I'm a resident and business owner in the town and these surveys can do SO much damage to the already difficult tourist industry, especially in the wake of the pandemic. Many businesses, b&b's and guest houses have suffered and these anonymous surveys do nothing to help.

One of the best seaside resorts in the country!
Has one of the best climates.
It doesn't rain ever day as it does at a certain large resort on the
    English West Coast.
Neither does the sea disappear to somewhere in Ireland when the tide goes out.
It isn't boring with steep pebble beaches like many resorts on the South Coast.
We are all supposed to be
'village idiots' in Lincolnshire so perhaps
WHICH Magazine think we are a pushover.
We are neither idiots or a pushover.
A lot of money has been invested into the resort over the last decade.
It will always be popular with people from the Midlands and the
    North of England.
It's only a small resort but still has everything for a great family holiday!
WHICH Magazine are talking 'out of the end of their pier.
Yes I do have that shot of the
    Clock Tower.
    Go Skeggy!! 👍 🦭 🐟🐬 🌞

Skegness is amazing I love it, and it's so close to fantasy island in Ingoldmells, then you have the open top buses which are awesome and blare out music, there's a great atmosphere in skegness, my only downside was the size of the pier, but having said that there so many amusements and things to do around it that really its a non issue,, the which survey is a load of nonsense

  • @jimpydee4729
    @jimpydee4729 Год назад +40

The area with the shuttered huts is pending re-development. As mentioned the pier is under recent new ownership after decades of relative decline. It looks like they are serious about spending big money to revamp the whole attraction over the next few years. Large parts of the boating lake where you were and the corner right near the clock tower adjacent to the aquarium have new plans afoot. The council put out tenders just this past year for proposals to redevelop fair sized chunks of the more empty or run down areas right on the sea front. Prime spots for new ventures. Opposite the seal sanctuary the old town hall has also recently been sold off to a well known local businessman who has invested a lot on the sea front already such as the building with the pirates chip shop and bar you featured. So there is expected further developments there. The railway station which is first point of entry for a huge number of people will be revamped. There is a bit of an ongoing fight over pedestrianisation of the upper end of the main shopping street near the clock tower, perhaps a short term test will eventually see how that goes. This will all take time and nothing is for certain but the signs are good, that there is money flowing into the town and it still has attraction for investors. Locals are optimistic, it does look on the cards and hopefully will reverse quite a bit of the deterioration of prominent tourist areas of the town. Go back in 5 years and I think there will be quite a few changes.

In 1969 myself and my mum rode the 16 seater eli wheel there and the operator went over the road to the cafe and shouted.."call when you want to come off"..pre hswa 1974 of course..lol..

Skeg has also had loads of investment with new buildings and attractions so not really a run down resort like many others in the uk

God knows why Skegness gets bad ratings - I’ve never had any problems with it, and there’s definitely worse places lol. Has everything you need for kids, families and adults for a day trip or few days holiday.
I live in Nottinghamshire so practically everyone knows of Skegness, I think it’s shit on a lot especially by richer people because literally everyone goes to Skeg in that region.
They are happy to shit on it online but have a right ole time when they go there is what I’ve noticed

The problem with Skegness is it’s clientele. They leave rubbish all over the beach like dirty nappies, beer bottles and cans and the council never clean it.
The whole ethos of the town is beer, beer and chips.
It’s actually a great town with fantastic locals and local businesses such as Lings and the little donut stand opposite Lings run by the same family for years. Lings is a great family arcade that genuinely care about their customers and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful.
The Mellors family are investing a fortune into Skegness and Ingoldmells, but even Fantasy Island needs an upgrade. Again less alcohol and more family orientated venues instead of pubs and fake goods on what has the potential to be a great market.
Skegness is only what the people who frequent it make it. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with the town.
And just out of interest, since when has “shire” been pronounced “sheer”? I must be missing something because everyone seems to be doing that recently! 😂😂

Brilliant video Tim 👌🏼 When I was a kid (I’m 33 now) we used to do alternate trips each summer to Blackpool one year and Skegness the next because we didn’t have a lot of money. I have to say, both have improved loads! I took my own kids to Skegness recently and we loved it. It was very clean, loads of tired looking places had either been renovated or replaced with new structures and it all generally looked a lot nicer on the eye and less tacky. My opinion is that if you’re not working class or you grew up with money, you won’t ‘get’ or appreciate Skegness.

