Im gonna say maybe an unpopular opinion. Kiss is highly underrated! Yea underrated. Great songs…. Stamina… longevity…. Great vocal duo and so much FUN!!!
They started in the early 70s and the reason they went with the wild look and the makeup is that they wanted to put together a show that would blow everybody's mind. Then in the 80s, as they evolved, they decided to drop all that and perform as a straight ahead rock band. This was the MTV Unplugged special that spearheaded Paul's and Gene's reunion with original members Ace and Peter (lead guitar and drums, respectively). The reunion brought back the costumes and makeup which they've kept ever since, despite Ace and Peter leaving the band a second time. They've had a few turkeys, but for the most part they've put out a lot of phenomenal music over the years. They definitely have A LOT more talent than some people give them credit for.

I watched this Live back in the day on MTV...it aired after my day at work and I went to my fridge and grabbed a beer ... flopped on the sofa and instantly it aired...perfect timing and a great memory
This was a fun show, debuted on Halloween night on MTV Unplugged. For a brief time, at the end of the show, there were 6 KISS members as Ace and Peter joined Paul, Gene, Eric and Bruce on stage.
I've been a KISS fan for over 40 years, and I loved this period of the band. Paul's voice has always been amazing and you can see it here. There's another short video of Paul during Farewell tour live in Providence doing I Still Love you , electric version really shows off his voice again.
I love kiss and am a huge Gene Simmons fan I started playing bass as a kid because of him and Lemmy but as I got older and better I starting learning is Gene is a not a good bass player at all I still love him them but he ain't no Less Claypool or Flea
@@gregtroyan Paul McCartney is amazing. I am a huge metal and punk fan and tend to enjoy a very heavy and ugly sound. I also enjoy Geddy Lee. There are some amazing bassists in metal that I love but it's mainly extreme metal like Alex Webster from Cannibal Corpse I like how he uses all three fingers while plucking
Pauls vocals were pre recorded for the farewell tour, all their recent tours. He lost his trademark range, by 2000. Any kiss fan can tell that, hell. Paul admits it now. Its why he isnt doing new kiss material, but his soul music. One of the best voices in rock, but, in his 70s, he cant sing like he did in his 20s-40s. This unplugged performance was the mecca for fans. It was the reunion and everyone was at their best.
@@janes.1559 - The End of the Road Tour from 2019 to present is the only one where Paul used pre-recorded vocals (even though his voice started to go in 2004). In 2000 he still had most of his range and still sounded great. He had some issues on some dates of the 2004 Rock The Nation tour, and he pushed through it - something he would continue to do over the next several years, absolutely shredding his voice.
Paul is the man! Power and soul in his voice. No matter what he sounds like today, nobody can take away what this man did for Rock and Roll. Funny thing is, in the 70's and at the top of the bands career Paul was a pretty good vocalist, but in the 80's Paul really ramped himself up to become a great vocalist!
people are so niave over 100 million records sold still going after 48 years and still have the best live shows ever and back in the day tight as can be, All 4 of the origials are great musicians and who ever says they cant sing really need to listen to this.
OH MY GOD! Im a huge kiss fan! So much so that I have tickets to four of their upcoming Australian shows costing me roughly $2500 but I've never listened to this song ever before but I instantly love it!! Thank you so much for introducing me to this amazing song.
Omg! I love this song!! kiss has many amazing ballads like "forever", "god get rock 'n roll to you", "Beth", "nothing can keep me from you", "sure know something" etc
It’s crazy you said Paul could sing R&B because he grew up listening and loving Motown and all it’s artist so he is R&B in his heart. Paul also has a R&B album out now in his 60s which I listen to every time I get into my car because he kills it and it’s so soothing with songs that takes me back to my childhood and I sing right along with him lol. Paul’s voice in those days was so underrated and unappreciated but IMO he had one of the best voices in Rock. I love your reaction and I appreciate that you know and love great music. 🙏❤️
I don't listen to Kiss much anymore but....when I do, it's like a trip down memory lane and all the memories of good times with friends had back in the day. They may be gone but not forgotten.
Growing up with kiss as my favourite band my entire life, and watching your 1st time reactions Enjoy the band makes me Enjoy their music through fresh eyes thank you!
They’re talented musicians and they have always had the best playing with them as a part of their different versions throughout the years. Some masters of their instruments.
This is the best example of KISS at its best. This lineup is easily the most talented and it’s because the makeup was gone and the music really needed to carry them. I don’t think anybody could watch this and be able to deny how talented KISS and Paul Stanley specifically are.
Makeup didn't make a difference. True fans understand that. They have always been this good. just some ppl can't see past their own ignorance and understand KISS has always been more then what you saw it was more about what your heard. The music is a bit immature but it still holds up against anything modern by leaps and bounds.
