As a KISS fan, I love this song, and I don't know any KISS fans that don't like it.
:) Damn right Brother :)
One of my favorites, along with Black Diamond. Peter’s voice just made both of those songs great.
I adore this song, this was the song and the clip that made me an instant fan :)
this song kinda reminds me of a folk song im kiss army
Even Garth Brooks covered this tune
I've been a Kiss fan since the early 70s, and I'm a Black woman. I cried my eyes out when I could not attend their 1977 concert in St. Louis, because my parents wouldn't let me go. Finally got to see them in Las Vegas, 40+ years, later. Love me some Kiss and this is definitely one of my favorite songs, by them.
Paul Stanley wrote this as an exercise to see if he could write a Rod Stewart-type song. He wasn't planning on keeping it for the band, but Peter Criss latched on to it and knocked it out of the park. A lot of people thought it WAS Rod Stewart when they heard it. Peter has a great bluesy tone that fits it perfectly. He also sang their biggest hit, Beth.
Rod Stewart vibe. I have listened to this for decades and never thought that, but YES.
AND Beth maws awesome since I first saw it on a TV Christmas or New Years special back in the 70s. Watch the basic version to get the vibe, but you have to come back for Kiss with a full symphony versions (kiss alive IV).

Rock n Roll grew out of the Blues!😜
Peter criss wrote this song
@@cindysherf8818 Peter sang it, Paul wrote it.
True. Paul was hoping that Rod would pick it up.
Kiss is actually a pretty damn good band. Fantastic in concert, I've seen them 3 times.
Black Diamond has Paul and Peter changing off in the song. Really good dynamics.
That would be a good edgier song for them to do as well.
Yep, great song to do.
Blsck Diamond is one of theur best songs. Period.
You need to get into some of their rocking classics like Love Gun, I Wanna Rock & Roll All Night, Crazy Nights, Beth (another Peter vocal and one of my faves), Dr Love, Lick It Up .... the list goes on but those are a good starter pack !
Peter knocked Black Diamond and Hard Luck Woman out of the park!!!!!! Catman is awesome 👌
I love y'all! Not too many of us black KISS fans out here, so I just want to give you both a big salute! Blessings to you both!
This version actually made the country charts!!! KISS, the country band
This master piece is one of my favorites that Peter criss sings. He's such an awesome singer and drummer!!!!!!!!!!!🥁🎹
This was my late husband’s favorite band and he also loved their solo albums. Especially this song. We were also a TNT...great reaction
That means that next you have to do "Shock Me," to see guitarist Ace Frehley sing. Live version is a must.
Fun reaction. Really enjoyed watching y'all react. Kiss did many different styles of music. A Rock band with many sides. Metal, Folk, Disco, etc.
But you have to see them live to really get what they are all about. An intense stage show you'll never forget. The one band that will give you your money's worth. Thanks for the fun reaction video.
Love how Paul and Ace are literally playing the same guitar.
Gene's walking bass work on this is a perfect counterpoint to the strumming, chime-y guitars. A great song.
Great reaction.
This is one of my favorite karaoke songs to sing. KISS remains one of my top bands.
Love Peter’s voice. “Black Diamond” by KISS is also a great one to check out 🤘🏼
Do Shock Me or Rocket Ride Ace Frehley sings those two
Shock Me Alive II version
Good choices but I think NEW YORK GROOVE was a much bigger hit and a better choice for them to review
Or 2000 man unplugged.
@@cryhwks love that version
Torpedo Girl
In 1978, KISS were the biggest band in the world, but Ace and Peter wanted out of the band to have solo careers. So to appease them, the record company decided to let each member do a solo album, but still have them be "KISS" records. Even though they didn't play on each others albums. There's some interesting songs on those albums.
KISS are one of the best ever! They conquered all styles of music.
That's one of the great things about KISS. Each member has their own influences and therefore styles.
I haven’t heard this in years! Criss sings Beth, too, which is a love song.
BETH was originally "BECKY" a song that Peter wrote about his girlfriend at the time "BECKY"
@@ericmarshel7343 en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beth_(song)
This song was originally written by Paul Stanley for Rod Stewart. For reasons unknown to me, Peter Criss got the vocals because of his raspy voice. One of their under-the-radar gems.
Gene talked Paul into letting Peter sing it
And, thank God he did, because Catman knocked it out of the park and had the best voice in the band by far!!!!
Should do Ace's Shock Me, Cold Gin, Rocket Ride or New York Groove.🤘
Black Diamond for sure. Baby Driver, War Machine and Not For The Innocent are heavy as hell.
