To this day, my favorite KISS story has to be when they performed a concert on Halloween in Hollywood (about 15-20 years ago) and the concert they were being driven by van back to their hotel. However this being on Sunset boulevard AND Halloween everybody was out partying and causing a virtual standstill in traffic. The band decided to get out of the van and walk back to their hotel. They were still in full makeup and costume having left the concert almost immediately after its conclusion. During the walk, nobody stopped and harassed them and they only got a few complements shouted out on how good their costumes were and they made it back to their hotel with ease because nobody realized who they really were!
As a Kiss fan for over 40 years it's great to see a person's genuine first reaction. Kiss has had their ups and downs through the years, but I'll always remember being a kid jumping up and down on my bed singing along and playing a tennis racket as a guitar
KISS is America's #1 Gold Record Award winning group of all time, and that's in every category, KISS can easily be named one of rock's most influential bands. The Rock N Roll Hall of Famers have released 44 albums and sold more than 100 million albums worldwide.
KISS was my first concert, I saw them in their 1976 Destroyer tour at the ripe old age of 12 with my then 23 year old uncle. It was mind blowing at the time.
dude , thats one hella cool uncle ! I was born in 67 bro. At that age my buddies and I dressed up as KISS, lip sync'd one summer night. passed out flyers to kids in our area. Even a few adults showed up. Played atop of the "green thing" , off to the side of the courtyard ( yes govn't housing and it was a power transformer enclosure heh). We got lots of applause for 3 songs and then the skys opened up for an epic summer down pour. Everyone scattered. Good times :)
When this song was released, it caused a bit of an uproar amongst Kiss fans, many of them hated the fact that their favorite hard rock band had written a disco song. It was written on a bet. Paul Stanley (the lead vocalist for this song) had bet a friend that it was easier to write a disco song than it was to write a rock song. This was the result, and he wrote it quickly, supposedly over a single weekend.
A fair number of hits have been cranked out fast. My Sharona (The Knack) was written along a similar challenge. The writer didn't like pop music of the time because "anyone could write a top 40 song". When told to do try if it was so easy he wrote the song in about 15 minutes. I've read some reports he wrote it while sitting on the toilet. Or about as long as it takes to crap. According to Robert Plant, Stairway to Heaven took as long to write as it does to play. For all the work and creative talent musicians pour into their work, it's often throw away or filler pieces that end up defining them.
Gene always haded the song, and I agree with him. There are some fun interviews where he talkes about the creation of the song and his "contribution" to it.
Wow, you sure know how to pick 'em, Irish Rocker Girl! I only saw KISS one time, in October of '75 in the Cadillac high school gym, just before I joined the US Navy. The band was just starting to take off when that happened. The story of KISS in Cadillac is fascinating. The whole glam-rock schtick with the make-up and outfits led the band to create a vast array of collectible merchandise which sold very well and made the band a lot of money. Their live shows were filled with lots of theatrics: Gene spitting fire, Ace's guitar giving off sparks and smoke during solos, lotsa pyrotechnics throughout. The look on your face when you recognized Gene Simmons by his tongue: simply priceless!
I saw them twice .. once in mid 80s and again on their FIRST reunion tour .. :) LOL And I am literally 2 degrees of separation between me and Ace Freely :) I know his head roadie's wife :)
I saw them in late August 1975 at Notre Dame ACC, in South Bend. Bob Seger was the opening act. Both bands had extremely popular live albums at the time. $ 5.50 per ticket 😂

Great video Diane! I love that you checked out KISS! I know I was one of those who suggested them! I would rather you did "Rock and Roll All Nite" but am excited you did a KISS song! The RRAN video shows them at the best in real concert! I've seen them 16 times myself in concert! An awesome experience! This song interestingly was their biggest commercial single and also is directly responsible for the original group to break up. Within 3 years of this video 2 original members left the band. They both came back for the Reunion tour in 1996, but have since left again. KISS just announced their last show as a group this December in NYC! Keep up the great work beautiful!
Kiss did a Walmart commercial several years ago where they were working in the store. Pretty funny. Kiss was primarily a rock band, but their biggest hit was a ballad, Beth.
The song that you thought might be from the band KISS sounds like the song titled "Kiss" by Prince. "I Was Made for Lovin' You" was released near the end of the disco era, and was KISS's version of a disco song. Various other rock acts at the time, such as Rod Stewart, The Rolling Stones, and others released disco-influenced songs in the late 70s, with varying levels of artistic and financial success. Most KISS songs were heavier than this, although they also had a big hit with a soft ballad titled "Beth". Coincidentally, I attended a KISS concert around the time "I Was Made For Lovin' You" was released. In July 1979 I saw KISS at the Pontiac Silverdome (a football stadium near Detroit). I was not a big KISS fan, but I went mainly to see the band that played before them, Cheap Trick. I stayed for KISS, though. While not a fan, I don't dislike them either.
