WARNING: This is a completely misleading demo. The player is using a $500 Eventide H9 effects processor WITH this Dark Side pedal. The Eventide is conveniently not shown in the video, in effort to mislead you (it is only mentioned in the heading). You can NOT get the majority of these sounds without also having the Eventide H9. For example, starting at 6:55 you hear a sound clip where the delay is the most important part of the sound. But, look closely at the controls during this clip. The Dark Side's mod switch is on Flange, not delay. That beautiful delay is coming from the $500 Eventide, not the Dark Side pedal. The Eventide is conveniently never shown on camera, even though it is hugely responsible for many of these sounds. Don't be fooled.
@@SaultiBalldeip You're clueless. Read the description. This player is using a $500 multi-effect peddle WITH the Dark Side. Most of the combination of effects being used in this demo aren't even physically possible with the Dark Side alone. For instance you can't even use the delay in combination with the flange/rotary/phase. Yet, most of these clips have delay blended with those effects. That delay is coming from the $500 Eventide H9. At very least you will need an external delay to get even close to most of these sounds.
Did the same thing about 17 years after you. Although these days I think teenagers like that are a dying breed. Too busy eating Tide Pods when they should be eating mushrooms.
Close! I mean good enough to trick someone who isn't an actual Pink Floyd fan or musician. Sounds like the recording is a little sub-par at best. The guy isn't using the tremolo arm enough to get the sound right to play Floyd. Gilmour rides the tremolo. He even picks with it in his hand loosely which allows him to reach the sharps and flats and push notes octaves ( definitely not just 1 octave as well ;). This effect pedal, in combination with the tremolo, and a pitch pedal would be close enough for me to want to just wail away Floyd songs for fun!
Well,... If you're me, first off, you start with a good mid-range Stratocaster,... and then you apply about 40 years continuous practice, and just ocassionally, you'll play it well enough to achieve a warm glow of satisfaction,.. tempered by the knowledge that it was all produced 40+ years ago by a young man who just wanted it to sound good in the Pink Floyd mix.
Great job. Wow, reading the comments and apparently everyone is an expert. You’re merely doing a demo for the pedal not claiming to be Gilmour...lol. Again, great job, thank you.

David Gilmour is one of the greatest guitarists of all time. I feel like his individual talent as a guitar player is heavily overshadowed by the awesomeness that will always be Pink Floyd. One of the greatest bands to have ever graced the very face of this planet.
Hearing the guitar track only really makes you appreciate Gilmour even more. Right around the time we needed to rank everything and the Stones were popularly crowned the best rock band in an effort to rightfully unseat the Beatles, hating on Pink Floyd became fashionable. That sucks. They were pure art and science, with the best understanding and implementation of audio engineering ever in major label recorded music. There are so many sounds that would not exist without them. Brave geniuses, phenomenal musicians, one of the very best bands ever. No other music of that period instills feelings like theirs does, and that's saying something. Some of it can be deeply disturbing in the most liberating of ways. Like thinking about the size of the universe.
Pink Floyd's music was so huge. Like a wall of sound caving in on you,the thunder of the Bass, the floating sounds from the keyboards, the percussion of the drums, and a guitar lead guaranteed to pierce your soul. (Makes you want to do that again)
The Rolling Stones were nothing compared to Pink Floyd. Not even in the same league! The Stones were a simple blues band, a one trick pony. The Beatles were closer to Pink Floyd in that they wrote a bunch of catchy pop tunes but none of their albums were anywhere near as well crafted and beautiful as Dark Side of the Moon.
I agree 100%. Yet everyone persists with ignoring the main engineer and producer for the first post- Syd Floyd years: Alan Parsons. Both Gilmore and Waters have spoken on this. David has earned every accolade he ever received. Sublime. 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
I guess there's a bunch of people here that don't realize they're hearing this through RUclips. Which is going to change the sound. Plus it would be physically impossible to get the same sound that they did back in the day. I bet if David Gilmour went back into the studio with the remaining members of the band. He couldn't get the same sound. There's too many variables, but this pedal sounds incredible.
