    Skegness has been voted as the worst seaside resort in the UK for the last 4 years in a row by the consumer group Which? - I've been visiting Skegness since I was a kid and love the place, and having been to plenty of other seaside towns across the UK over the years, there's no way I can accept that this is the worst one. So in the this video we tour the Skegness seafront, beaches and attractions to prove that Skegness is NOT the worst seaside town in the UK!

    I never understand how Skegness consistently gets voted the worst seaside destination, I've always loved this place and after a visit earlier this year, I still do. There are definitely worst seaside resorts in the UK, I would interested to see the scoring criteria.

      Likely people voted never been some people have air snobbery if north of watford has to be a dump mentality. Sadly these are people tend to vote can effect issues with swaying people to stay away. Actually think these polls do more harm than good over egging average places down playing good places. Some down or upgrade places if they had good experience or bad which nothing to do with location as example.
      Was it down to experience who knows, i went to clacton when i was young many years back that was a dump whether its better now. I always feel people have downer on lincolnshire as a whole no idea why lot worse places to live or visit and people are friendly.

    Good mornig Kevin, where's Anna? Being a newbie to your splendid channel (1st. time earlier today and my third film of the day) don't thin, I've ever been to 'Skeggie', but back in late 1960s we had a fortnight in a caravan park in nearby Mabelthorpe, whilst enjoying the beach I found a 'live' round of WW11 ammo, as a ten year old I knew nothing of such stuff, hid it, and took it back to the caravan park and proudly showed it off to the site, who, along with my mum and nan, all had a 'pink fit' and I ended up placing it in a bucket of sand he had for the occasional bllet that turned up on the beach which was used for practice by the soldiers back in WW11. 55 years later, I wish I'd gone to Skegness, but was too young to travel on my own (aged 10) Your films are bringing back some very happy, memories of my now distant past. What more could you expect from a seaside resort? Thank you both & VBW X

    You're quite correct to say your not having it. I'll never forget coming to Skeggie back in the very early Seventies by train, coming to the station was the express from Nottingham pulled by two class 20 diesel locomotives that have now become legendary as "the Jolly Fisherman Express" I then caught a service bus or single decker to Butlins! My Dad, mum and I caught the DMU from Skeggie to Mablethorpe by train before the line was closed, so happy memories!
    I am going to a seaside town to chill and to savour the moment, as I was born in a coastal town, for me there is always a magnetic draw even more so as I live in a town!
    I have to ask what are you going to Skeggie for or any seaside town for that matter?
    Here is the biggest thing our seaside towns have going for them your within 100 miles of one plus you don't have jump on a plane to go, you go for a quick weekend away! They're ideal for the six weeks school holiday and allow you to destress from work!
    As regards the brown sea this is due to sand from the many off-shore sandbars.
    I am wondering if people are jealous of Skegness as sits as the only big resort between the Yorkshire Coast
    and Great Yarmouth on the Norfolk Coast!
    However the number of static caravans surrounding really speak for the town.
    With Butlins at Ingoldmells issuing day passes you can always use their indoor swimming facilities if its raining too! www.butlins.com/discover-butlins/things-to-do/pools/skegness-pool

    Hi kevin i remember my very first holiday to Skegness as i went with a childrens home in 1971 as i was in a boarding school at the time and my mother didn't allow me home in the summer hols so the home took me with them, and we all stayed on what looked like a holiday centre for children which resembled military style sleeping blocks which we could see Butlins from, we had to walk down this roadway to the main rd cross over the main rd and walk along pavement which took you to a large complex which comprised of an outside pool surrounded with 4 half glass walls which you could see the sea out of, there was also many seaside gift outlets and cafes etc a fair ground and a cinema which doubled up as a Theatre etc, and we watched panto with LULU i it singing you make me want to shout can't remember the name of the seaside complex or the holiday centre

    seaside places to go, if you ever want to take Andy up to liverpool for the churches and cathedrals id also look in to new brighton little fair and arcade and apparently the best beach in the north west. going right up to the end of to Wallasey beach (minuets in the car) is one of my favourite places, no tourest just locals. theres also turbines in the sea too. many a moment spent there while at uni as its a quick trip on train (underground in the city) might be worth a look at

    Yes its a little run down in places but I love Skeggy. Many happy childhood memories from the 80's when we used to stay in a guest house every year. We used to rent one of the now derelict chalets near the pier for the week as a base during the day.
    Think sticking a Maccies near the front doesn't look great.
    Plenty of free street parking to be had in the streets just back from the front.

