Duvall isn`t a Lane Stanley copycat. He is his own self when he comes out on stage,We miss Layne, it`s great to hear their music continue on
Just about anyone could do what he is doing. Nothing special at all.
He sounds great.
@@mtpstv94 What would you be expecting? "Just about anyone" is a bit unfair to say.
Great comment👍
God Alice In Chains didn’t age well
No one will ever replace Layne, but Duvall has done a great job since he joined AiC and damn, Jerry is just such an amazing player.
..well, if u're talking 'bout THIS performance, u must be deaf, my brother. Though duvall can sound even worse.
@@Diocane81 this performance was mediocre at best, but he usually does a great job
@@themaggot8 ..sorry but I must disagree. again. imho William's "good" performances since he joined Aic can be counted on one hand's fingers. he struggles a lot everytime he tries to sing the way Layne did. don't get me wrong, I like the guy and I think he's a skilled musician and a good singer. his voice simply doesn't fit with the old songs.
@@Diocane81 and that's extaly why my first comment was "No one will ever replace Layne, but Duvall has done a great job since he joined AiC"
@@themaggot8 ..and I repeat, again and again and again and again, that WD never gives justice to Layne's era songs, so I don't see how he can do a "great job" singing the old stuff.
The mix of Duvall's guitar is criminal... just think how thicc those tracks would've been if you could hear his guitar. That dude can play... turn it up man!!
So I'm not the only one who can't hear it?! Dude. The times you can hear Duvall play, HE FRICKIN PLAYS.

Rock am ring mixing in these is most always pretty bad
I must be the only person out there that'd be quite happy to go to an AIC show and just hear songs from the 3 albums they've done with William. Love the old Layne stuff but the 3 albums they've done with Will are killer.
Another one right here! I'd be actually bummed if they played only one song from each of the 3 albums with Will, there's so much great stuff there!
The extra guitar is an added bonus too live@@MechaBanitsa
Maybe not the only 1, but you'd be in a small group, cuz that's a terrible idea;))
That would be sick! The albums they’ve put out with him are (this may get some flak) are equally as iconic. They are just so good. When you have an anchor like Jerry, how could you go wrong?
The devil put dinosaurs here is so criminal. I’m still waiting on the day they play phantom limb live, if they ever do. I think a few more from the william era of AIC would be cool.
People talking absolute shit about Duvall need a slap. "He's not Layne" - well, no fucking shit Captain Obvious! He's still absolutely incredible and completely fits in with AiC, In fact he adds more to them as he plays guitar alongside Jerry which thickens the sound live. His vocal ability is fantastic of course, but to do Laynes stuff whilst playing guitar and harmonising with Jerry is top tier musician level. I'll always say Layne is one of the best rock/grunge vocalists we've ever heard, but credit where it's due, William does his own thing and makes it his own. Jerry much be pinching himself that he managed to snare two awesome vocalists for AiC.
"Absolutely incredible" is a stretch. He's fine. Layne was absolutely incredible.
@@triflomastera4882 have to agree with both, William is fantastic and does not deserve all the crap people say. That said, using the same adjective or phrase to describe Layne and William is a lil much.

I have nothing but admiration for William Duvall. How hard is it to follow in the footsteps of someone like Layne Staley? But I love AIC music and Jerry is one my favourite guitarists ever. The show, Alice in Chains music and indeed, Layne's legacy must go on. What's the alternative?
Agreed. But, there's no alternative my friend. AiC was always Cantrell. He wrote all the music and most of the lyrics. Layne was the best vocalist of that era (imho) but Cantrell... he found the ONE man in the world as cool, as charismatic, and as good a singer as Layne. The only other guys that could have pulled it off vocally were Cornell and Mike Patton but neither of them could get onstage in dark ass sunglasses, and a hot ass leather jacket, and not look ridiculous. Duvall is perfect. He does the old material justice, and the new AiC material is amazing. Glad they're still making music.
Agreed. Layne is imho is always overlooked when next to Kurt. Damn I miss GRUNDGE.
Even Layne’s father said that they must continue with the band!
Sean is a beast on the drums!

@@scottdecker3 That’s the AIC sound.
@@MisterTee I know all their songs. I can play all their songs. These are all slower than the recordings. No way around it.

At least he sings very well, something that so many singers from the 80s don t know how to do it anymore. Layne is missing to all of us but see them live you will cry.
They sound great…
0:02 black parade?
James Hetfield and Jerry Cantrell are my favorite rhythm guitarists! The riffs those two have written are amazing!
I think they're actually friends! Or at least kinda close. James performed "Would?" with AIC at Rock am Ring 2006 and Jerry played a couple of songs with Metallica at night 3/4 of their 30th anniversary shows back in 2011!
@@RodHammett95 Yeah, they're friends. I know people like to make a big deal out of James making fun of Layne when Alice In Chains had to back out of the tour because of Layne's addiction. But if Jerry can forgive and forget, why can't we? Plus, James had his own problems with alcohol and probably said that while beyond drunk. And I know Lars and Jerry are really close friends. Lars interviewed Jerry on his It's Electric show and Lars said to Jerry "I consider you one of my most closest friends." And Jerry replied "absolutely!" Then they preceded to tell a story how Jerry was at Lars' house and they were drinking and having a drunken fun time. Rock on! Cheers!
Pat Smear is without any doubt the best rhythm guitar player!
@@vanlife8122 I like Pat. And you're entitled to your opinion. But I'd like to see Pat play Battery, Disposable Heroes, Blackened, Fight Fire With Fire, Damage, Inc, The Shortest Straw etc all while singing at the same time. James is on another level. I like Pat, but I disagree.

