Thank you! I have tried everything. Replace my mass air flow sensor twice. I've replaced the valve cover, spark plugs, coils, pig tails, air filter and this was the only thing that worked. Cleaning the throttle body and sensors like this nice man explained in video. These cars have almost zero value blame the CV Transmission for that. Oh and if anyone's car goes in limp mode in summer add plate and fin oil cooler for Transmission.
Cleaning the intake helps a lot with pretty much any car...the maf also helps a lot to be cleaned at a regular maintenance time..but remember with the maf..it's takes a special Cleaner because it is a sensor..and most common cleaners will leave a residue behind causing more problems..so when it comes to Cleaning many off these parts..make sure to use the correct Cleaning solvents..great video btw..
One other thing to inspect that he did not mention, check the vent hose (accordion looking hose) look in between the gaps for splits or holes. I had everything he did here done to mine and I also had to replace the vent hose because it had several splits and holes in. Otherwise he is correct on this will fix that problem.
Thank you for sharing this tip. I didn’t inspect the vent hose until I read your comment and sure enough, it was cracked. After replacing it, it running smooth no hesitation at all. I Did everything else he did on the video. Thank you so much. God Bless you.

I have a 2011 Nissan Altima JUST LIKE THIS ! I have replaced my mass airflow sensor 2 times . I also did a fuel injector cleaner 1 time . Problem still occurred . The problem is when I crank it it idles high then low repeatedly then sits a loud idle . When I approach red lights it stops completely as it should but when the light turns green and I press the gas it kinda of jumps . Nevertheless it stalls when I get at certain speeds sometimes . I’m going to replace my throttle bottle and pray all these problems stop. Thanks for the video
Change your spark plugs, Coils, clean Camshaft sensor, crank shaft sensor, and clean catalytic converter, look also at the air intake hose pipe may be it has cranked and passes more air try replace this pipe, change your air cleaner too.
Good video. I just wish you had showed video of the problem. I have a hesitation between 10-20 mph, not all the time but often. I was almost rear ended recently because acceleration stopped and I just crawled along at 10 mph until it kicked in. I will give the cleaning a try.
It ran good from Sept 2020 to Jan 2022. Then it started showing early signs of hesitation again. This time I only removed the black plastic air duct that connects to the throttle body and sprayed cleaner into the throttle body without removing it from its mount. It solved the problem and it’s back running well without hesitation. I’m expecting that at some point I may need to replace the throttle body because car parts need maintenance but are not designed to last indefinitely.
Thank you very much. Save me a lot of money. Thanks to people like you I started doing things myself, you encourage me to do so. Make things look so easy. Thanks again.
Pretty neat cleaning job, and please, be aware that after doing that...You may also need further help with your throttle body so, it can be reprogrammed by watching another video or so. Good job😁👍

Same exact issue with my 2008 nissan Altima, and with no light on Board. Did everything you did in the beginning, even installing new throttle body. It ended up being my ignition coils, when engine light decided to come on 🙄. A complete tuneup solved my problem.
Great Video When you gonna touch or move the throttle body butterfly valve after the cleaning you have to re learn the Body throttle, here is how to Relearn the body throttle for all Nissan Altima, cause i have the same problem i try this method. ( Fully released the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. (20 seconds unit the Engine light stops blinking and turn On not start the engine only turn On). (Fully release the accelerator pedal with 3 seconds after the Engine light OFF). (After Start the engine and let it idle for 5min the body throttle gonna Relearn). Thank you
@@LA562mike it did, but I come to find out it was a bad belt tensioner. Usually the throttle body will need cleaning if you add too much oil. My noise would start on cold mornings and after research, it was stated the cause was the belt tensioner. If it's your belt tensioner - becareful removing them - they can easily snap off in the block. Do not use old bolts - replace with grade 8 bolts.
I've owned a 2009 for 9 years and I don't think my air filter's ever been changed until today. My engine would hestitate once in a rare while when trying to accelerate from a complete stop, never going above 40. It's problematic when you're trying to merge after a right turn... The plastic intake hose leading up to the air filter box was also loose, so I just duct taped it. It was a little more loose than yours. I dont think that's a big deal if it's before the air filter, but the duct tape should prevent any excess dirt/dust coming in where it shouldn't.
