Peter's drumming abilities were so damn great in his prime!!!! He has the unique jungle rhythm and jazz filled riffs and swing and style, the most underrated and underappreciated drummer of his time!!!!
Everything live from KISS on the 70’s especially is insane. The raw energy and drive to succeed is so evident. And same for their first 6 studio albums. Incredible
@samuraidarryl - Couldn't agree more. Rock N Roll Over and Love Gun are the best efforts from them, imo, from the 70s. Hotter than Hell comes close from the first three.
Great reaction. KISS members all have distinct characteristics as vocalists. Paul with the soaring melodic style, Gene with his gruffness, Peter with his raspy voice and Ace has kind of a reedy talking style. They’re all easily distinguishable from each other, just like their different stage performing styles. Gene is kind of a lumbering menace, Paul is an athletic poser, Ace is a wobbling staggerer and Peter is a fast punching street fighter. All this makes for a great band. Those qualities are more or less unchanged after all these years, despite the lineup changes. That’s why I’ve seen them thirty times.
We all know why Ace was the wobbling staggerer. Apparently Ace was well known for his lack of balance (not always chemically induced), especially early on. I guess when he added the huge boots it got even worse. Ace claims when he'd fall during shows, Gene and Paul would run over and play over him (ala Black Diamond) like the whole thing was planned.
Without Peter Criss, as much as Paul and Gene trash him now, arguably Kiss would’ve never hit the heights they did. Without Peter, no Beth. No Beth, possibly no full peak for Kiss in the 70’s as it was their biggest hit. Also, Peter’s Rod Stewart rasp is such a signature Kiss sound. Tunes like Strange Ways, Baby Driver, Hard Luck Woman shined so much because Pete could deliver on vocals.
You are right. The album Destroyer wasn't doing well at all until Beth became an unlikely hit. It's possible without Beth Kiss may have been considered a one hit wonder with the album Alive!
They had a singer with the power of Peter Criss ... and gave him one or two songs to sing, if he wasn't coming up with the material himself. Absolute waste of talent.
One of my favorite songs with the whole band playing their hearts out. The word for this is RAW. No filler at all, no backing tapes, nobody behind a curtain, no orchestra... Just pure BOOM.
Agreed, and as a die hard Peter Criss fan, he was the only one who truly live!!! They didn't have to edit or audio bullshit anything for the Catman!!!!
This is when Kiss was still hungry and great up to their live album Kiss Alive, I saw Kiss in their early days 3 times in 1974' -75' thy brought it !! Great hard Rock n Roll !!! Then they got Huge after Love Gun and Silly !!!!!!!
people say Paul is an underrated singer, and it's true, but Pete even more underappreciated, he could belt it out like nobody else, frankly. incredible voice.
Love this song! It's one of the KISS songs that really got me into the band and drums as a kid in the 70's. Peter's screamy and raspy voice was unique and a great sound for the band.
@@Rabant777 Damn, that's right. I forget that in early '76 they were still wearing the Dressed to Kill outfits. When I think '76 I just think of the Destroyer/Rock and Roll Over costumes.
This is always one of the best live songs ever!!! Zeppelin Stairway, The Who Barba O'Reilly, Fleetwood Mac Go Your Own Way and the original lineup Kiss Black Diamond!!!
I grew up on this shit, had the posters & my cousins & I would roleplay the 4 members of Kiss (I was Ace)……that being said I LOVE the Melbourne Symphony version - Kiss played there back in 2000 ? with an accompanying orchestra & it was lit AF (even the orchestra had face makeup on)….you’re gonna have to check that out
My favorite Kiss song but I also love all of their music. Used to put my 🎧 on, whenever I was in a bad place, and just rock out till I would mellow out.
I think this concert was from late 1975/early 1976... the original Kiss in their prime 🔥🤩🤘 before the drugs, alcohol & egos wrecked them. This song was written for their first album in 1974 by Paul Stanley - it was about New York City call girls who used a cheap makeup brand called 'Black Diamond'... Peter Criss (drums) sang lead, cos he had a bluesy vocal delivery that fit the song. Both Paul & Gene grew up on 50's and 60's R&B and rock n' roll... so those influences were big in Kiss' music. Peter Criss also surprised everyone in 1976 by writing and singing a piano ballad called 'Beth' ... it shocked critics by charting in the top 10 and becoming Kiss' biggest hit single. Criss was influenced by jazz and big band music, so that was what he brought to Kiss. When he was fired in 1980, it changed the band quite a bit... Peter Criss' health and drum skills were compromised by his addictions by 1979 to the point he was unable to play in the studio, and in concert... But in Kiss' early days, Criss was literally the 'catman' on the drums.
Agreed, they were a tight unit and focused!!!! As a die hard Peter Criss fan and Ace, this is when they were all happy and not bashing each other, and very talented and great 👍!!!!!
If you haven't heard one that Ace sings, but want to, Shock Me or New York Groove are good starts, as well as 2000 Man or Into The Void. Also, "You Wanted The Best" features all 4 taking turns on lead vocal in their 1998 reunion album, Psycho Circus (it's also the album that into the void is from...)
THIS IS KISS......not that crap they tour with today.....this is who we all fell in love with in the 70's. There was nothing like this, they scared the churches, they scared our parents.....the kids loved them.
You two are truly a joy to watch, music is that universal language that we all speak and can get on that same wavelength. Beautiful stuff man, love it! 🤘
Even with the crude recording in the early seventies they still sound great. Their live performance is what they were best known for early on their studio albums were at the beginning did not do all that well
Black Diamond is their best song 🎵 ever live wise!!! It actually showed how great of musicians they actually could be!!! Peter and Ace shined like a mother fucker!!!
My favorite KISS song. Peter Criss can sing his ass off. You can't be in KISS if you can't sing. Ace sings stuff like Shock Me, New York Groove and Into the Void. Gene and Paul sing tons. Peter sings this, Beth, Hard Luck Woman and Nothing to Lose. There is no album version of this song. The best version imo is the Kiss Alive IV version with the Symphony Orchestra behind it. This is the original album version of it as it was recorded as a demo track. EDIT: That's wrong, this isn't that version but that version is also live. This I think is from KISS Alive II.
The original KISS in the 1970s were the best. They blew everyone out in Live performances. When they returned in the mid 1990s with the original line up with Peter Criss (drummer) and Ace Frehley (lead guitar) they still rocked. Today with the subs in for Peter and Ace they are great musicians but nothing can touch the original members.
"Do-wop Metal" is spot on. You can really hear the do-wop on their first album (especially the song Let Me Know). They moved to heavier and heavier music in the next few albums, with notable exceptions like Beth.
"Black Diamond" is one of their best songs. When they wrote this song, it was a full band collaboration. This version was a little sloppy, but still good. Fully agree about Paul Stanley. He's a very underrated singer.
This live clip is from the 25th or 26th of January 1976 recorded at Detriot's Cobo Hall. KISS played three sold out shows. At the 27th they got live on stage their platnium records for the ALIVE double Album. To me this shows are the peak in terms of energy and excitement when they were still hungry and unit on stage.
TNT, glad you enjoyed it. This is from their 1974 self titled debut album Kiss. Peter Criss aka The Catman is the drummer. This is the link to the studio version: ruclips.net/video/y0nNZ5wAWZE/видео.html

