I loved what Layne did and what he was with AIC, but on the other hand, the rest of the band decided that there were more chapters in AIC to be written. I just saw them with Duvall, and I came away more impressed than I thought I would have. They did the old stuff pretty well, but the stuff written in the Duvall era is really good to me as well.
Alice In Chains is such an amazing band. It's sad to see all these lames who actually think they are garbage now that Layne is gone. RIP Layne & Mike, but long live AIC. This band will forever be my favorite!
Alice in Chains y Down, fueron lo mejor.
Layne is and always will be my favorite singer but i cant lie, William sure sings this and the other songs good. He is no Layne but he is pretty damn good. And as far as people arguing over how AIC shouldnt tour without Layne. It was as much Jerry's band as it was Laynes and they're paying theyre respects to Layne so i think it is pretty awesome. RIP Layne.
I ask myself often: Why all this digital stuff (everybody owns the best mix tables with compressor, limiter, saturator, vintagizer, pitch shifter, voice harmonizer, sidechain, etc.) and there's not one single fucking good mix out there except maybe in Metal music.
What would Alice in Chains have sounded like without Jerry's guitar? Or Sean's amazing drumming? Or Mike's Bassing? A person wailing without direction. Layne was absolutely amazing singing Jerry's music and lyrics, and even contributed his own occasionally. But Layne would have wanted them to move on, This isn't "Layne Staley and the Nobodys". It's his legacy, everybodys'. Will fills in perfectly, with power and emotion. I'm glad they kept the name, because they did it to honor Layne
I don't know have you heard some of the videos taken during a song or two of the clash of titans tour you mostly just hear Mike Starr's bass and Layne's vocals for the most part
I think William fills Layne shoes pretty well considering the size of those shoes. But it has been said dozens of times before. Layne was an amazing singer, but he was not the heart and soul of Alice In Chains. And they are just as great today as they ever were.
Layne was as much the heart and soul as jerry. Without either one of them, they are not the same. Period. They are still amazing. But no one can fill those shoes
Jerry wrote nearly all the damn material. I'd rethink who the 'heart and soul' of AIC is and was. The only problem with AIC today is Jerry just doesn't consistently write as great of material as before. DuVall is as good and more of a competent singer than Layne, whether you prefer him or not. People's association with Layne's greatness, was Jerry's better songwriting back then. I don't expect Layne worshippers to be rational about this.
For real though but I think it's good because everybody always says you can't hear bass but what they don't understand is they can they just don't know what a bass sounds like so this gives them a great opportunity to hear it especially that beautiful Spector NS-2
No, it's "in-ear monitoring", i.e, he's hearing himself in headphones instead of a speaker onstage. Much more controlled, and less delay/lag in the sound when you actually hit the strings.
Nope and I don't think it's meant to be . Layne lives on in the music and this dude does a great job of making it his own . Layne could never be duplicated much to unique of a voice .
I like the new material, more suited for duvalls voice, but would still prefer he leaves songs like down in the hole alone..and yes,I to am happy we still have A.I.C pumping out great new tunes, later.
Jerry actually wrote this song, and he has every right to keep the music going. He certainly didn't ask for the cards to be dealt the way they were. Just imagine the pain of watching your best friend slowly kill themselves. They have been through so much.
Just because they don't have it to where you can't hear this bass doesn't mean it's a horrible mix plus he's using a Spector which with the right amp and stuff is easily probably just as loud as most guitars
Anyone saying William Duvall is a terrible vocalist is absolutely moronic. Just because he has a different sound than Layne doesn't mean he isn't as good. He is actually very talented. Obviously no one will ever replace Layne Staley. But Sully Erna is a close second ;)
Yeah and the only time they performed this song live was in 1996 during MTV Unplugged when Layne sounded weak as crap even though the song had been released four years prior to that where he could have done a better job in 1992-93 when he wasn't nearly as bad off
even to this day how they (the band) think Duvall is a great singer is beyond me.... maybe for this generation is more accessible as a vocalist? still this is not what their fans want im sure.
The problem isn't the dude. The real problem is that we are trying to compare him with the best voice of rock n roll, Layne Staley. This new guy isn't even in the same ball park as Layne, not even fucking close
I personally think they should leave this material alone, because duvall cannot sing it,period,it just is not the same, and personally enrages me,jerry could of done much better than duvall.....I know duvall is talented, but he is not cut out for AIC.
They're great . But I don't think that "the new" AIC should perform this , and others songs where Layne's vocal is .It's just not the same . Layne's voice was one and unique , only Layne can sing those full of pain songs . Don't get me wrong , DuVall is great too , but I just love the passion that Layne sung the songs with . R.I.P Layne Staley . You are missed every day .
Who cares who wrote it and who it was about. Seriously singing the songs a now dead man sang. Its sick. Make new songs. No one is comparing... Its the fact that these songs were sung by layne. If you want to call it AIC and get a new singer for the band ok. GET NEW SONGS. THESE ARE LAYNES AND NO ONE CAN EVER SING THEM THE WAY HE DID. WRITE NEW STUFF. NEW SINGER NEW SONGS. IT IS FUCKING CALLED RESPECT. NO ONE IN THIS NEW GROUP HAS ANY RESPECT FOR LAYNE.
Yeah, like me. www.bandmix.com/mutha-singer/ Just sayin'. I feel a connection with Layne. Always have and always will. On another note, I don't think the performance here is as bad as you think. I think the person destroying this is the production and how the band was mixed at the board. I think the mix sucks and effects are off.
The only reason Alice in Chains did and Nirvana did not is because Kurt really was the heart and soul of Nirvana, Layne sadly was not. He was an amazing vocalist and even occasionally wrote songs, but unlike Alice in Chains, every member of this band has something to contribute. Sean's drum, Mike's bass, Jerry is the majority here. He writes the music, writes lyrics, and without him Alice in chains would be nothing
I always knew Cantrell was involved in contracts/financial/etc part of things more than anyone else during the REAL Alice(Hey somebody had to be the responsible one, no? But I cant believe that even he would go as far as to have that......IDK.....Lenny Kravitz looking dude (w/the lack of a voice to replace Layne)--call the band something new, but don't sully the AIC name for the almighty dollar. Hey, Ill tell it like it is: when he was touring during the time of Baggy Depot etc, the did about 2-3 AIC songs a night, and they actually sounded decent (because they were songs THAT HE SANG A LARGE PART OF DURING AIC ANYHOW!) Here however, this dude is a terrible vocalist, at least for this type of music. And here is what rubs salt in wounds: If I recall correctly, even during the best of times, AIC didn't do most of the Jar Of Flies songs live, the same goes for SAP as well, and I am 99.9% certain that (besides the Unplugged show) they didn't play Down in a hole during a live show. If I am wrong on Down In A Hole, please someone correct me and direct me to a link if one exists, please).
I loved what Layne did and what he was with AIC, but on the other hand, the rest of the band decided that there were more chapters in AIC to be written. DuVall is a brilliant singer and performer. Long live AIC

