- Here is some progress on my Liberty Scrap Piecing Project, inspired by Karen at Just Get It Done Quilts. She makes really bright and joyful strips like this. The Liberty fabric is more subtle and incredibly beautiful. Using it in this way means I will never waste a single scrap! But what to make with them? Not sure yet, but just making them is enough for now!
I have a little shop where you can find the things I create here in my cottage in Northumberland, plus some treasures from my creative friends. Kate, so sorry about Norma’s loss. What a lovely and loving cat she was. I so enjoy your channel. My mum was born in Scotland and you put me in mind of my Scottish Nana whose name was Agnes like your granddaughter. I feel so at home visiting your channel and you are a good virtual friend for me as I too live alone with my miniature dachshund and am a quilter. Thanks for enriching my life from afar.

I just found this channel on RUclips and feel like I’m sitting on the green sofa with you and Kate! I live in Michigan in the US and up until two years ago had a beautiful cat named Enzo Girl who was my companion and just like Kate’s Norma was my everything!
I love when you mention other RUclips channels like Just Get it Done and Missouri Star!
It’s so fun to have ladies around the world able to sit on the lime green couch together! I love hearing about your weather and what keeps you busy. I also enjoy Karen with just get it done and Missouri star ladies. Thank you for sharing!
I couldn't have said it any better Julie!👋
I have never made a quilt. Yet. But the thought of hexagon quilt is very intriguing. My granddaughter has started taking pictures of the winter sky at sunset wherever she goes mostly the sky blue pink sky. So the quilt may be in the sky blue pink colors. Thank you for sharing.
it IS great to hear you tell us about what’s going on! i love listening your conversation with us- beautiful piano too- happiness for me with you
I absolutely LOVE your thought of not finishing anything in a hurry and starting something else new. You’re my kind of sewist.
I’m late to this party too Kate! Thank you for explaining leaders & Enders! I never realized the process was to end up with a 4 patch! I only found your channel about 2 months ago and have enjoyed watching your videos! Thank you thank you thank you! And I love your kitties! All the best to you.
Agnes’ quilt looks like a Monet painting. So lovely Kate. Linda, PA
Yes! Has always reminded me of Water Lillies.
@@karenshanks8127 yes me too
Monet
I was thinking the same thing! I am itching to start one of my own!
It is outstanding- great for Agnes all of her life💕
This is an amazing idea!!! I am watching you forever while busy in the house. My grand daughter of 4 years joined me now. She come to me 2 days a week and this morning ask me when are we going to watch you!
“Just one more” 😂 I’m making your EPP 1” hexagons and sew with the TV and the sewing flies by! Thank you for the education and laughter! ❤ Love and light
Kate, you're definitely a woman after my own heart. I always have so many irons in my fire at the same time, it keeps life more interesting! Enjoy and God Bless!!
Hi 👋 how are you doing today
I have a super clump of snowdrops in their full glory, bless them 🇮🇪
It is so neat that Cat Rita is taking over Norma’s place - and she is doing such a good job! Agnes’ quilt is gorgeous! Hello to everyone on the lime green sofa!
Hello Suzee. The last homely house is such a wonderful gathering place. I'm hoping that you and your family are safe and healthy. Actually, this is my hope for everyone on the lime green sofa. Have a wonderful day everyone!
Rita is a worthy successor to Kate's lap. I am sure Norma approves.
Hello to you!
@@judithburke1539 I had that sofa growing up! but sadly my mother got rid of it in the early 90's. Even tho it was in perfect condition. I wish so bad that it was still in the family.
Cat Rita😍 taking over for Norma. She must love when you have this long lovely "conversations" with just her!
Enjoy watching you on Sundays!!! Your use of color is inspiring. When I have very skinny little bits of fabric I put them in a suet cage along with hair from my hairbrush and let the birds use them in their nests. I got the idea when I looked into a nest and saw a little piece of ribbon woven into the nest. Have a great week!
