You may or may not be interested but that car is called "The Eliminator". It's a 1934 Ford "hot rod" that is owned by the guitarist Billy Gibbons. He had it built in the 80's and he still owns it along with several other legendary custom cars. He's as much of a legend in automobile circles as he is in music! A double legend basically.

You're spot on when you discuss the impact MTV had on promoting music in those days. Having a strong visual clip to go with a song was what everyone wanted. ZZ Top hit the nail on this one, using two tropes that were almost guaranteed to be successful: attractive women and a great car. This certainly drove the airplay, however the music itself was already great.
To this day, this is one of a handful of albums that I will listen to from start to finish without skipping a track. It was also one of the first 3 CDs I bought when CD players came out (yeah, I've been around a looong time hahaha)

I've seen them 6 or7 times. Tres Hombres, and Fandango are probably my favorite albums. I kind of tuned them out with the Eliminator, and Afterburner records. Not my favorites. Always was a good show though. Of course they always played Gimme All Your Lovin', and Legs. And Sharp Dressed Man, too.

I saw 'em in Seattle on their 1976 "World Wide Texas Tour". Great concert. I was 16. "Tush" was big, but most kids were still listening to "Tres Hombres".

I was born in Irving Tx. I remember when I was like 5 or 6 years old, Dusty Hill was like 5 or 6 houses down from us right next door to my brother's friends house. we played football while they were Rocking out Practicing ... I remember how good they sounded.

ZZ made a resurgence in the 80s managing to fit their unique raw style in a world where so much of everything on the air was synthetic drums and keyboard. I remember hearing that Billy Gibbons played with a Mexican peso coin instead of a plastic guitar pick and that’s what gave him a distinct sound. As a 15-year-old watching MTV when this song came out I remember thinking they were very cool to still be making hits. Check out “La Grange “ or “Just got Paid”. Great reaction Diane😍

That's a 1934 Ford coupe! Tres Hombres and Fandango 8 Tracks got plenty of play time for us back in the 1970's.

ZZ Top WERE scruffy. But they were also smooth as silk. And bad-ass mofos when it came to playing live. Total showmen. I saw them a number of times thru the years (dates from 1980-2004) and they ALWAYS put on a helluva show.
Their 1975 "Worldwide Texas Tour" is the stuff of legends.

Hey Diane, ZZ Top was one of the best concerts I’ve ever seen. Back in the day, I saw them at the Chip during the Sturgis motorcycle rally. Just kicking back on my Harley, having an adult beverage with a few thousand bikers is a really great way to see ZZ Top live!!! That was a fun night. :-)

That red car is called The Eliminator, and kind of became ZZ Top's mascot...also, this song wasn't in Back To The Future, but their song Doubleback (and the band themselves!) were in the 3rd BTTF film.