I saw them live too, even though I wasn't a big fan. I believe I went to see Blue Oyster Cult who was their opening band. But they put on a good show. So did Blue Oyster Cult. It was a good night. This was at the Capitol Center just outside of DC.
Hell, there's even a KISS coffin. According to Gene Simmons, this is very popular among bars for Halloween. Lots of bars use these coffins as coolers and fill them with ice and various bottled drinks.
Ok, it was adorable that you said "That song is from "Moulin Rouge"! 😀 It also may be hard to understand, but in the 70s, we had NEVER seen anything like KISS. And we didn't know what they looked like under that make-up, so it was a total mystery! Then the rumor mill started and it just built the mystery even more!
They were one of the first innovators to really push the envelope on stage theatrics while playing some really solid music. They have been rocking and seeking out concerts for 50 years! Wonderful reaction.
Kiss was HUGE in their day. They had a fully constructed schtick with the make-up for their characters, who all had a back story. They had a surprisingly good catalogue of music (Detroit Rock City is likely their best known song) that sort of straddled the line between harder rock and glam. But their biggest impact would likely be their genius marketing strategy. They called their fanclub the KISS Army and interacted in a way that virtually no one had before. They also licensed their name/likeness for almost any and everything to an extent never thought of (everything from Pat he's to see in a jacket to lunchboxes to a coffin....yes, an actual coffin). While their lineup did change several times, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons have always been the core of the band.
I'll disagree about Detroit Rock City. The song that was on the radio all the time was Rock and Roll All Night. I listened to top 40 in 1975 and later but that song was everywhere. That was their big break out song. In 1976 they won The Peoples Choice Award for being the most popular band that year. They were in a concert when it was announced and that was the song they played on live national TV.
This was a big hit during the disco era most of their stuff is a little harder but all of it is great. I saw them last year on their final tour which is still going on and ends this December they still put on a great show.
This was my absolute favorite band as a kid (I'm 27 now)! I highly encourage you to listen to more of their music as they had "phases" kind of. I think you'll like other songs better. Also look up their live stuff, that's what they're known for. The fire breathing, rockets, lights, "blood spitting", it's crazy. Seen it live twice.

Kiss in concert at Cobo Hall in Detroit, Michigan, in 1975 was the first time that I saw a live pop band play, ever...and what a show it was... and amazingly still is!
I sat in a bar next to gene simmons for 3 hours and when he went to the bathroom i paid both of our bills and tipped the Bartender 50% . When he came back i excused myself and said goodbye.
I’m fairly sure “mugical” is shorthand for magical music, based on the costumes & props, seems apt. I knew this song, but had no idea who sang it , also had no idea Kiss went all the way back to ‘73! I’ve got a new appreciation for this band’s flexibility
Welcome to the creme de la creme of rock and roll. Now the other side of kiss. Listen to I LOVE IT LOUD. Been a fan since the beginning. My favourite band all time. Dig up sweetie. Glad you did this. So much fun watching your reaction.
They are a very iconic band. You should check out their early acting work in Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park, a made for television movie... it's... special...
The repetition works better when you're at a skating rink or dancing to it. This is my generation's creme de la creme, especially this song. Desmond Child also wrote Poison for Alice Cooper, another top tier Glam Rocker, and both songs express passion, need and obsession.
Diane listens to KISS, she's never seen these guys She seems a bit shocked and has to cover her eyes She finds their makeup and clothes a little distracting But it is never boring to watch Diane reacting
I was stationed was stationed at VT- 24 in Beeville, Tx, in 1975-1976. Another sailor, named Rodney Bothell, who was a legend in his own right, his prize possion was the guitar neck that Gene Simon's through into the crowd.
(singing) Kiss was made for selling merch, baby. You were made for buyin' merch And Kiss can drain your bank account, baby Can you make just one more purch?
Awesome video, Diane! Good to see you experiencing KISS for the first time. I remember their songs as a kid back when music was available in the form of 8-track tapes and records. The first album my brother and I had was Double Platinum. In the late ‘70s, they all made a solo album, I had bought Ace Frehley’s (known as The Spaceman) album since he was my favorite. I also had a liking for Gene Simmons (the Demon), but gradually shifted toward Ace, the lead guitarist. The big song from his solo album was a cover of “New York Groove”. My brother’s favorite was Peter Criss (The Catman) who was the drummer. We did plenty of air guitar and air drums listening our albums 😂
"When we started KISS, we wanted to give rock and roll fans the type of show we wanted to go see ourselves. So that was our goal, and I think we succeeded." --- Paul Stanley, lead singer, KISS (the guy with the star over one eye).
