Yes, thanks for putting into such sweet words. Sitting here two years later and tearing up, all by myself, pulled by your loss, and my own. Nothing on earth like a precious mum. Love you, Mom. :)
Hi dear friends, on the LGS! Let’s all gather around and give Kate a comforting hug. This unpacking of the suitcases, must have been so bittersweet. We love you, Kate.
Kate is so strong. I would have been a bellering sack of sadness. Kate is strong woman and great inspiration. I truly admire her and she is like my mom. She gets an enormous amount of work done.
Your Mom's sewing was amazing. I know you love them very much. My Mom left me her gold thimble she used and her dressmaker scissors with a note " Remember me". ;Brings tears to my eyes whenever I hope it to look inside.
Kate I have been sat here in tears watching this. What exquisite quilt tops. It will be an honour to help you finish your Mum's beautiful work. Sending love and gentle quilty hugs I lost my Mum 6 months ago so know how hard that was for you. Can't wait to see you with them in a few weeks time to discuss patterns.
Oh my goodness your Mother did such beautiful work! Hugs! This tugged at my heart... the scent of her sewing room. 😢 My Grandmother's scent was Dove soap! They are always with us! What a treasure you have!!
Hi Kate, I love how you and your mother have made quilt tops prolifically. I’ve made a few over the years too and have more in my cupboard that will be quilted one day😂 Was wonderful watching you unfold, pin, name each of your mothers quilts left in the last suit cases.
Iam sure you won't see this but I want to thank you for the memories I spent all my summers with my Gram I am 63 years old she has been gone now for 23 years She thought me my first stich " Blind stich" Boy do I miss her Spending all my summers on her farm THANKS FOR THE BEAUTIFUL MEMORIES 😊
Oh, Kate. What a beautiful legacy your mum left you. I'm a quilter, and my mom was also a quilter. I inherited her last quilt squares and fabric that she was working with when she passed away. It took me a long time to be able to touch it and work on it because I missed her so much. But, like you finally opening your red suitcases, I came to a time that I was ready. I finished her quilt by hand because that was what she was doing. That quilt stays folded across the foot of my bed now. I take it off each night and put it on a chair and put it back every morning. I love running my hands across it as I place it on the bed. It's such a tangible representation of the bond of love we had for each other and the craft of quilting that we both shared. Your quilts tops are beautiful! Thank you for sharing those lovely treasures with us. The pictures at the end of the video of your mum and you are priceless, too. Love to you, Kate.
I was thinking that, too! It will be fun to see how the quilts get distributed later. Will your family members get to pick, or will you decide for each... or some combination? It's wonderful, however that part of things happens.
Your mother will be thrilled to know that each quilt will be finished and given to family members. Even more special now. Sorry for you loss. I lost my mom 2 years ago.
Oh Kate, sending you a very big tight hug as you opened your suitcases and went thru your mum's quilts. It's like opening a diary. I too love hexagons and sighed out loud as you unfolded the quilt squares and trim. All the quilts are beautiful and filled with so much love. I bet your mum was putting them aside for gifts. I like to piece rather an quilt. It's like putting a puzzle together. And, I also knit. Socks are my most favorite. So I am feeling a connection to you and your mom. Thank you for sharing this most precious unboxing with us all.
My mother passed away in 2007. I’m still finishing some of the work she started. I asked her once why not finish a project before starting another. Her reply was if I don’t finish them, you will. My brother and sister has benefited along with my boys and their cousins. It has all been a labor of love, for all the things she taught me.
what a wonderful connection to your mum, sad, but joyful at the same time. My mum made a quilt for me when I was a toddler, she passed away when I was 14 & the quilt is one of the few things I still have. I landed up teaching myself to quilt last year so I could repair it and now have made several quilts for friends and have even set up a little online store. All thanks to my mum's quilt.
This made me cry. Your mom made such beautiful quilts . She loved the hexagon quilts too!!! 💜💜💜 I confess I over think quilts and my mom who is 77 makes 2 quilts while I'm beginning my first. I am so excited we get to go to Scotland. I have always wanted to see Scotland. What a precious mom and you still have your dad. I used to make lots of everything else and my mom convinced me to make just 1 quilt and so I did. I actually picked the Bear Paw pattern and made all the blocks and passed it to my sister. I said I made the blocks but you can set the together and quilt them on your machine. When she brought it back, I was bitten by the bug and many years later I'm still sewing. My kids tell me they will fight over my quilts when I pass. 😁😁😁 I fill up cabinets with quilts and I have them up on walls as well. I should label them maybe now with who is to get them. This brightened my day ! Happy week Kate. 💐 love and hugs.
