The NFL wasn't paying players fairly back then so the USFL could sign some very talented players like Steve Young and Jim Kelly. They also drafted juniors out of college. The league had talent and quality football.
As a 17 year old, I had season tickets for the Tampa Bay Bandits (USFL). This is the mid 80's. The Buccaneers are TERRIBLE and not worth paying for. The Bandits were AMAZING. Successful. Fun to watch. Definitely worth the money.

I will always cherish my memories of the U and how great they were in the 80’s and 90’s. team. One glaring hiccup - beaten like red-haired step-children by Jerry Sandusky’s defense at the 1987 Fiesta Bowl. That was a a fantastic game. Vinnie Testaverde never the same after getting sacked and intercepted multiple times by the Nittany Lions.
He had a super long NFL career and played for many awful franchises and kept coming back year after year. He was much better than the media ever gave him credit for, despite playing behind awful offensive lines in Tampa and Cleveland. The entire Hurricane team and coaching staff against Penn State screwed that game up.
