I bought the 1" coupler from the link and the bellows needs to be aggressively pushed in and after the cutting the coupler I can't get it into the throat of the specialita. Should the coupler fit into the bellows and throat of the grinder pretty easy without additional sanding?
@@DSTKMovies Thanks for your response! I went back to home depot and the brand of 1" coupler they had given me when I did my online order was not the exact part in the link, it was a different brand. I was able to find the Charlotte piping brand 1" coupler and it fits perfect. It seems not all 1" couplers have the same OD. People should definitely take their bellows to make sure whatever they buy fits.
As long as you store the beans in an airtight container, it definitely prolongs the life and freshness of your beans. I usually keep unopened bags in the freezer but once I open them I dose them out into the little bottles and keep them in test tube holders in my freezer. I do not notice any issues with the glass tubes and I’ve kept those for at least 3-4 weeks. The sealed bags in the freezer last at least 2-3 months with no significant loss of freshness. Never kept any longer than that.
@@DSTKMovies Yep, You can keep beans even longer most likely, I think it still slowly ages / de-gasses if put in super fresh but at a slower rate. So if your beans were fresh roasted and too fresh to use, and then frozen you'll need to give them time to de-gass after defrosting. Also don't take them out of the freezer pour off some beans and put them back in, temp swings and condensation will make the coffee go downhill faster, also on a related note don't break the air tight seal until it's at room temp. A lot of people will take the beans out the night before they want to use them.
Hello, I love what you have done. I just got a very nice espresso machine, and I am looking for a compact grinder. It seems like your daily coffee routine is the same as mine, so this could be perfect. The issue is my wife still would like a pour-over. We have an Encore for that, but it would be nice to not have two grinders on the countertop. Have you ever tried to go between espresso and pour over? Is it easy to get back to your settings? I don't change my espresso beans that often. Also, can you make notes of settings for different beans and then go back to those settings easy and with consistent results?
Corey Petrick I find it easy to replicate settings for espresso. I usually single dose anywhere from 4-6 different coffees at any point and I have no trouble going back to the same setting with consistency. I don’t use the grinder for pour over so I can’t really comment on the quality for pour over but it should be very easy to go between the two.
Thank you. That is good to know about the settings being easy to return to and be consistent. I love your little bottles in the freezer idea, and I am taking that one. How long do you feel the beans on average stay fresh that way in the freezer? Now I just have to find an accurate reading on whether I can go back and forth with the pour-over. I heard you have the spin the dial a couple of times to grind pour-over. I wonder how that affects the grinder and the consistency going that far and back? The Niche Zero is the other option I have been considering, but unlike the classic looks of the Eureka and it goes better with my Profitec Pro 700.
@@Coreypet In the freezer in the single dosed bottles, I can easily get a month with no noticeable drop off in crema or flavor. Even the grind size setting needed for espresso stays the same. Doğukan Akdoğan yes the chamber is well sealed. There is a rubber collar in the throat of the grinder that extends below the top plate and seals the grind chamber off from the motor housing and keeps the internals clean. This is fortunate because not all eureka grinders have this.

