Right? I keep thinking that the cinematic are somewhere irl, and the only thing that "spoils" it is that random vanilla donut van or other vanilla asset that you can't simply BOB off.
Convert the old road to a bike network system. Connect the separate population centers with a nature reserve. Add some nodes of commercial. Create some small villages along the route.
This looks great! I especially love the Kennebec Lift Bridge. 😉A few ideas. First of all, I think you should swap the rail bridges over the road before you get to the water on the way to Port Douglas. The truss bridge over the roads on the original line look older and the steel girders over the road on the line you just put in look more modern. That said, this is a pretty minor and inconsequential change (although probably also easy!). Secondly, in considering the approaches to the old bridge I think one needs to consider the history. Before this bridge there was probably access to Port Douglas only by ferry (or perhaps also by some floating bridges that washed out in storms). The bridge was built by necessity of a rail line to the new port they were building on the island that was the only place in Coniferia that would have good access to the "newer" deep draft ships of the time. So the whole rail line was put in from scratch and is pretty straight and level. Where did they put in the new bridge? Just downstream from (closer to Port Douglas than) the old ferry line which was put in just "upstream" where there was the shallowest and narrowest area of water to cross. So the "old highway" should actually be much older, curvier and follow contours down to the water upstream from the bridge to where the old ferry was. And you can have a hard turn from the bridge itself to a ramp down to the old ferry where it meets up with the old highway. (In other words, the highway over the bridge actually has sharp turns at the end because the old bridge itself was built afterwards and had immediate connections to the "real" older highway -- and those road connections were secondary to the real purpose of the bridge which was to put a rail line in. The road on the bridge was making smart use of the investment that was actually needed for rail.) You already have a road on the Port Douglas side hugging the coast and that was where the old ferry came in and, until the new motorway and bridge was built many decades later, the original road route into Port Douglas. Anyway, that's my backstory for that. Later as passenger rail was growing in importance to the large city of Pine Harbor the new rail line project was built specifically for passenger rail to accomplish two things: allow more frequency of high speed rail not encumbered by slower freight trains plus remove at-grade crossings from the old rail line that was causing increasing havoc with traffic as trains came in more often. No need to do this for freight rail because it's not traveling through Port Douglas traffic anyway.
Lovely post-NYE vid. You should definitely add some oil drilling to the Port Douglas island itself. It never made much sense to me why you would chose to make such a big town and all this heavy industry on an island instead of the mainland. So if there’s oil drilling somewhere on the opposite side of the island, it would make more sense that the island is populated and has such great infrastructure connections to the mainland.
Happy new year! I think you came up with a very good fix for the cargo rail, mate. However i‘m not sure if the cargo station sitting next to the Oil industry main building is still connected/useable. It looks as if a train would have to „change direction“ at the second cargo station, if that‘s even possible. I‘m excited to see you take your attention for detail and apply it to the Oil Area. Nice start.
Wow, that's one way of implementing my suggestion. I was tinking of an even shorter and older bridge. But you definitely made this bridge that looks like it's from the early 20th century work. An oil industry is an interesting choice and could actually be a point of contention between Port Douglas and Pine Harbour. The location of the local oil company headquarters alone could be an issue. Then there's the perception of one reaping the benefits of the economic activity that the company brings, while the other suffers more of the environmental consequences. I smell some community involvement in the near future. Also, it's an easily overlooked thing, but you seem to change the introduction of your video's a lot. I think that this is a good thing.
I really love the narration and voice over,it makes your content very unique. There are very few hyper realistic builders who do that, it mostly vanilla builders who have voice overs and narration as it adds more context.
I'm likely thinking about this all wrong due to sleep deprivation, but I don't believe your cargo train terminal is properly connected to both send and receive deliveries; at least, I know in my experience, there are always issues using single lane train traffic.
Hi, first of all I love your videos and great job! It’s great to have you back on RUclips. I have two smaller additions to the oil harbour ( 27:14 ) which could make it look even more realistic: Usually, there is only one straight pier (called jetty) on which the pipelines reach from the storage area into the water. From there the ship attaches its own manifold system onto the harbour infrastructure (there is no need to have the smaller network lead off to the right. The ship has its own pipeline on deck which distributes the oil into the cargo holds.). Furthermore, would it make sense for a larger oil harbour to have additional smaller jetties to allow refined products (like diesel, gas or chemicals) be transported via ship. A great reference port is the major oil harbour in Alaska (Port Valdez) or the city of Freeport in Texas. Maybe it is worth checking it out to get a better idea. Love the series!