I do the same Diane ,but I do make sure my hair is in short pieces. I was horrified a couple of years ago to watch a camera in a blue tits box .the parent got human hair wrapped around its foot. It became trapped, human hair so strong .fortunately the owner of box managed to go in and sort it .I have been very cautious ever since ,I dread to think what harm I have caused previous to seeing the footage. I think it's still on utube .?
I had a beautiful German Spitz with long ginger fur, when I brushed her throughout the year I kept it in a box and in the Spring I pegged it to the branches for the nesting birds. Might think of doing the same with tiny fabric scraps xx
Great idea our birds need more things as in the cities there have to go far to get items to build. Thanks i will do so too.
I am going to do that too!!! Great idea. I will make sure they are short pieces. 💜
So sorry for Norma!s loss. I am glad for Cat Rita. It is October 2024 and we just had a few days of a full moon and the weather is changing from cold to warm. Soon I will be enjoying the colors of your quilts will be my comfort 😊
I would save all the tiny scraps for Agnes to play with when she comes over. Children can up with the most amazing ideas for things that we adults would never think of.
Hi 👋 how are you doing today
I love your accent n the way you do your things.
Love your videos
The scraps can be a filler for a cat or dog bed, if not for yourself or family then for the humane society. Something washable. It's so great having you back on track doing a dozen projects at once.
What an excellent idea! Thank you! I’m adding that to my list of useful projects 🎉
Lovely Rita , Rita may just be the star of today! Awwh she's a pretty cat!
Agnes’ quilt is magical! So interesting that Rita has stepped in for Norma.
Hi 👋 how are you doing today i really love your comment.
I just love Karen at Get It Done Quilts. I think she is very funny. She has great facial expressions.
I love that you have so many projects going at one time, something to fill a time slot or a mood. That is just how I have my house arranged. Depending on where I am at the moment I am surrounded with color and texture and things to create. How lucky are we!!!
Hi 👋 how are you doing today
Oh you have to have many projects; they say that a change is as good as a rest, after all! So sometimes I crochet a doily or darn a sock or repair a bedspread that got a tear in it, and I refer to cotton dishcloths as my 'palate-cleanser' when I need a break from a more-challenging project.
At least we'll never be bored, eh?
Hello from Ontario, Canada. I’m sitting on the green couch with a cup of tea. I love visiting you and your family, animals and the cottage. I miss both your fur babies. Cora would be a nice name for your next cat. I try to do many of your ideas but running out of space to store them. It’s February 26. 2024 here today. Take care see you tomorrow .love carol
I also have several projects going at once! I just can’t help myself. I am also working on using my scraps.
Agnes’s quilt is so beautiful. The way the colors flow into each other, it’s like a lifeform, like a coral reef under the transparent waters of a tropical sea.
I'm thinking that you would be able to write beautiful poetry with your descriptive writing.
Miss you and Anna quilting together.
I love Karen at Just get it done. Just started quilting and I really love your channel too , it’s like having a friend ❤
I'm from the same mold; order from chaos. I'm happiest when half a dozen or so articles are laid out in my workroom at the same time. When I get an idea, I act on it and make room from another 'in progress' piece. Cheers!
Oh Kate, I’ve recently found your channel and I’m so thrilled!!! Your content is amazing and I dearly love that you are you.
Truly love the way your process and thought patterns are so genius!!!
Hugs from Ohio, USA
I don't do much sewing these days, my machine is hinky. But there is something so cathartic (is that the right word?) about watching you sew away and have a good chit chat - especially these days with all the crazy noise from the politicians and other mind boggling goings-on.
Thank you Kate, your house is such a wonderful retreat, for mind and soul!
I love watching you sew, you’re so kind and relaxing and I’m a huge cat lover. My cat, Missy does everything with me. Thank you for being yourself and Iove your creativity and Karin too.
