These guys are serious heavy hitters in the political writing sphere. Jon is really the Godfather he can pick and choose pretty much anyone to be on with him with his limited schedule and he's going not for the celebrity haircuts like Maher, but for the people with the most articulate and relevant POV. Bravo, TDS!

The U.S. MUST start putting conditions on any "aid" sent to any country.
1st, there needs to be an accurate accounting for how our "aid" is used.
2nd (probably should be 1st), absolutely none of said "aid" can be used for war crimes.
How is that too much to ask?!
If Israel or Ukraine, or any other state the U.S. help shore up can't abide by those very simple requests then they don't deserve my tax dollars or any one elses!

While we applaud for Jon doing this interview and segment, let's also thank Comedy Central to let Jon use this platform to do what is right for the world.
He basically said Israel should not do a ceasefire until Hamas frees the hostages, which means they can keep murdering children and continuing their siege and genocide. Jon could have made a difference in the debate towards a ceasefire, instead we get this useless cutesy BS and he cries a bunch for his dog but only jokes about the conflict that’s brought 14k dead children.

It is so weird that I click a comedy link to find the first real peace summit between Muslims and Jews ever. Murtaza's logic is unbelievably reasonable; Yair provides a very logical counterweight as well. I was in Damascus watching an israeli airstrike unfold before my eyes as the sky turned sunset-orange at 9 pm on a winter night. I was shaking and in tears a few hours ago, and now after this conversation I'm like yeah, the METO thing could actually work. The "civility discussion" is so tired. We shouldn't pat ourselves on our backs for just being able to calmly discuss things. 29,000 Palestinians have died, including thousands of children. There is something so comedic about the fact that the best news you will get about the nuance of Israel Palestine foreign policy is from a tv channel called Comedy Central.
Its really sad and shocking that Comedy Central probably has a much more nuanced and actual debate about the conflict than the news network.
And has been the case for decades, actually - Mr "@@AnthonyJMurph".
Previously.. It used to be even worse.
The connundrum in being human in a faulty world, let's be elated to have Jon return
I am not sure what is the nuance, One group militarily took over another country via UN and western forces and wants to stay and dominate. It is better to See things for what they are rather than a romanticized version. There is no nuance.
@@jo7246 The fact that you are unable to even have a conversation speaks volumes about the current problems we are having with politics in todays society. Do I agree that Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinians, without a doubt. Their constant expansions from the purloining of Palestinians. I could go on and on, Netanyahu is evil. BUT, when Hamas is calling for an Intifada by which they mean to eject EVERYONE not of Palestinian descent, the conversation does indeed become nuanced. A two state solution (one in which Palestinians have ACTUAL autonomy, self governance, and a sense of safety) is the ONLY reasonable solution, and achieving that requires heaps and bounds of nuance. To speak in such absolutes is a disservice to everyone, including yourself.
I do appreciate the clarity in these segments. To be honest, most discussions on the clash make me tune out. It's overload. This felt productive.

One of the best discussions I’ve seen on any topic, regardless of the setting. Jon’s moderation was exemplary here. My two favorite quotes have to be these:
“We refuse to allow ourselves or our communities to be held hostage to a ruinous conflict thousands of miles away that we may never be able to resolve or fix. But we can have an impact about how we treat each other here.” - Yair Rosenberg
“I could accept any Palestinian’s view or any Israeli’s view when they’re so intimately involved in it. But I could never respect a bloodthirsty American.” - Murtaza Hussain

Herzl (father of modern Zionism) had confided to his diary (1899) the idea of spiriting the Arab population away to make way for Jews:
"We must expropriate gently the private property on the estates assigned to us. We shall try to spirit the penniless population across the border by procuring employment for it in the transit countries, while denying it employment in our own country The property owners will come over to our side. Both the process of expropriation and the removal of the poor must be carried out discreetly and circumspectly."
-AIPAC controls the American congress to uphold Herzl's plan, so America is bought and sold.
-Corrupt Arab autocrats want Israeli technology to control their populations.
-Israel continues with illegal "settlements" (i.e. theft, ethnic cleansing, and apartheid).
-Palestinians and their non-state allies will continue to resist violently- inevitably.
-Gradual genocide will continue.
- Israeli, and Western countries will make big bucks from the arms and cyber-security industries.
-At some point there will be a terrible reckoning.
@@cv-cq9ryYeah, that was weird. It was there in the main segment too. The dumb thing is that previous US presidents did stop Israel with a phone call.
Jon is likely acting by reflex on the idea Israel is under existential threat. The state of Israel has no existential threats. Its social economic system does have an existential threat from itself. Economic and security exploitation is critical to Israel that without, can't maintain their standard level of living, especially if you are an illegal settler who under any functional peace plan must leave.
Finally, an interview with arab and israeli with no yelling, no interruption, no name calling, no emotional manipulation . The reason that American foreign policy is often so cavalier is because the U.S. has almost never had to fight a war at home. I think that’s why Pearl Harbor and 9/11 enraged America so much, we aren’t used to attacks on the homeland. The U.S. is an ocean away from most of its adversaries, so an attack on American soil seems inconceivable.
American's, relative to others, have short memories/attention spans and generally don't hold grudges. Germany, Japan, Vietnam, so on and so forth, Americans move on. Note War of 1812 resulted in an invasion by England and the burning of DC. Yet here we are, buds with England. Also, Civil War, though much of that continues to impact the U.S.
Ideologically for citizens , yes. But it's naive to solely think that way. money is the other. They can afford to be reckless because reckless behavior and creates money for American capitalists and chaos elsewhere.
I don't think having a war here would change things. If anything it would help them be more reckless. 9/11 fueled cavalier foreign policy as opposed to reigning it in.