hey I was wondering if that model of espresso machine is rotary pump or vibration? I am debating hard on wether or not I should purchase the rotary for the extra $$ and if its worth it. Whats your take on it? As i believe you really know what you're talking about when it comes to coffee. I really enjoyed this video. Thank you in advance !!
@@DSTKMovies Thank you for the reply!!! And from my research I have read the same. I was more concern about the taste. Some people say they can taste the difference between rotary pump vs vibe pump. Rotary pump tasting smoother and overall better. Would you agree from your experience? I am in line to buy a Rocket Giotto vibe machine .... wondering if you would recommend this as well?
Michael A not sure about a taste difference as I’ve never compared the two side by side. No experience with owning a Rocket. The best feature of my machine is the flow control, which is a feature that I believe can be retrofitted on most e61 machines. You can read about flow control on home barista for more info. Cheers and good luck.
Some people do seem to think Rotary gives a better flavour, but then other reputable people have claimed to do taste tests and found no or very little difference. I believe a lot of rotary machines ramp up in pressure a lot faster vs vibratory pump (which you'd think could be detrimental) but they might maintain that same pressure better (maybe), while I notice the pressure gauge on my vibratory machines fluctuating a little so that could have an effect.
Cajourno Oddity If you can’t find one it should still work without the o ring. The bellows should still have enough power to clear the ground out. The o-ring just helps more air pass through.
I just did this today with my Atom 75 and it works wonderfully. Just had to modify a few minor things since the throat is different but I'm getting back 17.9-18.0g grounds from 18g beans. Game changer. Thank you!
Thanks! It's a Lelit Bianca. E61 group head with full manual flow control via the wooden paddle above the group. It's really amazing when you learn how to exploit the flow control. I like to single dose and usually have about 3-5 different coffees dosed out it my freezer at any given moment. This machine, along with the near zero retention on my Eureka after the mods, makes it easy to switch between a traditional shot profile for a standard espresso blend vs. a long pre-infusion "slayer" style shot for light roasted single origin berry bombs. Also easy to emulate other shot profiles like traditional lever machines, with ramp ups and ramp downs as the shot pulls.
@@risbansThe ECM Classika is a great single boiler traditional E61 machine. Good for traditional espresso and only occasional milk drinks. It's not ideal for light, third wave city roasts that require longer, softer pre-infusions to properly extract unless you get the modified version from Whole Latte Love with the flow control, which would then give it similar extraction capabilities to the Bianca that I own. ECM is known for amazing build quality.
DSTKMovies Great video. I am considering flow/pressure control machines like Bianca , Vesuvius, Synchronika with flow control knob. Sorry for the late response. What you need is 1” PVC coupling, not 1” pipe. The coupling has and inner diameter of 1” but the outer diameter should fit the throat of the grinder.
I used a dremel to carve out a notch for the bump out in the grinder throat and sanded the edges smooth. I didn’t reduce the height at all so it could accommodate my normal 20g dose.

Anyone else have regular clogging with this grinder? I do and it's a pain to have to disassemble and clean it every week. My previous Mazzer lasted 15 years and never clogged.
Do you adjust to a finer setting when the grinder is on or off? If you do so when it is off, sometimes a bean that is already in the burrs will get sandwiched inside. Ways around it are to a) adjust finer when the motor is running b) go for this single doser mod and then no beans are in the burrs!
@@chrischarlton3598 Yes, very aware that the adjusting is done with the grinder running. Dealer says my beans are too oily, but shouldn't an espresso grinder be able to handle french roast?
@@DSTKMovies That is the wrong size coupler. I just bought the 1 1/4 coupler you listed and the OD is just under 2". The OD needs to be 1 5/8". I will go back to Home Depot tomorrow with my caliper and get the right size and report back here.
My Eureka Mignon Manuale has .1g retention at most. It is fairly new and I roast my beans pretty light. I wonder if darker beans are causing the retention problems I have seen on RUclips on the Eurekas.
Abbey Jane I think when you say .1g retention, you mean when you put 18g in and get 17.9-18g out. I believe about 2g of that 18g dose is exchange that occurs from the previous dose (retained mostly in the exit chute). This shouldn't make a big difference in the cup when you are dosing the same beans after each dose, but it can complicate things when switching between different coffees and grind sizes. The bellows allows you to get that 2g of retention out with each dose without the exchange.
@@DSTKMovies yep that is how it works. First shot will get down 2. Without this or a similar method all your next shots get 2g from the last shot. Great mod and video.

