Been watching your videos for a while and I am a big fan. I have a friend whose father is a lifetime locksmith and a damn good one at that. Showed him some of your videos, now he watches your videos too. He is an older gentleman and is retired, but by showing him your videos and him being intrigued by your skill we succefully brought a man from the age of pen and paper to a smart phone/RUclips master. He's 83 and everytime I see him he asks, "You seen our internet buddy pick that... He's good ain't he?"
Mum's Dad was a painter and I was a kid growing up with computers. He'd asked me how on earth do the computers represent colour, and from all the stuff I'd learned at uni, figured it'd be a cinch. And I think it really would have been. That is, if we'd both been fortunate enough to have watched him take the digital leap of faith. I think it never happened because he'd convinced himself he wouldn't understand. Then, nearly 14 years after we lost him, I read a comment like yours. Thanks. :)
HE IS WORTH HIS WEIGHT IN GOLD. People and companies complained about him showing how to open locks. Today most of them send him locks to find weaknesses before they release for sale. He does it for free.

The killer key said, "You underestimate my power!" as LPL proceeds with an easy solution to get the key out. In the words of Mace Windu, "He's too dangerous to be left alive!" I fully expected him to beat the key, but I did not expect him to already have a tool for that exact purpose that just needed to be inserted once and removed. It’s like watching an action movie. You know the hero is going to win, but once in a while, the way he does it is still impressive.
On a recent RV trip, my wife put a bike lock key in the RV's ignition. The bike key has vertical slots that acted like a lockout key. I did not have my picks and had to improvise. My wife donated a barrette and I used that to lift the pins.

I've watched about a dozen vids here after coming from Stuff Made Here challenge and as soon LPL explained how a killer key works, I knew the type of tool he'd use. Fascinating how the right tool can easily defeat a certain security feature of a lock.

Seems like something to use in conjunction with a nice lock as an additional counter-picking measure. Maybe not so much against the equipped but even so. Also a potential tampering indicator if the key is easily broken from someone mistakenly trying to open the lock with it. This is just cruel. Not only does he “kill” a lock, he plunges the tool back in to kill it again, makes a mockery of the tool with an improved version he just happens to have on his key ring and totally nullifies the threat of this product with one of his own in under 2 minutes and even that was taking his time. Brutal.
While his key is definitely an improved version, by the looks of the intrusion method, I think it would have similar results. LPL just shows that if there is a will there is a way to bypass basically any defensive measure.

Passive measures only stop the unprepared and unskilled in their tracks; they only _slow down_ a prepared and skilled attacker, and in this case, it only slows them down by about five seconds. That may or may not be enough slow-down, depending primarily _on how far away that armed guard is._

That wasn't a true killer key, as it didn't have the grove to keep it from getting pulled out. It was simply a key he put a breakaway groove in for demonstration.

My dad was a locksmith a long time ago, he once rekeyed an entire office building alone in a week and the guy didn't want to pay him saying he took too long, so my dad went back and put lockout keys that breakoff in all the locks and said he can pay him to remove them and if someone else does he'll do it again

There used to be a certain Kwikset keyed knobset where the lock mechanism plate was held into the knob by a pair of clips. I made a key just like that and used it to pull the lock mechanism out. It was the fastest way to defeat that lock. Though, what with their plastic housing, you could usually just rake once to pick them. Yanking out the core was only just a little bit faster. I ground down a key blank to be thin enough to slide in next to my grabber to extract it.

Covering an incorrect key in superglue works for this too. You can even let the key you used dry and then break off the glue fragments to use it normally later. Or... so I am told.
Though this lock has a reputation of keeping some of the worst criminals behind bars it's design leaves a lot to desire. Right now I'll show you how easy it can be opened with a toothbrush like the ones they would hand you out in prison.

I went to a boarding school. My uncle was the maintenance director and had just finished rekeying the whole administration building where classes were held. One of my classmates decided to pull a prank and left the dorm in the middle of the night and went to the administration building and super glued all of the key holes on the exterior doors. I think superglue is more effective than the Killer Key. My poor uncle had to drill every core out and redo the locks. Needless to say, classes were delayed that morning, which I believe was the whole intent of this “joke”.

Worst generals drill killer keys. Good generals kill the users who use killer keys. Best generals don't mind either way, they have defeated the lock before it was invented.
I once had an army 3,000,000 strong, equipped with the most advanced, latest in defense bullet proof armor, anti aircraft weaponry, and enough drones to ensure the sky was lit up for a whole year straight and this man singlehandedly took us down with a wrench and a key from a Knockoff lock he lost…. Body parts everywhere, and yet all he kept whispering as he slaughtered dozens was “overall, slight improvement over the master lock equivalent”………….
This guy is a genius makes lock picking looks easy I actually bought a set of picks and been working on lock picking due to this channel and nowhere as easy as he makes it look
Personally I prefer the tactic of taping a sign on the door that reads "No" Then there's a chance of the attacker stopping to have a laugh before just kicking in the door frame

LPL is just like a magician. You present a problem that looks like it will be really hard to solve. But when you pull the curtain back and let us see backstage, the "magic" is really an easy solution if you have the right tools! These videos never disappoint.
This is main reason I keep coming back. So many 'creators' these days feel the need to stretch out their content to 10 mins+ to simply to feed the algorithm and maximize ad revenue. Thank you LPL for keeping it real!

That definitely would be harder to defeat, but I think you could still do it without destroying the lock. Take a rotary tool with a cutting disk, slice the plate away until you can access the keyhole, and then do as the video here shows.

