I went to a blm auction back in the early 90's in Apache Junction Az. The donkeys were all being sold for 10 to 20 dollars a peice. I went to just observe as I was already at my zoning limit with 2 horses at my place. There was a donkey up for adoption who had lost its ears to frostbite that just broke my heart. I left miserable and I've never forgotten that beautiful donkey.

There was a 32 year old donkey, looked like an old man. We fell in love with him and we wanted him to live out his best life here in the ranch. Everyone was bidding so high in them we couldn’t go as high. I hope he is doing well and is spoiled;) thanks for sharing;)

Sometimes it's better to do a IA where we got two of our Mustangs from paid $185.00 for my Grulla mare and paid $300.00 for my husband's Gelding. Then we got a bay roan Filly for $125.00 and a wild Burro for $125.00. We just got a Sales Authority 12yr old Gelding for $25.00. You just have to know where to look for them and when. We are doing a Tip Challenge this year on MI. We can't wait. Thank you for sharing. God Bless.

The mustangs are beautiful. I would have been having a bid on the grey, in the pen before you fussed the lovely chestnut.
However getting a horse from the wild, well you got to invest. Time, Food, Farrier, medication(worming),vet care. You have to be prepared to start this all on an unhandled animal.
Thanks for sharing your story but people need to understand, that there is no cheap way of buying a horse.

Pamila . I don't like to see them taken from the range . But there is more money I. Cattle and sheep grazing than wild horses and wild life . The horses get the short end of the stick I agree. But they don't care what you and me think . The will always be rounded up by blm . It's. Better if they can find a home instead of the holding pens. We can't blame the rancher for it all , it is how they make there living out there . If I had followed the path that I wish I did I would be a rancher out west also . I love the life . I am in ark and raise a bunch of goats . When I get more land I will get a few to have .

That’s so awesome!! As you see the burros auctioned for a lot of $ because you only need a 4.5 ft fence to adopt one. That makes it an easy set up for anyone. It is sad though, most people are only doing the burros for money;(

Im in uk - wish we could take couple to give good home but sadly the transport costs would be inhibitive & ofcourse these are wild babies so not able to travel safely by plane anyway but it is such a shame as so many more could escape these facilities if it was an option to knowledgable homes. Thankyou to anyone who gets these horses & burrows providing the homes their going to are commited & know enough for training these are not domesticated they are wild & need skilled hands for success .

    • @annaw1298
      @annaw1298 3 года назад

Because the UK is rabies free, I doubt these animals who have never been vaccinated would be allowed in. Even animals that have been vaccinated against rabies for years have trouble getting into the UK if their paperwork is off. The animal would likely have a long quarantine period and that might be stressful for a wild animal.

@@janetcrisis1704 families get broken apart in the wild too. They do not always stay in the same family group their entire lives. Young stallions get pushed out of the herd. The band stallion gets replaced when he can no longer win fights with other stallions. Sometimes a stallion gets injured and/or dies and bachelor stallions will drive off the mares and split them up while claiming them for themselves. The wild is not some Disney movie where all animals live together un peace happily ever after. The wild is a brutal and dangerous place.

Please help, I don't know what to do.
There is a Mustang being passed around from place to place because no one wanted her. From what I understand, she was abused by being shocked with a cattle prod over and over again because she would not behave like a "normal" horse (whatever that means) That was her FIRST "owner from what was said. Then she was dropped off in someone field then another thought they'd take her but she ended up to be too much for them too. Poor baby girl. The first time I seen her, she looked like she was bit eating much at all and was in a small piece of property that was overrun by chickens. There was another horse with her that looked like she was ready to die.
I was told NOT to tell anyone but this needs to stop! She has since then gone to another lady that grew up raising horses and "teased" about sending her to slaughter because she always acted up.
What do I do and who do I contact? She is a sweetheart when you approach her with kindness but are there not rules in the BLM these horses so this garbage does not happen?

What people need to understand is that Mustangs are now purebreds!!! In any breed 4 generations usually constitutes a purebred. Since Mustangs have been untouched and only cross with other mustangs in their region or HMA( Home management area)and have been wild well past 4 generations, they are now a pure breed in each and every HMA! It's like with the welsh ponies... they're all welsh, but they are sorted by their size in A, B, C, and D classifications while Mustangs have different HMAs, so each home range has a different type, but they have all been enough generations to make them purebreds, just like ranch raised horses

Mustangs are thinking equines. Nothing like a domestic horse. I've studied horse behavior for years.
A mismanaged organization has been in effect for 40 plus years.
Adoption is a double edged sword. So is the programs involving wild horses and burros.
Before anyone getting such a horse. Please research before adopting. Mustangs live 25 plus years. They require great care and workmanship.
Being mindful gives and adoptee well needed information.

Just wanted you to know that wild horses are descendants of the wild horses that evolved here and nowhere else for 56 million years. Many in the west, including indigenous peoples know they never went extinct and then were brought back by the Spanish. They are very much a native wildlife species either way and they don’t belong in livestock situations.

Erin Tubb they are at a minimum, a returned native species being that they evolved here and nowhere else for 56 million years. The extinction theory is just that, a theory. The timeline of that extinction period where the species was believed to have been gone from this continent has been shortened several times because of the fossil finds and subsequent mDNA studies. Additionally if you look at historic data from other sources there is evidence that horses never went extinct. One such source would be the Book of Mormon which mentions horses several times during the period they are theorized to have been extinct. Additionally the oral histories and cave drawings of indigenous people prove hors3s were here prior to Spanish Conquistadors. But, as I stated earlier, even if you disbelieve the proof and you believe the extinction theory, you must realize that the horse that is theorized to have gone extinct at the end of the Pliocene Epoch is the same horse that exists today. No new genus of horse evolved during the period of time. Equus Simplicidens was the horse that was here at the end of the Pleistocene era and is theorized to have crossed the Bering Land Bridge then or at the beginning of the Holocene and it it the same genus we have today.
