Lovely job. In my younger day I used to make loads of these cushion covers for family, friends and all the school sales. I'm 73 now and I have a confession to make...... I have NEVER... EVER... put in a zip!!! I've never mastered my fear of the darn things. I've made a few New Year resolutions to 'Put In A Zip' but failed dismally☹️. The way you have shown this zip looks good.... Maybe 2021 will be 'My Year Of the Zip:). I can sing 🎤 ZippadedoodaZippadeay, my oh my what a wonderful day👍👏😘. Ha! I'll try. Need to get myself organised with fabric etc, I've plenty in my stash as I still love to sew. But I've no zips so I'll order a few and then I can get goin:). I'll send you a little message.... "Zip IN".
My parents bought me a sewing machine, I still do not know how to use it but I will start practicing to be able to do the projects that I have seen on your channel 😊 I speak Spanish so I'm using the translator 🙏🏻
Buena suerte! La práctica es muy importante, trata de practicar cada que te sea posible, puedes hacer proyectos pequeños. Éste canal es genial ♡ pero si buscas más contenido en español te recomendaría a Nocturna design blog, PatternCos, OhMothermineDIY
Love your tutorial as always! I've been really inspired to start sewing again, and got more comfidence in trying to make my own clothes after seeing you removing some of the mystery behind it. I really like that you've also got some tutorials on home decor items, I'm looking forward to trying this one out!
Once again Janelle you inspire us with your creativity. Your cushions are gorgeous and I am so happy that frilly cushions have made a comeback in home decorating. Thank you for the covered zip tuition as well. Since I discovered your channel my sewing machine is in shock, but loving the attention! 🥰
Yay I am so excited for this! I have some shirts I wanted to upcycle and I was thinking of doing this kind of thing! Feeling inspired now to get it done! 🤗
Shirts are such a terrific source of fabric. I buy shirts for $1 at my local Vinnies. They are a a terrific source of fabric for covid masks and bucket hats for men ;-) But also a great source of gingham/check fabric too. Lots of buttons for your button jar is a bonus!
You really inspired me to make this, I got my first sewing machine last week for my birthday. Let’s just say it took me 2 days and when I finally had everything sewn together, my ruffles were facing the wrong side, so I have to rip it all open again and sew it over. Your videos are so nice I’m still motivated to make other things though (and pay a bit more attention lol).
After watching this tutorial I feel totally confident that I can press on…I’ll be darn if I don’t put in a zipper!!! Don’t way this has been so intimidating to me, however after seeing how simple you made it seem in this video I’m going for it!! Thank you for this great and easy to follow tutorial
I don't trust just one stitch on the pillow, I would put a bias tape to reinforce the seam and also prevent the fabrics from fraying, making the pillow last longer. i think this fabric is so cute, lovely!
Great tutorial! A suggestion is if you showed us the closeup of how you did the ruffles and zipper (and not in fast speed), so a slow learner like me can follow along. Thanks.
You can slow the speed of the clip on your device by using the icon second from the right on the tool bar (looks like a car speedo). Hope that helps for this video.
@@BrightAsAButton Thanks for the info! I did try it and it helped. But would have loved to see a closeup of how she pulled the thread for gathering. Thanks!
If I want to make 50x50 cm pillow do I need 50x50, 50x40 and 50x15 cm squares and 5 metres rectangle? Would one metre of fabrics will be enough? I want to make sure :) What about 70x80 cm pillow? Rectangles like 70x80, 70x60 and 70x30 and 7 metres rectangle? How much of fabrics? I will be grateful for your answers, I am new to sewing and I'm trying to understand.
These look lovely. How much of a seam allowance do you sew with? Do you add seam allowance to the measured squares before cutting, or do you cut them exactly and seam allowance is accounted for after? :)
Thanks, I’m glad you like them! I didn’t add any allowance for the seam at all and sewed a 1cm seam. I personally find adding seam allowance makes the cushion cover too loose on the insert 😊
Hello! I was unable to get a 15 1/2” by 15 1/2” pillow and a 15 1/2” zipper at my local craft store. So, I ended up getting a 16” by 16” pillow and a 16” zipper. Will that mess up the project? I’m new at sewing and needed some guidance.
Hi Janelle. I'm from Bangladesh nd I just love your videos. Now I need your help. I need to give something really special and big in size handmade thing to my friend, because I'm moving to Canada soon. Can you give some Idea of it ? PLZ PLZ PLZ PLZ
Help!! I'm making this and somehow ended up with a twist in my ruffled fabric. It was twisted when I sewed the gathering stitches in, so somehow it got there as I was gathering. Do I need to cut it and resew it to fix the twist?
Hi. Cut cushions. Does your server have a ruffled foot? It would save you time of time as the machine will ruffle and attach the ruffles to fabric. It would make the final assembly easier to. Not as thick..

Hope you achieved, I’ve got the same thing, I’m scared of using a zip because they look so confusing, but once I tried it, it was easy peasy

Awesome! I've been planning a new look for my room for weeks now and one of my inspo pics had ruffle-edged pillow covers. This is serendipitous!

Hi dear..i also love sewing..nice to meet you..hope your video will inspired me to do my sewing project
Yesssss! Ruffles!
So nice
awesome video. i was wondering why you mark the front of the fabric and not the back?
I used a water erasable pen so the marks can be removed 😊
Amazing
Could you suggest some online shops to buy fabric from? Thanks! Love your videos 😊
I saw the notification and came :)
AMAZING
I use to make these cushions and put a pocket on the front of the cushions and put a little teddy bear in the pocket
This was great! Really want to trial this out. Can you share which sewing machine you have? Thank you x
It’s a Brother NS30 😊
Thx!

Sorry if I missed it but can you tell me the ratio you used to make the ruffle? 2.5 times or 3 times the amount of fabric?
It’s about 2.5 times 😊

Thank you for the tutorial. I have 50x50dm cushion inserts. Which measurements (apart from the 40cm) do I need to size up?
Just the zip if you want a bigger opening 😊 (you can add more length to the ruffle, but 4m should still be plenty)
@@RoseryApparel Thank you!
Which sewing machine do you use???
It’s a Brother NS30 😊
Cool ❤️❤️😌😌
What about the zipper? How did you adjust it?
All of a sudden putting a zip in a cushion is not so hard after all!
Hi. Cut cushions. Does your server have a ruffled foot? It would save you time of time as the machine will ruffle and attach the ruffles to fabric. It would make the final assembly easier to. Not as thick..
Thanks for the suggestion, I really need to get one of those!
Your checkered sleeve is in the way. Wear a short sleeve blouse. Great directions but had to rewind those parts.
Could a beginner sewer do this?
Yes totally! It’s a great project for beginners as it covers many different skills (gathering, zip etc) 😊