Steve B there's so many idiosyncrasies to getting that sound. The boards would have aged. How much moisture in the air affects the speaker of the amp and the cabinet. His pickups on his guitar have aged Etc. It would be literally impossible to get the same sound. I'm not saying it wouldn't be close. But it happened in a place in time and that can never be reproduced.
The thing is we are all comparing it to Pink Floyd through youtube. so we got the same sound. The pedal sounds good and the player is good and it is a great demo of how this shit works.
Don’t piss on Roger, without him, we wouldn’t have all these Floyd songs. The man had his ego-attack in the past but in all fairness he wrote all the lyrics and without them we wouldn’t have the songs we know today.
Really nice, and impressive that it’s all in one pedal. Kudos to the player too who seems to have learned the parts well, and is playing with emotion and verve. I see no reason why in a live context, that this pedal, player, etc... wouldn’t sound awesome.
It does sound pretty good but I don't think it sounds like David Gilmore. He has his own sounds coming out of the Guitar. He's a Legend of his self. But not bad. Sounds great.
First off - great playing. Really enjoyed that. As for the Dark Side I have a lot to say in hope that Robert Keeley reads this one day. Keeley made a fatal flaw in adding little flip switches you can't kick while playing. So if you want the Phase with the Rotary, you can't have it. Also you need to reach down to toggle the little switches. So you wind up needing to add multiple other external pedals like a Phase 90 if you want to use the Rotary at the same time. Keely could have really nailed it (and still can in version 2) if he made the box bigger (Big Muff size) and broke out the tiny toggle switches into stomp switches and allowed any combination of effects. I have no idea why they Keeley did this, but it's a real shame. I could remove a couple of extra pedals off my pedalboard if he had just made the box a bit bigger and added a couple of extra stomp switches. I'm almost temped to build my own box and rip the circuit board out of the Keeley and wire it to a bank of stomp switches. The Keeley is an all-in-one box for people wanting to start getting into Gilmour and I give him credit for that. But if he could expand the box and build it up, add a few more effects, he really could have a great box. He could jack up the price and people would still save a bundle not having to purchase at least 3 or 4 other pedals. If I could only purchase one, it would be the Keeley because it can also get rid of my monstrous Big Muff. See.. there's another pedal you can get rid of. I hope Keeley takes this into consideration in version 2 of the Dark Side and makes it much bigger, adds stomp switches, a tap delay, a looper, and then I can finally clear off half my damn pedals. That's easily worth triple what they charge now. At least I would pay triple for it. Then they would basically have all of Gilmour not only in a single box, but everything exposed so you can stomp on anything/everything and people would save a few grand in extra stomp boxes they need to add now. I could sell off all my extra pedals, massively reduce the footprint of my pedalboard, and would gladly pay for a triple the current price for such an expanded Keeley Dark Side (hint hint)! Final point - if you add the EMG DG20 kit to your Strat, then, combined with the Dark Side, you truly have a great Gilmour rig. The active electronics make all the difference in the world.
I agree about your points on the pedal, but I'd argue that the EMG kit is not representative of Dave's sound on the "real" PF albums (until 1980). His red EMG Strat was just a phase, the guitar that defines him is the Black Strat.
Agree with your comment and also Iptomtom's. I have the Seymour Duncan SSL 5, '69, and fat 50's PU's in my strat and I achieve some pretty deadly Floyd tones.
@@splitwesti You guys are both right. I personally find a Fender CS69 or True Vintage 65 in the neck gets closer to the original records than the fat 50s though - even David has said the Fat 50s is thicker than his original '71 pickup.
Hey quick question from someone very new to this pedal thing, can't you like open it and modify to have 6 little buttons that can be turned on at the same time instead of 2 tiny switches that can only do one thing at a time
This man is the closest to having the bending skills plus vibrato at the same time i have ever heard/seen! Amazing skills my dude! This video made me by that pedal 2 years ago and its only pedal i use now other then my chorus and compressor pedals! Its the most versatile pedal Ive ever owned, simply an incredible pedal! Worth the high price tag
Watch closely. Starting at 6:55 how is he getting the flanger and delay to work simultaneously? There is clearly heavy delay, but the mod switch is on Flange, not on delay. This demo is trying to pull misleading bullshit here, making you think all those effects are coming out of this unit. In reality, there is a $500 effect processor that is responsible for the amazing delay in that clip, it's not the Dark Side delay.
