  • Skegness, a seaside holiday town on Lincolnshire's east coast, isn't just a resort town, it's a portal to classic British seaside experiences. We have a walk from the beach and seafront, along the promenade, into the town and down to the pleasure beach and pier.
Imagine miles of golden sands melting into the North Sea, the perfect canvas for building sandcastles that rival medieval fortresses. Take a refreshing dip in the cool waters, or continue a tradition over a century old with a donkey ride along the water's edge.
The Skegness seafront thrums with activity. Bustling arcades overflow with games that test your reflexes and tickle your funny bone. Adrenaline seekers can find their fix at the Skegness Pleasure Beach, a wonderland of thrilling rides and joyous screams. After a day of excitement, test your skills at the ten-pin bowling alley, or lose yourself in the mesmerizing illuminations that bathe the pier in an ethereal glow. The iconic Embassy Theatre offers a delightful show to cap off a perfect evening.
But Skegness caters to more than just classic seaside fun. Families will find themselves spoilt for choice. The Natureland Seal Sanctuary provides a heart-warming opportunity to learn about rescued seals, penguins, and otters.
The Skegness Water Leisure Park promises a day of aquatic adventures on water slides and in swimming pools.
Budget-conscious travelers will find solace in Skegness's affordability. A range of self-catering apartments, caravan parks, guesthouses, and hotels offer comfortable stays that won't break the bank. Delicious and affordable meals are never far away, with restaurants, cafes, and fish and chip shops lining the streets.
Skegness offers hidden gems. History buffs can take a trip back in time with a visit to the Skegness Clock Tower and learn about the town's rich past. Or, for an evening of entertainment, the Embassy Theatre offers a window into the world of classic seaside shows.
Whether you're a family with young children seeking sandy adventures, a group of friends yearning for a fun-filled getaway, or a couple looking for relaxation by the sea, Skegness has something special to offer everyone.
Here are the top ten picks for must-visit locations when planning your Skegness escape:
    1. *Skegness Beach:* The star of the show, this sprawling golden beach is the perfect place for building sandcastles, enjoying a refreshing paddle in the North Sea, or simply soaking up the sun.
    2. *Natureland Seal Sanctuary:* Home to rescued seals, penguins, otters, and a variety of other marine animals, the Natureland Seal Sanctuary offers a heartwarming opportunity to learn about conservation efforts and see these fascinating creatures up close.
    3. *Skegness Pleasure Beach:* A haven for thrill-seekers, Skegness Pleasure Beach is a wonderland of exhilarating rides, from high-speed rollercoasters and waltzers to bumper cars and family-friendly attractions.
    4. *Embassy Theatre:* Steeped in history, the Embassy Theatre is a Skegness institution. Catch a captivating performance, stand-up comedy show, or a family pantomime.
    5. *Skegness Aquarium:* Embark on an underwater adventure at the Skegness Aquarium, where a diverse array of marine life awaits, from local fish species to captivating sharks and colorful coral reefs.
    6. *Skegness Clock Tower:* A prominent landmark, the Skegness Clock Tower offers panoramic views of the town and surrounding coastline.
    7. *Hardy's Animal Farm:* A delightful haven for animal lovers, Hardy's Animal Farm allows you to get up close and personal with a variety of farmyard friends
    8. *Fantasy Island:* Situated just outside Skegness, Fantasy Island is a larger theme park offering a wider selection of exhilarating rides and attractions, perfect for a day trip filled with screams and laughter.
    9. *Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve:* Escape the buzz of the town center and explore the natural beauty of Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve.
    10. *Skegness Water Leisure Park:* Enjoy a splashtastic day at the Skegness Water Leisure Park, featuring water slides, swimming pools, and a lazy river, ideal for families with young children.

Ah the memories! I always found it to be such a pleasant place as a child and in my working life too. At weekends we would work special holiday trans to Skegness when I was a Guard at Rotherwood. The old coaching stock with compartments would fill up with old people staying in lodgings as they called them. He would be wearing a white shirt and grey flannels with the waistband round his chest, and either a flat cap or a knotted handkerchief on his bonce. She would be in a frock with a new apron over the top, and would be sporting hair curlers with a headscarf over the top. The whole train would smell of moth balls. During the journey, out would come the sandwiches and flask of tea, and the air would be alive with the sound of clattering plastic teeth., which they produced from a pocket or handbag. We'd later pick up the ones we'd taken the week before and fetch them back to Sheffield. The following week that cycle would repeat. What I liked about it was the three hour turnaround in which we could get free fish and chips from the grateful shop owners and go to play some daft game in an arcade instead of the normal constant slog of freight working. It brought back memories of colleagues who are no longer with us.

Lovely video. I love to see Skegness and do miss it when I'm not there.
I think the reason it keeps getting voted the worst is because the people surveyed tend to be ones who want to go to quiet little places, out of the way, with not many young families. It certainly doesn't deserve to be vpted the worst. There is so much to see and do. And the sandy beach, as you say, is so big. It is never overcrowded, plenty of space.
Skegness is perfect for me and my family. We come back every year. And it isn't just the beach and so on either- it's the people. They are always so welcoming and friendly. Thanks for the video❤

Skegness, a beautiful little seaside town. I live just up the road Boston 45 minutes drive away and I think Skegness is brilliant. And it’s faring a lot better than some seaside towns and most definitely does not deserve the bad reputation of bad seaside town that it gets on the Internet. There are a lot worse places when it come to seaside town. I’m looking at you Blackpool when you catch Skegness on a day like this when the weather is on your side for half a day a breakaway having a little walk round having a drink can’t go wrong like I said skeg gets a load of bad press but doesn’t deserve it. Places is okay, not brilliant but a lot better than it gets credit for

We always went to Skeggy for our holidays. Easy to get to from Coventry - M69 - M1- A46 - A158 - about 4 hours if you stop for a break. Stopped going about 5 years ago now due to personal circumstances. The beaches there are truly enormous and are sandy - no pebbles! There is always something to do. We used to stay just off the North Beach in a boarding house with our dogs of the moment. On a typical day I'd to take them for their morning walks to the beach and got a paper on the way back.
Then off in our car to a car boot with dogs (they went everywhere) just after 10 a.m. - there's one EVERY day in different places. About midday we'd stroll downtown towards the clock tower and perhaps a seat in nearby Tower Park for an hour. On a Sunday they used to have bands playing there - very nice. There was a kiddies play area there as well. Then off for a walk round town to look in the charity shops and markets and call in at an outside cafe for lunch. Afternoons, after shopping for tea, usually a stroll to the beaches. Sometimes a visit north up the Roman Bank to Ingoldmells or Mablethorpe past the many beaches. Sometimes on a Sunday we'd go to Burgh Le Marsh (15 min drive) and have lunch at one of the many pubs - again all dog friendly. There's a pleasure beach, golf course and scores of attractions at night - what more could you want? I've been to a lot of England's holiday spots and, believe me, Skeggy knocks them all for six!
You can park just off the prom in the back streets just about anywhere in Skeggy - no yellow lines! Everywhere is very clean and well looked after. Must have gone to Skeggy for at least 15 years consecutive - that's how much we liked it. As I remember it never once rained. Blazing hot sun, cloudless skies, every day (like this Gimbal video). Very hot. Great weather - until we returned to Coventry!
