SP 4449 Private Charter Runs + Triple Meet/Horn-Whistle Battle w/ UP 96, PNWR 2311

- On July 18th, 2022, Southern Pacific 4449 was chartered to run up the Oregon Pacific Railroad a few times. Some railfans including myself came out for the occasion, and I was invited to stay at the facility to watch switching duties as they cleaned up. While 4449 was moving to head back into it's home, a PNWR manifest showed up with 4 EMD GP locomotives and had a whistle/horn battle with 49, and then the UP 96! It was a fantastic moment with a lot of history being shared!

4449 is my most favorite steam locomotive ever. My grandparents, two uncles, and dad saw her with the American Freedom Train at San Antonio in February 1976. I'm so lucky to see her at Owosso, Michigan for Train Festival 2009.

Update: Supposedly this was the last run of either the 700 or the 4449 on the OPR, as they will be using smaller equipment on the tracks from now on. 4449 may not run for a long time as a result, as it is not yet equipped with PTC for mainline operations. Glad to have caught it while I could, it pays to be crazy!
