As a former history major and current university history instructor, I can confirm that Cleopatra was indeed the final Pharaoh. However, it's important to acknowledge that she didn't attain this position on her own accord and relied heavily on the support and influence of Roman men during her reign. Therefore, describing her as a strong and powerful leader is inaccurate and unfair to Cleopatra's historical context. In truth, she was a recipient of power, rather than an avid seeker.
During the period mentioned, Egypt was under Roman control, and Marc Antony was the ruler of Egypt following the division of power among the members of the second triumvirate. Scholars of history will note that Egypt was a subject state of Rome, and had to comply with Roman demands. The recently released Netflix documentary is extremely inaccurate, which is disappointing considering it is labeled as a documentary and not a docudrama, as evidenced by the cover photo. It is not a docudrama and Netflix only began calling it that after being confronted with the many historical inaccuracies in their production.
Hell even The dance scene featuring Cleopatra and her sister, which was quite cringeworthy, was entirely fabricated and has no historical foundation. For those with a genuine interest in Ancient Egypt - a truly intriguing and almost magical era - I highly recommend conducting your own research and exploring Egypt's rich history; it is undoubtedly worth your time.
Cleopatra belonged to a family dynasty of formidable rulers, but she was the last Pharaoh for a particular reason - herself. It is distressing that a documentary portraying such a prominent historical figure is so flawed and inaccurate. Even more concerning is that some individuals are attempting to defend the inaccuracies while dismissing the disappointment of viewers as a result of racism.
The documentary appears to have been created by individuals whose personal or political biases are of greater importance to them than the factual representation of historical events. This is a perilous situation as it may lead to the dissemination of false information, which certain viewers might accept as truth.

i 100% agree - i havent looked into Egyptian history in a long time and I found myself confused.
People have to know that not many of us will go digging to see if the drama is historically accurate and when it presents itself as if it is, it kind of becomes fact in a lot of people's minds. That's the biggest problem. I think they tried to simply her story to portray the narrative they wanted to and left it at that. Tey could have just made a fictional story - would have been less controversial but I guess that't not what brings in the views

@@safasliceoflife I agree. Far too many people (I’m America at least) are of the mindset that the appearance of pushing diversity into Movies, tv shows, and now documentaries. Is far more important than anything else. Including the truth.

well it was a drama and nothing more. If someone really believes she was challenging and mocking Octavian once he reached her... Just a slay-kwueen keloniqa fantasy.

The people who lived in those ages, their perceptions were so alien to how we think now we cant comprehend it. They may as well have been a separate species. Its amusing listening to people discuss gender and race by modern standards, they did not interpret it the way we do now. And men were more than likely not intimidated by the few female rulers, but more than likely insulted

Well other than her not being black this portrayal of her being a great warrior is completely false , there is nothing in the historical record denoting that. The old Elizabeth Taylor portrayal is far more accurate. Which was a portrayal of feminine sophistication. That was her real power.

Its sad that we are fighting over a Queen who ruled Africa, since this history has always been told through the European lens. This docudrama is a welcome attempt to tell our children this story of an Africa Queen. How that, people with darker skin (non European) were once some of the most powerful people in the world and how it was from Africa that Europe got its power and wealth.

@randomgurl711yeah I was just about to say that. The whole docudrama got some many facts wrong and didn't even have proper historians in it. They demonized men and I just can't stand it. They also got so many fact just wrong and isn't good at all for a proper education about cleopatra

@@jojomohamed6977 well biologically, if you consider the physical structure, it was white, not just for her skin color - as daughter of a Macedon parent -as many Egyptians. the skin color is less important, it's not that single feature that distinguishes races or ethnicities. Yes races do exist for all animals, humans as well, thou for all animals is a way to regroup ethnical groups with similar characteristics.
