Jersey girl here...60 years old and I am ashamed to admit that I have never seen him in concert before. BUT... I'm FINALLY going too see him later this month in Philadelphia PA SOOO excited, can't wait !!!
Alfonso Ribeiro used Bruce and Courtney's dancing, along with Eddie Murphy's "the white man's dance" to create "The Carlton Dance" on Fresh Prince. He's said it wasn't intended to be funny but was just the way that Carlton would dance.... but wow, what legendary moves he created! Loved seeing him bring it back on Dancing with the Stars. Great song and even greater reaction btw, this is the kind of song that you just can't sit still for.
I've seen Bruce in concert a couple of times. Once we had our company loge which was right next to one of his side stages. He came down a couple of times and was only about 5 feet away. And I am 73 years old as well.
@DianeJennings way. He recently gifted a state senator with s8me of his doo rags, bc the senator has cancer and is going through chemo. The guy wore them to sessions on the Hill!
0:42 Prince wrote one the top 100 greatest Irish pop songs. Sinead O'Connor covered Nothing Compares 2 U which was written for a Prince side project called The Family. Prince wrote the soundtrack for the 1989 Tim Burton, Batman movie. I would like to recommend the _Prince_ song *Little Red Corvette*
@@DianeJennings you can't really sum up prince in one song bc he was a prolific musical genius and had a lot of different eras, styles, vibes. he wrote hits for other bands/proteges and projects he created as well. his working studio in minnesota is a tourist attraction and they are slowly releasing music he had in a vault that he either never got around to releasing or never really intended to release... enough for probably centuries of albums. even as somewhat of a fan, i don't think i can oversell his impact on music, but there are documentaries for that
the song "1999" is also a good one to check out I happened to be in Minneapolis a few days after Prince died. People had laid a big pile of purple flowers around his star on the 1st Avenue venue. Incidentally, I was there for a Napalm Death show, and someone requested "Little Red Corvette"🤨
I saw Springsteen in 75-76? at a concert bowl in Toronto at the Gardens. An intimate 8K people or so. He played for 6 hours almost non stop. Clarence Clemons was the saxophonist who has an equal amount of energy as Springsteen. Still one of my Best memorable concert experiences.
Bruce was also famous for his _Born to Run_ (1975) and even his modern album _Western Stars_ (2019) is good, though a different style. Happy Richter Scale Day!
This song was released in 1984! I miss those days. I love the pad, and the horn patch sound on the Yamaha CS80 synthesizer. The Sax solo and the gated reverb effect on the snare drum.
Bruce has had a ton of hits, but my favorite song by him is a lesser known one called "Meeting across the River". It's his voice, a piano, and a cornet and that's it.
It's so much fun seeing someone from a younger generation discovering the great music from mine! 😊I just turned 63, yet it seems shocking to think that Bruce is 73 now. 🤯 I love that he's still touring. He has such a huge catalog of great songs like Downbound Train, Tougher Than the Rest, No Surrender, Brilliant Disguise, Streets of Philadelphia, Thunder Road, I'm on Fire, Born to Run, and Born in the USA just to name a few. Much love to you and Chewie! ❤
Diane this is a very poppy version of a Bruce song and not typical of his music. He is considered the poet laureate of my generation much in the same way Bob Dylan was in the sixties. Bruce definitely has a beautiful use of the English language which was not really represented in this song. Try listening to songs like Thunder Road, Jungle land or his most famous song Born to Run to get a sense of the beauty in his lyrics.💚
Dancin' in the Dark is the most "pop" song Bruce ever did, and he did it well. The "Blue Collar Poet" moniker is what fits him best. Once, I was sitting at a neighborhood bar in Lake Oswego, Oregon, when someone sat on the barstool next to me, ordered a drink and asked the bartender about the band playing that night. It was a well-known local band that did two nights a week at this place. The guy then asked if he thought the band would let him sit in for a little. "I'm visiting my in-laws up the road, and I just wanted to get out for a bit." I turned my head and saw that it was BRUCE DAMN SPRINGSTEEN! THE BOSS! The bartender kept his cool, and said that he couldn't speak for the band, but he called Curtis, the front-man over to introduce himself. The Boss played for nearly three hours with this local band filling on a Thursday night. It was epically cool!
My brother was one of those that followed Springsteen for years before this video came out, scratching his head why people were just "discovering" him in 1984. But then again, my bro knew little to nothing about acts I followed, like Journey, ABBA, Donna Summer and The Runaways.
My dear friend has been a Springsteen groupie since he first put the band together. This year alone he’s been to half a dozen concert’s and several times for his Broadway shows. The Boss!!!