Sorry to hear about Norma, but your new Cat Rita seems to be settling in. It is so nice to see all that you are doing
I usually turns my radio up nigh lol one more one more there should be a song for that yes scraps please i lol ways watches Jenny’s videos have fun snow storm on the way for three days have a good week hugs to Norma from Newfoundland Canada
Agnes's quilt is so beautiful.
Just found you! So down to earth and ‘homely’ I’m addicted so will see you soon. What a lovely place to chill out and do your thing. Xxx
Hi how are you doing today.
Welcome to the Lime Green Sofa! #LGS
I just found this site also and I absolutely love watching/listening to it! So relaxing!
Red and white quilt with red quilting threat yippee 😁 a happy quilt.
The quilt for Agnes is absolutely stunning 🤩
Hi 👋 how are you doing today
Hey Kate, those little scraps are great for follage quilts- art- other quilters like Art for them- beautiful Portaurs or landscapes
Portraits( sp) are beautiful portraits with a huge scraps are beautiful-Save them or give them collage fibers like use scraps for Art- I appreciate that “stuff” of scraps😂Sandi Myer, Kate! Thank you!
I ❤ how thrifty Kate is with her Liberty fabric, or any fabric for that matter!
Totally, "Waste not, want not!!"💕
I can’t keep my eyes off Agnes’ quilt. Tnx.
Agnes’s quilt is a stunner- just beautiful!
Hi 👋 how are you doing today!
For the last two years I have bought no fabric all I have done is make quilt tops with scraps and crumbs Very satisfying
Always great to have a little visit with you.I so enjoy hearing about all of the things you do!So many beautiful colors in Agnes's quilt!
Hi Kate from northern Minnesota USA. Been surreptiousky watching you and your cats. You inspire me in endless ways. Seeing you deal with your scraps touches my heart. You've given me tons of ideas on how to use and use up all those tiny bits. Enough for the moment. Love your channel. Feel as though I've known you for years.
I went to the kitchen tonight - it was so bright that I thought the outside light was on - no, it was the moon! it's full here this week in Southern California and if I get up early enough, I'm told that we can see Venus really brightly in the sky just before the predawn light begins. Since I've been waking at ridiculous times anyway, I hope to remember tomorrow. Loads of brilliant ideas today Kate. It's fun to see you excited again. All the best. I'm off to sleep now.
I am also So Cal and a big fan of Kate.
Pat Sloan sews 2.5” blocks together. She has a beautiful red and white quilt from them. She has lots of sew alongs and free patterns. She is on u-tube. How is Anna? Would love to hear more about her learning to quilt. Love your videos!!! Thank you Kate!!
the quilt project is ongoing and will take us a few months - she is a very busy girl! xxx
I hear you! I am the boss of me and I dance to my own drum now. It is our fab imaginations that keep our mind seeing and feeling and engaging in the delight of creation. From almost anything. How blessed are we? Take care.
I am the boss of me!! I love that! xxx
Good to see you Kate! And Rita too, she makes things homey❣️it’s good to have multiple projects going, keeps things lively during the winter and keeps our spirits up. 🐈 so glad your feeling better 🥰
A big beautiful red and white checkerboard quilt is really pretty. Pat Sloan made one and it was really nice. Luv n stuff. Delia, Oreo, and me. 😺🐈👵🥰🧸
I love your Sunday afternoon videos! Please do continue to come up with creative things to do with scraps, I love challenging myself to keep as much out of the landfills as possible.
So sorry for your loss in Norma, never an easy thing.
Hi Kate. Yes I did mention that selling the scraps would find a lot of takers. So I will definitely be on the lookout because I most definitely want a fish 🐠 and chips package of scraps. Thank you so much for taking the time to make the packages. Ludmila
Hi 👋 how are you doing today
There are so many ways to lay out the strips of strips. Turn them into blocks, cut diaganally into HSTs, use them for borders or sashings, alternate directions of square blocks of them like Rail Fence blocks or checkerboard. Yes, a worthy project. ))) Pet all the kits for us.
Agnes's quilt is beautiful! Something I'm sure she'll treasure forever. Before you blink she'll be sewing with you and starting on her first quilt!
