I Was the RAF's Cheapest Mechanic Ever - Plane Mechanic Simulator

- Airplane maintenance is REALLY expensive - but a lot less expensive if you're focus on reducing costs! As an added bonus, we can really save some weight in these aircraft if they're put together wrong enough!
A seriously fun game - I had a great time with this!

Lessons: bolts aren’t THAT important, look out for ghosts (unless you can make them work for you without pay), the front of the plane is the place for garbage. Really simple!
Blue Heelers are awesome dogs bro, glad your mascot is one
Are you the guy that did the voice over for that dog meme?
Welcome everyone
Seriously, as a mechanic, i wish i have a ghost to do bolts thing :V
Im glad i read this before i watched the video
You can probably stop worrying about the bombs so much. Either nothing happens and there's no problems, or something happens, in which case you probably won't be the one with problems.
Always the optimist! Love it!
As an actual plane mechanic aka Crew Chief I knew this is what it would look like if a pilot tried to do what we do, and it scares me.
I got one of his videos in my recommended one day and now I learn about planes
It’s 2021 (hooray) you can’t assume anyone’s gender. I’m a attack helicopter.
This is how I've fallen down the aviation rabbit hole even further.
@@causallyexisting1718 and there are different helis someone might identify as, i identify as a panzer spähwagen. not a heli but that gets the point across
If you stick with it, you'll become an avgeek, so stick with it.
@@causallyexisting1718 I am a Warthog-10 Something like that
4:35
Planes: Still use carburators sometimes
Also planes: Bf 109 had fuel injected engine since 1938
Alternative title: former pilot punishes current pilots by crushing their dreams and limbs
30min ago I watched one of your shorts,
Now I'm hooked and am on a binge of you channel. Love your videos :D
One mission was a pain. I couldn't find the last "damaged" part. I eventually gave up and put the plane back together, and apparently the broken part was that I had not put the parts back on. This was after almost every part of the engines was removed.
7:18 I’m sure the pilot was “a leaf on the wind”.
Nailed it!
To be fair to mark this is quite probably his first solo and he might have only had 3-4 hours flying at this point
Hey Peterson do you know where we stored our extra bombs? It’s in hanger 1. Wait isn’t that where we put the trainees? Ah potato potato.
"Flying airplanes is fun, but have you ever fixed one?" lol this is a great video!
As a Navy Airframer, everyone says they want to work on planes till they actually do it
A-10 crew chief here I feel you
F-35 crew chief, I feel this 100%
My grandpa said he regretted that decision when he worked on his first Douglas DC-7, it had wright engines and they leaked a lot
@@wyattwilliams2457 I work on H-60s and due to the fact that they usually fly so low to the water, they corrode like a mf. I’ll have days where the workload is almost completely just dealing with corrosion
I'm just a civie, and I'm not mechanically inclined. But, I remember working on my dad's Cessna 152 with him (he was trained as an A&P in the USAF) when I was a teenager, and the words I heard when I screwed up! I'm tiny, so my dad took advantage of my small hands being able to get into every nook and cranny of that plane where his couldn't. It was fun, till it wasn't.
this video has taught me more information about planes than my SASI in rotc
"we're gonna do the same thing and assume that's the only bad thing here"
Takeaway: planes and cars are in fact, not the same thing.
One of my relatives was the one installing the radios on spitfires during ww2
This was a lotta fun to watch! Glad you enjoyed it : )
I gotta learn that trick to replacing a valve without removing the head. That's quite the time saver.
gotta hire some ghosts!
An early access game that ran on 12 fps maximum on release... looks a lot better now, great vid! I’ll try a reinstall.
So funny story. I'd just taken off in a 172 on one of my first flight lessons when we suddenly started to hear a banging noise. We went back, landed, and as I'm unstrapping and getting ready to ground the aircraft for maintenance, we discovered that part of the seatbelt had the door shut on it and was flapping in the air.
Explosive Ordnance and fuel next to your Working station remember there's no ocea in the military
That’s not even OSHA! OSHA would be all the asbestos and lead-based paint all over the place! Explosives next to explosives is just bad common sense!
It'd be great if they actually did add an infantry section to the game where you have to get back into the good graces of command by fixing stuff so that they transfer you back.
Ive been addicted to flying since i was a little boy, I recently joined the Airforce with the hopes to be an pilot after finishing my schooling. Your videos are actually informational and an absolute riot. Keep it up and keep it shiny side up ✌
What's your afsc?
You can’t remove the valve from the cylinder head with it still on the engine REEEEEEEEEEE
That was fun. Not sure I’ll get into this game, but it’s cool to watch.
Its definitely very detailed! Could be handy to know your way around an aircraft engine for Alaskan outback flying! Although probably not many WW2 British fighters perusing the glaciers!
