Ground safety override (red covered switch far rear on the left console) will allow you to fire the gun (and release weapons), regardless of gear state.

I’ve got to say the laugh is contagious! I enjoyed seeing the new map in the video. I took some pretty hot photos of some a-10s last weekend that I’ll have to get into the server. Working on editing them. Great video as always and a good laugh.

Hey NoDak. I have a new Thrustmaster TM16000 HOTAS throttle and stick that you can have. I got it then immediately upgraded to the warthog hotas after I got started heavy into the A-10. Anyways I’ll gladly ship it to you free of charge, completely disinfected of course.

Fun fact, the A-10's gun puts out a little over the output of one engine, effectively halfing the thrust of the Hog.

U resize there is a switch under a red cover by ur left hip in the a10 allowing u to fire the gun on the ground
i imagine trying this in real life would stop you way faster after digging your aircraft into a trench of potholes

because today I learned there are more ammunition options for this thing, than the few braincells left in my head could come up with
And... now I'm just thinking of an entrenched A-10, with the added bonus that it can do it itself.
That gun can help with a lot of anything, but with an F-14 or F-16, shit out of luck for the A-10.
Edit: Unless the F-14 or F-16 make no critical errors such as turning back at the A-10, there is little to no luck for the A-10. It is also very dependent on the skill of both pilots. NoDak, for example in an A-10 could defeat an F-14 or F-16 slightly below his skill level. There are a lot of factors. But pilot skill is one of the most important and it plays a huge role in the performance of both planes. You can imagine the scenarios.
I can't tell you how many times I've heard pilot for Air Force or individuals who worked alongside the A10 say " the gua-8 avenger is more powerful than most people realize both in the fround that it fires and how much kinetic energy that gun dumps. You know on long burst which they tell pilots not to do it can actually stall the plane right?"
This is a common misconception, the smoke and gas from the gun firing that many rounds combined with the angle of attack led to oxygen deficiencies in the engines. This may be part of why they say don't fire long bursts, but the other reason is almost certainly nothing needs a long burst from a gun that size
The gun won't stall the plane from it's recoil alone, the 2 massive general electric engines overpower the gun's recoil..
FYI the rockets wont slow the plane down at all. Rockets propel themselves by exerting force backwards against the air behind them instead of the inside of a barrel so they are "recoilless". In fact they technically should speed up the aircraft due to the outside of the rockets dragging along the inside of the tube in the rocket pod while they accelerate, but that is way too small of a force to have any effect.
and i think the dragging would be a much weaker force than the fact that the thrust of the rocket is pushing against the wing
Hey man, they is a switch which can let you shoot with the wheels down. It's the furthest switch back on the left panel. I could be more specific but you ain't gonna see this comment anyways lol ( it's under a red cover)

we did the math on this. The GAU-8 produces a recoil force of about 10,000lbs. Which is nearly the same as a single F-18 engine in full military power lol.

There is a switch at the back of the left console to override the WOW sensors for the gun.

By the way, in the back left of the cockpit under a red cover you can turn the ground safety off on the GAU-8 and fire with landing gear down.

The best switch in the A10 is in the rear on the left console. It's labeled "GND SAFETY OVRD". It allows gun employment while wheels are down and even with weight on wheels.
Gives a whole new meaning to buzzing the tower.

This is actually how you're supposed to land the a-10(a-164) on small airstrips in arma 3.

The A10 has a ground override switch on the right hand side under a red cover in the very back for the gun. This will allow you to do a normal landing and pull the trigger after the gear is down without risking damaging the gears

Fun fact, if you somehow put a second gau-8 on the a-10 the plane would stall seeing as the recoils would overpower the engines, and assuming you didn’t fall out of the sky fast enough push the plane backwards
If you are ever looking for alternatives to gas for your car, buy a gau-8!
Also the Russians made something with more recoil, I forgot what it is, check out the book What If chapter on making a jet pack out of guns for more information

first landing remeniscant of the early deployment of the herculese rocket assisted landing, where they fired the rockets too soon and lost pretty much all lift, also, firing the wrong rockets(only firing the braking rockets)

there's a modded plane on warthunder that's basically a WW2 version of the A10 and I think phlydaily covered it, yeah that gun is basically an airbrake
Now to make it standard for all military runways to be able to resist 30mm cannon fire
the gun does produce as much recoil as the thrust of one engine, so it's the equivalent of having a backwards facing engine at 100% for as long as the gun fires.

The gau-8 avenger is easily able to stall the aircraft in flight if shoot for too long irl... i believe it was like 3 seconds or something... although they made improvkments and modifications like slowing the fire rate and stonger better engines to help prevent and more so know eradicate the issue

I mean, it's just physics. What's the barrel exit velocity for the rockets and the bullets, multiplied by the mass of each, multiplied by rounds per second or maybe by total rounds in the case of rockets. Whichever gives a higher number is going to stop you faster.

If i remember correctly an a10 pilot said that with enough ammo in the gun the plane would stop forward flight in air. that means the gun has more recoil than the engines have thrust. lol
very disappointed you didn't do a run with the gun AND the brakes together for maximum e-brake action...
All of the tests with the gun also involved the full wheel brakes! I tried doing a ‘gun-only’ brake attempt and I ran out of ammo be fore stopping and the rolled for just under a mile 😆

Use to play a online game back in 2004 Called Fighter Ace Online....WW2 planes (213 of them) from each country My fav was the Moquito "Tse Tse" with the 57mm Auto fire cannon .. So think of a pie And each slice is a country In it you had Airfields with buildings Fuel, Ammo, AA And troops And ammo depots, Tank factories Etc When you bombed/damaged the area to 51% You could drop troops from a C-47 to capture it Or Trigger Your countries tanks from a factory to the damaged area if it was 60% If you damaged it say 75% Enemy tanks would come And defend it till the damage was repaired......In my squad of 10 people On a avg night I was Ground ops.. So This meant Destroy enemy lines of tanks Shoot soft targets on the ground when we needed 1 or 2% more damage ............I would set flaps in the 4th setting (all the way) Thorttle back And have one engine alittle slower than the other This would send the plane alittle sideways Slowing me down even more And with some feathered rudder I could hover behind the tanks And lay in 2 or 3 cannon shots per tank one behind the other While My wing cover flew 5K above me in a Tempest MkV 20mm guns And 2 500lbs bombs (just in case) ...I liked the game because There was no 200 keys to program Or worry about pitch trims etc But at the same time You were slow if you were fully fueled as to 1/2 tank Same with bombs And on the Mosquito it was known for its torque of the engines Coming in for a landing You shot the cannon Set flaps Engines to 0 And had to take a long glide in Your video reminded me of that ....Liked !