A log had got stuck at the bottom of the final climb on the conveyor between the water trough and the pull up.He was walking the track and testing i.e. kicking all the sensors to see if it would free the log. Unfortunately for the riders it didn't and after a few moments discussion a step ladder was brought and the lady and gent had to climb over the railings and back into the station. I truly find it depressing, full of badly dressed overweight people of a certain demographic and mobility scooters. Dodgy looking pubs, amusement arcades, burger food joints and junk food restaurants complete the scene. The sea…well it’s the North Sea, freezing cold and not exactly very clear with the backdrop of those lovely wind turbines. The only thing I like, the only redeeming features are the Indian restaurants and the lovely popular Artisan independent coffee shop on the Main Street. I visit once a month for work and It tickles me that some people use their holiday time to come to Skegness, I just find the idea completely nuts. Hi Tim, me again. This year I set out from London on my bicycle (May 5th) to cycle up to the North of Scotland, up the east of Britain cross from east to west and come back down the Westside as far as Bristol, then back to London. The reverse of my 2014 expedition. To try to cover areas of Britain I haven't done before (not many left) after Boston I decided to follow the coast. Skegness being the first seaside town. I camped in the dunes near the Butlins just to the north of Skegness. After Skegness I went to Mablethorpe, then Cleethorpes, the Grimsby (godawful place) then crossed the Humber, Hull, Hornsea, Bridlington, Scarborough, Whitby (currently wild camping just outside York, had to backtrack somewhat. Part of the expedition requires a 'mission to take care of in York where I've been these last three weeks and will be heading north again middle of next week, hopefully, 'mission' complete'). Anyway, Skegness is ok. Like Blackpool, but not gone to seed. And easily the nicest spot up the Lincolnshire coast. You want to see a dump of a seaside town? Visit Cleethorpes. It's a real hole, also an overpriced rip off and the people are unfriendly (have a look at my Facebook, I've been keeping a log/journal of the places I've been visiting, my impressions and experiences there. Cleethorpes is easily the worst seaside town up that section of the coast. Of the Yorkshire coast, Bridlington is about the seediest and Whitby easily the most boring (OAP's and middle aged Tory types, apart from the Abbey and the fossil hunting, there's bog all to do. Not a young town at all. Nothing for younger people. Dull and old). Scarborough is ok though. Bit of everything. Skegness? Better than Mablethorpe and way nicer than Cleethorpes. Note though. Bloody expensive. Hardly any Tesco's or Sainsbury's anywhere up the coast. It's like Spar and Coop have a monopoly and their prices are way higher than the regular supermarkets. I wild camp and keep it real, because I want to see/experience it for real not as a tourist. Also I'm on a shoestring budget as my expeditions usually last the whole summer (and on occasion autumn and even winter). 2013, I did a European tour. 11 countries, over 7 months covering approximately 7,500km. From 2013 to 2018, there was only 2015, I didn't spend most of the year, 'on the road'. 2018, health reasons, I had to stop. 2019 was preparing for another in 2020, then the lockdowns came. 2021, my health (diabetes with complications) got worse again. But this year I was determined and was on top of most of my health issues so....... But for BREXIT and the travel complications and our unpopularity in Europe now, I'd be on the road heading for the south of France. How I hate BREXIT! Anyway, have a look at the journal, and see what Britain and the British in the different areas are like. From ground level as something of a cycle nomad. T. BTW to see the Lincolnshire section you'll have to scroll down a bit. Also btw, I'm writing this from my tent, wild camped on a field (common ground, kinda hidden and no one's bothered me at all) within sight of Monks Cross leisure centre, a 'one stop shop' where I have access to toilets, showers and library (to charge my phone and battery pack). With supermarkets (also a good access to toilets when travelling. I use the disabled toilets to wash and clean up..... naughty, well no. I am disabled, but I try to stay on top of the health issues. Diabetes with complications) and shops adjacent.

Only been here once about 12-13 years ago with my x-gf family. The holiday started out crap only because of my x haha but it got better. Her dad took me fishing on the beach with ocean rods or something of the like. Squid bait we picked up from a tackle shop. I was crap but I loved it, the sand was warm, few beers away from the dog walkers ect and yes literally just a few. Never went on any rides but I did win my first bet on one of those roulette wheel machines. Won £100 and the best part about the whole thing, I didn't have to put up with a kaniving cheating cow! Great video! Makes me wanna go back and fish again!

I remember going here with a friend to visit his mum. Was a god awful place. All I remember is grey skies, bingo halls and a dire seaside

We had part of our honeymoon in Skegness last year... I'd never been before, but the wife knew it well and wanted to show me the place... It was Lovely! Really clean, lovely people, and really nice place to go, with stuff to do too. I'm surprised this is voted the worst seaside town!
    Well worth a visit 😁😎

I saw comments yesterday on a Skegness FB page from Skeggy residents dismissing their town, saying they'd choose Ibiza every time, so a lot of people aren't interested in holidaying, anywhere, in the UK, thinking they can afford better. And middle-classes have no family tradition of going to places like Skegness. That's why the small village of Bamborough was voted in first place.

We had a fabulous family holiday at Skegness over Easter. We stayed at the brilliant Parkdean Southview resort which has had loads spent on it. We loved the town and resort and our kids (4 & 8) want to go back.

All my childhood holidays were in Skegness, Chapel St Leonard’s and Mablethorpe and I wouldn’t change any of them. Such happy memories. Skegness has gone a bit down hill, but it’s still a fun place.

We don’t have the same traditions at the sea side in America. Popping over to the UK for two weeks next month. I’m really so tempted to visit a seaside town while there. I find this all so charming

Do it. :) I don't know that part of the country, but I highly recommend Torbay, in Devon.

      @RichWoods23 Год назад +1

Don't listen to Lawrence, Johnny! Torbay has pretensions, while Skeggie will just show you what it is, warts and all. Also the Fens make for beautiful countryside, whether you drive or go by train: if you're used to some place like Kansas you'll feel right at home, and then all of a sudden the sea will jump up out of nowhere.

100% doesn’t deserve the title. Yes it’s a bit run down in places but it’s a great place to go.
I love going to Skegness one of my favourite seaside towns to visit. So much to do. Do wish they’d do something with those beach huts maybe renovate them and rent them out during the day like they do in Mablethrope.

Those chalets looked good til a few years ago. A friend of mine used one every year when the bowls tournament was on. It changed hands & everything was ok Think it was a couple of years later the owner who was there every day announced that they were closing at the end of the season. Dont think they were sold on so unfortunately left to rot. Were very nice inside as well Thanks for video

Regarding Skeggy. I’ve only ever been there once and found it to be a lovely place. Not perfect but then which seaside resorts are these days. It’s better than Weston Super Mud at least.