He does put on very long concerts. I saw him play in Madrid in 1988 and it was a very long show. For a related choice for a later video, I would suggest "Because the Night" by Patti Smith, which was written by Bruce Springsteen (with a few lyrical changes by Smith).
Must have been the first time I ever consciously listened to this song. I'm very quick to discard stuff as mainstream or hype, maybe I should relax on that about 1,26% so I won't miss things like this. I gotta go back to exploring music again, there was a time when I was known as the guy who knows weird exotic music.Thank you for this little reminder, Diane. Corazón. :)
I saw him ihis past February and he put on a great rock show. He's 73 now and owned the stage like he was 30 years old for almost three hours.. What a great entertainer! He's touring Europe this summer and if you like rock concerts, it'll be a great one to see.
Yep, Courtney Cox before she was super-famous. I imagine the fantasy of being selected from the audience by Bruce Springsteen appealed to a lot of girls and young women. Born in the U.S.A. is one of Springsteen's socially-conscious songs, and one of the most misinterpreted by people who don't listen closely to the lyrics. So far you haven't done any repeats of performers in these reaction videos, but if you ever do, that would be a good one. Bruce Springsteen is one of many great musicians and performers to come from New Jersey. Others include Frank Sinatra, Count Basie, Frankie Valli, Sarah Vaughan, Jon Bon Jovi, Donald Fagen (of Steely Dan), Paul Simon, Debbie Harry (of the band Blondie), Patti Smith, Lauryn Hill, Whitney Houston, Queen Latifah, Dionne Warwick, and Kevin Jonas. Of these, I'd most like for you to react to Paul Simon, Blondie, and Steely Dan. Thanks!
I was thinking that I hadn't heard anything by him, but then I realized that I had heard this song before. Couldn't imagine being pulled up on stage, planned or not. I'd probably freeze from stage fright.
You've never heard Born to Run, Born in the USA even by accident on the radio? The odds of that are mind boggling if you're American unless you're under 35, and even then its hard to believe.
One of the most played videos back on MTV. When they only a video music channel then. That song was from Springsteen's most successful, commercial album Born In The USA.
That sax player, Clarence Clemons, was a member of the E Street Band for many years. He unfortunately passed away in 2011, so his nephew, Jake, has taken his place at many of Bruce's shows since then.
This concert is after Springsteen (or as my rabid fan friend would say Bruuuuuuuuce!) made enough money and was popular enough to afford a trainer. When he started out he was relatively skinny, and def not a "heartthrob". But this was one of his most popular songs along with the non-patriotic, but misinterpreted as such, "Born In The USA". Fun fact: there was a push on in New Jersey to name "Born To Run" as the state anthem. It's another song you could react to! 😀
Prince, especially live, is the most talented musician you will ever experience. He can be a bit odd at times, but musically Ive never seen anyone better. 40+ years of concerts. The only one I regretted not buying better tickets
Way to make me feel old Diane, my brain just had to compute your 50 Bridin. Great blast from the past. I guess my kids have heard all the great eighties cos I've been playing them for all their 20+ years. We Irish do love any and all music.
Alfonso Ribeiro, Fresh Prince of Belair, stated that Courtney’s dance in this video was a huge inspiration in the creation of the Carlton Dance in the show.

Courtney wasn't just pick random out of the audience, she was hired for that. She was already an actress on the TV show"family ties"play Michael j Fox's girlfriend Lauren.
I first saw Bruce Springsteen at a little rock bar in Newark, DE called The Stone Balloon in August 1974. Hardly anybody in the small local crowd that was there had ever heard of him. Three months later he was on the cover of Newsweek magazine after he put out the "Born To Run" single. He took off like a rocket after that... 😎
I am 54 and subscribed, you are a breath of fresh air😊. I really like Bruce's music, and while I really like this song, my favorite is "Tunnel of Love". Clarence Clemons is a GREAT saxophonist...
My introduction to Springsteen was in 1975 when my girlfriend gave me the Born to Run album. I'd never heard anything like it before. BTW you mentioned that he's known for long concerts. I saw him during the tour for his album Born in the USA. He was onstage for 3 hours and 50 minutes. Amazing.
"Born to Run" and "Jungleland" are among my favorites of his. I saw him twice in concert. He is AMAZING! At one concert, it was well after the Born in the USA album. He introduced his next song as "This is for my old fans..." and the Born in the USA fans all cheered...but then the opening lines of Jungleland started. His Born in the USA fans looked confused. And us really old fans went wild.
Bright Angel, I'm glad you enjoyed the song. I always watch your reactions because you're witty, intelligent, and shine like a diamond mixed with a pearl. Thank You for all the hard work you put into your programs; it's greatly appreciated.