@@matthewcoombs5298 They don't tell you what sounds are coming from the Eventide and what sounds are coming from the Darkside. As such, you don't know what you are listening to. In reality, you are hearing a ton of the Eventide, but without owning the Darkside pedal, you wouldn't realize that. You don't see that as being a problem in a "demo"? Are you fucking clueless?
Motherfuckers in the comments don't know the difference between a similarly and a master track damn it! Just because it's a tiny off tempo or out of tone doesn't mean they don't sound the same! Do you guys think David played 100% the same as the album than he did live on the dark side tour in 72-73?!?! This dude kicks ass and anybody should feel privileged to play with him if they ever get the chance -from a 17 year old in a small town from Mo.
Yeah Master tape hard to imitate, because this pedal use no EMI channel strip and Alan parson inclueded. If dark side of the moon recorded today digitally it may sound like the master tape haha.
Exactly, the fuzz tone lots of people are complaining about sound just like David playing the tracks live. This seems like a great tool for capturing lots of different floyd-like tones. Gonna keep a lookout for this one.
❤️ Dark Side of Oz, esp the looping heartbeats to start and end the album, sync’d perfectly with Dorothy listening to Tin Man’s chest for heartbeat. The opening of house door to see yellow brick road just as money begins to ching, the alarms in Time just as Ms Gulch first appears riding her bike, ... the lunatic is on the grass as the scarecrow loses his mind in brain damage, Us and Them lyrics, and after all were only ordinary men as Dorothy returns from Oz to explain her experience to the farm hands. Non-believers should read Saucerful of Secrets where it’s documented how they acquired AV sync equipment and submitted Echoes for 2001 A Space Odyssey before DSoM. I find the probability of these synchronizations occurring by mere coincidence far less likely than intentional and deliberately crafted in creating a classic masterpiece in its own right, linked to the film classic. Pure Genius.
Dang... Im hearing echo, flanger-phaser, chorus, delay, rotary speaker, dist-overdrive. Is there a noise gate in there too? And they all sound good. This circuit is a hybrid analog + digital mix... correct?
LOL, it actaully sounds pretty good especially when you played Brain Damage and Pigs, but the dark sound came from the recording engineers and who mastered it. Dark Side of the Moon has to be one of the best mixed and mastered album of all time.
this thing is expensive but i finally bought it and ive had it for about half a year now and man is it worth every peny you can get so many sounds out of this thing plus it sounds incredible. i find myself turning it on almost every time i play, my favorite way to use it is either a fuzz with a rotary or with a delay but honestly anything you do with this it can sound incredible
The tone is the trick I alwas knew that that is why my friends never sound right but as soon as i get right my first tone I knew it the tone is 95 % of one cover
Hi Bjorn, I have a Darkside V2 on order, Thank you for the Brilliant demo👍👍👍. I hope you and your Loved ones are safe and well. Take care ♥️👍. Melbourne, Australia.
This sounds Gilmour to my ear except the echo or delay, way too much, especially on comfortably numb. Cut that back and I think it would be much closer. My question is can't you get close to his sound with any effects pedal? Like a Line 6 for example?
It depends how close you want to get to his sound. This pedal emulates specific pedals, not just specific effects. This fuzz sounds like Gilmour's fuzz, I've never heard another that gets close, and I've played through about twenty of the top brands which my brother went through when we were in a Floyd cover band together, even a bunch which are reissues of pedals Gilmour used from the original companies. Same with the flange, which sounds like a Mistress. But you could get 60-70% there with other brands, so it's a matter of the amount of degrees off you are happy with. If you were going to invest in pedals which would get you as close to Gilmour's sound as the darkside does, you wouldn't be able to get close for the same price.
I thoroughly enjoyed that ,wasn’t expecting too.. brings back flashback of the “window pain “ we use to do,listen to the dark side of the moon .. Nice 👍 it also goes to show you, you don’t need a thousand notes for it to sound impressively Awesome 😎

Really nice, and impressive that it’s all in one pedal. Kudos to the player too who seems to have learned the parts well, and is playing with emotion and verve. I see no reason why in a live context, that this pedal, player, etc... wouldn’t sound awesome.