This is how we should have this conversation , we treat each other with respect deserved and understand the passion behind each other’s anger and frustrations
Absolutely. Who would've thought not yelling over each other & actually having meaningful, intelligent conversation instead of slewing talking points would actually go over well
I would add that the reason the UN can’t pass a ceasefire resolution is that our country keeps vetoing it, regardless of the majority vote.
It’s not our right to tell other countries how to defend themselves based on social pressures…. That’s social imperialism.
The UN draft proposal did not include protection or release of hostages, that’s why it was vetoed. Biden’s working on recognizing a Palestinian state to lead to a true cease-fire with real diplomatic pressure.
UN proposal did not protect hostages. Biden government is working on a better plan that includes recognizing a Palestinian state.
USA should stay out of it.
Bwahahahaha!
What, "@@Dr-386"?
The way you're defining “social Imperialism”..
Won't that translate to: Herzlstan always wants social Imperialist protection from the GS?
What Murtaza Hussain has to say about how to overcome being visceral are like golden rules which can't be repeated and followed enough. Well said!
It is nice to see people have a conversation calmly
the Marshall Plan reference is so true. I was just thinking abt how they tried that strategy everywhere
It brought me to tears when he mentioned the Golden Rule, thank you all so much!
It's a Hadith from Prophet Mohammed peace be upon him
@@TheHH77it’s a quote 600 years earlier from the Gospel of Matthew, to be super clear. Muhammad is simply quoting a man he believed was a prophet.
@@boomgospelit goes back even further to Leviticus, and then rephrased by Hillel the Elder, who predated Jesus by a century
the way you throw in the humour and keep it going. amazing .
I truly believe that most of us are reflected in this interview. We have differences and will not always agree with each other when pursuing truth and problem solving. Finding common ground, and I'm sure you'll find there is a lot, keeping open dialogue, having integrity, and at the end of the day, being kind.
This show was absolutely brilliant. The best peace plan I have ever heard. Nations, please do this. Help everyone with this plan.
A plan that is DOA and doesn't actually solve anything.
I'm an Aid Worker supporting affected families in Ukraine for the past two years. It's heartbreaking work, but as an American, with every person I meet, I offer hope we will not leave them in their hour of need. People still believe in what America stands for. Even if we don't believe it ourselves. ❤
Thank you so much for this.
@@monicabeaston4996 Thank you for saying that. 🙏
The US is a powerful country whose ideals (at least on paper) are still looked up to throughout the world. So, when you live in a place where those ideals are severely under attack, it is natural for people to hope the country with those ideals will help.
Trust me, that trust is at an all-time low. And I come from a country that was once helped by the US. Even my people are losing faith in this ideal because of what's happening to Palestine. USA lost credibility big time with their unconditional support for genocide.@@MrBrock314
I almost teared up on your comment! I'm an immigrant who came here 20 years ago now because I, like many other immigrants, had an American dream. Many people around the world look up to America as an ideal. Sadly in the last 20 years, I feel things have gotten so bad in a way that I've never seen it before. The division and chaos in our society is heartbreaking and disheartening. But you're right. We gotta cling on to that belief that made this country what it is and made us who we are. We can't give up! Gotta keep believing and keeping on.
Very refreshing conversation.
These are the conversations we SHOULD be having, ALL the time! I love that they’re friends and have been able to maintain that through all of this. Lead by example gentleman 👏🏻 🙌🏻💜💜💜💜
When Murtaza says keeping the golden rule in the forefront is key to these conflicts! ❤
And what would that be
@@benkei7530 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Rule
@benkei7530 Do unto others as you would have done to you. Ancient wisdom from before these cultures even existed.
@@patreekotime4578 That quote is generally from the Bible and it definitely doesn't predate Jews or Palestinians as they start about 20 books earlier in the Bible and chronologically about 1500 years earlier.
@@MrBrock314 the bible contains many borrowed stories, myths, and moral teachings and the golden rule is no exception. There are records of functionally similar sayings in Egypt and Sumer that pre-date David's rule of ancient Israel (potentially by a thousand years or more). The saying is so simple and fundamental, it probably vastly precedes even that (ancient China had its own version, as did the Tamils in India, and many other ancient civilizations). It's nothing to be ashamed of but it is indeed wisdom that probably pre-dates the Semitic peoples.
