This is the essential DnD experience: -DM panicking if everything is fine and not too difficult (Vexes) -Players discover a way to bypass a puzzle and the DM allows it because he thinks it's funny (Name tags) -Players die by means on their own (Punching each other into lava on accident) -Players destroy the planned trap (Boat) -DM forgot a crucial part and only notices it, after the players ran into an issue, fixing it in the background hastily (missing Redstone) -Getting soft locked (Button) -Cheesing their way around it, thinking this was the intended route (Boats) ⇾ Bunch of fun towards the end and afterwards the DM reveals just how much went wrong in the background xD This was amazing to watch, and it really shows that getting into TTRPGs is way easier than it seems
i have a session today and this video and comment were amazing and the other difference between this and dnd is the borderline offensive accents and voices the dm does

I think he meant "fresh off the generation" as in it wasn't a pre-vetted seed. Like they just launched the world and went with that seed then checked out the terrain just to get some ideas and collect thoughts before starting the video.

I had to pause the video for quite a while to recover from the shulkers saying "Ow, stop that!" Brilliant game design apart from the flammable button, but it couldn't have worked out better, as it turns out. That was a very creative solution to get through the bars. Great work from everyone. =)

Suggestion for Grian for similar stuff: In the room filled with completely white maps, the map borders are visible, which are a huge flaw to the room, unless intended. Since I'm guessing commands were allowed, `/give @s item_frame{EntityTag:{Invisible:1}}` gives you an invisible item frame, had you used an invisible one, the borders wouldn't be visible of the map.
This almost immediately gave me something like what I get from the Life series...It might seem like a pretty broad connection, but it's like, playing the game of Minecraft in this controlled, concentrated way, unlocking so many mechanics in ways that make me feel like how I thought of them in the early years of the game. It's Minecraft in it's full creative/sandbox glory combined with the adventure-fantasy video game world that feels so good to play in like there's more traditional objectives (in video games). And all the comments mentioning D&D/TTRPGs are very apt. There's so much potential in MC for custom kinda-RPG experiences, with the game being the bones of it all like the player's handbook and such are for D&D. So every dungeon master out there should be paying attention to the Life series, and now this.
I didn't have time to watch more than a few minutes of the video until the next morning, and now - this is one of the funniest things I've ever seen in MCYT!! I couldn't believe how much even-better the video got when they all started crashing the castle. Edit: 27:15 - LMAO!!! (a couple seconds later) 27:36 - "WOOO! WOOO!..." 31:12 - A little bit later, "It's like I'm hitting the crystals!!," and the 7-guardians blast charging up on Impulse
Every time he added a mob it just got more and more comical. Then the paintings were also amazing. The shulker set me off the first time and then it just kept going. Well played Grian, well played.
i know that this was intense to do from a logistics and time standpoint compared to the guess the builds, but this was the most entertaining and fun 6part series to watch ever. Also, a dystopian grian themed themepark in HC like this with a crazy games would be awesome.

I just wanna comment on the fact that I really liked the castle build itself. I love your serious builds, but seeing as you are the court jester of Minecraft (in a good way, if that wasn't clear), I feel like these kinds of satirical, irreverent builds merge the Grian the artistic and talented builder with Grian the entertainer and what you end up with is something that feels uniquely "you" (I mean, aside from th fact it has your face all over it lol). And from a viewer standpoint just feels like you have a lot of fun making these kinds of builds, which in turn is fun for us. Loved the video concept, can't see what friends you invite to the next one!
Unironically I think that visual where you walk in and there are Grian shulkers tweeting at you, twisted staircases, and weird Grian paintings everywhere (plus a reddish backdrop) is a fantastic representation of your mind. Great video! :)

It doesn't quite have the same effect. but it can get really close.
No matter what, you’d have to place entities like an item frame, because the smooth lighting on blocks stops an infinity room effect.