Hello Kate. Another lovely video Kate. What lovely memories of your Mum and her stunning quilts. It must have been hard for you, opening your suitcase for the first time. Can see that you have inherited your Mum's amazing skills. how proud you must feel. just like your Red scrappy quilt, they will end up Absolutely Gorgeous Kate. Thank you for sharing Kate. :-) :-) xx
Thank you for sharing this emotional and sentimental journey of your Mother's quilt tops. You have me tearing up as you speak so lovingly of your Mother. How wonderful that the two of you shared the same passion and that you will finish and gift the quilts so the rest of your family can wrap themselves in her love. I appreciate your videos so much, I love your home, your cats and your gentle, easy nature. Cheers from across the pond in Canada.
Kate, you really were so lucky to have a Mother that you could relate to. I learned EVERYTHING from my Grandmother. I miss "Granny" every day as I grew up at her house. Can't wait to see how these quilts look when they are done. She is watching you. ✌🏻❤️
How wonderful to have so many of your mom’s quilt tops! It must have felt like she was right there with you when you were getting them out of the suitcases and hanging them up. What a wonderful opportunity to finish something she started! I’m a quilter but the only craft my mom did was tatting. She hasn’t done any tatting for quite a few years now but I will treasure all the tatted edged hankies and doilies she’s made for me in the past. I know you’ll enjoy working with every one of those quilt tops. And, I can’t wait until we all go to Scotland with you!!! Thank you for sharing them with us! 🥰
It broke my heart that I wasn't able to keep the quilt-tops that my husband's mother and grandmother made. We sold them at a yard sale. I imagine someone finishing them and loving them. Your mother's quilts are stunning.
Beautiful quilts from yr momma. My granny quilted...I make quilts..its my passion....keep special ones for me and give to family and good friends. I have 3 going now with 4 more in my mind and on paper. I'm so glad you have yr mums quilts. What a treasure!!!
WOW! I lost my mom 9 years ago, and I haven’t been able to quilt since. So, I picked up my crochet again, and started a charity. I make shawls and give them to women battling illnesses. I give them in memory of my mom. Watching you go through that amazing treasury of quilts made me cry. So much beautiful work. And, love the photos of your mum with her wonderful work. Thank you for sharing. God bless you sweetie.
You have given us a precious gift, sharing your mum’s unfinished quilts with us. Thank you. What a treasure you have to finish for your family! Dear Kate, your generosity of spirit instructs and challenges us as we watch. ♥️
Thank you, Kate. Your mom was incredibly talented just like you. The apple didn't fall far from the tree. I appreciate you sharing her work with us, how moving and lovely it all is. It is hard to go through a parent's things after they're gone. She would be so proud of you.
Your mum was a prolific quilter. That must’ve been so hard to see them. Very emotional. She did beautiful work. What a legacy. You’ve got your work cut out for you Kate. Your dad will love the socks. Very emotional for me to see you today. Love from Australia.
That was so touching to watch you open all your Mum's quilts. They were lovely and such a blessing to you and your family to have them. Looking forward to going to Scotland with you virtually to see the quilter. Thanks for sharing this moment with us.
What an honour to be on the LGS as you open these special suitcases. Your Mum was very talented, I particularly love the heart quilt. It must have taken some gumption to look inside, thank you for sharing and I'm looking forward to our trip to Scotland! Sending hugs, Jo xx
I’m a quilter and I absolutely loved this video. What a treat to see these beautiful tops made by your mum. How lucky are you to have such legacies to pass on to your family.
So special! Ach, bitter sweet but so beautiful....to run your hands over your mum's work.....and carry on her work......to smell her sewing room again....... I have a huge lump in my throat. Thank you so much for sharing something so personal and glorious with us. XXX
Hi Kate . I've been very moved by this video . How wonderful that you have these things . My own Mum stopped sewing many years before she died and I have 1 unfinished embroidered table cloth. Which I still haven't finished . Someone once asked me why I had nothing that belonged to my Mum . I replied I have . I have fourty years of memories , and they belong to me and Mum. How wonderful to have these quilt tops and even the part finished top ....I quite understand why you have let some time pass and thank you so much for sharing it with us x
I’m not surprised you are feeling overwhelmed! What a sweet inheritance she has left for you. When you think that your mama’s hands were the last to touch those quilts and the smell of her sewing room. Oh. My. Goodness. My mama has been gone for 21 years and this nearly brought me to tears. Enjoy every minute of this process. I know you will. Hugs to you.
I feel tremendously honoured that you would share opening your mother's suitcases and displaying her work to us all. Beautiful beautiful! Thanks ever so much. I will look forward to seeing her work completed. Again, thank you.