Emotionally intelligent men communicating: so refreshing and hopeful
What a breath of fresh air. These guys need to be heard everywhere
Thank you both of you. Peace and leadership moving forward needs to come from persons like you! 🙏🏻 🤍
Yes!!!! Two diasporas don't make a right! This is why we needed you back, Jon! This is it!
It's so nice that they're both real life friends.
Fascinating conversation! Enlightening, simultaneously discouraging and uplifting, thank~you all.
Christopher Hitchens commented that once established the Israeli state had the unfortunate side effect of irrevocable commitment to that state.
What a great conversation, this show has gotten so much better now that John has returned.
We missed you Jon.
Man, this is so much better than any other news source anywhere!
oh look, a nuanced, intelligent take on the situation. what a sadly refreshing change of pace.
Jon Stewart taught me what journalism is. As i was a journalism student.
Unbelievable how a comedy show does better journalism than the overwhelming majority of TV news journalists.
one of the best interviews on the whole topic this entire war
Someone tags Perce Morgane and shows him how a genuine conversation for peace looks like, not a the fights for views and trends that he’s being doing for the last months !!!
Thank you Jon for coming back 🙏🏻
I love that comment from the relative seeing the New York subway and saying now they understand.
If Jon Stewart came out of retirement to fight for peace in the Middle East and it somehow happens as a result, he be one of the greatest Americans to have ever lived.
More informative than any mainstream news
Except 2 min in is a blatant lie about Israel not being engaged in prior talks or propositions about a two state solution… so yes very informative🤣🤣
@@Thomas-mz9zq of course they engaged, what else would you call assassination of their own PM Rabin for negotiating a 2 state solution except for "engagement" 😂 rip bozo 🤡
You need to also watch independent media: Kim Iversen, Jimmy Dore, The Hill, Rising, The Duran and a lot more.
@@cv-cq9ryJimmy Dore and the Rising are contrarian grifters
6:33 - "It seems like nobody is actually being honest or genuine in the region about their aims." - Jon
This is 100% the problem.
Nah. The problem is 100% that Israel is occupying Palestine, is ethnically cleansing its population, and has full support of the western world.
In the midst of all these violence, this is so calming. This almost brought back my believe in humanity.
thank you comedy central and Jon Stewart for making modern political discourse appetizing again.
We really needed Jon Stewart back thank you
I think it’s insane that Israel’s illegal occupations are not mentioned at all. I think that is the main thing that needs to be rectified before peace can be had
Israel pulled out of Gaza in 2005
@@dagda16 Ever heard of the westbank?
@@theflyingspaghettimonster6462
That may be true but I think their point was Israel has a very reasonable perspective on not pulling out. They did it in Gaza in 05 and look what happened. Whose to say that won't happen if they pull out in the West bank?
Your own insane lack of geo-political and historical knowledge is what is astounding
@@yehoshuabedziner2314
Sure, if Israel were to pull out from the west bank now, Hamas would probably take over. But it should hardly be surprising that the most radical faction gets support from a population living under an apartheid regime there. They had decades to build relations with those people, and show them that a peaceful coexistence is possible and in their best interest. Instead their actions (building settlements, ignoring violance from the settlers) entrench this believe that Israelis and Palestinians have to be enemies.
I don't argue that Israel should just pull out today, but they should start applying the same law on all the people living there. Not military law for one part and civil law for the other. Set up a citizens assembly to discuss the futue of the land, and broadcast it. It worked in Northern Ireland, so why not here?
Dear Jon, please continue with conversations like this. You sometimes become a talking head yourself and create more problems than solve them. This is you trying to actually solve something. You are blessed to have the platform to do so.
This was a refreshing and robust conversation. Thanks Jon !
Real discourse. How beautiful and refreshing.
That's how it is done! Thank you Jon for your fairness! You are the best!
Thank you for finding these two guys!!
conversations like this one are definitely on the correct path to achieve peace and prosperity to everyone
