?

Thanks for the info!!!
Are these problems the same or differ from an 09 3.5 SE Coupe?
Just put in an offer on an '11 3.5 SR M/T coupe. If it goes anywhere, this video will prove extremely helpful!
thanks for the heads up
Thx, very helpful
Awesome video
Question I’m in the market for a 2012 Nissan Altima coupe would you recommend it to me as my first Nissan car???
Very helpful thanks

Question
I have a 08 Altima coupe
How often do I need to change the fluid and filters on the cvt transmission.
I took it to the dealer and they told me that they never need to be changed and that they are self cleaning.
To me that makes no sense but is that so?
I have two 2008 Altima hybrid, 150,000 thousand miles each and all the problems you just mentioned never happened to me, they still running strong
+Francisco Garcia Thanks for the feedback!
I have a 2009 and mine is running great
He is so right my 2012 Nissan Altima S had replaced the air intake hose, MAF Sensor, CVT Transmission 2x & manifold catalytic converter.

Appreciate the info🔥🔥🔥
+SURGE Bynum Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Missed the cvt trans ! That’s huge !
One of the biggest problems!!
CVT trans is redundant. But yes, transmissions have issues.
should have been #1
I totally agree...#1 and I had to change out mine already
Yeah my 2008 had issues very early on. I helped solve the problem putting an aftermarket transmission cooler on it
He didn't mention any transmission problems and how that could impact safety and drivability
Put in an aftermarket oil cooler, that's what I did. Fixed the issue right away.
i drive a manual 1 still to this day 271 on the body
That’s exactly what I was waiting for and it wasn’t even mention. As far as I’m concerned, that’s one of the major problems this generation has.
I have a ‘08 with 231,000 and it still runs like a dream! All original engine and trans
+Krissy Xoxo Thanks for the feedback!
I had a 2007 2.5 S that I bought used in 2011 with 36k miles that I drove for four years & 30k miles & wasn't too problematic, but had some issues such as the CVT being replaced around 58k miles under warranty though (thank god), the battery had to be replaced twice, I never left any lights on, the a/c blower motor was replaced & some of the radio buttons would randomly stop working on & off as well as the display fading when it was hot outside.
+rnorred1986 Thanks for the feedback!
Your Awesome...and I would check u out whenever my car has problems..
I have 2009 Altima 2.5SL w/146,000 miles. The only problem I had was a bad cat conv. Bought one off amazon for $152 and a oxygen sensor for $40. Took me a couple hours to install. Mechanic wanted well over $1000 for parts and labor...screw that.
+mike blaz Thanks for the feedback!
Wow!!!!! My 2010 going on to 12 years old next month has never had those issues since new in 2010. I'm at 120,000 miles
Had a 06 Pathfinder, the crankshaft and camshaft went bad, changed them myself and it's good to go.
+Anything Mike Thanks for the feedback!
I wanna buy one but im afraid of the cvt transmission is going do you think I should get one I need a car next five years 2008-2012 model
I have replaced EVERY part under the hood other than the engine and transmission, and that includes the fuel pump in the back seat. All the parts mentioned in this video have been changed. And STILL, it stalls while driving after some time. I don’t know what to do now and could definitely use some help. Should I keep trying and change the ECM?
No codes come up either.
Any help could ease my stress
General speaking...this is why the junkyard has so many Altima’s, this should be very inexpensive vehicle but once all these things goes plus CVT transmission then you’ll end up racking up an extra 3k to replace everything that just went. I love my car but hate it for all the problems that has happened.
I think I got lucky because I own a 2011 Altima (2023 now) and other than regular oil changes, 1 set of tires, 1 set of brake pads and 1 battery, I have never had any issues with the car. I've owned Toyotas and currently own a Toyota Highlander but the Altima gets the most reliable car award from me.
Good info to know..Thx
Great video
I have a 2015 AltimaSL with codes p0420 and p0101 my baby starts and moves so 😢 slow, no acceleration,🛴 🛵 when let off has pedal she jerks hard. We are very sad and need to be fixed. You are the best mechanic I have watched..... and I have watched a few while researching this problem and the codes..YOU ARE AMAZINGLY GIFTED! You really know what is going on and what the causes problems are!
Is it right for a 2007 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE to idle high when it first starts ... and if you just start and take off it sounds like it dont have oil it (rattles) from the top like the lifters aint got no oil ... so has to start up and run before taking off in it ... but it runs fine after but kinda weak but that might be the CVT transmission . It kinda feels weak until you push the gas and then it will get up and go without using the his and her shifter just curious about this ? ... my wife's does it(start it and let it run it goes to 2,500 at idel first start or after 8 hours)and just wondering why it does that for .. and the low tire light stays on and there all fine (the tires)thanks for all the into I get from 1A AUTO THANKS YALL