I've seen him 4 times but he has fans who have seen him hundreds of times. That video and Courtney Cox dancing with Bruce was done during an actual concert.
Hi Diane! He has done some really good stuff over the years. The first I ever heard of his music were by Manfred Man. He was practically unheard of outside of New Jersey until Manfred Mann covered a few of Bruce's songs. He also did a great collaboration "Because the Night" with Pattie Smith. " The River" is probably my favorite album. Keep Chewie sàfe and healthy and happy, have a good night, I love you and goodbye for now!
Greetings from the Great White North!! First time I saw Bruce and the E Street Band was back in 1974 in Detroit. Last time I saw them, was last month, in Detroit!!! It's been a great 50 year plus ride with Bruce and the boys, and I'm hoping for another 50 more! Been to over 40 shows and have tickets for when he's here in Toronto in November.
First off, I’m from New Jersey. Springsteen is just part of this state, like him or not. I was never the biggest fan, but I liked the first four albums. After college , the company I worked for transferred me to Florida. I was homesick and Bruce came on the radio…. I cried like a baby. As a Jersey boy,… he is part of me.
His concerts were outrageously long. He'd play for about 4 hous sometimes. I went to one of his concerts and felt exhausted by the end. That kind of energy has served him well. I hope to look half as good in my 70s.
I'm glad that you are getting into Music and are exploring different artist. Music can lift a weight off your heart and bring light to your soul. Maybe you can give a listen to Corey Hart's "Sunglasses at Night" or The Eagles "Hotel California".
Bruce Springsteen is the Boss! He had so much influence in 90 's musicians. And still right now we have one of the Best Songwriters in human history kind. THE BOSS!
The video was shot at the St. Paul Civic Center which is now the site of the Xcel Energy Center where the Minnesota Wild play. TMI. I saw his stop on the Born in the USA tour at Alpine Valley Music Theater. He played for three hours and it was one of the greatest performances I've ever seen.

Fun Fact- The guitar player at 2:42 and 3:46 is Steven Van Zandt, “Silvio” from the tv show The Sopranos.
No way!!
@DianeJennings way. He recently gifted a state senator with s8me of his doo rags, bc the senator has cancer and is going through chemo. The guy wore them to sessions on the Hill!
Baby, I totally dig your channel after finding it recently and I'm 66.
Never a Springsteen fan but this and "Born In The USA" are brilliant. 😎
I never knew he wrote that!
@@DianeJennings you can't really sum up prince in one song bc he was a prolific musical genius and had a lot of different eras, styles, vibes. he wrote hits for other bands/proteges and projects he created as well. his working studio in minnesota is a tourist attraction and they are slowly releasing music he had in a vault that he either never got around to releasing or never really intended to release... enough for probably centuries of albums. even as somewhat of a fan, i don't think i can oversell his impact on music, but there are documentaries for that
@DianeJennings Prince could make you pray in one song, and rip off your clothes in the next
@@foxpaw1and with all of that, it was very common in Minneapolis to see him in the neighborhood, riding his bike to the music store
the song "1999" is also a good one to check out
I happened to be in Minneapolis a few days after Prince died.
Hi Diane! When I die, I want to be buried with my old records. It'll be my vinyl resting place. Happy Wednesday!
😂 this one took me a second
The BOSS. Quintessential Americana. The hair, white t, jeans, bopping along.
He has such a huge catalog of great songs like Downbound Train,
Tougher Than the Rest, No Surrender, Brilliant Disguise, Streets of Philadelphia, Thunder Road, I'm on Fire, Born to Run, and Born in the USA just to name a few. Much love to you and Chewie! ❤
I’d have chosen this song to introduce someone to Springsteen. Very fun & upbeat.
The screen door slams, and Mary's dress sways. Like a vision she dances across the porch and the radio plays Roy Orbison singing for the lonely ...
Your brother has better taste than you.
That’s really cool! I think he does being a lot?
Love that song and she is definitely her own person.
I love your analogy of the "metaphor" 🍩🍆... true, but hilarious. So many good songs from The Boss.
Teehee 🤭
Must have been the first time I ever consciously listened to this song. I'm very quick to discard stuff as mainstream or hype, maybe I should relax on that about 1,26% so I won't miss things like this. I gotta go back to exploring music again, there was a time when I was known as the guy who knows weird exotic music.Thank you for this little reminder, Diane. Corazón. :)
I know EXACTLY what you mean!!!
Great comment and sentiment. We should always go back to our roots every now and then.
The music helps, but it's the lyrics, what he's saying, the imagery. I know I've felt the way he describes here. Lots of times.