Most people use CRC brand throttle body cleaner so for those that do, don't use that same brand on your mass airflow sensor. use CRC's MAF cleaner or something specifically designed for it.

Only if you left the battery connect. If the battery is disconnected, the cars computer will not detect that you moved the throttle so does not need to relearn. That’s what I did in the video.
Vacuum leak around your intake manifold..dirty intake throttle body.. clogged egr Vale..many things can lead to hesitation..but these 3 are your cheapest and most common problems.. mostly hesitation comes from dirtiness..
Hey Joe! The only time I experience these hesitations in my 2011 Nissan Altima is after I've driven the car for a decent amount of time, especially after coming right off the highway. Is that common or might it be something else?
This is great to know. I will give this a try. Because I have a 2017 Nissan Altima SV that when I mash down on the pedal it takes its time then a few seconds later it wants to hit fast pace. The first check engine reading said it had a misfire. Since the light is off should I double check that first?
Good point, that’s something I should have clarified on the video. With the battery disconnect, the on-board computer has no way of determining that the butterfly valve was moved. Unless by moving it with too much force, something physically becomes off-reference so just be careful when moving it. There are many videos that others have posted on how to reset the throttle body and it may be good to be prepared if that issue does occur.
LOL--- No, the gook is not why your Nissan is stalling in the middle of traffic. Chances are it's the Camshaft & Crankshaft Position Sensors (which should be changed at the same time). It's very common with these cars. This guy here-although I appreciate the time and effort he put into this video---doesn't seem to really understand a lot about being a technician-- maybe as a mechanic he is good. :)
In my case, although it may be hard to see in the video, the throttle body had excessive carbon build up on the outer edge of the valve and on the inner cavity wall. This would compromise the seal which is intended to be created when the valve is in the closed position.
@@TheWinterState To get the onboard computer to reset, just remove the negative battery terminal and wait around 30 seconds before you reconnect it. Hope that solves the issue.
@@TheWinterState I wish I was there to see it with you. My only other advice is that since it wasn’t idling fast before, something may have changed around the throttle body area. Cleaning won’t cause it idle faster. However, you check: • The butterfly valve inside the throttle body opens and closes freely • The small rubber gasket is set in place. This is where the throttle body and intake manifold come together. • The throttle body is resting flat on the intake manifold • The connector to the throttle body sensor is fully plugged in
My car does the same and wont let me go above 2400rpm. It also gives a code for mass airflow sensor, that i replaced but it didn't help, and the light that comes on when the skids on ice, stays on. Hopefully this helps with that
I have the maxima guys and it's in Limp Mode. High rpm but barely any acceleration. I changed solenoids, no change. Burning oil smell and whining noise. 😩🤦🏽♀️
I'm having trouble with my 2012 nissan altima... the problem is that when I start driving it takes a long time to accelerate and it don't have no power. Car can't go over 40 miles... and when I drive I hear whining noises as I speed up.. can anybody think what would be the problem
You aren’t alone my 2011 Nissan Altima only went up to 20 miles🤦🏽♀️ it goes into reverse, goes into drive no problem. When cranking the car up, The idling is loud after that sounds good. Pulling off to drive the car, its little loud everybody ask me what is that sound with your car? My brother bought me the car from a private owner I believe the car was as is. Probably knew it needed work done on it this was in 2021 my brother bought the car for me. Waiting now once the mechanic put the car on diagnostic machine and go from there to see what issue(s) is.
I bought 3 quarts of transmission fluid, my brother told me that I needed 3 more bottles of fluid and see if the car pick more speed. My car didn’t have noooo transmission fluid in it, bone dry!! Believe once I get more fluid 3 more quarts praying it will drive okay 🙌🏽that’s was causing the car to jerk. Again once the car pass 20 miles it drove normal; type of fluid you need is: Vavoline Full Synthetic Transmission Fluid CVT ( continuously) Make sure you buy this type of fluid. After putting the first 3 quarts in, car still making that humming sound not as bad as it did before. So I’m getting 3 more quarts, pray everything works out for you sir.