Your mom must have been an amazing woman; she created such beauty in her quilts. I truly enjoyed seeing all of them. Thank you for sharing...................
Oh wow! You are just pinning up the first quilt and already I am blown away by it’s beauty! What an emotional and beautiful journey through your Mum’s work.
This must have been a bittersweet exercise for you,so thank you for sharing it.What a wonderful legacy!Blessed are the children of quiltmakers, for they shall inherit the Quilts!
Hello my dear! I am Katrin from Germany, so pls excuse my bad english... I am 61 and since a few month in kind of a deep black hole. I just lost my happyness to life. I sewed my whole life long am actually love it, but for the last month it didn't seem to make sense to me anymore. Now I was so lucky to find your Channel and with that a new goal in my life. I never quilted before, but i yearn to do IT now. Thank you for your inspiration and most of all for you beeing so sympatical - it makes me believe, that we know each other already for quite a time and it really let me feel your Joy for live and your Love for quilts. Many thanks for all!!! ❤
What a beautiful way to share your mother with us. I love each quilt, they were so very different. And the fact that family will get these quilt is so special. I love the one you called pink and cream. I hope you will show us how to do that quilt someday. I would love to make it. Brava Kate!
What a lovely legacy Mum left you. You were awfully brave to open this on camera, having never seen them before. There must have been a flood of emotion for you involved in this job. Isn’t it wonderful she left quilts for the littlest ones coming along and one for everyone else to wrap up in. Almost like a lovely hug to warm you, from Mum and Grandma and Great Grandma! Priceless...can’t the string quilt just be turned and used the other way? It would be a single bed size..or maybe just perfect for the tree house. I think the hexagon one will be absolutely lovely when done...i would love a closer look at the border.
Your ability to “reverse construct” your Mum’s quilts is wonderful. Can you tell I am watching the replay and reacting as you go. Lol. What a joy this is to watch.
Thank you. What a wonderful video. The quilt tops are amazing. Each quilt will make an excellent keepsake for each family member. Hope you will do another video showing us the finished quilts.Thank you again xx
I don't normally comment but watching your emotions whilst sorting your Mums beautiful quilts made me quite tearful. Lovely memories, lots of love & smiles. It made me think of my lovely Mum 💗 I'm sure your Mum will be looking down on you ,cheering you on! Take care Hun x 🤓
Thank you SO much for sharing this Kate! Christy mentioned gathering around and giving you a comforting hug and I agree. This had to be so emotional for you - I could feel it, and it's just amazing to see all your mum's love that was put into those absolutely gorgeous quilts! What a lovely gift for the family - each to have a quilt from your mum - with your final finishing! Big hugs, I'm glad you opened the suitcases and I'm glad we were all there with you - sending love. xx
A lovely legacy for your family. Definitely hand quilt the heart quilt. I thought of Agnes when I saw it. Perhaps her mum could do a few stitches or bind it and it would be a three generations gift 💕
I love the cascading framed hearts quilt too. Applique is definitely time-consuming, so I agree that if Kate is so inclined, hand-quilting would add to that quilt's sentimental value, which Kate could keep as a memory of Mum and pass along as an inheritance to her granddaughter someday...
As a quilter, I absolutely adore your Mom's quilts. On the purple and cream one, if you use a very dark backing, it may show through to the front creamy squares. I can't wait to see what your longarmer does for you. I am a longarm quilter, and I love the process of finishing quilts for others. It's a very nourishing journey for my soul. Knowing that loving hands and a creative mind made the top. Your Mom was a very good quiltmaker. 💞💞
@@nicolethijs5428 It's not always thought about when choosing backings, but I've longarmed enough to know customers are unhappy when they see what has happened on their quilt. I'm sorry it happened to you.
My own mistake, Judy. I wanted to be trifty. Had a lot of fabric over from the top so stichted 3 different panels together, a grey patterned one, a white one and a blue patterned one. There was a lot of white in the front. It was a lone star quilt. The quilt was handquilted and the white of the front seemed grey where the grey wand blue fabric shone throught the white of the front. It was horrible. Nothing to,do with a longarmer or so. The quilt was a kingsize and entirely handmade.
The last one I would call Stepping Hearts. All so beautiful. Kate you are very brave to bring these quilts out and sharing with us. All the way from Australia, I’ll be honoured to come with you to Scotland.