The redesign looks great and I like the backstory to it. 👍 Wish you a healthy and prosperous New Year. Offtopic You've such a comforting voice (deep, but also very clear) with this cozy sounding lil "accent" and combined with these goofy jokes... makes me feel like a mate is here, sitting next to me, showing me his new builds.
Had made a similar suggestion to your fix and it turned out swimmingly. Just one more thing, remember to double track the freight line. Until then, thank you for a great episode and a Happy New Year to you, Mayor Infra.
16:08 Me “Hey look dad over there, what is with the flying train coming down the track?!” Dad “oh son that’s what we call a flying train” Me “ Ohhh,ok… I hate those, I want it to be a normal train!” Dad “ Don’t we all…”
i just discovered this channel - and I am amazed! I love the style of the videos and the way you build! There are only some additions I wanna mention regarding the railway infrastructure. First of all, the new harbour connection is a big step towards realism and I think it fits the setting pretty well! But the connection to the existing network (built in 11:58) is kinda odd, because you use a very straight route and neglect the terrain, which is the go to method for newly built high speed rail, but as that is the old line, I would love to see a little bit more curves. Also, when looking at the real word, bridge and ram structures out of concrete or steel are avoided as they're very expensive, instead a normal railway enbankment is preferred. (examples of overused bridge structures: 13:27, I would end the bridge segment after the road is crossed, or 14:33, where you have bridge stucturess just obove the ground which seems unrealistic to me) I hope this is some helpful feedback haha, love your videos
Great job as always. It would be cool if the old bridge had a different alignment compared to the new bridges - more perpendicular to the strait so that the actual bridge section is shorter than the angled new bridges. In the past a shorter bridge would have been more technically feasible. This would also give an additional benefit to the new bridge - a faster/more direct alignment that was considered necessary to shorten passenger rail trip times
I think PetroCon would be a nice name. You see that sort of name that incorporates the word “petro” and the country’s name in countries all over the world, like with Pemex (Mexico) or Petrobras (Brazil). Happy new year!
I really like your dry humor and I got that "Brother Louie" vibe :D expected Harry Potter but Modern Talking always works. A recommendation regarding the chunky pillars: I would add some grafitti on land. Old industry and grafitti often go hand in hand. Keep up the good work.
Great detailing! The rail network is much more realistic now. Are you going to place functional cargo harbours to received the standart game ships? Have a great year Coniferia :)
You literally started my year)) as always, it looks so great)) In the case, there is a huge oil industry, I think they would definitely try to break the law of the height restrictions and build there own, freaky tower as most of them do)) PetroCon as a reference from PetroCanada could be used as a name) Take care!
With the 4 tracks going into Port Douglas Station, perhaps 2 tracks could be used for if the population expands to other parts of the island. That way, trains can be used for express services into the CBD of Port Douglas while trams can continue to be used to transport passengers over shorter distances.
U doing a nice Job with ur series! Only note i would point out, that the cargo track is too long for just being single track. U could do double tracks apart from the bridge or create pass sections. Once the hole Harbour Section is filled, u may otherwise have Cargo trains blocking each others way.
Hey man, happy new year!! Watching here, not finished yet. Just noticed that the white arch highway bridge has some pillars underneath the main span. Guess those cables from above would do the job, bro. Nice series, keep it up the good work, it’s turning up to be one of the best CS cities in YT. You’re an awesome builder, for real
This looks really good. My only critique would be oil tanker trailers (if they have them) instead of containers . They’ll be plenty of container use with cargo docks.
Impressive work infra! I don't have any names but some lore 🙂. Coniferia Petrol is a subsidiary of a much bigger logistics company called Coniferia Logistics. In 1928, Andrew Martin, the owner of Coniferia Logistics at that time, decided to open Coniferia Petrol to boost profit. He chose Port Douglas because there were more people living there than Pine Harbor. He also opened an oil production area in the outskirts of Coniferia. In 1940, the business wasn't doing well and the business almost closed. But funding from other companies saved it. In 1972, an oil boom happened and profit skyrocketed. Of course the housing crisis happened and there were no places for the workers to live so Bob Davis, the owner decided to build housing to the workers. All the homes were the same. And that's how Coniferia Petrol is today. I hope you have a good New Year as well and peace out.
Cool build, I would probably change the part of the old road that isn't on the bridge. It just doesn't look like a road that once connected capital to the region. I would imagine something more American-highwayish. The old bridge itself would be sort of a bottleneck.
I think with bridges for both cars and trains they try to keep the bridge part as short as possible and have an earth mound support it wherever possible. Building on earth is much cheaper than building an elevated track or rail. This is why the bridges in Port Douglas always felt a bit too large, in my opinion. Otherwise a great build!
hey can you maybe make a video how we as viewers can make the game look the same? I tried to do it with the description but it didn't work... only its settings and which mods you are currently using for the looks. the harbour looks great already! and its only the beginning of it.😀

