Red Ball 4 TASing has been my passion ever since I joined the community, and there's a LOT of work that went in behind the scenes to make some of the most insane looking TASes I've seen. I'll say this since everyone is asking:
This is about the Flash (computer) version of the game. On Flash, there are only 3 volumes.
There are 2 more volumes that are exclusive to the mobile app - Battle for the Moon, and Into the Caves. TAS tools for the mobile app have only been developed very recently - I have only made a TAS for volume 4, not for volume 5. But even when it's done, I don't think Maximum is going to make videos about volumes 4 and 5.
Also, on the mobile app, in volume 3, the lasers instantly kill you, making laser phases impossible. This trick is only possible on the Flash version, so if you try it on the mobile version, you will die. There are some more differences between Flash and mobile so some other tricks might not work on the app.
Also, if you're asking "wouldn't it be faster if..." the answer is most likely no. There are a lot of factors that go on that aren't explained here - position and velocity manipulation down to the thousandths place, hidden cycles and speed-locks, etc, that are not explained in the video so as not to bore the viewer with things like "To do this level properly, you need your speed to be exactly 15.481234. (yes this is a real thing)" However, I am always open to new suggestions - the biggest of timesaves often come from a fresh pair of eyes!

@@alimbis yes, if you code the game to automatically trigger the end as soon as you hit start, you can actually get the TAS down to 0:00.000

i remember being absoloutley OBSESSED with this triology as a little girl; me and my friends would play it all the time in the computer lab to see who could get the fastest time soe highest scores, so seeing it develop such an amazingly talented and dedicated speedrunning community makes me unbelievably happy and proud. keep up the fantastic work max!
I still only ever played red ball as a kid but seeing that laser get tanked was the most shocking thing out of all these videos, amazed its not an insta-kill

I love how Volume 2's puzzle-based design is completely broken by just "Yeah, you can jump over the trees". Makes me wonder if it was at all intentional...
double jumping was confirmed unintentional by the developer but it honestly does feel almost too easy sometimes. very funny how that works
Well, I meant just jumping over the trees in general. Though perhaps that's only really possible with the Double Jumping.@@notverygood6817
And there's also a double jump trick on mobile where you have to press jump like 8 times to jump again, it's(the glitch) most likely intentional

This whole thing is amazing to me. As an amateur speedrunner I am impressed by a lot of things, but I am also an amateur programmer and so TAS speedruns are extremely interesting for me to learn about.
Also, on a side note, the music in these two videos was really good and made it feel more engaging. I just wanted to applaud you and your work, you did really well!!

26:35 I recently started playing these more, and that felt so insane to see XD
While there are 3 volumes in the FLASH version, the MOBILE version (as far as i'm aware of) has 2 more worlds, battle for the moon, and the caves.

With the one laser that goes the wrong direction, is it not possible to get through it 2 frames earlier? The remainder of the level didn't damage Red Ball, so to a layman like me, I'd assume it'd be possible when waiting for the laser to get a safe distance on the right to have Redball to leave precisely two frames earlier and increase velocity sooner to make the level very slightly faster. Or is there no possible window to touch a wrong-way laser for only 2 frames, even if it's just the last two frames?

that is actually a very interesting idea... but i think that if you preserved the speed from the previous level, you would be too fast and you'd have to slow down to even be able to pass through at the last 2f. and i don't think you would be able to slow down that much anyway in the little time you have there... very interesting to think about though!
and speeding up again is not plausible, the conveyor just won't allow it. take a look again and try to imagine a way through 33:48

Do you think the developers made this intently or its just luck that this much corner boosts(3:46 for ex or 26:36 was close )and frame perfect screen three jump think is possible?
The developer confirmed that double jumps were unintentional, but corner boosts are mainly just a product of the physics engine, as that mechanic shows up in lots of Box2D games.