NoDak Express Gaming - it does strike me as handy. I’ll keep an eye on game progress, maybe give it a go.
As a former Airforce aircaft armament troop the way the issues are presented brought me back to my time in. Sometimes pilots seem to get silly and write the most random things. Sometimes
Id definitely love to see more of this game on your channel
Scrolled down and saw one of your shorts so now I’m hooked.
As a Maintainer currently in US Air Force. I can confirm, lots of ghost and dangerous shenanigans. But at no point does Ammo get to hang out with us.
Fuel truck... Haunted. I'm freaking rolling dude lol.
Hahahahaha I don’t think I’ve ever laughed as hard at a RUclips video as I did after the suggestion for a wwII first person shooter aspect after failing to be a mechanic lol. Love your stuff haha keep it up
As a current aircraft maintainer in the USAF we 10000 percent put training maintenance people on training pilotd jets
“Fuel truck?
Haunted.”
Loved it
4:38 lol, when ever i hear that i always think of planes that have literal car engines in them
I love how I saw one short and now I binge watching, great content, Keep it up.
I'm only 2 minutes in, and already the game simulates the life of aviation maintenance pretty good. Pilots giving really bad feedback on a problem they experienced during flight, and a head command giving you shit for not solving the problem, in the simplest way possible.
Needs more of the following: Anger, cussing (often at engineers), sleep deprivation, tobacco use, coffee, energy drinks, etc.
All valid points! I wasn’t going for the full simulator experience - gotta keep it reasonably clean for RUclips 🤣😂🤣!
G4..ur taking me back in time Lol :)
Man im so lucky your shorts got recommended to me xD can't get enough of these dogs
Dont let the Roog read this...his ego is aleady there as it is :)
"Many planes still use carburetors"... Me with a fabric skin aircraft built in 1968 with wooden spars, and a fuel injected engine.... "whaaaaa?"... No I get it, my plane is weird. Lol but I'm weird, so we get along just fine. Hey, you gotta trust a plane if you're gonna do aerobatics on a 50+ year old airframe with wood spars. That and I REALLY trust my parachute guy. (knock on wood. Not the spars though, that's the mechanics job)
Good snacks in the break room? Maybe some IPAs in the fridge?
You’re surprised that training mechanics working on training aircraft! Have you ever been to Embry-Riddle lol
🤣😂🤣 didn’t realize they did A&P training there too!
😂😂😂 cannot stop watching your videos, i have never had so much with aviation videos.
you're the first channel that's this small that i actually like the videos of. Love it!
Bro this guy is so funny. I need more videos that arent 1 min or less 😅
Ladder: check
Fuel cap: remoooooved
Fuel truck: *HAUNTED*
they just take longer to make - hopefully i can do this more than just as a hobby at some point. its just a matter of dollars and cents unfortunately. I'm glad you enjoyed the video though :) I had a lot of fun with that one!
This is what really happens when you repair your aircraft in war thunder
🤣😂🤣
@@NoDakExpress this is the first time a RUclipsr replied to my comment that I posted on their video!
Maybe that's why my Tiger has a 19 day repair after my engine is destroyed
This is the channel I needed
I would love to see another video like this amazing one.
Btw I love your videos because you are Graystillplays but with planes.
Trainee mechanics working on planes for trainee pilots gets rid of the weak and strengthens the strong, anyone who isn't ready to work on or fly a plane will be *taken care of* while those who are ready and smart enough will succeed
🤣😂🤣
I have a freind who stopped flying for (Got fired) from a helicopter company who MAY just have been decades ahead of themselves for training their mechanics JUST THIS WAY. The final straw was him telling a "mechanic" to GET OFF THE LADDER and he'll put the safety wire on himself because the mechanic was cutting a few corners ... ON THE FASTENERS THAT HELD THE ROTOR ON. I'm not a mechanic, but, I think that's kinda important.
1:30 USAF be like 👀 🔧 ooof
Got your stuff in my recommended, and I love it now!
2:16 just sends you to the steam cod ww2 page
Hearing hammers for days on an aviation maintenance topic gave me an aneurism
🤣😂🤣
As a real life airplane mechanic, i get a little triggered at the fact that we get so strongly associated with fuelers.
95% of the time, someone else fuels the planes.
We *de-fuel* them more than re-fuel them. 😂
I'd happily be a consultant to these guys for this game. It's not half-bad though, in terms of internal & mechanical details. For an amateur game. 👌
Dang😹they sent you to infantry fast
As an actual A&P we basically just “simulate” working all day anyway
4:50 I'm dying 🤣
I was once told that the only thing that holds planes together is safety wire. Kinda makes you nervous
The Cap for the fuel tank weighs 3.5 ounces and you put it back on. You could have gotten someone killed with the extra weight you added sirs
If their isn’t any broken bolts, seized lines, or busted rivets you can just go back to something else because my hands hurt from all the good times
Subscribed, liked and I absolutely love your content! I hope you grow big!