@Vincent and alot louder. History has shown that people find a way inside a structure if they realy want to. Security messures are set in place to slow them down or make them leave DNA or other clues so that they can be found easier.
Quickset has a lock opener that pops out the rose with this same key. It has a key release that pushes up on the pins to slide out the key. I have two of these kits but they're not much useful anymore as Quickset has begun making their locks with plastic parts that bend or break when popping out the rose. I mainly use them on the older locks to rekey them.
When I was in middle school, one of my classmates used a homemade "killer key" to disable our teacher's cabinet. It contained her school supplies and stuff she could hand over to the kids that needed a pen, paper, or whatnot, and a few extra books for the courses. It was this old wooden cabinet with a top-sliding door. Basically, he just snapped the key in, no idea what he was hoping to accomplish. But, when the teacher arrived and saw it, she just shrugged, tried to pull it out a few times. Probably realizing it was stuck, hopeless to remove, she just punched through the door, breaking the lock free from the door itself. Then she just slid the door back up and acted like nothing as she distributed papers for our exam. Anyway...I kinda wish I had known this trick as a kid, cause I would have loved to show off my skillz to that specific teacher.
You would probably have the staff blaming you for the attack in the first place, the attacker blaming you for messing with his plans,and later on the police knocking when talk of "that kid with the pockpicking skills"goes round the gossip circles and the local police decide to look again at the unsolved burgularies.
You could make this really difficult by putting a flat plate just forward of where the “break off” point is that covers the rest of the key way. That way you’d have to get around that just to gain access to lift the pins.
I picked a lock at my Dad's while he was in the hospital. I needed access to his shed and I was able to get it. I felt a surge of joy and accomplishment along the lines of winning a million dollars and I bragged to everyone around me. I come back home to watch a few LPL vids and I realize that my success was mundane, prosaic and boring by comparison to what LPL can do... Ah well...

The primary used to these keys is to stick in the door of somebody you don't like.
You use these after a disagreeable tenant is kicked out by the sheriff but before the lock smith comes.

This is just cruel. Not only does he “kill” a lock, he plunges the tool back in to kill it again, makes a mockery of the tool with an improved version he just happens to have on his key ring and totally nullifies the threat of this product with one of his own in under 2 minutes and even that was taking his time. Brutal.

While his key is definitely an improved version, by the looks of the intrusion method, I think it would have similar results. LPL just shows that if there is a will there is a way to bypass basically any defensive measure.

That wasn't a true killer key, as it didn't have the grove to keep it from getting pulled out. It was simply a key he put a breakaway groove in for demonstration.

My dad was a locksmith a long time ago, he once rekeyed an entire office building alone in a week and the guy didn't want to pay him saying he took too long, so my dad went back and put lockout keys that breakoff in all the locks and said he can pay him to remove them and if someone else does he'll do it again

I just love how he owns that key's maker by showing his "hypothetical" key.
There used to be a certain Kwikset keyed knobset where the lock mechanism plate was held into the knob by a pair of clips. I made a key just like that and used it to pull the lock mechanism out. It was the fastest way to defeat that lock. Though, what with their plastic housing, you could usually just rake once to pick them. Yanking out the core was only just a little bit faster. I ground down a key blank to be thin enough to slide in next to my grabber to extract it.

Covering an incorrect key in superglue works for this too. You can even let the key you used dry and then break off the glue fragments to use it normally later. Or... so I am told.

I went to a boarding school. My uncle was the maintenance director and had just finished rekeying the whole administration building where classes were held. One of my classmates decided to pull a prank and left the dorm in the middle of the night and went to the administration building and super glued all of the key holes on the exterior doors. I think superglue is more effective than the Killer Key. My poor uncle had to drill every core out and redo the locks. Needless to say, classes were delayed that morning, which I believe was the whole intent of this “joke”.

A hardened version with a cylinder shaped head that would block the entry, instead of the stamped key shape, and this really could kill a lock
That definitely would be harder to defeat, but I think you could still do it without destroying the lock. Take a rotary tool with a cutting disk, slice the plate away until you can access the keyhole, and then do as the video here shows.
It could still be quite easily beaten I think, unless you also don’t want to damage the key. You would just need to cut or break off the cylinder
Best way to kill a lock would be to melt it until it's just a ball of metal.
Better version would have a sideways M shape and a flatten end so you could hit it with a hammer and break the pins

Security messures are set in place to slow them down or make them leave DNA or other clues so that they can be found easier.
He's evolved from beating locks to beating keys
Quickset has a lock opener that pops out the rose with this same key. It has a key release that pushes up on the pins to slide out the key. I have two of these kits but they're not much useful anymore as Quickset has begun making their locks with plastic parts that bend or break when popping out the rose. I mainly use them on the older locks to rekey them.

When I was in middle school, one of my classmates used a homemade "killer key" to disable our teacher's cabinet. It contained her school supplies and stuff she could hand over to the kids that needed a pen, paper, or whatnot, and a few extra books for the courses. It was this old wooden cabinet with a top-sliding door.
Basically, he just snapped the key in, no idea what he was hoping to accomplish. But, when the teacher arrived and saw it, she just shrugged, tried to pull it out a few times. Probably realizing it was stuck, hopeless to remove, she just punched through the door, breaking the lock free from the door itself. Then she just slid the door back up and acted like nothing as she distributed papers for our exam.
Anyway...I kinda wish I had known this trick as a kid, cause I would have loved to show off my skillz to that specific teacher.

You could make this really difficult by putting a flat plate just forward of where the “break off” point is that covers the rest of the key way. That way you’d have to get around that just to gain access to lift the pins.

I picked a lock at my Dad's while he was in the hospital. I needed access to his shed and I was able to get it. I felt a surge of joy and accomplishment along the lines of winning a million dollars and I bragged to everyone around me. I come back home to watch a few LPL vids and I realize that my success was mundane, prosaic and boring by comparison to what LPL can do... Ah well...