Hi, new subscriber, been watching some older ones to catch up, I think you should move grain depot away from oil harbour in this one, harbour looking good with new rail bridge.
Love the series. About the bridges, I think it would be more realistic if you lined up the pillars of all three bridges to give two clear shipping lanes (one for each direction) lined up under the arches of the road bridge.
Agree with this, also the tied arch bridge doesn't need any supports in the middle of the span. Have a look at pictures of tied arch bridges online and you'll notice none do.
looks cool, maybe double track the incoming rail line except if this is intentional to use the rail for export only ie one way. if the cargo station is for grain only, then it may be too close to oil for realism.
A fantastic build as alwsys; though I do offer one suggestion in terms of naming. I think PetroConiferia sounds better than Coniferia Petro. Also, if you'd like a logo made for this or other builds, I'd be happy to help when I have the time.
Single track all they way Will give problems! Better 2way singletrack on the bridge and than directly after bridge back to double track. More Concrete around the base of the storagetanks because you dont want environmental problems or protest groups there.

I have an idea, some homeless people live under the bridge next too the oil harbour, what do you think? I mean the region isn't the wealthies, maybe a small economic crisis, people who worked for the oil company lost their jobs and started living under the bridge?
To be honest to don't like the road going up to the highway I think it's to low for trucks with container to go to and after you build the dock try putting some construction work on some of the city to made it look like that there are some development in the city

Hi from Agerskov :)
Already know this is going to be a great video
It would be great if you dropped an asset/mod list. Anyways, great build.
This is muuuuuuuuchhhhh better
maybe a mountain heritage railway in the suburbs. ''The Mt Douglas Coal mine railway was shut down in 1946''
My favorite cities skyline RUclips

Your "old" bridge still exists. It is in Bath Maine and the rail part is still used. The road part has been replaced with a newer bridge
For the offshore pipeline, there will only be one set of pipe needed to transfer liquid bulk cargo since the cargo-manifest (where the cargo is discharged from) is located amidship and there's only one onboard.

The city is coming along so well. Would you ever consider a waterfront area? Like the V&A waterfront in Cape Town, South Africa.
With the new port tracks, would it be better to be double track to prevent any blockage of incoming and outgoing trains?
let me like that before watching.
me lol
The train from "tomorrowland" :)
Awesome content as always.
Can you tell us the name of that weared off small road that you used all over the area?

I'm extremely worried of how is it going to be controlled the traffic on the single track bridge.
Poo, flying trains.....Nevermind! 😆👍😎
Golden rule:
Trains especially the cargo/freight trains (in real life) can work with 1.5% slope gradient. The lower the better. Else it will be difficult for them to climb.
High speed railways allows 2.5% to 4% gradient.
These are the golden rules to make your railways realistic. Hope these helps
Also trains in general needs wide curve radius of 125m as minimum, atleast in NA. But then again, it’s just a game 😂 don’t be pressured about it. Just imagine your trains are superior than other types of modern trains😂😂
I have an idea, some homeless people live under the bridge next too the oil harbour, what do you think? I mean the region isn't the wealthies, maybe a small economic crisis, people who worked for the oil company lost their jobs and started living under the bridge?
I think that bridge is based of the old bridge in Bath, Maine.
I would love to know what map theme you're using!
I only have garbage tab and not garbage and Industry tab. So now I can't build the oil or ore industries. How to solve it please help🙏🙏
Can I just ask which roads were used all over that industrial area?
How is he able to turn crosswalk markings off in node controller?
Can you give me ALL the mods you have used in this series?
How about the old road is no longer used and there's this tent city with campers on the old road deck?
Loved the thumbnail and like always the video ! Day 10 asking for the mod/asset list!
This is SO Susquehanna River
To be honest to don't like the road going up to the highway I think it's to low for trucks with container to go to and after you build the dock try putting some construction work on some of the city to made it look like that there are some development in the city
wow!
Hi almighty RUclips algorithm ! 😊
Maybe place a barrel in the water next to the dock where you make the comment as a inside joke
Why not name the oil industry "Petroferia"