I grew up on KISS. Both of my parents disliked them. They would not let me go to any of their concerts so when I graduated from High School 83’ I made up for it.
Each original member brought out a solo album. You wanna hear something unique, listen to Gene's rendition of "When you wish upon a star" Disney version
This song was written for Rod Stewart but then they decided to do it...Peter was jazz influenced...NOW YOU HAVE TO DO "SHOCK ME:" with ACE FREHLEY singing it..Trivia .he wrote it after he got shocked on stage and it was the first time he did lead vocals..He didnt like to sing so he recorded it laying on the floor of the recording booth so noone could see him.... SHOCK ME (STUDIO VERSION)
Garth Brooks sings this song on their tribute album. GREAT COUNTRY SONG.
Good evening, this was a lovely song, it actually reminded me of Rod Stewart for some reason. It was just a lovely song to listen to. Thanks for sharing and have a lovely day.
Even Gene has said Peter had one of the great rock voices. Loved Peter's solo album (and the two he did after he left the group). That range of styles is one of the reasons they're my favorite group. I'm going to second (or third or fourth or whatever) the suggestion of Black Diamond. Just make sure you turn it up loud
If you want a surprise KISS song, check out “Beth” which is also sung by Peter Criss (drummer). It was also their number 7 hit single back in 1976 (Kiss’ highest ranked single).
we like ALL the variety of Kiss songs
You really need to watch Reason to Live and/o
r Forever by KISS to see how versatile they are. Another one, Never Enough or New York Groove.
I'm 56, been a KISS fan since I was 14!
One of the main reasons I like Kiss is because of how versatile in genres they were. Going through Hard Rock to Romantic songs, Metal to Classical Music. They are just that awesome.
One of my favorite Kiss songs. So good!❤
I remember being a 17 year old senior in H.S. playing foosball in a game room listening to this song and also to Kiss's Beth. School must have been cancelled because of snow and it being very cold out. 17 years old and thinking you know what life's about and now I'm 61 and wishing I could go back and visit that scene again.
That’s exactly what live is about. Always gotta cherish the good times
If you want to really see their true talent you need to watch Sure Know Something from MTV Unplugged. That song still gives me chills!!
Shock me with Ace Frehley singing. Do you love me is awesome. Love gun, come on and love me, 100000 years The one on kiss alive is possibly the greatest kiss song of all time.
Paul is my favorite vocalist In this band, but this is one of my favorite songs period
You gotta do " Beth" . It's another Peter Chris song and the highest charting song they ever did. I believe it made it to #2 on Billboard. It's a classic.
PETER CRISS...NOT CHRIS
Oh for fuckssake....seriously? Who gives a shit?
@The Adventures Of TNT jen here> i was thankfully born into Hard Rock & Metal via my Mom & in Philly so twas non stop music! When i was 3 my cousins & friends all heard a tape from the Kiss show the night before. Instant love! Then i latched onto Peter Criss as my life long favorite. We would get into my aunt's makeup and went to the neighbor's garage and took over his older brothers bands instruments & would pretend to jam out! & No surprise I went on to work with bands, just like my Momma! Great times!
Love this always have since it came out. It's one of the few KISS songs that I occasionally do in my kareoke rotation.
One of the most melo Kiss tunes. Also, Chris has the bestselling single from Kiss: "Beth."
I don't know how I missed this reaction. This is one of my favorite Kiss tunes. Great reaction.
Peter is the Bluesman of the band. Black Diamond is a must because it's Peter and Paul trading lead vocals.
For Ace, this is the first time Ace sang lead. It's loosely based on the time he was almost electrocuted on stage. ruclips.net/video/0Rzp3Shvzow/видео.html
I love this song with Peter criss this song is the best ❤
I'm not a Kiss Dan, but I love this song! I really appreciate watching you guys do reactions. Thanks!
This song came out when I was 11 years old. I have loved it ever since.
:) The country star Garth Brooks covered this live and on album :) People got shocked as he said this is originally a KISS song :)
She said she was shocked. Funny. Thing. Is that they have a song named shock me by Ace Frehley. The guitar player. Now this band KISS is one of the if not the only band that all members are lead singers in different songs. I’ve been to about 7 KISS concerts in San Antonio. They were my first band that I saw in concert back in 1979 in San Antonio. And I got to see them on their last final tour the “End of the World Tour” 40 years later. It came full circle. 40yrs. It was meant for me to see them for their final time kn San Antonio. It was a great concert as they always give. I got to see the changes thru the years.u should listen to Shock Me sung by Ace Frehley and New York Groove and 2000 Man. Also Black Diamond by Peter Criss where Paul Stanley starts to sing and then switches to Peter. U should also listen to Beth sung by Peter Criss. It was a top hit for him made for his wife at the time. They are my favorite band of all time.
