    I've upgraded steering wheels in many vehicles. I've mostly kept to OEM upgraded parts (so not aftermarket wheels), but I have done a few re-wrapped OEM wheels too. Since you interact with the steering wheel 100% of the time when driving, I think it's THE best mod you can do if you have an older uninspiring steering wheel. It's also a very easy upgrade to do yourself.

    • @KRTLyfe
      @KRTLyfe  Год назад

      I 100 percent agree with you! I think it’s often overlooked but absolutely one of the best modifications you can make if your steering wheel is lacking. On my Land Cruisers the difference between a leather wrapped wheel and the basic OEM is night and day!

  • @jryalls
    @jryalls 4 года назад +6

    One of those new OEM aftermarket Porsche Headunits with the updated infotainment software would perfect the interior. It’s the thing that dates the interior the most.

    I have the sport wheel in my 997 C2S, but I confess that this “mod” is tempting me. Very nice look indeed. A totally refresh interior and keeping complete Porsche as I see, (and I’m not particularly keen to do mods). But this one looks fantastic and completely “reversible” if you decide to go back to original. Congratulations, well done!

    • @KRTLyfe
      @KRTLyfe  4 года назад +3

      Nelson Angeris thank you! In my humble opinion it is definitely worth it. When you think about it, what part of a car do you touch the most? The steering wheel, therefore it should be an awesome steering wheel. It makes a massive difference.

    One of the best mods I did on my guards red 997.1 C2S. 991.2 GT3 wheel, with red stitching and red 12 o’clock marker. For some reason, seems to make the car more fun to drive. I can’t figure out why. Btw, the 997.2 fitment are different and not as easy to switch out.

    • @KRTLyfe

    • @PaulSeales
      @PaulSeales 4 года назад +1

      @@KRTLyfe Same as yours but it was already non multi function as I don't have that on my current wheel. All I had to do was remove the paddles and buy the GT4 shroud for the rear to cover the holes left where the paddles were. I've kept them and will take the wheel off the car when I sell it eventually for a 991 PDK and will likely put it on there. :-)

      All done. Airbag was a pig to get in and had read on rennlist that sometimes you have to shave off a tiny bit of the white clips to get it to clip in properly. Took my time and did this and it pops in perfectly now. Looks and feels SO much better. 👍🏻

    I agree completely. The two things that must be right in any nice car interior, the steering wheel, and the windshield. It begins here, next is seat, carpet, and floor mat condition and appearance. If the radio is old tech or just not the right vintage, that also brings the interior down a couple of notches. Your video is clear, concise, well produced and helpful. Your car looks great. Thanks for providing this information! I have a new wheel for my 09 997.1 Turbo, and will tackle it soon.

      Long story short, when I was swapping the wheels out I locked the steering column by mistake. So I put the power back on to unlock it with the airbag disconnected. That triggered the Airbag warning. I used my Icarsoft to reset it myself. Literally takes a few seconds. Yes my horn works, I should’ve included footage of that. Maybe I should do a quick update video of that. Mine was plug and play because I didn’t try to activate multifunction. Hope this information helps!

      You cant reset an Airbag light by disconnecting the battery. You have to use a P car specific reader.

    • @marcducati
      @marcducati 3 года назад +1

      @@KRTLyfe No you can't, indeed. The battery disconnect is to avoid having residual current spring a fault code when you unplug the airbag. My problem was actual worse. When I changed my wheel the light wouldn't go out with the PIWIS and I couldn't modify the codes in the POSIP. I took out the airbag module and took it appart with a friend who is an electronics engineer. There where two resistances that had fried and had triggered a crash log (unrelated to the wheel change just coinsidence). I ordered a second hand unit, one that had a crash log, took that appart, unsoldered the memory chip from my unit for the car info, copied it into the computer and cleared the crash log, took out the memory chip from the new unit, dumped the clean info into the chip of the replacement unit and soldered it back in. Installed and cleared the codes. Light went out and it works great. And I love the new wheel as much as I hate the old one. The reaper cost me 40 euros....

      There is a lot of information pertaining to this exact thing on many of the Porsche Forums. I recommend doing your due diligence in finding specific information for your application. I do remember during the research phase of my experience , reading something about using DURAMETRIC to “turn on” certain features. I also remember reading that for certain functions to work you need a electronic adapter device. I don’t recall the exact terminology for the adapter but I’m sure you will be able to find the information you need on the P car forums.