I made a queensize quilt with the method Jenny uses for scraps. It is all batiks because I could never part with my scraps and whenever I saw a good sale on batik fabric I was compelled to "build my stash". I was making and selling tote bags at the time and saved every scrap. I did use some fat quarters when I realized that I was going to actually make a quilt - I like you need more than one project going - and the scrap blocks were my fill in. I did cheat and buy a 1/2 yard of yellow batik when I ran out of yellow scraps very early on. I backed it with linen and it is on my bed summer and winter it always cheers me up but if it gets too bright I flip it to the natural linen side for a bit. I'm going to start the leaders and enders - I always just used scrap pieces and sewed randomly just as easy to sew a quarter inch and make it productive! Thank you I'd never seen this before.
Hi 👋 how are you doing today
I have not sewn for well over 10 years but what a huge difference you tube must have been. I bought many many books but it was a very isolated hobby then, little sharing of tips etc. at the time of course it was the norm, unless you were able to meet up with other like minded stitches. I’m finding a new excitement thanks to you and you tube.
Kate, your hexi quilt looks like a painting! I love those colors. Always a pleasure to see what you're up to. I look forward to watching each week... so relaxing and inspiring.
Hi 👋 how are you doing today
I too loved the crumb quilt video by Missouri Star. This is my rendition.
Loved this, Kate! I think Norma is not only missed by us.
My black cat Lucky is sitting next to me on my sewing cabinet. Great company,!
Hi Kate, so lovely to see you this morning. Just love the ideas you’re giving us re those dastardly scraps. You’re looking so well now. Love Agnes’ quilt, it’s so pretty in every possible way. Like a beautiful garden. 😍🇦🇺
Those strips would make wonderful pieced borders for a quilt
I watched one of your older videos where you just reached 1000 subscribers. It’s so amazing that you now have over 50,000 subscribers. Way to go Kate!
I can't believe it ! it is so surprising! xxx lovely to have you all here xxx
I’m so very glad to have discovered you, dear lady, as I’m piecing cloth, reading British cozy mysteries (G M Malliet’s St.Just and Max Tudor series are a delight) and adjusting to the physical departure last month of my cat companion of 17 years. Betty (named for the character Rosemary Clooney played in White Christmas) was a beautiful white/calico, an elegant, self-possessed, affectionate, comical mystery being.
At age 64, I’ve said goodbye to so many beloveds - people, cats and dogs, trees, places. What keeps me nourished in the day-to-day flow of life is the sense of simple tasks…caring for home and garden, walking in Nature, making soup, doing creative, expressive projects with organic materials, and especially, enjoying presentations like yours.
Books/info/instructions are plentiful, but channels like yours bring a sense of shared pleasures and working through what we humans have done by hand for countless generations…such a gift to my heart and soul.
Here I sit, in central Pennsylvania, delighted to have you ‘in the room’ with me. You’re nice company. Having ongoing (often lifelong) pastimes is even more beneficial now we can connect through youtube and other venues. We can keep a personal rhythm of solitude and sharing. I love it, as I’m not going to run into you on a walk or out on errands, yet we overlap here, and it gladdens my heart.
My motto in recent weeks is, “O-bla-di, O-bla-da” , shorthand, of course, for
Life Goes On.
🙏✌️✨🌱🌺☀️❄️💕🎶🌎😊 to all who come together in kindness, creativity and caring for what surrounds us.
I never understood 'leaders and enders' so thank you for that. I love your idea of tying up your garden posies with the fabric strings. Won't need a scare crow. I get so excited when I see you've posted. Seems you're back to your old self. Glad to have you drop by the lime green couch for a visit, and giggle with us for a bit. Much love. Lynn
I love having extra projects on the side. Sometimes I just need to do some mindless sewing. Enders, scrappy fabric making and the ticker tape sewing.
I love Agnes’s quilt. It is a work of art.
