I have used both - S22 entry level 😀. S22 is much more premium and better hardware but pixel has significantly better battery. I personally prefer Pixel 7.
Battery life on S22 makes it a non starter for me. While I prefer a smaller phone, the Pixel 7 isn't substantially larger. As for the cameras, Pixel cameras continue to improve, thanks to software upgrades. A Pixel 4 will take comparable pictures to a Pixel 7 thanks to that AI software. Samsung cameras are about as good as they will ever get. Add the call screening and I'll take Pixel over any Samsung product.
Nice! And I agree the S22's battery life is just plain bad. I will say though that Samsung does continue to update the camera software/firmware which historically has improved over time. I've got another video showcasing the S10e vs the S22 and it's surprising how much better the S10e got over the three years that I had it. The S22's camera is improved now over when I got it. Not saying you're wrong about Pixel's continuing to improve as well.
Even for me it was an easy choice to go with the pixel.Much better battery life, the unique design and the pixel features make it a better option for me without even considering the lower price
I am using S22, Battery life is not that great (at Home) but for Outdoor really a Powerbank is necessary, but still other features like Camera, UI experience, Small Form-factor and Call-recording made me buy this, also I am a light user of phones, just to make calls/messages, clicking photos or casual Browsing.
You did not mention the price comparison which is a big factor. With Black Friday sale, the Pixel 7 is $100 off putting it at $499 plus trade-in of current phone. I love my new Pixel 7. Getting $325 trade-in for my old phone so this puts out of pocket just a little over $200.
You're right, I left out the budget numbers here because they are hard to judge - and it depends where you are in the world. Another big factor is which carrier you have and if you have a trade in. I was able to get the S22 at launch for just $400 by signing up for Google Fi and there are even better carrier deals available now. But I agree that if you're looking at the retail prices, the Pixel 7 is the better value!
Once you get a Samsung flagship I have the ultra and you use good luck and get used to the theme store I think my phone all year round by the month what holiday itbis once you have good luck in the theme engine it's hard to go away from Sammy
I am an iPhone user, deep into the ecosystem. Occasionally, I buy an Android phone to play with. Some apps work better on Android. I bought the Pixel 6 when the Pixel 7 was released. I didn't regret it but the Pixel 6 had a lot of flaws that were annoying. With the black Friday deals, I traded my Pixel 6 for a Pixel 7 for pretty much nothing. Pixel 7 was the phone that the pixel 6 should have been. Everything seeym to be fixed. Fingerprint reader and face unlock works flawless. The PTP usb protocol actually works to import photo to my Mac. Wireless charger actually charges now.
I use the 13 Pro. I picked up the Pixel 7 with a trade in of another phone. I find the fingerprint sensor inconsistent and very annoying. Other than that, I like the phone. Were I to switch back to Android, as I just might do next year, I'll likely be drawn to the S23 Ultra as I've always been a fan of the Note series. My last was the Note 9. I've been in the ecosystem for 4 years now.
It's really up to you to structure these comparaisons however you feel is most relevant to you, but one thing I would consider changing would be to separate the Design/Display category in 2, and then combine the Display/Fingerprint/Speaker into one "Interface" or "Hardware" category. The reasoning behind this is quite personal, but I feel that Design is a full category in itself: you look at the phone all day long so it really matters what it looks and feels like. And then you can talk about the interface between the user and the phone (screen, biometrics, sound, ports, etc.) and the hardware specs of all those. Anyways, that's just my opinion, and this was a really great video! We can tell that you put a lot of effort into it, and we appreciate it!
Same situation here. My S9+ is still amazing and got everything I need. Intuitively I don't really want to upgrade, but the time has come as the battery is becoming a major concern (I charge it 2 times a day, and 14% is the new 0, where battery dies).
I am returning the Pixel 7 because it is not supporting screen mirroring unless you buy a Chromecast device separately or have a chrome TV. If that doesn't bother you, you may wait until 2023 when Pixel 7a will be released with the compact 6.0`` display.