Peter's solo Kiss album was by far my fave, followed by Ace's
I almost got in a fight over this song. Stoop was trying to tell me this was Rod Stewart while listening to my tape,in my stereo, in my car in the back-backwoods in Tennessee. If I had kicked him out the car he would have never made it back to “civilization “ and I would not have remembered where to look for him...alcohol was involved. 😂
Peter is actually the best singer, he also sings Beth, their biggest hit as per the top 100 charts. They were mostly a seller of albums anyway. Their name came from Criss telling his bandmates that he was once in a band called Lips, thus they took the name KISS.
I Love you guys reacting to Kiss!!! Great job. They are surprising aren't they! lol Keep em comin.. So many different versions and decades of Kiss - all good.
One of Kiss's breakout songs as one of the first rock ballads was also sung by Peter Criss, The Song Beth. Check it out.
Garth Brooks did a great version of this song from the Kiss Tribute album that came out in the 90's.
I adore this song, this was the song and the clip that made me an instant fan :) also all four original members made their own solo albums :)
Love your reaction and analysis of a KISS classic
In the early 80s I bet someone it was Kiss while he thought it was Rod Stewart... Gr8 vocals by Peter and nice review.
Cheers guys from Toronto Canada keep a rockin. LOVE your channel.🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
Garth Brooks is a big kiss fan he covered this song on one of his albums!!
Garth Brooks redid this song on the Kiss my Ass album,it was a triute record, and it was awesome, did not sound like Garth normally
There’s a video with him and Stanley and Simmons performing together here on RUclips.
This is my favorite KISS song by FAR.
Lick it up by kiss is also a nice one or shout it out loud ...my all time favorites
For lick it up they removed their makeup
Experience "She" , Detroit. Cobo hall 1976 . Kiss was at their very best at this concert . You gotta see them here to see how the legend grew
This song was originally written for Rod Steward by Paul Stanley, Paul decided to keep it and decided to have Peter Criss sing it, if you listen to Rod's song Maggie May, you will hear the similarities between the 2
Paul didn't write this for Rod!!!!!! Gene said this sounds like a Peter song in studio making Rock and roll over and Paul reluctantly let the best damn voice in the band sing it!!!
This is a beautiful song!
Just start with the first album and go through the first six albums one side at a time, one side per reaction. They did short albums then, between 30 and 40 minutes. So you can experience KISS they way everyone did back in the 70's, on vinyl...or 8-track, lol.
Paul Stanley wrote the song with Rod Stewart in mind but Peter heard it and wouldn't let it get by him and so it was recorded for the second side of Rock and Roll Over 1976
Wow. Haven't heard this song for what ...40 years. Crying like a ... well whatever. Never had this happen before. Now I remember, first hearing this song, 6 year old me, older brother, mom, and how much better life was back then. Stay safe everyone. Peace ✌️👍👌
I'm pretty sure that this song was originally written by Paul Stanley for Rod Stewart or it was intentionally created to sound that way.
Apparently it was written for Rod, but I guess coming off the success of BETH they decided to keep it.
Paul wrote this song and originally was going to sing it, but decided to let Peter sing it because it had a Rod Stewart vibe to it and Peter had a raspy voice like Rod Stewart.
I think Paul wrote this and tried to sell it to Rod Stewart, who passed...so Peter who is a Rod mimic sang it...
KISS actually put out solo albums. 1 from each member in make-up back in 1978. I think Ace Frehley's produced the highest charted single, "New York Groove" at #13. The albums showed off each members musical preference. Yes, it was a publicity stunt, but that was KISS.
Peter actually sang one song on pretty much all of their albums...Black Diamond, Strange Ways, Beth, Hard Luck Woman, Baby Driver, Getaway, Mainline. Hooligan...abd more..Ace Frehley didnt sing his first song until Shock Me on the Love Gun album, even though he wrote many songs, Cold Gin, Parasite...too many to name.
If you guys are gonna continue to do Kiss reactions doing a reaction to Detroit Rock City live is a must! I prefer the version from Budakkan, Japan circa 1977. The song is one of their all-time powerhouse rocking tunes that they opened their shows with for years and years. A great double guitar lead in the song between guitarists Ace Frehley & Paul Stanley really accents the song too. One of the best tunes of their career in my humble opinion.
As a non-KISS fan, I love this song, and I don't know any non-KISS fans that don't like it.