Hi Kate and everyone on the lime green sofa.Ive just had my 2nd covid vaccination this afternoon. If it's anything like the first, I should have a lovely nights sleep. What a lovely idea of finishing mum's quilts for her. Mum's are so precious❤️❤️❤️
Hey Kate! Looks like your mum knew what she was doing!! Each quilt top is more beautiful than the last. What a treasure for your family...after you’ve done the hard work of finishing! All of these quilt tops are so beautiful, it will be a labor of love to complete them. What a lovely legacy from your mom. Enjoy and savor the finishing of these gifts!
You really touched my heart with this video. My mother got me interested in quilting and it is a passion for me. I understand perfectly your use of the word overwhelming, so many emotions. My mother died at 98 1/2 and was excellent at any craft she chose to do.
Kate I pray for you. I lost my mom when I was 31. She had breast cancer. These suit cases remind me of hers. Thankfully I was able to make quilts from her fabrics. Precious Memories!!
Sorry to disagree but this pattern is not an Irish Chain. Irish chain has no triangles in the quilt and the squares would have made a differant pattern. It was the first quilt pattern I ever made.
@@nicolethijs5428 You're absolutely right Nicole. Kate's mum didn't follow the rules of tradition in her version. Gotta love that! A single Irish chain uses a 9 patch (3 across & 3 down) for the checkerboard block. A double Irish is 5 across & 5 down. Kate's mum used 4 across & 4 down. And instead of a solid block in the corners of her solid alternating block, she used a half square triangle. In her book, "Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns", quilt historian, Barbara Brackman catalogs so many variations of these blocks. I think that's the beauty of quilting , you make it your own.
I think you taking the quilt tops personally is a brilliant idea because it would be heartbreaking to have them get lost or damaged in the post. Such beautiful quilts Kate what lovely keepsakes for you. Jx
Such beautiful quilts 😊, what an honour to finish them for your Mum. I got teary watching this, I can only imagine how you must be feeling Kate. I can’t wait to see them quilted xxx
Your mother’s quilts are beautiful. I’m going to share this with my son so he can see what he will be doing some day. My grandfather, uncle and two aunts came to America from Scotland as small children
This video is pure joy! The beautiful quilts, the memories, talking about upcoming adventures, opportunities to learn something, you’ve had your hair cut, and your general calm and happy demeanour!
Your mum’s quit tops are stunning. Im sure she will be so pleased to know you are completing them. A skill she learnt and a talent she passed to her daughter 💕
Lovely quilts! I feel the same way about seeing my mom's handwriting, from when she was well. And, I've finished my mother-in-law's knitted throw after she passed. We carry them with us all our lives, don't we? It's nice that they can live on through us in a way.
O I so enjoyed seeing your moms quilts. She did beautiful work. I think your children would love having one of their grandmothers quilts. Your granddaughter and your brother to. I really liked the hearts and the strip pieced ones. You have a lot to do. But they will be beautiful.
Oh Kate, Those quilt tops are so lovely. I especially liked the “ Square in square.” My mom died two months ago and this video brought a tear to my eyes. Mom was a knitter and we divided up her stash after she died between her five daughters, who all knit. I’ve made four pairs of socks from her yarn. I miss her.
Dear Kate- the " pink and cream" quilt cover from your mom I think is very special in her choice of light colors and pattern❤ And the square and square is also lovely.. Gosh...they are all nice in their own way! What a family of handcrafters you all are😊
Quilting is work for the heart as well as the hands, isn’t it. These are real legacy pieces and even (or especially) the socks must mean a lot to you. It will be lovely to see all of these as ‘finished’ items, but what a lot of good ideas there are there, too xxx
Your Mum's quilt tops are just so beautiful! She would have been thrilled, that all the her family will have the opportunity to each have one. Emotional for you I'm sure, particularly the fact, that you could smell her sewing room. Scent is such a powerful sense is'nt it!!...transports you right back to that special person. I have a bottle of my Mum's signature perfume that evokes all those lovely memories......and yes, the tears well up!! Enjoy completing this act of love for your Mum. Janine
It's such an honor to be able to share your love of quilting w us. Your mum really did create some spectacular quilts. We, as viewers, feel your love for her as well as your loss. Thank you for inviting us again into your home. The quilts sing praises and your kitties purr w love...❤🇨🇦

You are a true treasure in the world and Kate is so blessed to be helped in this endeavor for her mother. God bless all of you.
This was a lovely episode a daughter finishing her mum’s quilts and knitting the unfinished socks for your father.
Oh my goodness your Mother did such beautiful work! Hugs! This tugged at my heart... the scent of her sewing room. 😢 My Grandmother's scent was Dove soap! They are always with us!

Such a silly question. :)
Oh yes, looking forward to the trip 😊
I'm game if you are!