I was ten years old when KISS hit their peak in the late '70s. My first rock concert was KISS with Cheap Trick opening, about two weeks before Cheap Trick's first nationwide release. I adored Cheap Trick, and fell asleep during KISS. Unfortunately, my older brother is still trying to be an adolescent and forwarding videos to me from this era.
You/re reaction is priceless. I've been a kiss fan since probably before you were born. It doesn't say much for me but I find it interesting the reaction of the younger crowd.
i remember getting a shirt with an iron on KISS love gun decal and a album for my birthday in either 78 or 79 , i was 5 or 6 back then.. been a fan of them ever since.
Mad genius of KISS to put the costume makeup on. There were MANY of the same types of bands when they were starting out and they needed to do something to stand out. It worked!
My very first concert was in 1976, and it was Kiss. It was the end of the Spirit of '76 tour and the beginning of the Destroyer tour. I was just 14 years old at the time .
I was 14 years old at the time and it brings back memories. Nothing like the variety of music during the ‘70s and ‘80s! Then again, I am biased because I was young at the time.
I saw online a couple days ago where they are doing a "Final" Tour this year (II saw them 20-25 years ago when they were doing a Final Tour, though it was the last time all four original members toured together).
I Love It Loud, Calling Dr Love, Rock n Roll All Nite, Detroit Rock City, Shout It Out Loud, Crazy Crazy Nights, Tears Are Falling, Heaven’s On Fire, God of Thunder…so many good ones to listen to
Being a kid of 12 in Los Angeles in 1979, I was the perfect listener, I was already a Kiss fan, and this disco track was very popular and listenable. It played at the roller rink, and the school kids would skate around in circles while this and Cheap Trick’s “I Want You To Want Me” blasted over the sound system. Good times, indeed.
While I'm not a fan of Disco, KISS did an excellent job with their version of Disco. They're truly an amazing band and the song "I was made for loving you" is one of my favorite KISS songs, the other being "Save Your Love".
Desmond Child always ceeates gold when he writes a song for someone else. He has written songs for KISS in the 80's, Joan Jett and Bon Jovi to name a few. He was a musician in the 70's as well.
Saw them in concert in 1975, great show but destroyed my hearing for hours and I had to work the midnight shift in the Hospital , I Ali also had to change into my military uniform driving down North St , worked with a fantastic nurse thanks Marlene and kept me from talk as it was too loud😅
I was a big Kiss fan,,,when I was 12 in 1975,,,by the time this song came out...80 or 81 I believe I wondered if Paul was playing for the other team,,,saw them live some yrs later...not a bad show but didnt live up to the hype,,,cant imagine what its like now that they are like 70 some odd yrs old
In early interviews, when they were searching for a sound, Paul/Gene said they set out "to be the band that we never saw." Ffwd couple of decades & all of a sudden, EVERY band has merchandising, PR hype & a light/sound show, to augment their song catalog. Liked them almost when I first heard them, & now, love them for their innovative foresight! KISS...Often imitated, Never Duplicated!

You really need to do more KISS. Lots of good songs. Enjoyed it.
Sorry for the late comment, your facial expressions are absolutely fantastic!!!!! I'm loving being a part of your musical education x
I’m fairly sure “mugical” is shorthand for magical music, based on the costumes & props, seems apt. I knew this song, but had no idea who sang it , also had no idea Kiss went all the way back to ‘73! I’ve got a new appreciation for this band’s flexibility
Learning together!
I attended a concert in 1974 in Detroit. Kiss was second billing to Blue Oyster cult.
@@g1sokool669 wow! Sounds fantastic, in fact legendary! Did Kiss make use of the cowbell too?
Welcome to the creme de la creme of rock and roll. Now the other side of kiss. Listen to I LOVE IT LOUD. Been a fan since the beginning. My favourite band all time. Dig up sweetie. Glad you did this. So much fun watching your reaction.
It was very evident that you would not be a KISS fan, but for me being a teen in mid/late 70s, these guys were killing it!
They are a very iconic band. You should check out their early acting work in Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park, a made for television movie... it's... special...
Not that movie please lmaooo💀
@@carlaoits 🤣🤣🤣ace said gene and paul took it so serious it came out horrible🤣🤣🤣😹
*One of the most iconic bands of all time....and this song is mind-blowing*
KISS are undeniably a live band experience. It is hard to capture the energy on vinyl.
I saw their last show here in brazil with my brother! They rock!!! Legends
The repetition works better when you're at a skating rink or dancing to it. This is my generation's creme de la creme, especially this song. Desmond Child also wrote Poison for Alice Cooper, another top tier Glam Rocker, and both songs express passion, need and obsession.
I had to smile at your reaction. I remember seeing Kiss in concert in the late 70's. I was not in the Kiss Army but definitely had friends that were.
