Wow! What a difference. Thank you for doing clean tones so the subtle differences are obvious. Seriously, this is one of the best comparisons on RUclips.
I feel you. Both sound different with each tonality. I thought it would make a great improvement but they just vibe different..! Both has pros and cons on comparison!
It depends on what you like, the G10 obviously smooths the treble out and adds more low end but the stock still sounds great if you like the piercing glass like post-punk tone which I love myself. Both are great.
My Frontman 100 R had the stock spkrs..low volume was fine..turn it up playing with drums n such and it farts...little magnet can't handle the power at higher dbs ..replaced mine with Texas Heat spkrs ..very nice now
Stock one is needed to work alright with so many different sounds. not worth replacing it. If you want to choose certain speaker responses you better connect that one for the occasion using the output connector.
Interesting, thank you...I own this amp, and have tried a few speakers. I did try the Celestion greenback, but wasn't a fan. It gave the amp more oomph, but to my ear it added a lot of midrange, and the top end wasn't as clear. Became more "boxy". It sounded almost like a blanket was thrown over the cabinet. You can hear that here I think. I ended up swapping to a Celestion Gold. It adds power and "beef" while retaining most of the clarity...I think Fender voiced the amp to suit the stock speaker, which has a tiny magnet, so it doesn't take easily to "standard" speakers
I went completely the other way and screwed a Jensen P10r in my Superchamp and it is fuggin amazing. Punchy, warm, zingy , sounds like a hand wired princeton reverb but a bit better!!! Really.
sorry for late reply! haha haven't listened to that one but remember that any speaker can work if you have intention! narrow down your main usage of the amp. It would help you finding the right speaker for you. :)
Thank you so much for this comparison, I just bought a SCXD and was contemplating the speaker swp because people on forums recommend it, but TBH I don't think the Greenbacks sound "better". Definitely not more than €100 "better". The Fenders are slightly harsh in the treble, but nothing an EQ peddle won't fix. Is your action very low? The strings sound a bit buzzy for the clean sound imo. Anway, thanks again! I don't think I will be replacing my stock speaker😁
Cranking up will make sound better rather than replacing it. It gets pretty loud though. lol That treble thing may sound bothering but it can also be used as one of a kind. After years of going back and forth, I like how stock speaker sounds with the amp. Just push it like a man! It's a good amp.😎(with at least 9'o clock) Keep Rocking!!
With the speakers on the iPad, not much difference. Through headphones, the Cel sounds fuller and smoother, while the Stock sounds a bit thin, but not terrible…
Good example of the tone difference at low volume and low gain but the place where the greenback really makes an enormous difference is when you dime the volume and/or run a lot more gain. The Fender speaker tends to sound a bit like a hi-fi crapping itself and the greenback really eats it up and performs.
You got the point. I feel like it tends to mimic the sound of Deluxe Reverb. It sounds quite nice when overdriven. Cannot agree more on that hi-fi crapping thing hahaha
@@jbert7289 Been there done that.. Check out "G10 Gold: The Celestion Secret Weapon" on Celestion Channel. It would give you even harder time. haha (but 2x $$) You know, that small amp's lows feel on SC,, it still has some of that but not as much as the stock speaker. I will make a video of this greenback with better tone maybe by next weekend when I get my strat back with pickups changed. lml
will replacing my amp's speaker get rid of the incessant rattling I'm suddenly having? I planned on replacing the only tube it has as well, but my god the tone from this speaker is insane! for $99 it's unbelievable. here I was about to buy a whole new amp!
I'm glad that yo enjoyed the video. I, too, plan to replace the tubes since it's about time to do so. Which one did you have in your mind if you would buy a new one? You will feel the changes by replacing the tubes(pre-dominantly) and the speaker.
It’s too bad you didn’t show the difference between the Dirty channels. That’d where the sound/power is dramatically different. Night and day. The fender speaker is fine clean. But omg crank gain to 2 1/2 crank volume to 9-10 Tube scream lightly. Killer upgrade. That fender speaker just doesn’t cut it. Nice video though buddy. Thanks for posting.
Hey. Pretty well done demo. Nice to see contrast immediately one to the other using the same licks. Question - I have an X2 and find that the stock speaker is simply too brittle. Listening with headphones, I found the Celestion G10 Greenback rounded out the sound without loosing clarity, but did you also find that it cut the shrillness of the trebble too? Thanks!
The condition of the demo is with the flat EQ. (I should've put it's best sound for each speakers to shine better.) G10 sounds round, warm, balanced. You can EQ better with the knobs but it has a bit less shrillness "compare to" the stock one. It sounds a bit bass-y and muddy with flat on G10 but it balances much better with less bass than the stock one. It has more weight on sound and less plastic-y light mids. There are pros&cons but, to me, G10 sounds much inspiring to play. It was my first rough demo. I will try to post one of my favorite set-up. Let me know if you have any other question!
Here's the deal. Imagine the stock speaker is a plain white piece of paper. Now, when you choose the amp's "models" they are various colors that show up well against the stock speaker. Now, imagine the replacement speaker is let's say a "purple" sheet of paper. The amp's model's colors will be changed when mixed with coloration from the speaker. The stock speaker was "designed" to be NEUTRAL! In this way it can duplicate faithfully the amp models that DSP programmers worked so hard to clone. So, in conclusion, if you want to change the speaker because you would like the amp to be louder and wish to buy a more efficient speaker as replacement, you would want a "neutral" speaker, more flat response.
@@kalijx I use both depending on what I need. I think it has a pretty good direct out too. The new Tonemaster amps have very good direct outs with XLR. Fender has figured this out. Years ago direct outs were terrible. You’d never use them for recording , live or anything else.
The fanboys for each brand make it so difficult to buy new speakers. Here I see tons of people saying "The stock Fenders sound so much better," when I didn't hear that at all. I just see a bunch of people who need better computer speakers and headphones.