Here are some cool songs that guys like me who caught on to them back in the beginning loved and why they grew to be big in the first place. These are older songs off early albums but boy do they rock. "100,000 Years", "Rock Bottom", "Watching You", "Cold Gin", "Firehouse", "Parasite" "Black Diamond"
A few years after this MTV Unplugged performance, he took on the role of Phantom of the opera. Yes. Paul Stanley of KISS was an opera singer and was the phantom of the opera. So anyone who thinks rock stars can't sing, Paul Stanley proves you wrong.
I'd never heard this song and damn. It's pretty good. I'm a huge metal head but KISS is a band that never grabbed me. Maybe they have now. This is why The Adventures of TNT is so much fun. I'm hearing new tunes, too. Squawk n' Roll!
He wrote this song about his girlfriend Donna Dixon (a big TV star in the 80s)! He was watching the news and saw she was getting married to Dan Akroid. Paul didn’t even know she had broke up with him or was dating Dan! It was a huge shock to learn on TV
I loved this reaction, you guys have watched the absolute best version of this song from the UNPLUGGED session, this song is one of my fave KISS songs but this is the best version of it, just raw and pure........Love you guys from Australia xoxoxo
You should hear Paul song this from his solo album (One Live Kiss). That version will give you goosebumps. He really sings from his soul. You can tell he's thinking of someone that was once very special to him.Very intense and sung with much emotion.
I agree. The One Live (IMO) is maybe not a "better" version than this one. But it definitely is possibly the most heartfelt. I admit to being a bit biased, & will always prefer the original studio version. But it's the first one I heard (having bought Creatures as soon as it was released). Not to mention that at the time, the song spoke to my own feelings as I was trying to get back the woman that I was heart & soul in love with.
I love your reaction to this! You guys can really see and understand the true talent KISS has! Please watch and react to more KISS especially some live footage from 1976 and 1977!!
This song is about actress Donna Dixon with whom Paul had a relationship going and she kept the fact that she was dating (and eventually married) Dan Ackroid behind his back a secret from him. That thing of "Singing it like you lived it" certainly applies to Paul here.
Gotta see them live in concert. The fans are on their feet from the minute the band plays the first note of the first song til the end. Paul Stanley even tour for a bit with the Phantom Of The Opera tour group. He played the Phantom
Wow, Thank you, THANK YOU for reacting to this!! So glad . Would like for you to back track and watch this whole show. Would love to hear your thoughts.
I’m a huge fan of Kiss for their hard rock but I love the unplugged album! It’s full of really good songs and most people won’t even believe you that’s it’s actually Kiss. Lol
This whole acoustic set was great. Gotta watch it in its entirety. This was where they did the reunion that started their takeover reunion tour with makeup from 1980 to 1996 they preformed without makeup
Thank you two for this reaction. I've been a huge Kiss fan for a long time and its pleasing to see someone giving them the credit they deserve for their music. By the way I enjoy your other reactions as well. You guys are great.
After over 40yrs, they still sell. What happened to all them, “boy bands?” Long and forgotten! The ones that have shit to say about KISS? It’s called jealous. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
You should provide a little more context to people saying they "suck". More recently Paul's voice has been shot and so that greatly impacts how they sound live, but outside of the last decade, they have been fantastic. Every Kiss fan will tell you this concert here, is one of the greatest things Kiss has ever done, and the best Paul has ever sounded, this show is iconic.
"I was made for loving you". KISS Alive IV symphony in Australia. KISS, Sydney, and the Melbourne symphony orchestra had one hec of a rock n roll party that night.
Exactly let the haters hate. Kiss are living legends. They made their mark in music globally. Thank you Kiss for all the memories. Rock on amazing brother's your legacy is intact ❣️🔥🔥🔥🤘
Revisiting this reaction vid a year later. Still delivers ❤ KISS's detractors tend to get hung up on the makeup and can't recognize the real talent. Sucks to be them.
Great reaction guys. Been my favorite band since my dad bought me "Rock and Roll Over" for my 4th birthday. I've seen them 19 times, been to hundreds of concerts and there's not another band that comes close in concert.
Man... I really kind of wish you both grew up with me in Montreal in the 80s, discovering this awesomeness together. I love your reactions. "T", you the man for sure... you *totally* get it. On the flip side, yes I love rock and metal... but somehow my path has also lead me to Seal, Jon Batiste and others, which I love. Thanks for these reactions... they're really entertaining. :D
Actually he bought this song from Vinnie Vincent - and added a part or two - it’s every clear from the chords and lyrics who wrote it - but nonetheless Paul slayed the vocal here!
