Bassem Youssef is a breath of fresh air. Every interview he does contains one or two little golden nuggets of pure wisdom. I hope he has enough acid reflux medicine 💊. I studied Arabic at Alexandria University in the early 80s and it enriched me in several ways (still an atheist). The Egyptians are terribly downtrodden but keep smiling 😊👍.

Yeah I’ve never understood the position that you don’t have a right to complain if you don’t vote. I mean the whole concept of rights is that you have these choices, and you could say, even the duty to express your beliefs. And if that belief is that the system is corrupt, and there is no virtue or value in voting, then that is a right you have to exercise. I’ve voted once over two decades ago when I turned 18. That was to put Tony Blair’s government into power. But then to see what he did in Iraq and then with banking, it was very clear that a Labour government is pretty similar to a conservative one. I’ve not voted since, but still use my rights as a citizen to complain.
If Americans don't vote and Trump gets in then they'll have given up any chance to vote in the future as well. It's not as if Trump hasn't spelt out what he intends to do. Sure there are issues with Biden, but he's not going to be a dictator and stay in office for ever. Whatever you don't like about Biden, Trump would be worse on every issue. Women in Egypt, Bassam's country, are oppressed. 86% of them of the girls undergo female genital mutilation, and oppressing doesn't end here. Bassam has never spoken a word about it. Interview would have been greater if he added some words about Egypt's part in the blockade. But sadly, he's fake.
If the Gaza war stops today, you know what's the worst thing that can happen. People will congratulate and praise Isreal for stopping the war now instead of holding it accountable for the last six months. that's the scary part.

I especially loved when he said, you may feel like you have power to vote for people you want in a democracy, but it’s all an illusion. Our choices don’t matter really. And while we squabbling about cultural terms and be ummming and ahhhing about what is right and wrong. Real people die at that expense.
What can we do? We protest, we shout our displeasure, we try tell the people in power, we are not happy! Yet non of them care. International doesn’t exist. Only who are our political friends and enemies. Who bribes our politicians the most. Democracy vs communism vs fascism.
Nothing we do really matters. At least not in a political sense. It makes me sad 😒

Yeah I’ve never understood the position that you don’t have a right to complain if you don’t vote. I mean the whole concept of rights is that you have these choices, and you could say, even the duty to express your beliefs. And if that belief is that the system is corrupt, and there is no virtue or value in voting, then that is a right you have to exercise. I’ve voted once over two decades ago when I turned 18. That was to put Tony Blair’s government into power. But then to see what he did in Iraq and then with banking, it was very clear that a Labour government is pretty similar to a conservative one. I’ve not voted since, but still use my rights as a citizen to complain.
If Americans don't vote and Trump gets in then they'll have given up any chance to vote in the future as well. It's not as if Trump hasn't spelt out what he intends to do. Sure there are issues with Biden, but he's not going to be a dictator and stay in office for ever. Whatever you don't like about Biden, Trump would be worse on every issue. This year's vote is of critical importance to every American. The Republicans demonstrate perpetually that they don't want people to vote. Use your voice and stand up for the future of the country.

What if people don't congratulate them, a two-state solution is reached, yet the war rages on, considering the Palestinian position is that the whole of Israel is a settlement, but now they have a lot more ability to bring in weapons with greater strength and it breaks out into a much larger conflict? Would that not be worse than what you proposed? What if they are congratulated after Hamas is routed, Palestinians reject to continue these types actions, they elect a peaceful group that uses all the aid given to it to build infrastructure for Gazans and the next 20 years are peaceful as opposed to the last 20 years?