I had every album until they unmasked. I saw KISS in '79 and on the '96 Reunion and '00 Farewell Tours. So I only saw them live with original members each time. A good Live performance vid of this one, along with 'Deuce' and 'She', is the Live - 1975 Midnight Special video.
Kiss easy as it seems everybody who's been cheated on or cheated can relate to that song it looks like she was trying to fight it the whole song but at the end kiss won lol you're both official members to the KISS army welcome

Peter's drumming abilities were so damn great in his prime!!!! He has the unique jungle rhythm and jazz filled riffs and swing and style, the most underrated and underappreciated drummer of his time!!!!
Peter Criss gets dumped on now but back in the day he was a monster live.
Beth was major song and flip side of Detroit Rock city
The way Paul goes on about Peter baffles me. Peter's drumming and vocals were perfect for the early Kiss sound.
Peter Criss gets dumped on because he's a crybaby, plus, like Ace, he was always high or drunk.
@@scottkendall7789 still does not explain the way Paul goes on, claiming Peter can't play drums or sing properly.
@@MickC2167 he could, but peter got lazy, stoned and impossible.

Original lineup still the best.
Yup no doubt. Ace is just too great to replace.
Stanley Simmons Kulick and Singer. Revenge era best musicianship.
@-Steve - guess people can’t have opinions now

Obviously, Peter is too damn great to replace as well!!!
100.000 years live in 1976 is another great song! Thanks for bringing us more KISS reactions!
Greating from Argentina (sorry for my english)
The drummer was Peter Criss--he sings lead on a few songs: this one, Beth, Hard Luck Woman and a couple others. You guys are great, btw!
Strange Ways, Mainline, Getaway, Baby Driver, Hooligan, Dirty Livin' :D
Baby Driver go
Baby driver
Hard Luck Woman, Beth, Strange Ways, Nothing to lose, and Baby Driver!!!! Should have sung more, but Paul is still jealous of Peter and Ace!!!!
Forgot about Houligan and Dirty Liven!!!
Peter was a GREAT drummer and a FANTASTIC singer. He lost his ability to drum later, but at his peak he was indispensable

Peter has by far the best voice in the band, by a country mile!!!! 👏
Without Peter Criss, as much as Paul and Gene trash him now, arguably Kiss would’ve never hit the heights they did. Without Peter, no Beth. They had a singer with the power of Peter Criss ...

Absolute waste of talent.
Peter might have been even more indispensable than Ace... and Ace is my favorite member of the band!
This was the KISS I knew. Raw, live and explosive!
PARASITE is a HEAVY tune. Later on, they did a song called " WAR MACHINE" that you should check out.
One of my favorite songs with the whole band playing their hearts out. The word for this is RAW. No filler at all, no backing tapes, nobody behind a curtain, no orchestra... Just pure BOOM.
Kiss alive. And kiss alive 2. Grew up in 70’s spinning those albums. Memories

React to Strange Ways by KISS. It's another song with Peter Criss (drums) singing.
And has one of Ace's best solo's