William DuVall is an outstanding singer plus he plays the guitar very well. The FOUR of them are very good.

LEJOS UNO DE LOS MEJORES RECITALES QUE HE ASISTIDO...GRACIAS MAQUINARIA FESTIVAL POR TRAER A MIS IDOLOS..¡¡¡¡
Sueño Cumplido viaje 4500 km para verlos¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
they are still soooo good. obvioulsy not as good without Layne, but still great
Mike's Spector totally owns the mix in these performances. That bass has some serious growl.
Yup
I love Duvall here; he sounds really great here.
2:46 Phil Anselmo!
@1:26 - Anselmo ;)

Man, i'm gonna feel so down when Jerry is gone too... Hope he finds his brother wherever he is :)
all i hear is bass
I ask myself often: Why all this digital stuff (everybody owns the best mix tables with compressor, limiter, saturator, vintagizer, pitch shifter, voice harmonizer, sidechain, etc.) and there's not one single fucking good mix out there except maybe in Metal music.
Metallica wouldn’t know what bass is lol
@@zamadhi in my opinion the rush mixing is good, but personally I like hearing a bit more bass
Your right alli hear is the bass.i can't hear Jerry Cantrell playing guitar at all
@@aT_TooL facts

Even Mike Starr would not have agreed with that bass sound level
I don't know have you heard some of the videos taken during a song or two of the clash of titans tour you mostly just hear Mike Starr's bass and Layne's vocals for the most part
I think William fills Layne shoes pretty well considering the size of those shoes. But it has been said dozens of times before. Layne was an amazing singer, but he was not the heart and soul of Alice In Chains. And they are just as great today as they ever were.
nope
No I think Layne was the heart, soul, and you could never find ANYONE to fill those shoes. Williams doesn't close.
Layne was as much the heart and soul as jerry. Without either one of them, they are not the same. Period. They are still amazing. But no one can fill those shoes