@@DSTKMovies thanks for the quick reply! I'm trying to work out how I can make this mod work for my Mignon E which has a smaller opening at the top. Would you mind sharing the diameter of the bellows opening/mouth? Thanks again:)

I have been looking for this bellow for a long time now, I cant find it :(
What scale are you using or which can you recommend for me?
do you use a 20g vst basket for a double shot here?
The "parking" for the distributor tool (58.55mm), where you have it placed after you used it, does it come with it when you buy it or not? I like that everything has its own place. Coulde you please advise me where to buy this?

* Did you make your own wdt tool or where did you buy it?
Sorry for being a pain but I am new and will get my Mara this friday and prepping my shopping list. Appreacite your video.

@@DSTKMovies thanks...
I actually thought you first had the Mara in this video:)
But now I understand it is the Bianca if I am not mistaken...
Even though the flow control on Mara does not equal the flow control on Bianca I think I’ll benefit from a longer pre infusion with it(as in better tasting espresso). Apparently one will benefit more with a machine with rotary pump with such a combination.
I tried to find the 60ml jars in Swedish Amazon but did not find them. What do you search for when finding them?

Does any of the pvc pipe get grinded?
Or is that no concern
No, the PVC is above the burrs and it does not touch them at all
i. edited mine to include a bit of pvc dust as i found the rDt method lacks origin strength to prefer 29NJ , at lesat with my conincal. Just add some pvc dust youll have to replace it and the burrs every couple days but its wicked good/.
I've got same set up. but the handle and pf are not centred on those tiny scales, the weight will surely be very inaccurate.
Did the coupler you used need any modifications? I bought the 1" coupler from the link and the bellows needs to be aggressively pushed in and after the cutting the coupler I can't get it into the throat of the specialita. Should the coupler fit into the bellows and throat of the grinder pretty easy without additional sanding?
Depending on how the lip of the coupling is finished, you may need to sand down the edges a little bit but not much.
@@jsheikh26 Awesome, glad to hear it worked out!
You store your coffee in the freezer? I thought freezers dried out the beans? I'd love to know if I have it wrong so I can store my beans longer.
Did you have to file the outside of the coupling for the bellows to fit?
No but I did sand a few rough edges. Just wash it well to clean any residual pvc dust
@@DSTKMovies that's weird coz I got the 1in coupling and it doesn't seem to exactly fit. I may actually have to file a few mm off for it to fit.
I have also pulled an unopened bag of coffee from the freezer 2 months after roast date with no major impact on flavor and crema,
Can you send a link in amazon to the things?
Hello, thx for that, the pipe should be 1 inch diameter?
The inner diameter is 1 inch. It is a coupling piece for 1 inch pvc pipes.
DSTKMovies thank you, I will try to find such pipe as I’m not from the US
Thanks for your video!!!! It's great!
Thanks so much and glad you liked it!
Hi, is the burr chamber sealed? if dust reaches the motor it might be a problem. Do you experienced any problem in longer term? thanks
Doğukan Akdoğan yes the chamber is well sealed. There is a rubber collar in the throat of the grinder that extends below the top plate and seals the grind chamber off from the motor housing and keeps the internals clean. This is fortunate because not all eureka grinders have this.
@@DSTKMovies thanks for the reply. i plan to make a for my mignon perfetto. but i have concerns about dust.