Well-played! That is definitely the 'Gilmour' sound all in one little box... fantastic!😍👍👍 *EDIT:* 'The Wall' intro at 6:56 gave me goosebumps!!! 😁😍
Don't forget to add a delay pedal after it!
You nailed every single tone. Your playing is tremendous.
Holy shit this sounds great. Well played.
It does sound pretty good but I don't think it sounds like David Gilmore. He has his own sounds coming out of the Guitar. He's a Legend of his self. But not bad. Sounds great.
That playing is spot-on! Very nice tribute.
I need this!!! Who agrees lol
Incredible versatility. I NEED this.
gilmour was so incredibly ahead of his time when it came to mastering futuristic effects, its so damn cool
When you were playing Us and Them I could hear the sax come in, in my head. Haha. Nice work
First off - great playing.
Doc Tari I swear this is the one reasonable argument where it's not just insulting it
Agree with your comment and also Iptomtom's.
Hey quick question from someone very new to this pedal thing, can't you like open it and modify to have 6 little buttons that can be turned on at the same time instead of 2 tiny switches that can only do one thing at a time
Everyone being a harsh critic here probably can't play half of these riffs. Lol it sounds good
Exactly!!
Luis Jimenez it sounds good, no doubt about it, but the demo really doesn’t do the pedal justice. Sometimes, the fuzz or phase seems way too harsh.
We're talking about tone, not about ability
The internet is full of guitar wizards, martial arts experts and political geniuses. But I never meet them in real life 🙃
erictoniaschwab1009 that’s because you don’t see many ppl interested on the guitar, let alone classic rock these days?
I’m amazed there aren’t setups like this for all famous bands. This things sounds great
This man is the closest to having the bending skills plus vibrato at the same time i have ever heard/seen!
And? He says in the description the kit he's using.. I honestly don't know why you're making so much of a fuss.
Shut up dick
Fua scuby, la re vivis
@@matthewcoombs5298 They don't tell you what sounds are coming from the Eventide and what sounds are coming from the Darkside. As such, you don't know what you are listening to. In reality, you are hearing a ton of the Eventide, but without owning the Darkside pedal, you wouldn't realize that.
You don't see that as being a problem in a "demo"? Are you fucking clueless?
Bullshit! You can add some pedals or plug-ins if you like but it won't sound any better.
Watching this stoned rn. The time solo was world class 🙌🏼
Anyone who isn't watching this stoned is missing out
Me too
Sounds about right, coz fuckos like you need drugs to appreciate music, fuckin idiots
Robert P-I real shit 💯
@@davebain7858 exactly
Gilmour in a box awesome
Good luck playing like him
I have been playing guitar for a while and until now I hadn't even considered bending under the other strings! I've always bended them too. Thanks
Sounds fantastic.
I absolutely love this pedal
Motherfuckers in the comments don't know the difference between a similarly and a master track damn it! Just because it's a tiny off tempo or out of tone doesn't mean they don't sound the same! Do you guys think David played 100% the same as the album than he did live on the dark side tour in 72-73?!?! This dude kicks ass and anybody should feel privileged to play with him if they ever get the chance
-from a 17 year old in a small town from Mo.
Daren Dlanous i agree with you
I agree. From a 45+yr musician..
Daren Dlanous you tell em Daren
Nice chops brother! D.G. would be proud.
It sounds like The Wizard of Oz.
5Rounds Rapid i got the reference
I see what you did there...😉
That's too good of a comment
I think I've seen the wizard of Oz on mute more times than regular. The tornado scene with great gig in the sky always gives me chills.
This is how all pedals should be demo'ed. No talking, no muffled shitty sound quality. Just a visual of the pedal, and nice, clear audio. Great demo.
Has to be one of the top 3 or 5 rock guitar solos of all time! And yes; spot on tone! Do comfortably numb!
Dang... Im hearing echo, flanger-phaser, chorus, delay, rotary speaker, dist-overdrive. Is there a noise gate in there too? And they all sound good. This circuit is a hybrid analog + digital mix... correct?
The pigs solo needs a wah wah for simula te the pig Scream
Erick Jimenez a talk box was used in the recording
This "sound" also includes a Talkbox...
