By far, not my favorite violin Concerto but under the fingers and bow of this magician one can at least appreciate the queer beauty of Prokofieff with delight.
Wunderschöne und detaillierte live Aufführung dieses spätromantischen und perfekt komponierten Konzerts mit süßem doch gut phrasiertem Ton der unvergleichlichen Solovioline sowie gut vereinigten und perfekt entsprechenden Tönen der anderen Instrumente. Der zweite Satz klingt echt lebhaft und auch atemberaubend. Im Kontrast klingt der letzte Satz echt lyrisch und auch mysteriös. Der intelligente und geniale Dirigent leitet das ausgezeichnete Orchester in verschiedenen Tempi und mit künstlerisch kontrollierter Dynamik. Zweifellos eine der zehn besten Aufführungen dieses Meisterwerks im 20. Jahrhundert!
I don't think this recording is David Oistrakh. This recording is too good, too clear, for a live recording. It couldn't be a radio broadcast either. To do this, you should be able to hear the “hissing” noise when there are jumps in volume. Can anyone prove that Oistrakh performed at the Concertgebouw in October 1972, Haitink conducting?

Not everyone can take Prokofiev lying down! He has been an extremely controversial composer, even now. But an artist, like Oistrakh, lets us understand Prokofiev better, especially Prokofiev loved to work on his new compositions with soloists, before their rehearsals. There are many photos of him with Oistrakh, Gilels, Richter, Rostropovich. Knowing other music by Prokofiev, I always can hear reminders of his symphonies, ballets and even operas!