    I have a lot of nostalgia for Skegness. I grew up in Boston and used to go to Skegness regularly. When I was a kid I loved it, spent loads of time going up on the train with friends and spending tons of cash playing arcade games and going in the Pleasure Beach.
    The key problem with Skegness that also plagues Blackpool as well is the abject poverty in the area leading to a lot of crime. I think the reason Blackpool gets a pass is the Pleasure Beach which has some serious rides. I agree it's better than Hunstanton or Cromer overall, but to compare 90s Skegness with my last visit in 2022 it is a very very depressing place to be - especially out of season. Blackpool hasn't changed a huge amount though. The constant issues in the 2000s of businesses "mysteriously burning down" was a real issue too, so a lot of Skeg Vegas I remember doesn't exist any more.
    I did play a DJ set at Grand Central in like 2008, that was a lot of fun!

    • @AVanLifeThing
      @AVanLifeThing 9 месяцев назад +1

      Absolutely. I used to live in Sutterton ( nearish Boston) and used to get the train at least a couple of times int he season. Blackpool has a vibe that Skegness sadly doesnt have. There's always some noise or music to keep things going, whereas Skegness has shops closing at 4.30pm sadly. Once you been into on arcade thats about it and the pier having half the lights out on the walk out to the end doesnt help.
      Bear in mind I was there mid summer season and sadly (and I mean that sadly) that seaside town vibe wasnt there f0r me. If you loved it much respect to anyone.

    • @mrrayner7162
      @mrrayner7162 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@AVanLifeThing It's nice to see that people are enjoying it though. If there was some decent investment I think Skegness could go far, but with it being all fish and chips, slot machines and water filled with effluent it kind of takes a lot of the magic away that isn't lost if you go to other seaside towns.
      It doesn't have the attractions of Blackpool, the historical significance of places like Whitby or Brighton (which has a wicked nightlife all year round), the beauty of Filey, or access to overseas destinations like Southampton or Dover. For a "destination" town it really isn't much of a destination.

    • @AVanLifeThing
      @AVanLifeThing 9 месяцев назад

      @@mrrayner7162 Absolutely! I dont want to do member berries but... I remember when you would have an arcade you would goto because it had a marque thing inside it. Once you've been into one it's a copy and paste sadly but I do get the penny pushers and making cash is the main thing.
      What really shocked me was in the middle of peak season it was dead. I'll happily stop there if im in the area but like you said I'd not make it a "must go there" but thats in part because its 6 hours from me lol

    • @mrrayner7162
      @mrrayner7162 9 месяцев назад

      @AVanLifeThing I get what you mean on the copy-paste thing. I presume a lot of the arcade games have been replaced by slot machines, and that seems to be the M.O. of a lot of these arcade owners. Cheaper costs for higher profits. With games, it's a case of put a quid in, play it for one, maybe two, sessions and move on. Not great turnover for a system that probably costs ten of thousands to have. For the same money into a slot machine, you get people sitting for hours playing it, hoping for a jackpot. I won't go into the socio-economics of preying on gambling addicts, but needless to say, preying on the vulnerable earns more than passing trade of kids and nerds like me.
      Again, with the lack of attractions, Skegness has lost its lustre. There's a bit of beauty in the surrounding area, but 4 mini golf courses, an aquarium and an out of date amusement Park with no standout attractions doesn't draw crowds.

    former lincolnshirians unite! i used to live around boston way, and went up skeg every summer or so. I was up here about 2 weeks ago on a family visit holiday as i still have friends and relatives in the shire. skegness is honestly great even out of season, in fact id say its probably one of the better seaside towns to visit out of season becuase of how cheap accomodation is OOS and theres enough open and to do over a weekend or even midweek.
    in terms of points of interest too, theres the allsorts shop, that does replica weapons and cool stuff if you're into fantasy movies and anime, theres sweetooth which is actually better than some of the places in birmingham and maybe even london for american imports (first place ive ever seen that actually has gfuel and oh henry bars), if you take a left at the spoons theres a collectables store and a model shop and then salts (imo the best chippy in all of skeg, and ive been to a few).
    now OUTSIDE of skeg if you wanted to go a bit further afield your options are admittedly perhaps a bit more limited. and one huge huge downside for lincolnshire in general for me at least is there are like almost no local game stores, aka LGS's for organised trading card game play. from skeg youd have to go about 39 miles to the nearest, which i forget where exactly it was becuase i never went to check it out becuase of the distance. so if you're a card gamer, id have to instead reccomend somewhere like cornwall, which at least has 1 or 2 places in truro for that.
    in my humble opinion, i actually think ingoldmelds is lower tier than skeg. yes it has fantasy island but thats ALL it has going for it, good for interesting market stuff and rides, but no 'town centre' to speak of, and no landmarks or anything more chill and laid back like a nice park from what i saw of it. it dosent even have a supermarket for your essentials and skegness has an entire 3! madness lol.

    • @chaoticjexak
      @chaoticjexak 8 месяцев назад

      hecki would actually call pendine one of the worst seaside towns in the uk. not becuase its rundown or nasty or anything, but there is simply not that much there. and the signals awful becuase theres a massive hill. the only reason to go down ther (and the reason i was there) was the pendine sands hot rod drags.
      note: i do consider it a seaside town becuase it has a honking great holiday park in it, and theres a beach. admittedly a nice beach, but thats all it really has going for it.