Diane listens to KISS, she's never seen these guys
She seems a bit shocked and has to cover her eyes
She finds their makeup and clothes a little distracting
But it is never boring to watch Diane reacting
Aww yay 😂
There you are
I was stationed was stationed at VT- 24 in Beeville, Tx, in 1975-1976. Another sailor, named Rodney Bothell, who was a legend in his own right, his prize possion was the guitar neck that Gene Simon's through into the crowd.
(singing)
Kiss was made for selling merch, baby.
You were made for buyin' merch
And Kiss can drain your bank account, baby
Can you make just one more purch?
I'm Sorry if you haven't heard of Kiss, you had to be Living on Mars.
Yes. It is _that_ song! Lol this was so much fun. Thank you!
"When we started KISS, we wanted to give rock and roll fans the type of show we wanted to go see ourselves. So that was our goal, and I think we succeeded." --- Paul Stanley, lead singer, KISS (the guy with the star over one eye).
Love these guys. Their concert was unreal! Great show
More than 40 years of KISS...and all the people know..i was made for loving you..sad..😮
Pretending to not know who KISS are? KISS? Sure whatever.
My 2nd fave rock band of all time. Their whole presentation is known as "glam rock", & it's obvious why. Thanks for your reaction.
Welcome to the 80's the best time when Reagan was in the office.
Wait! It's the 80s again? Oh happy day! I must immediately go out anf ask someone what gender they are!!!!!
You/re reaction is priceless. I've been a kiss fan since probably before you were born. It doesn't say much for me but I find it interesting the reaction of the younger crowd.
Saw them in Denver fall of '77 just after getting out of the Navy, They were awesome with massive electrical display in their live show
I was high school age in the late 70's so fun to see your reactions to the band I used to listen to
i remember getting a shirt with an iron on KISS love gun decal and a album for my birthday in either 78 or 79 , i was 5 or 6 back then.. been a fan of them ever since.
Mad genius of KISS to put the costume makeup on. There were MANY of the same types of bands when they were starting out and they needed to do something to stand out. It worked!
You have just joined the audience of so many teen and 20s fans that related to the KISS Message of the era.
I wonder if you’re enjoying this series as much as we are enjoying seeing you react to the songs? I certainly hope so! Keep on rocking’, Diane!!!
absolute legends! I'm gonna see them live! rock n roll !
I saw them perform this live in Des Moines Iowa in 1979 , they wore these outfits and everything, been a huge fan since their debut album in 1974
My first concert was Kiss with Wendy O Williams and the Plasmatics opening. I was 14 and what a show for my first concert.
she's so sweet.. and her reactions are so genuine
Diane your expression says it all! Luv your music songs videos segments.
Seen Kiss in concert twice and they were amazing!
Surprise!!!! This was their original song and it made it to the top 40. Love it!!!!!
going to a concert with them on Saturday 15 July 2023. Looking forward to it. Greetings from Norway. 😀
Paul Stanley, who sings lead in this song (and many others) started out as a sixth grade teacher before KISS.
Seeing and hearing Kiss for the first time? One of the biggest bands in the world for nearly 50 years dear.. where have you been.
I saw online a couple days ago where they are doing a "Final" Tour this year (II saw them 20-25 years ago when they were doing a Final Tour, though it was the last time all four original members toured together).
You really need to see some of their live concert footage to *really* see what Kiss is all about.
The members of KISS were very strong musicians individually and together.
I Love It Loud, Calling Dr Love, Rock n Roll All Nite, Detroit Rock City, Shout It Out Loud, Crazy Crazy Nights, Tears Are Falling, Heaven’s On Fire, God of Thunder…so many good ones to listen to
Saw them during the comeback psycho circus tour at All-State arena in Chicago. Original members. It was a great show!!
One of my favorite RUclipsrs just combined my favorite TV show (Batman) with my favorite band (KISS) and just made my day!
Loved three kiss reaction... Love the song.. Keep up the kiss videos
I was a big Kiss fan,,,when I was 12 in 1975,,,by the time this song came out...80 or 81 I believe I wondered if Paul was playing for the other team,,,saw them live some yrs later...not a bad show but didnt live up to the hype,,,cant imagine what its like now that they are like 70 some odd yrs old
Love your dog back there lol!!! KISS is the best. Familiarize yourself.
KISS...Often imitated, Never Duplicated!
personal fave is I love it loud. was in artillery. introduced my guys to it. Voila, whole bunch of new kiss fans.
This was their disco song when disco was popular. KISS fans weren’t thrilled, but Ace’s short and sweet guitar solo is one of my favorites.
LOVE LOVE LOVE KISS!!!!! It was my first concert ever in San Diego back in the 90s hahaha. If you haven’t seen the movie Role Models then you have to!! There’s a ton of fantastic KISS references in there.
Bowie had a lightning bolt across his eye. Loved your reaction.