Thanks!
I think everybody has daydreamed that situation right? So cool
Saw Bruce last month. 3 hours of bliss!!!
I was thinking that I hadn't heard anything by him, but then I realized that I had heard this song before. Couldn't imagine being pulled up on stage, planned or not. I'd probably freeze from stage fright.
Haha there are 2 types of people 😂
@@DianeJennings Bob Seger is vastly better then Bruce Springsteen. You should check out, "Bob Seger I Knew You When".
He didnt know she was a plant, or an actress.
@@morrigankasa570
Lmao, you've got to be kidding 😂
You've never heard Born to Run, Born in the USA even by accident on the radio? The odds of that are mind boggling if you're American unless you're under 35, and even then its hard to believe.
One of the most played videos back on MTV. When they only a video music channel then. That song was from Springsteen's most successful, commercial album Born In The USA.
The great Clarence Clemens on saxophone passed away several years ago. 😢
😢
Good suggestion!
@DianeJennings look up the story he told on Graham Norton about being invited to a fan's house
I really appreciate you and the humor you put in your video. Great job...
Alfonso Ribeiro, Fresh Prince of Belair, stated that Courtney’s dance in this video was a huge inspiration in the creation of the Carlton Dance in the show.
courtney said in an interview that she didn't know which way to dance up on the stage so she copied bruce's moves. so alfonzo got the ''carlton'' from bruce's dancing.
The best thing to come out of the State of New Jersey!
As a vocal coach, you need to join the countless other vocal coaches who have reacted to Haley Reinhart with postmodern jukebox cover of"creep". All the vocal coaches have a Haley-gasm over her. Her cover has 114 million views, 58 weeks top Billboard jazz chart and is critically acclaimed. Haley is a master vocals technician that will blow your mind
Post Modern jukebox has some great songs. I really like their Dream On."
It's one of my favorite videos. She's absolutely amazing.
I have always loved the Tougher Than The Rest from Tunnel Of Love .. :) especially when Bruce soloed it in piano live ..
Courtney wasn't just pick random out of the audience, she was hired for that. She was already an actress on the TV show"family ties"play Michael j Fox's girlfriend Lauren.
Springsteen video was 1984. Family Ties role was 1987.
@@prairiedoug858 Agreed, it was her appearance on the stage with Bruce that got her into tv. This is well documented.
Loved his music when it first came out and still love it today. Can’t help but dance when I hear it.
Dancing in the Dark is a great song. I love watching you listing to a singer or band for the first time.
Bruce is on tour right now, headed to Europe with 3 shows in Dublin. He is a very beloved American icon.
Thank-you for another great video, I like seeing you get into the music!
I’m enjoying it too! Thanks!
BRUCE puts more into one song than most artist do for a whole album.
Still rocking hard. His concerts are phenomenal and 3+ hours. One of the best &I’ve ever seen!
Was at this concert in 1984. It was awesome!
How is it humanly possible to have never heard Bruce Springsteen before??? Incredible.
I really like your content Diane!
I look forward to your wit and fun energy.
His concerts were outrageously long. He'd play for about 4 hous sometimes. I went to one of his concerts and felt exhausted by the end. That kind of energy has served him well. I hope to look half as good in my 70s.
His concert in Seattle in February 2023 was over 3 and a half hours. He has a huge catalog so he has the hits to fill in the space.
1985 is the first time I saw him in concert. Great show.
Classic song from a class act. And a great reaction. Not much input right away. Just grooving to the music. Can tell you totally enjoyed it.
I keep missing the first hour lately, I just hope Diane knows I love watching her reactions and dancing to songs I grew up with.
I love this song!
Also gurl... Prince!
Okie dokie! Any building updates for us?
@@DianeJennings soon! I promise
Thank you for explaining who Courtney Cox was, I'd never heard of her before.
That entire "Born in the USA" album is amazing. Definitely check out the rest. Bruce is a legend for a very good reason.
I believe 8 or 9 songs were released as singles.
My sister met Springsteen once, years ago, on vacation. She says he was a really nice guy, very down to earth.
Springsteen also wrote because the night. There are a number of you tube videos of him performing it live. Well worth a view
Saw Bruce 7 times starting in 1977 at Ohio State. He is incredible in concert, and you are filled with energy, and if he comes to Ireland, go see him.
Springsteen was a class act, I graduated in 1982, my last name is Springstube, so Bruce might be German, he is hard working artist, my Mom is Scotts Irish, so I also live Simple minds from Belfast. I enjoy your videos. Thanks
Commenting is fun because we can say hello! to adorable Chewie!!! and send Editor Diane a smile 🥰for all her hard work behind the scenes.