    Skegness has been a part of my whole life, family days out as a kid, partying as a young man and now family days out as a dad. I'm biased obviously as it's close by and I will admit the shopping side of town is a little lacklustre but the seafront itself is probably the best its been in years, the pedestrianisation of the road from the clock tower to the RNLI station has been a massive improvement.
    Skegness will always get my vote.
    Can I also say a big congratulations on the Guiness World Record.

AFAIK the place is cheap and you can have a proper seaside holiday. You might be surprised how boring North Devon is, over-priced and full of second homes now.

    Love Skeg, been visiting all my life. I now live on the south coast, and southern coast resorts (with perhaps, the exception of Brighton) are dull by comparison and don’t even have sandy beaches! I think those that are voting are snobs who have never visited Skeg (or haven’t been in 20 years).

    I don't think its the worst seaside town. I've been on holiday there for years, and recently the town has undergone a major refresh.
    The South area has the Atlantis Golf, The Aquarium & Dinosaur Area, The Upside Down House, the pedestrianised area...
    The 'Middle' has the refurbished pier, the Premier Inn, The KFC and a bar at the end of the pier...
    And the North has Natureland, Arnold Palmer and... OK, that area is pretty much run down and forgotten apart from those 2 main attractions.
    The South Side is amazing, as are the changes/planned changes for the pier. But the North Side needs stuff now, as it does feel forgotten and 'dead' even though its a short stretch of seaside.
    I can also see the seaside transforming into a place for clubs, partying and nightlife, which is a bit concerning considering it is a family holiday resort...

    I don’t think it’s the worst… at all. Maybe the people it can attract like any seaside… loads of rough commoners everywhere… but it’s part of the fun, who doesn’t want to watch a family having a full blown argument in the arcade with kids kicking and screaming 😂 free entertainment ! But no, not the worst and if you strip it back like you have. There is lots to see, do and enjoy.

    Hello guys, open Tuskegee a couple of times but we’re going in September to the wall needs to be Brooklyns no it’s not a new caravan park brand-new for this year. I wondered if you had a walk around that we could tell us because we haven’t been for a couple of years, and I’m a bit confused, I know there’s Butlins it’s usually think you should be bored. Please put the sound up on the 3rd-one now, but I think you get some favourite song on that as well. So plenty for viroids for kids up you. Did you notice of any vegan or vegetarian shops Because I’m vegan and my daughter put it up sure she’s coming or not because she doesn’t like travelling very much Jess even though she went to Canada and Mexico in a matter of 12 months I like to have a mobile shop because I’m disabled and I got the scooter and a lot of the market to the sale on the market because I used to be my one of my favourite places But don’t worry Liz video you really are because some people think of Skegness or the house Keggy boring boring boring I haven’t been on all around Skegness we stopped at them. Where can we stop now will you marry before for more thinking might before and I was like 30 miles down the road to Avon Cord record now, do you know the weather in anyway it’s a very big Avon site but the trouble is you have to drive 30 miles to get to skeg skeg E or you can go back on yourself. I’m going to New Haven at the time we wasn’t driving so we went on the coach the train sorry then the train at Doctors by the bus station in my before Four is it skeg E no now go to run. The bus driver says you have to get on the bus and drive down to the park recruited with a load of food shopping because do you know expensive food is in the small campsites so I took went to the little still there, and I got some food. I would love to go on the boat now old for over an end up in the water because you’re a disability which is really nice and shoulders hallway round to the schedule never now and we’re gonna be there on the 25th which is my daughter‘s birthday and it’s for memorial for because I lost that to years ago and it’s broken her off because she loved skeg E and I said I come back for her and I’m coming back on it. I’m coming down on her birthday so it won’t be so hard because we can work on Bridgnorth she’s coming she said we lost I have a medium that comes in and I could never know that Sophie comes out with this is amazing but they’re just gonna be me husband me and my daughter I need the new caravan park off go with Courtney and I reckon it’s a really nice park. I think it was on by whiskey the fairies I think it’s over on the left-hand side but I’m not sure so perhaps you could check it out for me but great video. Let me know if you do anymore I’ve subscribed and liked and would love to see more of these old fashion fair grounds. I’ve been through a lot but it’s always notify new okay then thank you

It was incredible to watch the children go through the same joy as I did. Yes it is tacky, yes us British are fat and ugly, but that should not mean ti vote it as the worse place lol. If you had kids then the whole experience of a caravan and the club house and the rides, fish & chips, árcades, and on & on & on & on. It's the best place for children. ❤.

    Bring my kids to Skegness. I think people putting it down are wrong, yes some areas need a little paint and some seating areas need a clean. But compare it to other places it has very little bottle necks plenty green space , in the park you almost forget you at the seaside. Please don't mix up butlins and fantasy islands up the road, for me thats is too much.