3:00 probably concrete dummy bombs, I mean it is a training field
I’m just imagining some COD clone that starts after they transfer you to the infantry lol 😂
I've rebuilt a swash plates while it was sitting on a crate of hellfires.
Hey man, everyone is the "FUCKIN' NEW GUY" at some point somewhere!
Im an ojt aircraft maint. And restoration "specialist" at FIGHTING CLASSICS AIRCRAFT RESTORATION in Az. Mostly do A4 SKYHAWKS "scooters" currently doing a ground up restoration of a T6 Texan (SNJ).
Keep the vids comming man
I love ur humor.
#LONGFORMATPLEASE!!
WHOA!!! frugal!? Just on tire pressures...
I know it's missing the joke, but those bombs and guns are most likely dummies and trainer rounds to teach mounting procedures. I'd be more worried about the ghost fuel truck exploding.
this was a really good video
Love the content keep it up!
Absolutely hilarious! Please do more like this!! :)
Lol I was, at one point in time, a trainee plan captain working in a training command for pilots to fly the F18 superhornet. Fueling jets is boring lol. That pump is awkward as fuck.
5:22 😂
Wait, what if YOU’RE the ghost? 😧
Holy crap! check out 1:24 - I don't cast a shadow! GHOST CONFIRMED!
Bombs and weapons stored immediately next to the maintenance area? What is this, an aircraft carrier?
"Planes and cars are different"
*Looks at flying car
No, they aren't.
so noone is going to mention the scaffolding is on the bombs?
if there was a mechanic that would word on my plane this guy would make my plane weight less which means i can go faster and if i can fly faster i can win mo dog fights.
lmao and i like how the plane is made to be able to carrry those bolts and it can carry BOMBS so i dont think its much of a difference?
I subbed, great vid
I actually found your channel from the farther gamer discord server, and im glad i did!
Useless fact (that may not be completely correct).
When assembling the Merlin motors, engineers used a tuning fork to test the 'ring' of the bolt. If it was out of tune, they loosened/re-tightened the bolt. If it failed again, the block was scrapped.
(Info provided years ago by either Dad or Uncle George (Mulligan) who used to pilot planes between airports/assembly during the war (and got to fly a Spit just to tick it off in his book.
(He also gave ma a pair of full length leather gauntlets... He said the pilots preferred nylon gloves for a better feel... but in a fire, hilarity ensued with "plastic" gloves vs rapid oxidation of a material in the exothermic chemical process of combustion.)
Useless fact II: I'm just a repair mechanic of Water Blasters and other junk with 20yr experience in IT Support (till I got sick of the politics) soooo I don't know nuttin right anyhooze!
I love how me and him always have a dog in our thumbnails. Except for my old videos
blue healers are the best i have 3 and we use them for rounding up our cows
I liked this, keep it up
didn't know that RAF mechanics vlogged.
i laughed so hard at these edits i loved the video
Squire would love this video
Damn ghosts. xD
If I've learned anything as a mechanic it's that bolts aren't that important, in fact they seem to just show up out of thin air on the workbench the second you get the car back together and running.
This is a joke by the way, I've never left out bolts on paying customers cars. Now my own cars on the other hand we just won't talk about.
Those are standard 100 lb bombs there so that's 400 lbs of bombs behind that work bench. That's not... Very... Safe.
Love the vids
What is the music track used when you're talking about the bombs left near someone named hammersfordayz?
Loved the video! Keep it up.
as an A and P cheap is always best lol!!!!
As an airframes mechanic in real life (CH53E) mechanics is hell lmfao.
if you haven't seen it yet - you'll enjoy The Huey Review: ruclips.net/video/x-p-W2CojEQ/видео.html anyone with actual helicopter experience will get it ;)
I have, such I think it was the first video of yours I watched, I play a good bit of DCS myself. Been really enjoying the f18 and looking to getting into the Tomcat.
@@viper302 awesome - I figured you probably had. I've got the F18, its glorious. Also, free trial until January 11 on all DCS modules, I've been test flying EVERYTHING :D
@@NoDakExpress I know! I got my hands on the f-15 recently and although not a full fidelity plane, still super fun and easy to master for air to air!
Those weren't just regular explosives those were nukes
Thanks for the laughs
8:20 im an auto mechanic......and like ya....
you are into it for 8 hours to fix a 2 dollar part that was usually known to be weak..... but it took out a 800 dollar part/parts
@Dr. Bright Pretty often
Mark Whitman is he related to Michael Whitman?
Wondering if I could talk to you about ATC, I’m at school in the marines gunning for atc
I enjoyed this alot