Been a KISS fan for.... well i dint ever remember not being a KISS fan. I was born in 1974 gad the great pleasure of seeing them 3 times. They have made lots of great music. Check out their solo albums. They also put on tge best live show ever
this was from an MTV concert, and at the end, brought back two original members to play, Ace and Peter. this was a great time in their career. back in 1988 my high school had a lip sync and my three friend did KISS Detroit rock City in make up, we came in second place, the following semester, they had again but with the second high school in our town. we were asked by the teacher in charge to do the same act again. we wanted to do different song, since it was two day event, one for fun, one for voting, they let us pick second song for the fun night. we picked I love it loud, the teacher said it wasnt good enough? so we were slow to give new song, we took beginning of Beth, and at pause in song went into Love gun.. the guy on drums was on top of a stage piece that was part of the stage craft class.. he came walking down lip singing Beth, tossed two roses out to audience (one to the VP of school) then got back to his drums right when the break between happened, and into love gun... crowd went crazy!! sorry reliving my glory days... I wish we had video of this day...
When you tour as relentlessly as they did, year in, year out, you get VERY good at what you do. One thing to consider-he is playing rhythm guitar as well as singing like that. In 1999 Paul played one of the last Phantoms of the Opera. No one sounds like Paul Stanley.
Our Patron Greg is also a reactor. Check out his channel and show him some love. Let him know TNT sent'cha: ruclips.net/channel/UClFFcZDo9Jd8cFYmk7qrKXQ
Black diamond, live. In their prime, through the 80s, great band, best live band. After the first reunion tour, they lost their mojo, but for decades and so many classics, hard and soft. KISS was amazing. Paul has a soul, r/b lp and he did Broadway.
Let the haters hate. Few bands have done what kiss has. I still love them. Kiss army rules
I still lovvvvve them...
too
Man I wish I had my KISS ARMY tank top circa 1980. I was 5 , so it probably wouldn't fit, but I had no clue of the history I was witnessing.
Glad you said it. I'd type a novel to say the same thing. Thank You.

Straight up banger...KISS: I've Had Enough! Mic Drop!
The band absolutely shreds on that song......one of my favs. I'm pretty sure they played it when I saw them in '85
@@FreeMTrider Unfortunantly they played the song just on the European leg of the Animalize tour in '84.
After over 40yrs, they still sell. What happened to all them, “boy bands?” Long and forgotten! The ones that have shit to say about KISS? It’s called jealous. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
KISS RULES!!!!!!!!
You should provide a little more context to people saying they "suck". More recently Paul's voice
has been shot and so that greatly impacts how they sound live, but outside of the last decade,
they have been fantastic. Every Kiss fan will tell you this concert here, is one of the greatest
things Kiss has ever done, and the best Paul has ever sounded, this show is iconic.
yeah, that vocal cord surgery really messed his voice up. Too Bad, but he still puts on a great show.
A more recent and heavy KISS song is "Within" which is a Gene song from the "Psycho Circus" album from 1998. It's a very under-rated KISS song.
You guys are killing it! You have so many different kinds of songs and you give them all a chance! I love your channel!!! Youre good people!!!
Revisiting this reaction vid a year later.
Still delivers ❤
KISS's detractors tend to get hung up on the makeup and can't recognize the real talent.
Paul wrote this song after a breakup with a beautiful lady. This came from his heart and he killed it.
Who wants to be lonely! Thrills in the night!
this was from an MTV concert, and at the end, brought back two original members to play, Ace and Peter. this was a great time in their career. back in 1988 my high school had a lip sync and my three friend did KISS Detroit rock City in make up, we came in second place, the following semester, they had again but with the second high school in our town. we were asked by the teacher in charge to do the same act again. we wanted to do different song, since it was two day event, one for fun, one for voting, they let us pick second song for the fun night. we picked I love it loud, the teacher said it wasnt good enough? so we were slow to give new song, we took beginning of Beth, and at pause in song went into Love gun.. the guy on drums was on top of a stage piece that was part of the stage craft class.. he came walking down lip singing Beth, tossed two roses out to audience (one to the VP of school) then got back to his drums right when the break between happened, and into love gun... crowd went crazy!! sorry reliving my glory days... I wish we had video of this day...
"Paul Stanley's got a voice!" Yep. And, to think, he only has one ear, too.
I just saw them a couple weeks ago they still know how to put on a great show.
amazing band.great musicians.god gave rock and roll to you .please
You guys have got to watch the whole KISS MTV Unplugged show, you will not be disappointed.
Let him know TNT sent'cha: ruclips.net/channel/UClFFcZDo9Jd8cFYmk7qrKXQ
ask any black metal band who influenced them and they all say KISS!!!....their influence on Metal is undeniable!!!
Best line up, musically speaking. #1 Kiss song.
Very true for someone as old and still giving that 110% you have to respect
Seen them more than any other band! 7 times and never gets old!
dificil no emocionarse con la gran voz de Paul y gran tema de la legendaria banda Kiss
Black diamond, live. In their prime, through the 80s, great band, best live band. After the first reunion tour, they lost their mojo, but for decades and so many classics, hard and soft. KISS was amazing. Paul has a soul, r/b lp and he did Broadway.
This is my favorite reaction to this song, i have met all original members, plus eric carr and bruce kulick