The check engine light would not come on cause you unplug the battery right? So that wouldn’t really mean it fixed the problem cause the check engine light did not come on.
My 2007 Altima 2.5 has no fuel filter you can easily change apparently their is a screen on the bottom of the fuel pump that's in the tank and my car goes no where from a stop sometimes
Not to blame you since I was willing to try anything but I did the throttle body cleaning yesterday. Today my 2010 Nissan Altima is totaled something came loose in the engine and it now sound like a rock tumbler
My car runs good in the morning after start. Then the hesitation comes after driving for 10 mins. No check light. Anyone can guide me why it hesitates after 10 mins of driving?
What's the cause if hesitation begins after 82 mph on same year and model? Accompanied by a Very noticeable vibration (which can be bad wheel balancing after new tires were just installed)
it's possible for faulty plugs to cause hesitation. My service manual says to replace them at 96,000km but I haven't replaced mine and it still runs fine.
i have a 2004 altima 3.5l, when ever you try to accelerate it wants to bog down, do you think possible thottle boby? new fuel pump, battery. any suggestions
If it never had a throttle body cleaning or replacement before, it would be the first thing I would look at along with the air cleaner and MAS. As mentioned in the video, many things can cause this problem however, throttle bodies need to be maintained (cleaned) to work properly. If you decided to go ahead, remember to disconnect the battery which will also avoid throttle body re-learning process.
@@joen2521 the car has over 200000 miles on it never had any problems like this until now. im going to try and clean it if not i will purchase a new one, thanks
My 2007 definitely needed the 3 steps, especially the throttle body...what a mess! Afterward, it required the throttle re-learn, which the pedal procedures failed at correcting. Luckily, I have a good scan tool that included the re-learn function. However, that darn sporadic hesitation is still occurring...ARGH! Any other ideas?
@@kuzmanovskinikolce I got a great deal on that Thinkdiag dongle type scanner. It came with one year of subs for all makes and models. I was able to do the relearn, program new key fobs. I was also able to program new keys for my pt cruiser. Very good item. However, once the subs run out, you have to pay for what you want. I have yet to do so because I have not needed that level of scan tool since that time. It still works as a regular OB2 scanner, and when I actually need to do something above that, I will have to pay for the sub for one make at a time. Not sure the cost, but I think it is around $40 for one, for a year. That hesitation with the Nissan is still there, but it happens rarely, and pretty much when you start off, give it gas, then let up, then give it gas again, there, that is when it hesitates for a hot second, if that makes sense.
Was you check engine light on ? My wife's is flashing lol I've already changed the coil packs and everything involved with that but wants to carve warms up it starts acting very funny and it's hard to get a read on it if you just plug up an OBD plug cuz I was going to show is that it's getting a lean air flow and gas mixture that's all it's going to tell you and in today's world we live in I do not have the money to take it to a mechanic and I've never taken any car I've had to a mechanic but this one is on the verge of blowing up so I have to figure out what it is fast and I only have one day to fix it . This was a nice video but I don't think that's what's wrong with my wife's car because it sounds like a freaking diesel it's definitely misfiring but I change the coil packs and those things were $300 so I don't know what the hell I'm going to do if is something expensive I'm hoping it's just a injection sensor or mass flow air sensor or even a fuel pump those are things that might not cost that much and easy to replace. I just don't want to have to take this engine completely apart again 🤦🏻♂️
It's a great video. My Nissan altima recently failed smog check. Today I went to Mossy Nissan to fix my check engine light, they said I should replace the throttle body costs $1280! I didn't see your video then and one of my friends did something like you and tried to reach back of throttle from the front side. Since didn't watch the video didn't risk to go for other side. However the car now works well. I am not sure if the check engine light will come back. 🤔 Do you think if I go for second smog check, my car can pass?
There are many things that could cause it to fail a smog check like EGR valve, O2 sensors, catalytic converter, gaskets, restrictions to exhaust and others. Everything is integrated with each other so it’s too hard to say.

