That is fantastic. I really hope you play music for a living, and that you get paid well for it. Anyone who can cover Gilmour so cleanly, and throw in a little of their own live-set-style variance to boot, is well beyond admirable by my estimation. Your "at ease" style proves just how common-place this level of play has become for you. Absolutely wicked.
Million dollar tone from a few hundred dollar setup. And so yet we learn again that all is in the hands and playin' of the fellow holdin' the damn instrument. But more than inspiring nonetheless.
Dude! You come 99.9% close to absolutely nailing the Shine On guitar solos. What amazing talent. Well done (from an extremely critical and cynical guitar-playing Floyd freak).
Been trying to play fast all my life, but this amp demo turned out to be eye opener for me to get into this type of guitar playing. Thank you and very nice tone!
Not sure most people realize how amazing this amp is. Its a digital preamp and tube power amp. It's astounding. If you haven't tried one, you should. If Fender made a more powerful version with a full pedal board that would allow you to access a few dozen presets, it would obliterate the sales of their other amps. I suspect that is why they don't make one. Even the high gain sounds are terrific. When have you ever heard anyone say that about a fender amp? (except for the Machete but they made very few of those and don't make them anymore). I would easily pay a grand for a version like I described. I have several tube amps and this is my favorite.
@@simon01ize sure. You don't have to crank it for it to sound great by any means. But because of its tube power section, it does come more alive when pushed a bit. But that doesnt mean it's not good at low volumes. It is! I have a peavey ypyr vip-1 in my office. Sounds and feels surprisingly great at low levels. Sounds and feels surprisingly shitty at high levels and decent at mid level. But...it's light as a feather and super cheap. The difference is that the vypyr is almost disposable whereas you'd have to pull the super champ from my cold dead hands. (Oddly, I'll still be alive but I will have completely frost bitten hands due to a skiing mishap and then I will walk around with these black hands just to fuck with people. But then I guess I wouldn't be able to play guitar so I won't be angry with you while you pry) ahhhh. Good times
Ha Ha!! nice one thanks for replying, yes i have some pedals and love the typical fender cleans as i am mainly focused on blues and classic rock,blues-rock.This does sound very, very good and considering its price point really good value.Cheers :)
@@marcelobelloni8754 YES!!!!! Feel is at least 50% of the equation for me. At least. Know this: power tubes are what give you the feel and oomph, not preamp tubes. I'm not saying they have zero effect on feel but I can't tell a difference. Digital preamp+tube power amp = gold
He's playing a USA made G&L Asat Classic with stock factory electronics and pickups. I'm pretty sure he said he had just bought that guitar used just before making this video. I' gotta blue on like his. These are amazing guitars. Most people leave the stock factory pickups in them because they sound so good, thats how good these guitars are. G&L stands for George Fullerton and Leo Fender so these guitars are actually Fenders but he could no longer use that name because he sold Fender to CBS some years before he started making these G&L guitars in his old Fender factory.
MrKleen True, G&L pickups are very underrated, more impressive however is the Plek'd fretwork, which is essentially done by a super expensive machine that measures and cuts frets accurate within a thousandth of an inch - Only so many of those exist in the world. Playability is where a G&L shines because let's be honest, it's still a Fender design which has and will always be two planks of wood bolted together with some electronics on it. Not rocket science, just art
I've have a 2008 model of the same amp for about 6 years, and after buying and selling quite a few until I found this one. I love it! I am not at your level of playing which I am impressed by, and wish to say that this video is as much about your skill and talent as the quality of that great little amp! Thank you for sharing this video with us all.
Agree wholeheartedly with some of the comments below - it’s really not all in the gear. This is just superb playing, capturing emotion and feel. The perfect example of how a cheap amp can sound truly great in the right hands. There’s another chap from northern England on here somewhere who makes a dirt cheap Tele with no branding sound like a million quid just by his playing alone. I’ll try to find a link if anyone’s interested. It’ll inspire you. Save your money and focus on your ears and fingers folks.
The output stage of Gilmour's Hi-Watts is based on an old Hi-Fi sound system so this all kind of makes sense. Tube preamp, two 6V6 power tubes, and a solid-state rectifier This would make a great pedal platform as well as a plug 'n play. Well done, sir. I've watched this many, many times.
Thanks. Beautiful Gilmour. :) I play in a little 60's Rock 'n'Roll & Country band. No micing up and we're quiet. Very quiet but everyone can hear us, if you get my drift. You dont need a 100 Watt half satck in every situation. ;) This thing is perfect & I actually need to hold it back volume wise in a live situation. It's a serious bit of kit & so affordable. I think they're one of Fender's best kept secrets. Thanks again for sharing.
I keep researching amps, yet keep realizing, it's all about the approach. I have the Vibro champ which is the little brother of this one and I love it, but it breaks up between 4-6 depending on settings and while that is ideal sometimes I often like to hear the clarity. Maybe I just need to add this one rather than anything larger.
I just bought one today, but I pick it up tomorrow. I can't wait. I didn't know that you could get such good quality Pink Floyd (David Gilmour) style effects from it. I always wanted to try and learn his style but never had the proper equipment. Thanks for great demo, exact effects and great lesson.
5:15 is where you start to decide you need to own this amp, LOL. Actually, its a good video throughout - terrific playing and demos a few of the sounds well. But, 5:15 is the "Money" shot, so to speak. Great vid.
My Dad bought me a 1967 Vox Viscount 2 x 12inch (Celestion Vintage 30's now) back in 1972 and I bought the Superchamp 3 years ago and love it! The Vox is too loud to practice when I have guests renting the villa so the SC is ideal! And it wails on 10. Don't place it anywhere high as it tends to jump around on its own when in metal mode.
Very nice playing. I loved the Fender XD so much I bought two. Then, ended up with other amps and sold both. This video reminds me how much I loved the Fender XD. I love this song, so beautiful. Its like Gilmour was playing an anthem for all the galaxies in the universe. Think about Gilmour's original recording and this solo making its way into the cosmos. Well done ...
Wonderful demo video! Fantastic playing and excellent demonstration of the SCXD's punch and versatility. I just picked-up one of these and love it! Thanks for your comment about the settings you used on channels 3 & 12 - So far those are my favorite channels (along with 8). I also love running my pedals into channel 1. Great amp. Again thanks for the exceptional video and playing!
Nice job! I am very impressed with the amp. I will have to consider picking one up. I am a huge Pink Floyd fan. Not that I could emulate Gilmour the way you have. Appreciate the variations on his solos. Really makes it your own. Thanks for sharing the video.
Beautiful playing and tones . Who would have ever guessed just by listening that was a Telecaster making those beautiful tones ! I love Teles and the Super Champ XD sounds incredible ! Great video thanks for posting .
I have one of these good little amps, and still I keep dreaming about a Princeton, Vibrolux etc-but I ought to get off my butt and practice-with the perfectly good gear I have! Thanks for this demo.
That was flippin awesome, the tone was damn near perfect. Anyone considering this amp needs to hear this. I never considering buying one but I'm thinking about it now...... My wallet thanks you, LOL............
This is amazing. I'm selling my Blackstar HT5r. I went for it because of the.lower wattage, 12 in. Speaker and fx loop but this demo convinced me to get my beloved PF tones. Thanks and Awe for your skills.
Great playing! I run my XD through a 12" inch cab, as humbucker output can make the tiny cab speaker sound VERY distressed. That is my only complaint about this amp. Well, it also would be nice to have a real reverb unit on it. But the digital reverb on it sounds great . . .
One of the places on the tube that i love returning to! Great playing, so relaxed, so loose it looks like you could suddenly drop the guitar AND the amp at the same time ;-)
I swapped out the stock speaker for an Eminence Ramrod ($75) in my XD and the improvement is dramatic! Ramrods magnet is 5x heavier than stock speaker. I dunno much about technology, but the sound diff is huge! Love the XD.
Great tone and great playing! I own the Sweetwater FSR version, wine red with the Celestion greenback. It's loud enough for gigs with my band so it replaced my Peavey classic 30 as my #1 (the classic 30 stays in the car as backup). It has a few functional shortcomings (no standby switch, no effects loop, can't save presets) but for a $500 tube amp the tone is fantastic!