I’ve seen where you can take longer scraps and hang them on tree limbs and birds add them to their nests. Making a pretty nest for all to see!
Agnes’s quilt is my favorite project of your. It is beautiful and I can hardly wait to see the final finish.
It's always fun to play with other people's scraps! In my quilt guild we occasionally have trash to treasure raffles for scraps, sewing room cleanouts, and UFIs
Fumble fingers! UFO's. I try to keep my stash sorted into containers of random strips, specific width strips, etc but there's always a bin of saving for "someday" as if I'll suddenly decide what to do with them. I'm a little older than you and have much more fabric than "somedays" left. I wish we could all do a regional lime green sofa destash pass-along. I Love your scrappy style!
I'm smiling over here while listening and watching you enjoy the bonus material. I've come to realize and embrace the fact that I have way more enjoyment and creativity when I have a pile (or piles) of bits and pieces. Making fabric. If I lived closer to your part of the world, I would most definately shop your bits and pieces. Happy sewing this week, Kate. Agnes is going to love her quilt. A lifetime of exploring the fabrics and the love that you have created for her. Priceless. Happy stitching.
Your cat and mine do not care what we are doing they just want a pet. Lovely quilt you are making. God bless you both.
I am so happy to see you sewing again. Looking forward to spring and seeing you out in the garden! Also looking forward to Anna's quilting project!
Me again, I've just come acroosss the taking care videos, I, m at number 3, and I so wish I had known about your channel at that time. I've had such a hard time with this covid madness and have become a recluse as I suffer from depression and anxiety. If I had had these little videos of kind words they would have helped no end. anyway I, m watching them now and I too have gor through it by keeping my hands busy knitting and gardening which is my other passion when the weather suits. So thank you Kate xx
An idea for your strip piecing..some time ago I made a quilt for my sister using strip sets similarly to those you are making. I sewed strips together to make a center square, then surrounded it with white. The next round was strip set, again followed by white. I continued this way until it was the size I wanted. You could, of course, use any color you wanted to replace the white I used. The binding was also scrappy. You could alternate your pink and blue if you wanted. Have lots of fun quilting!
I like your idea,it sounds lovely.
As I sit here knitting calmly Missy sitting on the arm of my chair waiting to be stroked watching you sew I, m at peace with the world. I've been going through other videos and came across taking care 9 where you talked about knitting technique. I knit quickly and do so by tucking my right needle under my arm, the left loose, I hardly have to move my fingers as I wind the wool over. It might be called Irish knitting but I, m scottish and this is how my mum taught me. I probably haven't explained it very well and I, m not confident enough to make a video of how I knit though I've been knitting for 65 ish years. Xx
I love seeing cat Rita. She's doing a good thing, little sweetie. The music was beautiful. Love from the snowy Massachusetts coast.
That lovely Rita (Mewter Maid) is a scene stealer. She is adorable. On your recommendation, i watched the Missouri Star Janny and daughters video. The girls definitely did not understand the assignment, but made some lovely quilts anyway and answered the age old question, 'what do i do if i don't have enough crumbs." Jenny knew the brief (since she probably wrote it) and showed us a beautiful crumb quilt. Segregating and sewing crumbs into sheets of color or value is the one big tip i took away from this whole journey. I figure i will need darkest darks, lightest lights, yellows to oranges, greens to blues, reds to purples. I also think the 10 x 10 size is nice because they fit in a standard Ziploc or file.
I do love Karen from justgetitdonequilts as well. And you've re-inspired me to continue the strip sets and I love the idea of the small squares for leaders and enders. And last but not least , Agnes' quilt is so lovely can't wait to see it completed
So missing reg vids on crafting from you thankyou …this is a bright part of the day ☕️🇦🇺
I’ve always got three or four projects on the go at once but I thought I was the only one! 😂 Agnes’s quilt is truly a work of art, I love it. Thankyou Kate as always for a great video. Xx
What a gorgeous quilt, thank you and Agnes too
I saw that same Missouri star video you mentioned and I’m doing the same as Jenny with my scraps. Very addictive!
