      Watch the other videos from the event, he's constantly kicking, biting and chasing the other horses in his pen, you can even see it at the beginnging of this video (around 00:15, he kicks the dark horse). I think he's very defensive about food. Maybe it's due to the stressful situation and he's completely different in another environment but I can understand if people don't want to risk having a horse like that in their herd.

    Not adopting is the hard part but remembering our limits is the best thing we can do for ourselves and our current horses. I have 3 mustangs, two that I am riding and one that I need to get saddle started. The one that isn’t saddle started yet is 3 years old and I’ve had her since she was 11 months old. So I tell myself I can’t have another one until she is under saddle and being ridden consistently. Haha

    You mentioned brand or chip? So are the BLM branded but not chipped? And if they're not also chipped I'd imagine you'd have to wait until you held the title to have it chipped?

    • @TheProjectEquestrian
      @TheProjectEquestrian  9 месяцев назад +5

      BLM mustangs are branded and microchipped, though I can’t remember off the top of my head when it was they added microchipping. But it was helpful during Raven’s titling appointment when my vet had trouble reading her brand - if I remember right, he might have scanned her microchip instead
      Some mustangs are managed by the US Forest Service, and they just microchip their mustangs.

    WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE MAY ONLINE ADOPTIONS FROM Rock Springs????? There are numerous horses with $25,000 down to $2000. Can bidders back out? What would be the purpose? Some of these horses are larger hands but many are under 15 and basic sorrel or bay. What do you think is the reason?

      @@TheProjectEquestrian Still, I really appreciate knowing that other Canadians have done this, it gives me hope that I can potentially make it happen for myself someday. 🥹 I really feel that after a lot of training and bonding a mustang could eventually make the perfect backcountry trail companion since being surefooted is so important to their survival out in the wild. ❤️

    I'm in Alpine ca. I have 7.9 acres however it's in the mountains I plan on building a corral on approximately 1/2 an acre where it is suitable for the horse. I helped tame a bay quarter horse when I was twenty four years old however that's a long time ago I am now 57 years young lol 😢 so I have had neck and back injuries from construction. I would still like to own and ride a horse. I have a good job and make good money which I know horses can be expensive and don't currently have a horse trailer. Most of the adoptions you show are back east, or in other states and shipping would cost almost as much as buying a trailer. Are there any places to adopt in California or close to San Diego? I'm
    40 miles from Mexico.

    I have a “three strikes” mustang. And I don’t mean he was offered for adoption three times, and nobody took him. I mean three owners adopted him from the BLM, took him home, and then rejected him. I think owner #2 abused him. 3+ years, infinite patience, and a small fortune on lessons, and he is a real pleasure to work with. We do all kinds of groundwork at liberty. We ride bareback with a halter. He has gone from the most difficult horse I’ve ever known to the easiest horse I ever worked with. What a journey!

    • @TheProjectEquestrian
      @TheProjectEquestrian  29 дней назад

    • @acaciawilliams9015

      They are feral, not wild. The landscape cannot always support their numbers so the BLM attempts to adopt enough of them out to keep them from starving or upsetting the local ecosystem. (Though we could spend some time talking about how free range cattle impact local ecosystems. But then again we could spend more time talking about factory farming, soooo...)