This bass line kicks ass!
Facts
tantos años y aún extraño a Layne...
This singer is good. but the magic is gone.
Jerry Cantrell and Mike Inez having a sexy face off w/ their guitars ;)
mike inez play bass no guitar.
Lenny Kravitz
Mike Inez featuring Alice in Chains - Down in a Hole

no tuvimos a layne staley con alice in chains pero por lo menos vino alice in chains a chile.
Duvall has the magic man! Can't wait for the next album from these guys
This band was famous for the harmonised vocal of staley and cantrell........Rip layne....Rip harmonised vocals
1000th Subscriber 👍
I miss Layne :'(
its jerry's song they can play it if they like.
i'm almost sure that i could do a better job in AIC than the new guy. I may just send an audition tape! LOL
I like this....alot..
Why didn’t Layne ever sing this live except for the Unplugged performance?
Kravitz in chains
Just to settle future arguments, Jerry Cantrell wrote these lyrics, not Layne.
Not the same without layne :/
No shit Sherlock!
Spoken the truth and this is for the few.🤘❤️🙏
Layne had that raspy voice you only get with cigs heroin and depression God rest his soul.
Nope and I don't think it's meant to be . Layne lives on in the music and this dude does a great job of making it his own . Layne could never be duplicated much to unique of a voice .
Might not be the same but dude is a damn good stand in. Even though the shoes to fill are huge, I think he's doing a fine job.
Baixo com um driverzão fudido, pesadíssimo. Melhor versão ao vivo!
I like the new material, more suited for duvalls voice, but would still prefer he leaves songs like down in the hole alone..and yes,I to am happy we still have A.I.C pumping out great new tunes, later.
This song should've gone down with Layne
It actually has. I bet no one still has that thrill the song passes when it was sung by Layne.
Jerry actually wrote this song, and he has every right to keep the music going. He certainly didn't ask for the cards to be dealt the way they were. Just imagine the pain of watching your best friend slowly kill themselves. They have been through so much.
Jerry kicks ass
Layne Stanley you cannot replace him a Big Ass Boo to this
@headbanger0024 Ajajajaja csm no me había percatado de ESE detalle xDDDDDD
R.I.P Layne R.I.P alice in chains.
Horrible mix. Good performance, horrible mix.
Just because they don't have it to where you can't hear this bass doesn't mean it's a horrible mix plus he's using a Spector which with the right amp and stuff is easily probably just as loud as most guitars
False, Jerry wrote this song. As did he write majority of these songs

no laynes rolling over in his grave going what did you do to my music!!!!!!
That junk has left AIC because of his pleasure.
They can spit on his grave!
Actually this wasn't his music Jerry wrote this song
jerry lo mas grande!
I wish they wouldn't have kept the name. I think that the heart and soul of AIC was Layne not Jerry. Layne's voice is beautiful to replace.
Alice rules period
Where's the guitar?
sorry but honestly without Layne this band sound different I mean Layne got really deep feels In this song but this new singer don't have that.
Yeah and the only time they performed this song live was in 1996 during MTV Unplugged when Layne sounded weak as crap even though the song had been released four years prior to that where he could have done a better job in 1992-93 when he wasn't nearly as bad off

Are you always crying?
that singer just aint cutting it!
Nope not having it....if it's not Layne then it's no one....sorry but there is no replace for that man...r.i.p u fuckin legend
I like this song but there's way too much delay on the singer...
its his style. AIC is more melodic and atomospheric now
not nearly as godly as lanes voice but still a great performance!!
It doesn’t hold the same emotion without Layne
layne cant be proud of this shit...
Amazing
lo re banco a duvall.....
Ahhh your still hot Jerry!!!! XD

Just think if Nirvana had carried on this nonsense after Kurt passed away. It still pains me Alice in Chains is doing this. Bless Layne and Kurt.

That's because Jerry's guitar is barely audible
Yeah, like me. www.bandmix.com/mutha-singer/

Rob Ellis you take that shit and bury it!! don't ever compare yourself to Layne again!!
William duvall is not singing it right omfg just stop the song
That basstone is way to heavy for this song..
Duvall is out of tune the entire time. He's no Layne, but I'm glad that Jer is still going strong:
Não é por nada, mas laney Staley é insubstituível!
sully erna is actually a layne wannabe
no...just ....no