Now there's a dirty channel comparison. Check it out!
PS ... stock sounds better... i agree it lacks bass... but it captures the quack perfect

OD channel Ver. uploaded. quite interesting! 😎
I agree...stock defines the notes better even though the other is warmer.

True that. I thought it would only brings the pros but some elements are missed. It would sound quite nice on post-punk for sure.
Superb comparison video. Well done Sir!
OD ver. uploaded! check it out!
Stock sounds better to me. Good video.
@@erneumann3136 swapped back to the stock one already.. It breathes more naturally. 😊
That stock SCxd speaker stock sounds very good. I imagine a quad in a Super Reverb 😊
Great comparison and outstanding playing!
Thank you! :)
I like the fender stock better. It might actually be better the louder you go too.
I'm impressed... I actually prefer the stock speaker. I'd like to hear an alnico speaker demo.

I just had a OD channel comparison and stock speaker makes more sense.
The Fender Speaker sounded better. The Celestion sounded hollow and scooped.
OD channel ver. posted 😎 Fender speaker more likely sound like Greenback haha
Stock one is needed to work alright with so many different sounds. not worth replacing it.

I hear the opposite! Stock has no mids + shrill highs. The GB is mid fwd and smooth, very well balanced.

Nice!! You know, when you screw a nice speaker into your amp and the amp starts rocking,, 😏 you know how it feels.
Fender always had a bright sound. Not so much warm. Jensen C10R maybe the way to go?

What song are you doing at 0:25? Also how many ohms and watts is your G10? I’ve been looking into getting one for my SCX2
Sounds like Babe I'm Gonna Leave You but idk
Hi is the Greenback magnet larger than the stock magnet? Sounds great with the greenback! Btw what song is that riff from at 2:15?
The Greenback magnet(124mm) is much larger than the stock one(90mm) and weighs more. It's from Superstition by Stevie Wonder.
@@kalijx Thank you so much! I have researched high and low and could not find an aswer to the Magnet question.

There are fsr versions of this amp with aftermarket speakers that weren't designed to be neutral