Oh, yes! Dates please, I'm packing my bags. Lindsay, Sacramento, California. All of you Ladies sound like a fun bunch! P.S. I'm a quilter.

Lovely quilts! I love the last two quilts.
What a legacy she left. That smallest one would be perfect for your granddaughter.
That's exactly what I think! Heirloom quilt! What a treasure this video is.
I was thinking that, too! It will be fun to see how the quilts get distributed later. Will your family members get to pick, or will you decide for each... or some combination? It's wonderful, however that part of things happens.
Yes, that‘s exactly what I thought, what a wonderful legacy, and the smallest quilt for the smallest family member! Great!

The most beautiful trunk show of quilts! Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Thanks for sharing!
My mother has been gone for 13 yrs. I still have 2 of her quilt tops to get quilted. I think you have inspired me to go ahead and have those done now.
What a lovely meeting we had with your mother.
We call that pastel quilt (pink and cream ) snowball and nine patch in my little corner of Canada Kate.
This is heartwarming. What a beautiful legacy she has left behind. ❤
❤❤❤❤
Katrin, I hope you get your sewing “mojo” (motivation + joy) back, maybe through quilting. 💜🩵🩷
Your mum was so talented! Thank you for sharing this with us. Much appreciated.
What a beautiful way to share your mother with us. I love each quilt, they were so very different. And the fact that family will get these quilt is so special. I love the one you called pink and cream. I hope you will show us how to do that quilt someday. I would love to make it. Brava Kate!
Evryone of us of on the lime green sofa, goggles and scarfs on, we are going to Scotland.
What treasures you have, Kate. We care about you so much.
It made me think of my lovely Mum 💗
I'm sure your Mum will be looking down on you ,cheering you on!
I said the same thing a few minutes ago. What a gift that would be.
I have some of my mothers crochet pieces to finish up always love working on what she started
I love the cascading framed hearts quilt too. Applique is definitely time-consuming, so I agree that if Kate is so inclined, hand-quilting would add to that quilt's sentimental value, which Kate could keep as a memory of Mum and pass along as an inheritance to her granddaughter someday...
What a tender moment for you to have shared with your subscribers. Thank you. It was a pro ledge to have seen this.
I, was thinking the same. I made that mistake on one of the best quilts I ever designed and it still haunts me after 20 years!
You started me thinking about my mother, I wish I had spent more time just sitting with her, I still miss her all these years
I just loved the picture of the two of you, snuggling close, each with her own choice of colors! ❤️
What a lovely find from your mum. Beautiful beautiful quilt tops. And what a gift to finish them and share with the family. 💖
The 3rd quilt that you called "Pink and Cream" is a double Irish chain pattern. They're all beautiful.
Definitely eye candy for us quilters😍
I made the same Irish Chain lap quilt for my mom. When she passed I had it cremated with her. 💕
It is so beautiful of you to share these with us. What a great sewer and quilter she was. Hugs to you Kate for sharing with us 🫶
Just stunning ! She was an artist like her daughter.Yes, would love to go to Scotland with you. Enjoyed this suitcase opening, thank you
I think you taking the quilt tops personally is a brilliant idea because it would be heartbreaking to have them get lost or damaged in the post.
Hi Kate greetings from Australia. Thank you for sharing your Mum's quilt tops with us, what beautiful work. God bless you and your family.
my mother died at 50 in 1977 and I miss her often. She had no crafty skills - you have such a treasure chest here - thank you for sharing !
❤ the last one with the hearts my favourite.
What an honour to have you share these
😇
Your mum’s quit tops are stunning. Im sure she will be so pleased to know you are completing them. A skill she learnt and a talent she passed to her daughter 💕
Loved seeing Mum’s quilts. Thx Kate.
What an honor, you sharing your Mother's precious quilts with us. I really enjoyed seeing each and every one of them. 💗
I miss her.
What a treasure from your mom! I have the quilt my grandmother made for my dad.. priceless now that they are both gone.
Your mom was a lovely, talented woman. I know you count yourself lucky to have been her daughter. 🌸🐝
I love how your hobbies are passed down from your Mum. She is looking down from Heaven and smiling for sure!
Dear Kate- the " pink and cream" quilt cover from your mom I think is very special in her choice of light colors and pattern❤ And the square and square is also lovely..
Gosh...they are all nice in their own way!
What a family of handcrafters you all are😊
What an honour to watch this episode. You are so blessed to have your Mums work in progress, will look forward to seeing the journey going forward.
What beautiful quilt tops your mom left behind, she will always be with you, bless you and yours💕
Janine
What a wonderful quilter your mum was. I’m sure you think about her every day but these are great memories.
