Oregon Rail Heritage Center 10 Year Anniversary With SP 4449

    The 4449 being put away after the 10 year anniversary event was concluded. Both 4449 and 700 are not likely to run again anytime soon.
    The story I got was this. There is a sharp curve on the track between ORHC and Oaks Park. Oregon Pacific owns the line, not ORHC. The former Oregon Pacific owner passed away. He would repair the curve after the end of each Holiday Express season, once a year. The big 4-8-4's would spread the track too much after multiple uses. The new OP owners are not interested in repairing the curve anymore, but they do have the equipment to do so. Again, this is a story I got from one person, but I will continue to dig for more info.
    For example, Santa Fe 2926 is in a similar position. it is operable, but has nowhere to run.

    That's a shame the new owners aren't interested in letting these engines run down the line.
    I'm supposed to be helping with 190's restoration soon.

    What do u mean like they are unliky to operate anytime soon? Are they being retired?

      Don’t worry, they are not being retired. It seems that 4449 and 700 maybe steamed up for special events. I heard the Holiday Express trains will be using Polson Logging Co. no. 2. Then the 2023 and so on Holiday Express trains will be pulled by their recently acquired Mt. Emily Shay locomotive no. 1 from Primeville, Oregon.

      Sadly yes. The ORHF recently acquired a Shay to replace 4449 and 700 on the Christmas trains.
