I like how you're doing the restoration! Watched a lot of your recent videos and basically I'm atarting where you are too. Luckily in PNW (OREGON) my ae86 doesnt have as much rust as that in South Carolina.
Pull the fuse kick panel in driver footwell, check the 15 fuse for fuel. It could be blown and the ones on battery terminal. Fuel pump is internal style. Must remove tank to replace it. You can get to the sender and bracket from the rear hatch access. However to get to the pump you must drop the tank by raising the car or use a pit. flared wrenches for the fuel lines and a good soak with penetrating oil 1st. Then work on disconnect the fuel filler neck so you can clearance the tank dropping. The straps are next that hold the tank and a jack raised up really helps when replacing it or removing solo. Check your grounding points>engine block to driver framerail>cylinder head to firewall>trans to firewall or bottom of chassis. Electrical gremlins can be hard to chase down in these. Toyota used open ground on these 80s economic driftboxes. Tank is usually the worst spot everyone talks about the fenders and pockets but the reality is the gas tank is the worst spot. Getting it replaced or relined with new pump, new pickup/sock, fuel filter lines and new plugs and then tackle next brakes or body while waiting for your swap parts to arrive. I vote stay brown/maroon cause its dope. Dont care what engine you throw in but a 3sge or 3sgte looks like the most fun for the $ short of a hasselgren fa 4a
That’s a tough call. Are you talking about a gts interior or SR5? It’s really personal preference. Imo, I like the silver and black combo, that’s what I have in my 86 coupe. I also like black interiors, and I think you would have more luck finding bits and pieces of those more than the GTS maroon interior pieces. Best of luck, love watching your resto on both hatches!!
Hey man yeah I have a good bit of maroon but like you said it seems impossible to find parts unless I go to Japan. I'm gonna do my best to try and piece back the maroon since I have most of it and if all else fails then I'll go to the black and gray
Id guess maybe your plan is to K swap it? maybe BEAMS? And I say keep the maroon man! its so good for 80s Corollas. Im slowly converting my hatch to the maroon/red GTS color scheme.
Actually I was thinking about doing a 1jz. And I'm slowly been convinced of keeping the maroon, Only problem is that it seems to be more rare than the black or gray
