    This video makes me emotional. I lost my father recently who was a U of M medical graduate. He was a Pediatrician. A damn good one too. My dad and I watched most of these moments from home in Athens, GA. Where he moved after getting his degree. I was born in ‘90 so he would tell me of these incredible 80’s Miami teams like they were a mythical beast or storm. Then 2000 came I was 10 and we got f*cked over by the BCS. Then glory! The best team OF ALL TIME. Then the robbery in the desert 🌵. So naturally dad had to get back to the OB. My first ever live game was “The Comeback” by Sean Taylor, Devin Hester, and Brock Berlin among others. It was classic. But on saturdays in Athens Georgia EVERYBODY is bulldawgs fan unless you’re visiting, we were the only family with hurricane flags all over our vehicles. My dad used to say being a Miami fan in football is harder than any other team: “Because we have to beat the other teams first, then we have to beat the officials, then we have to beat the Media, and if you’re playing Notre Dame we have to win by 4 scores because they paid everybody else.”- Miss you Dad.

      I’ll never forget being on vacation in Charlotte NC visiting my fathers mother and she was flipping through channels because dad and his dad were watching my dads Alma Mater hurricanes in the other room and she landed on the game and saw the score and the clock and said “oh no they’re kicking to win.” And I was 12 years old and I go “or kicking to lose” and he kicked and missed it and we cheered so loud!!!

    I grew up in Kendall. I went to a very strict private Christian school "FCS Patriots"...strict dress codes, uniforms, hair off ears and collar, belts at all times and shirt tucked in, but every Thursday or Friday we were allowed to adorn ourselves in "Canes gear" and even the staff dressed for it. It's a Canes thing!

      I got to tell you guys something you may not know or simply chose to not acknowledge it. Back in the mid to late 1970's both Miami and FSU were contemplating DROPPING football because of their poor performance. In fact, in 1975, one team even dropped Miami from their schedule and the U never rescheduled anyone for the opening. The exact same thing was true of FSU. I bet many of you young guys do not even remember a time when the U played "Friday Night Live" games to try and draw bigger crowds as opposed to a Saturday afternoon. I vividly remember sitting in the OB and they Canes were playing before crowds of 10-15,000 on average. You have no idea how sad and pathetic they were , as well as FSU not too far back.

      Kevin, I went to a ton of Canes games and a I still follow them. However, although their 5 NC's are outrageous, it can't eclipse FSU from being in 35 straight bowl games along with a string of 14 straight seasons with at least 10 wins. From 1987-2000, FSU had a record of 152-19-1 for a .887 winning percentage, against some of the toughest opponents. That is impressive. The U had 58 straight home wins which is outrageous, and FSU was not too far behind with 50 straight games at home without a loss, when they were 49-0-1.

      That’s debatable with the current Alabama run. 5 titles already could easily been 6, “1 second pick play”. Since 2008, with exception of 2010, they have been in or in contention for a national title every year. True Alabama got destroyed last year in the title game, but Miami also got pounded in the 92 title game by Alabama. I won’t mention the 12 before Saban got there. I’m sure if I looked, I could break out stats comparable or better than the stats listed on the video. It’s all open to interpretation. As far as national titles and years taken to win, Miami takes second. Oh and Alabama’s run is still going strong.

    • @CD-pk7xr
      @CD-pk7xr 5 лет назад

      flash 22 Alabama has played in 7. Would’ve played Florida state in 2013 if not for a fluky kick six field goal return against Auburn, Lost in a semi final to OSU in 14. Alabama could just as easily have won 6 titles and played for 9 since 2008. Instead they’ve won 5 played in 7.

    Man, I grew up in Miami spoiled with Legends like Ed Reed, Shockey, Clinton Portis, Vilma, Sean Taylor, Andre Johnson, Edgerrin James, etc. I had to stop because I could go on and on about the legends that played during the 2nd golden age of the U. Many people are wondering why Miami has fallen off, the answer is quite simple. There has been sort of a brain drain or talent drain in Miami. There was a time when all the top tier talent from the Miami-Dade/Broward/Palm Beach county areas all went to Miami. Now these players are lured to play for other teams that promise them a chance to play right out of the gate. Think about how many great players that played for Miami that had to wait their turn, e.g., Michael Irvin, Willis McGahee, etc. These players don't want to wait their turn and they're not staying home.

    What made Miami great, schematically, they were one of few teams EVER, that could dominate games running, passing, and on special teams. Defensively, they were built to stop ANYONE in the country from Nebraska's option, to FSU's spread fast break offense. Culturally they changed a generation. The "swag" that people refered to was organic not manufactured, its was South Florida's football culture!!!! Lastly, what I endear probably the most is that, they knew talent!!!! On a regular basis, they would overlook a "5 star" player and go to a "3 star" player because they sincerely evaluated him on whether he could fit into thier system, i.e. Santana Moss. Arguably the best football program EVER!!!! THANK YOU.

    The Hurricanes really won 20 Championships if you count all the years they were cheated by the refs. Notre Dame beat Alabama, Penn St and Nebraska should have been both champions 1 year. Oregon should have 2 more championships, and Auburn should have 1 more. Alot of cheating in sports, kind of like relationships in life.

    I was a student at FSU in 2000, and worked at the Gateway Country computer store. I had to work the Saturday of the UM-FSU game in Miami. I thought it was over after one employee came in and told me the score. So I go on my lunch break, turn the radio on, and the Canes are marching down the field. I couldn't believe the score. Then I hear Shockey catch the TD, and I RAN into the store, yelling "Canes won!, Canes won!". No one believed me. They had to go to the back and look online. They were in shock. I went to FSU, but I never stopped being a Canes fan. I'd wear Canes shirts, hats to class! LOL. No one ever tried me. Just got some looks. I sat in the FSU student section for the 2001 BEAT-DOWN we gave the Noles, wearing my Canes gear, with two other dudes from Miami sitting next to me. They both had played football at Northwestern and were NOT the type of dudes you messed with, so we just celebrated and celebrated surrounded by Noles that entire afternoon. One of my favorite football memories ever. Go Canes! Oh, and thank you FSU for my degree.