Hi Kate, it’s great you have these scarps and make an Art Quilt Or Make a Blue quilt with landscape- lots of ideas- I’m so glad you don’t thru them away- ❤️💕Thanks! - another idea is a Milleforie Quilt -
Good Morning love it when you are sewing it is so fun to watch you do it with a quilt.
Hello Kate …. So for the loss of Norma. I love your channel. You always have so much going on with the quilts!! I could never keep all those up and going. Beautiful patches and blocks everywhere!❤
I’ve listened along whilst making my 10” scrappy blocks. I started these last November and was delighted when Jenny of MSQC was doing the same and now you too Kate. I decided I’d have an early night but just couldn’t resist putting some more pieces together. It’s very addictive!
Hi 👋 how are you doing today
Your scrap strips on your paper would make fantastic keyboard style border
Hello Kate ~ Your projects have kept you company this winter. I noticed Agnes's quilt on the wall. It is looking spectacular. I finally bound my gnome Christmas table runner. The days I would pick up my granddaughters from school I would sit in my vehicle and sew (or read). I found the natural lighting was better for my eyes. I took another sewing class and I am currently working on Cathedral Windows. It will be a decorative pillow for my younger granddaughter. I have decided that the smaller projects are more likely to get done. (eventually) I can do a bit when I feel more in the mood to sew and feel as if I am accomplishing something. I guess I feel as if the finale is near! Do have a good week. Stay safe and healthy.
Greetings from Pennsylvania USA! Love Agnes's quilt in progress...gorgeous colors!!
Great idea for the fish 🐠 and chips scraps packages. Will definitely be on the lookout. Thank you for taking the time to make the packets.
Hello fro derp snow Canada 🇨🇦 hope to snow drop soon i hope!! Thank you for your great visit. Yes scraps got to love them! Thanks great ideas. Anita hi to everyone LGS.
Hello Kate, I’m missing my sewing room as we sold our house and are not yet settled into our new home. I enjoy watching your videos so much and yes! Feel so fortunate to have so many fine quilting videos to watch on you tube - you among them! Thank you for sharing! ❤️
Love your Rabbiting great expression.
Great Job you are doing. Winter is good for that.
I miss your Chickens and Goose and what about a late Winter tour of your Gardens. 💜S
Oh, yes! Looking forward to all the this-and-that you have in store for us 😍
hi there i am a 48 year old mother of two girls 21 and 17 and a brand-new grandmother of a beautiful 4 month old baby girl. I just wanted to say thank you for being on you tube i really enjoy watching your channel. If I had the money to help support your channel I would but with my MS I cant work and money is a real problem any way i enjoy watching you because you are so real and you remind me of my mother who is no longer with us so when I start missing her a lot I turn you on so thank you. and because I have gotten back to sewing and quilting my 17 year old has gotten in to it, But now I need to replace my old machine but anyway thank you so much
You could also use a few scraps as filler in your Christmas boxes…or other shipping items. Very creative with so many ideas already!
Awesome 👌 you're an inspiration to all....doesn't matter how long it takes to finish just so a project keeps moving forward 😊
OH , they would make a beautiful reversable shopping hand bag ! Can't wait to see what you create !
50 thousand folks who have similar interests to mine. So nice in this sometimes confusing world. Thank you so very much for leading the charge!!
Love Agnes’ quoilt! The colors are soooo beautiful put together. It will be an heirloom for sure 💜💙💚
Really enjoyed your company - for the first time - had a good laugh on another one of your videos, then you ask why we buy more material when we still have some.
Love from SOUTH AFRICA. LOVE JENNY AND THE GIRLS TOO.
Thank you Kate, that was enjoyable. I too use leaders and enders and have a container full. Not sure what I’m going to do with them yet. See you on the LGS. Cheers from Melbourne.
Hi 👋 how are you doing today i really love your comment.
The tiny squares you could make pins for jackets.. you held it up and gave me the idea.