Everytime they give a thumb up and i click the video, I still stay for the playin'.

This amp is not cheap, it's relatively inexpensive. I have one and I love it!
I've never heard anyone play Floyd so accurately, and so awesomely! KUDOS! You gave reason enough to buy this amp.
Just bought the Super Champ X2. This video sold me on it. Amazing amp. Very versatile and sounds fantastic.
This is a completely fantastic demonstration of what this little amp is capable of when paired with a talented player. AMAZING!
Bought this today at a pawn shop, after this video im glad I did ! Amazing playing and sound man !
Haha bought mine yesterday at a pawnshop and vic e versa !!!
Do you still like it?
Cheaaaa Guitar Ropes!!
I'm looking at one in a pawnshop right now
$700AUD
this came on when I was doing something else and i actually thought it was gilmour... insane guitar playing!
Best small amp ever made bar none. Every recording studio should have one.

Leaves me absolutely speechless. Wow, you are amazing.
Superb playing, under your hands this little amp became pure gold!

I sold my deluxe reverb and kept the champ a few days before watching this video. Wow, just wow......🎸🇨🇦
And you play so well !
The X2 is also a great amp better built than the XD , works great with fuzz pedals and pretty great cleans as well... bit on the bright side if you have the volume all the way up on a strat just on the bridge pickup. However i was testing with a decent squire....yeah two words that don't go together but this one had a nice heavy body and sounded dope to me...might actually buy it hahah!
You can alos mod the presets sound with the fuse software, i believe you can do this with XD and X2
Amazing sound from your amp and tele.
Perfect!!! Could you share your amp dialing settings for "Shine on you crazy diamond". I just got a SCX2 Cabernet Blues. Regards from Brazil. :)