ah shame that nowadays one of the best bands in the world cant move a crowd anymore: 2 reasons: the cool kids of the 90's are too old now, the rest is spoiled
low test level bro. it hurts to see the crowd this dickless ...
@Skip R kind of a bold assumption to say everyone in that crowd is a stoner i think your this narrow minded because you never smoked a spliff with your friends
I'll give you the real two reasons: They were programmed at 6pm on the Friday, with everybody still hung over from the Thursday. Check out Smashing pumpkins later that night for the cheering crowds when they've got some beer in them.
I've been to music festivals from the 90s to now and an afternoon slot hardly ever gets a crowd wild. Not then and not now.
Not even Ratm can rile them up as much as they do at a night show.
So, to this day, William has been in the band as Lane had and he's recorded as many albums as Lane did with the band... and people are still bringing it up??? C´mon, lern to let go, yes Lane was great, but Duval has more than earned his place and I don't know if Lane would be as good as Duval (he's 54 freaking years old) should he still be alive (Lane would also be 54 today).
No fucking shit my brother!!! AIC would never had bothered if the man didn’t fit & help make the magic come alive again. Whether it be performing older material but especially the newer more relevant material. It’s huge, it’s powerful, it’s breathtaking, & it’s undeniably relevant. It’s quite obvious the band loves & misses Layne without question. The newer songs & lyrics bare that out. But to think these men would hit the worldwide stages & record new albums behind some bum of a frontman is beyond stupid. Total honesty & complete trust with outstanding results. Love AIC forever & always.🙏🏼
I get so tired of the negative comments about Will as if AIC owes something to fans because they had to replace Layne AFTER he died. Will seems like a great fit to me and I have seen other performances where the vocals sound much better. I think even Jerry doesn't sound that great in the mix here. I personally think the last 3 albums with Duval are killer. BGWTB and Rainier fog are masterpieces in my opinion and so is Boggy Depot, so Jerry has a heap of life left in his songwriting, playing and singing. If Will is good enough for Jerry, then people should stop bitching about Duval and either get with the program or move on. Layne is not coming back and given the quality of the albums AIC have done with Will, I think they made a great choice. One other thing, in all the comments, no one seemed to mention how great Mike Inez bass playing is, his tone and groove are unstoppable even if the tunes are a little slow here.
Will is an amazing addition i think. It only took me one song toget over the fact that it was not layne. By the time i heard the second song of the live in mocow gig they did i was alright with him. People just need to get over the initial shock and then move on. Layne is dead. Sadly. But i would not want to place bets on layne stil being alive today if he did not die in 2002. Will brings a vocal range very similar to layne. I am happy with their choice.
Every time i hear AIC songs from the nineties, i get shivers.

They sound incredible! Folks should really appreciate being able to see these guys even without the original singer.. it's all their original music still and this guy is killing it every time!! Also Cantrell is definitely not an "underrated" guitarist lol... He's literally known for being one of the best..
I'm not a hater of Duvall and love the rest of the band, but realistically Layne was the magic of the band. And personally I'm a guitarist so I don't fawn over lead singers. I'm glad they're still going though.
@Skip R for me it's more that NOBODY is Layne.
They sound good although it would sound more complete if Duvall had a guitar to play rhythm parts on some of those songs. He has done this before with Jerry. I know William got his guitar a few songs in but you can't hear it and when Jerry plays leads there is no rhythm part backing it.

Now I am 48yo and they have a special place in my ❤
Older they get the slower they play LOL
Mr Duvall reinterprets all the songs so nicely and represents them in a way layne probably would have liked! He seems like a pretty independently minded musician. His solo material is on a different track from Alice In Chains material!!!
Great comment. I agree 👍
William Duvall is a showboat who sings off key half the time. Layne would not approve.
You know, it’s really quite apparent that the band doesn’t have as many negative comments as you do, because as I write this they are currently working on new material for the new album, besides the completion of Jerry’s solo album!!!!!
Loved Layne's vocals and Duvall is the only guy with the voice and charisma to lead AiC without doing a Staley "impression"... like the new dude in STP. And... Duvall is a badass guitarist.
Jeff gutt try out for aic .He sounds the closest to layne..Maybe jerry couldn’t handle it.. Alice in chains died when Layne did.🪦🙏
@@WilliamBarker-y9m Gutt? That dude is weak. Duvall... that man is the truth! And, AiC definitely didn't die with Layne, their album sales alone prove that (and I mean the NEW albums which are awesome). And Duvall is a much better songwriter and a great guitarist. "So Far Under" smokes "Angry Chair". That song is weak.
@@CaptainKirkDigglerduvall is a better writer then who! 😂 ...he definitely ain't a better singer
@user-dv6dg5gu6d You heard me lol. Duvall is, without a doubt, a better guitarist and writer than Layne. And you do know that almost all AiC tunes, vocals and music, were written by Jerry right? But... Angry Chair vs Last Of My Kind isn't close. Last of my Kind smokes it. Sorry.
@@CaptainKirkDiggler if Duval was a better writer then why don't they play any of his material live 😂

Too young and ignorant to understand their sound and remember Layne Stanley.

I attended this concert and I am a big fan of the band. But live and in front of the stage it sounded nothing like this recording. The mix was so bad, that you almost couldn't hear the vocals.