But thanks to O’Reiley for that proper information and got it fixed by my mechanic...something I definitely could of done myself. I have 2014 Nissan Altima 2.5L S I want to clean my throttle body but mechanic told me if you clean throttle body your throttle body alignment is gone then you have to change your throttle body please help me out may I clean my throttle body thank you
Whenever a throttle body is replaced, it needs to have a re-learn procedure done. However, if you remove the negative post from the battery and only clean the throttle body, then it normally won’t need a re-learn procedure. This is because the cars onboard computer is off when the battery is disconnected. Another mechanics opinion may be helpful and there are also many videos showing the re-learn procedure to help you be better informed when speaking with a mechanic. Hope this helps...good luck. ruclips.net/video/CR-AjHCslhs/видео.html

This is great to know. I will give this a try. Because I have a 2017 Nissan Altima SV that when I mash down on the pedal it takes its time then a few seconds later it wants to hit fast pace. The first check engine reading said it had a misfire. Since the light is off should I double check that first?
My 2002 does the same thing. I suspect mine is plugs and coil packs are due for a change.
you're a life saver!!!
Good idea after cleaning mass air flow sensor to let it dry before reinstalling
Thank you so much 🙏
where did u spray in the housing of throttle body just before reinstalling throttle body?
at 7:57?
After messing with the throttle body and the sensor that goes to it would've been good to do the throttle body relearn procedure
Can you show how to relearn, because we decided to this very work...and now the idle is too high
@@TheWinterState To get the onboard computer to reset, just remove the negative battery terminal and wait around 30 seconds before you reconnect it. Hope that solves the issue.
Unfortunately this didn’t work, and my car is exactly like yours...Nissan will now have to do this for me 🤧🤧
@@TheWinterState I wish I was there to see it with you. My only other advice is that since it wasn’t idling fast before, something may have changed around the throttle body area. Cleaning won’t cause it idle faster. However, you check:
• The butterfly valve inside the throttle body opens and closes freely
• The small rubber gasket is set in place. This is where the throttle body and intake manifold come together.
• The throttle body is resting flat on the intake manifold
• The connector to the throttle body sensor is fully plugged in
Found out my car was manufactured in California but I live here in Florida...
Isn't the check engine light gone because you disconnected the battery?
Super job!
My car does the same and wont let me go above 2400rpm. It also gives a code for mass airflow sensor, that i replaced but it didn't help, and the light that comes on when the skids on ice, stays on. Hopefully this helps with that
Did it work?
@@DemiGod101 yep, been over 2 years since I had that issue
My Nissan Altima won’t chime when I start it do you know the issue with that
Always check intake hoses first
Good video
Thanks!
I have the maxima guys and it's in Limp Mode. High rpm but barely any acceleration. I changed solenoids, no change. Burning oil smell and whining noise. 😩🤦🏽♀️
i have the whining noise idk what to do about that
Thank you 🚙
Why on my 3.4 nissan altima only does it at take off on low speeds. I have tinapply more or less gas to calm it ?
i have a 2013 nissan sentra and it does the same thing took it to a mechanic and he said its the throttle body is there a way i can clean it
All my sensors are plugged in but my check engine light did come on after I cleaned the throttle body
Very same problem with 2012 altima 4 banger mine is shuddering when I hit the gas pedal w/ check engine lite on
I'm having trouble with my 2012 nissan altima... the problem is that when I start driving it takes a long time to accelerate and it don't have no power.
@@PrayerChanges24do you have an update on what fixed the problem ? My 2011 is currently doing the same thing
Again once the car pass 20 miles it drove normal; type of fluid you need is: Vavoline Full Synthetic Transmission Fluid CVT ( continuously)
Make sure you buy this type of fluid. After putting the first 3 quarts in, car still making that humming sound not as bad as it did before. So I’m getting 3 more quarts, pray everything works out for you sir.
@@Thelootsteala
Also I have to get my air filter change as well, and oil change. Was getting my oil change when my car started acting up.
Will this be the same for 2011 Infiniti M37x made by Nissan? Car having same issue
Yes, but all 3 located in different locations around the engine as you would expect.