@@zacevans1683 Yep. Don't think David has ever used a Wah on record, except for the seagull sounds on Echoes and Is There Anybody Out There.
LOL, it actaully sounds pretty good especially when you played Brain Damage and Pigs, but the dark sound came from the recording engineers and who mastered it. Dark Side of the Moon has to be one of the best mixed and mastered album of all time.
Amazing job ( Ecspecially without using backing tracks ). I bet with backing tracks it sounds just like the Dark Side
Still beautiful, after all these years… love that sound.
I categorize Gilmore in a different category of his own. He literally is a guitar love maker.
Dude screw the pedal I want your playing lol, holy intro batman
6:55 one of the greatest guitar phrasing ever....
I thought I heard wes borland for a moment lol
This video is worth a watch to anyone who likes Pink Floyd even if you don’t give a damn about gear. Beautifully played man.
this thing is expensive but i finally bought it and ive had it for about half a year now and man is it worth every peny you can get so many sounds out of this thing plus it sounds incredible. i find myself turning it on almost every time i play, my favorite way to use it is either a fuzz with a rotary or with a delay but honestly anything you do with this it can sound incredible
Never seen anyone playing so perfect other than Gilmour himself.
The tone is the trick I alwas knew that that is why my friends never sound right but as soon as i get right my first tone I knew it the tone is 95 % of one cover
Yeah, but he cane up with it all - notes and tone!
I don't think it's not only this piece make this great sound.
Yep, hand any guitar with that tone to any old bum and they will immediately start playing like.gilmour
Damn you should do a whole album cover with this you'd get tons of views!
Great stuff. You should add “sorrow” to your repertoire
And Marooned too. And High hopes as well.

Hi Bjorn, I have a Darkside V2 on order, Thank you for the Brilliant demo👍👍👍.
I hope you and your Loved ones are safe and well.
Take care ♥️👍.
Melbourne, Australia.
Really great clip, I bought the pedal … sounds just as amazing.
1:27 so you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it’s sinking!!!
Sound good enough for me 👍
wayne churchill People have to complain. Sounds phenomenal to me.
I can’t tell if it’s the pedal or if the guy playing is just nailing the shit out of DGs parts. Lol. Great playing !!!
Fantastic playing and demo. Best I've come across for the dark side. Hope mr keeley gets to see this.
Rad demo dude, and your strat is pretty sick. Sounds way better than the other demos I've heard for this unit. Bitchin'!
6:13 My Favorite The Wall Medley
How about a lesson showing how to play this stuff?.... Excellent
Heaps of RUclips channel for that, otherwise u can also look at songsterr.com
This was the lesson. Perfect!
i watched this video over and over just for the awesome fucken sound. great playing
I thoroughly enjoyed that ,wasn’t expecting too.. brings back flashback of the “window pain “ we use to do,listen to the dark side of the moon .. Nice 👍 it also goes to show you, you don’t need a thousand notes for it to sound impressively Awesome 😎
Any lower action on that guitar and the strings would be behind the neck
Jeez. I can imagine how the strings used to suffer on each bending. Gilmour is king
Fuzz,reverb,compress and delay
Ah, and chorus
Yes but it would cost much more in the long run on those pedals individually and take up more board space.
@Лоло Козлов yes yes gg
@@BiscuitCannon no money :(
And the answer is? - you bet your bottom dollar it does! What a brilliant review. A Pink Floyd lover - as you clearly are - had to do this. Such an excellent range of sounds covered. I didn't realise this pedal was out there - buying one, defo.
Oh Christ. When Shine On You Crazy Diamond started playing I was blown away. That sounds EXACTLY like the recording so much so that it's astounding. What an absolute monster of a pedal!
Rumor has it that the person who uploaded the video actually had Gilmour play for him. That or he mastered the art of emotion.
Don't you just love rumors? Jeez, brother...
7:06 I can almost hear the “AHHHHHHHH!” In the background lol
Looks like an old guitar. You can see all the spots on the neck you’ve fretted over the years. Sounds brilliant
You pay like 5 grand for that look haha!
That pinch harmonic was well placed! Very nice playing. I like this pedal.