hey I was wondering if that model of espresso machine is rotary pump or vibration? I am debating hard on wether or not I should purchase the rotary for the extra $$ and if its worth it. Whats your take on it? As i believe you really know what you're talking about when it comes to coffee. I really enjoyed this video. Thank you in advance !!
Michael A it’s a Lelit Bianca and it is a rotary pump. Benefits vs. vibration pump are mainly it’s quieter and it can be plumbed in.
@@DSTKMovies Will defiantly do. Thank you Again!!
Some people do seem to think Rotary gives a better flavour, but then other reputable people have claimed to do taste tests and found no or very little difference. I believe a lot of rotary machines ramp up in pressure a lot faster vs vibratory pump (which you'd think could be detrimental) but they might maintain that same pressure better (maybe), while I notice the pressure gauge on my vibratory machines fluctuating a little so that could have an effect.
do you have a link for the seal, did not find at home depot or other in canada. Nice video i am building it for my new mignon.
Cajourno Oddity unfortunately I do not. I had that o-ring in with my tools but any rubber Oring should work
ok i will try to find one. :)
Cajourno Oddity If you can’t find one it should still work without the o ring. The bellows should still have enough power to clear the ground out. The o-ring just helps more air pass through.
i just completed the device with the seal. I am getting a lot of coffee dust everywhere, do you have some advice. It is very messy. Thank you
@@CajournoOddity Try just tapping the bellows a few times to get most of the retention out before fully depressing it.
I just did this today with my Atom 75 and it works wonderfully. Just had to modify a few minor things since the throat is different but I'm getting back 17.9-18.0g grounds from 18g beans. Game changer. Thank you!
What was that liquid you sprayed on the coffee beans?
Water. It helps to reduce static in the grounds and reduces retention.
Great vid, thanks. Which espresso machine do you own?
@@DSTKMoviesthank you. Did you consider the ECM Classika PID? Or is it in a different class/category?
@@risbansThe ECM Classika is a great single boiler traditional E61 machine. Good for traditional espresso and only occasional milk drinks. It's not ideal for light, third wave city roasts that require longer, softer pre-infusions to properly extract unless you get the modified version from Whole Latte Love with the flow control, which would then give it similar extraction capabilities to the Bianca that I own. ECM is known for amazing build quality.
DSTKMovies Great video. I am considering flow/pressure control machines like Bianca , Vesuvius, Synchronika with flow control knob. I read some owners said that the machine steel sheet is a bit thinner compared to ECMs and u might end up bending the edges of the group head . Have u experienced or noticed such a thing.
@@layas8690 not at all. the machine and metal components are very solid. Not sure vs. the ECM but you would have to really abuse it to cause any problems
Are you satisfied with the white grinder? Doesn’t it get dirty?
It was not difficult to keep clean. The white is a nicely polished painted surface and it wipes clean very easily with a microfiber towel. It does not stain or change color and the white looks very sharp.
Could you tell me the outer dimensions of the PVC pipe? So the total width. I don’t live in the US so I cannot get the HomeDepot one. I bought a 1 inch PVC pipe but it’s way too smal. I already bought the bellow from Amazon and received it. Thank you!
Sorry for the late response. What you need is 1” PVC coupling, not 1” pipe. The coupling has and inner diameter of 1” but the outer diameter should fit the throat of the grinder.
Can you please add a link to the bottle
Great idea. I'm trying it. How did you cut the coupling? I'm having trouble cutting the horizontal part.
I used a dremel to carve out a notch for the bump out in the grinder throat and sanded the edges smooth. I didn’t reduce the height at all so it could accommodate my normal 20g dose.
@@DSTKMovies thanks for the reply. I figured it out a little after I left the comment. Thanks again for the great idea.
@@DSTKMovies Did you measure the size of notch needed? Btw it would be very helpful if you could include links and notch dimensions in the product description.

Thank you very much for sharing your idea 😊👍🏽👍🏽
Ingenious! Thank you!

Just seen your links - ignore me. Many thanks
Sorry for the delayed response! Thanks Mike, let me know if you have any questions setting it up. Cheers!
What is RDT?
Ross Droplet technique - it's a method for very lightly wetting your beans with a fine mist of water before grinding to cut down on static electricity and reduce grinder retention.
Oh my god I should of taking it white! xD
I firmly believe we all coffee junkies are crazy. OCD and all.
My man waited a full 5 minutes between grinding and pulling the shot. Dusty old grounds! I would trash and start again.
I know it's not important and off topic, but from a nice b&w display to a cheep looking neon one... :(
Maybe it's just easier to buy something like the niche zero which is designed to be zero retention in the first place.
I'm not sure the time travel requirement part of your scenario makes this easier.