Now you have to check out lead guitarist Ace Frehley singing Shock Me, New York Groove &/or 2000 Man to get the full effect of all their vocal abilities
If you strip away the theatrics and stage show they are still a very talented band. The live albums are their crowning achievements. Some of the early studio albums suffer from production sound quality not song quality. Those songs kick A$$ on KISS Alive. Some of the harder songs are "She" "Parasite" "Deuce" and "Let Me Go Rock And Roll". Ace sings and has an awesome solo on "Shock Me." A great live version from Alive II. Another great track from that Alive II album is "I Stole Your Love".
Rocket Ride is a pretty hard hitting Ace track, for Paul I've Had 'Enough (into the fire) or Master and Slave for Gene, Fits Like a Glove ,She , Unholy, Hate or War Machine.
I seriously thought this was Rod Stewart when it first came out. lol Another poster did mention that Paul wrote it to be that way.
Oh ya we love this song. Just the bass line alone is phenomenal. Wait till you discover other Kuss songs😊
Peter’s Beth is his number 1 song that catapulted them thru the late 70s as the biggest band from 76-79 nobody touched them
What’s up guy’s! Nice to see you two Channel sounds great as always..the story behind this song I believe is it was originally written for Rod Stewart..he didn’t like the way he sounded on it so Paul I believe bought the rights from him thinking with Peter’s vocals that kinda raspy NYC Guido(I can say this I’m an NYC guido😄)Brooklyn/Queens accent that it would be perfect..Paul and Gene were from Queens too but they were Jewish so they at least tried to speak properly..Italian American’s especially one’s that didn’t go to college?..not so much😄another great song that Peter mostly sings(with Paul doing some parts)with a real gritty accent is Black Diamond..I think you guy’s will def.like that one..keep up the good work👍🏼
I love your KISS reactions!!! "I still love you" (umplugged version) is another great song, and if you want something more heavy could you hear "100.000 years" live at cobo hall 76 without drum's solo.
Greetings from Argentina!!!(sorry for my English)
Shock Me & Rocket Ride with Ace on lead vocals. Snowblind, Ozone & I'm in Need of Love from his solo album.
she was expecting a song more along the lines of kiss's love em leave em or mr speed,....you should do a reaction to both
Did you guys ever check out “ Beth” ? It’s another sweet ballad that Peter Criss sings. Worth a listen
Great song from the 1976 album Rock n Roll Over, ( also check out , Doctor Love, Ladies Room , I Want You & Take Me from this album)
Paul Stanley wrote this song & suggested Peter sing it, it has that 1970's Rod Stewart feel to it.
Check out Shock Me with lead guitarist Ace Frehley on vocals
From the 1977 album Love Gun.
The song Love Gun is also a good one that is still in rotation in their live concerts, Detroit Rock City , King of the Night Time Word & Shout it out Loud are also good songs from 70's era Kiss. If you want to hear heavier Kiss check out the following albums from the 80's & early 90's ... " Creatures of the Night" " Lick it Up" , " Animalized" , Hot in The Shade & Revenge.
I love the 80s era of Kiss...the No Makeup era.. If you want edgy Check out "Unholy"...Dear LORD, what a song!!!!!
Check out the different drummers doing Black Diamond. Peter, Eric Carr, and Eric Singer. All three rock it!
All of them have had semi-successful solo careers as well. Paul Stanley is lead vocals, and i don't remember which guitar. Gene Simmons - lead vocals and bass. Peter Criss - vocals and drums. Ace Frehley - vocal and i believe lead guitar
Peter sings it but Paul Stanley actually wrote it to give to Rod Stewart but Eddie Kramer heard the demo and got him to give it to Peter to sing.
He sounds alot like rod stewart when he sings.
I believe this was offered to Rod before Peter got it
It was on purpose for this one... he sounds aBob Seeger ish on harder songs, like Kissin time
The band name came out one day when they were driving gig to gig. Someone blurted out what about Kiss... And the rest is history. The name had nothing to do with Satan lol
Absolutely true,Paul was driving and they were trying to think of a name for the band, Paul blurted out Kiss and they all agreed on it
His voice and the song have a Rod Stewart feel to it.
gotta check out music from their first 2 albums. strutter, deuce, cold gin, black diamond, got to choose, parasite
Gotta say ........ Many people have tunnel vision about KISS . And they dont get included when people talk about the Big bands of the 70s; somehow they get excluded. They know Rock n roll all night & makeup & gimmicks, thats the extent of how they know KISS. Thats just one small fraction of the puzzle.
Check out some stuff from the MTV Kiss Unplugged show :)
kiss WERE QUITE VERSITLE BACK THEN. they were my favorite band on Earth