This didn't fix my car any idea what it could be
Good job
Not to blame you since I was willing to try anything but I did the throttle body cleaning yesterday. Today my 2010 Nissan Altima is totaled something came loose in the engine and it now sound like a rock tumbler
Damn
Stuff like that takes it to a shop if u don't know what u doing.
@@terrelle5087 lol i can clean a throttle body my friend
@@chukob5 obviously u can't if u follow this video n totaled your vehicle the process..
Not trying to be funny
@@terrelle5087 what makes you think the problem is related?
@@terrelle5087 key words…. “i was willing to try anything” …. Meaning the car was already fucked
My car runs good in the morning after start. Then the hesitation comes after driving for 10 mins. No check light. Anyone can guide me why it hesitates after 10 mins of driving?
Hi Joe, I’m having the same issue with my ‘07 Altima. Just curious how your car is doing? Still running good without hesitation?
What's the cause if hesitation begins after 82 mph on same year and model? Accompanied by a Very noticeable vibration (which can be bad wheel balancing after new tires were just installed)
CVT trans
Regarding the vibration, it could possibly be broken motor mounts if you haven't considered that.
Check your lower control arm bushings, mine went bad and sound similar.
I will try this causes I checked evap purge valve , maf from 1998 Volvo s70 but no lucky.
Should I replace my spark plugs I’m dealing with the same thing
it's possible for faulty plugs to cause hesitation. My service manual says to replace them at 96,000km but I haven't replaced mine and it still runs fine.
Check you air filter, then mass sensor sensor, then pcv valve and the hoses with it
i have a 2004 altima 3.5l, when ever you try to accelerate it wants to bog down, do you think possible thottle boby? new fuel pump, battery. any suggestions
Will this work with a 2014 altima?
My 2007 definitely needed the 3 steps, especially the throttle body...what a mess! Afterward, it required the throttle re-learn, which the pedal procedures failed at correcting. Luckily, I have a good scan tool that included the re-learn function. However, that darn sporadic hesitation is still occurring...ARGH! Any other ideas?
What kind of scanner you have for re-learn procedure?
Having trouble with my 07 Altima after replacing the brake booster and master cylinder pedal went stiff. Anybody know what's next step it's at 3rd shop now nobody seems to know why that is happening.hoping 3rd id the charm
Great video Joe, Iam thinking of buying an Altima 2011-2013. Are the cvt trans really that bad ?
I have not had any issues with the transmission on mine.
I have a 2013...love it. No transmission issues.
😱 I had that same issue, I bought my car used with 32k in 2013 but when the transmission went it was at 130k..any how I did pay 💰 $$$$ to get it fixed. Currently my car is at 167k and had the sensor code p0101 reading, my car was lagging during full throttle as Joe mentioned...I changed out my air flow sensor and no more lagging...it’s was such a struggle to get the true code. But thanks to O’Reiley for that proper information and got it fixed by my mechanic...something I definitely could of done myself. But he did it for me at zero dollars 💸 ...let me not begin to tell you we thought it was the cat converter...saved so much!!! Your video was very informative!!! Thank you!
Cvt on toyota priuses outlast the whole car
I have a 2011 mine has 191k on it no transmission issues

I have 2014 Altima and you have 2011 both have same method to clean throttle body I want to just clean my throttle body and I don’t wanna change thank you 😊
You had me until you used the same solution on the MAF. unless you used MAF cleaner on the throttle body.
Who knows if your car wasn’t working properly ? You didn’t show how your car was working before you clean the throttle body
My Altima 2007 I press the gas to the limit and it won’t accelerate I have no idea , what that can be , but once the car pass 10mph then it’s all good it start to accelerate fine
I have a 2011 Altima, 105,000 roughly. Engine cuts out and loses power when driving, even in neutral. It has good fuel pressure, put in a new crank sensor. Starts better but still cuts out randomly and can duplicate it. Codes for ABS module and 1130 brake module code. Trans code said engine RPM signal is missing communication. Also not the pedal sensor. someone help :(
Fuel injectors sound like they're dirty and need to be cleaned or replaced.