I'm going to be switching to either phone, but I'm leaning towards the S22 after your great and thorough review! I have a One Plus 8T and have been having issues (this is the second 8T I've had now) with calls dropping and messages not sending, etc. I think this would be a better android option!

Bro, I'm thinking of buying pixel, but the only issue which is stopping me is the service center, what will you do if the phone demands a service, what if it accidentally breaks ?
On Pixel 4a5g there is a setting in Accessibility which allows you to balance the sound between the top and bottom speakers to your liking. Is this not available on P7?
Oh, I wasn't aware of that. I had to return the Pixel I had for the review so I'm not able to test it but certainly something I'll look for in the future!
This comparison seems very biased to me. Leaning very very heavily towards Samsung from the very start. I don't think this was a fair comparison. It seems more like you favor the Samsung because you are use to it which is no way to vs compare devices impartially.
@@JohnScottB I think it came down to John liking the size of the phone from the start. So in the end it was this aspect that was big in the decision, in other words if it was close size would be the deciding factor.
Maybe it's an age thing, but as I get older I really struggle with the larger phones. Hence I'm interested in this review as I'm looking at switching to the s23 from a pixel 6. Thank you John for the video.
after everything you said, i would hve gone for the s22 but that battery makes it out of the question. the cameras look similar though. can a different battery be put in the s22 after market?
@@JohnScottB i understand. but coming from a phone that I have to charge 3 times a day, I am kinda done with that. Its sad that they dont have a plus size model with the same specs and a bigger battery. The plus that they have is a minus on my bank balance
Not a bad take... but I would call the Nexus 6P more of a camera bar that goes across the full width of the phone. The "visor" design specifically means that it wraps around the side as well, which was new on the PIxel 6.
I was a Samsung fan for years but gave the Pixel 6 Pro a go and love the smoothness, the UI and the battery but after updates and many bugs I went to the Pixel 7 Pro and I gotta say, this is the best phone I've ever used. Can't beat the software and the camera. But I still love Samsung Hardware, they just feel expensive.
I have to agree 100% with you. I used to be a Samsung fan for years, then switched over with the release of the Pixel 4XL. Although it was a bit of a difficult transition process, price wise I wasn't going to switch back to Samsung. I waited till the Pixel 6 Pro dropped and although many people experienced lots of issues with it, I must have been one of the few that didn't making the Pixel my #1 choice. Then the Pixel 7 Pro came out, traded my Pixel 6 Pro ($550 trade in value) ended up paying only $250, can't complain there and it's even better than the Pixel 6. Definitely not going back to Samsung again
It is frustrating that the general public doesn't understand that you will get better general overall performance with a throttle chip in most mobile devices, along with improved battery life.
great review.. but you forgot one more category... PRICE . i do agree that Samsung galaxy has a better screen (more saturated.. vibrant) and I miss that.. but i'm coming from a S10e, and got the Pixel 7 on black friday for 400$.... cant beat that price.
Yeah I left out price intentionally because with all the different carrier deals, and depending on where you're at in the world the price can vary wildly. Pixel 7 is a great value and is generally cheaper than the S22. That said, I also bought my S22 at launch for $400 because of a Google Fi deal, so there you go...
@@a.s.m.shahidullahshihab6187 I mean, did you watch the video? All my thoughts are there. That said, check out my other video of the S22 vs S23. The S23 is way better than the S22.
Both have good camera photos, but the quality from Pixel 7 is the S22 in perfection :) But when you look at the hardware.. screen..build quality and so on, the S22 is such a nice device. mmh if i could get one for free i would decide for the S22. Sry for the bad english
What is the pixel 7 screen display brightness at standard manual brightness ( where you adjust your brightness slider yourself- not auto peak brightness), I gather it's not 1000 nits ? 460 nits maybe ? I do prefer the look of the Samsung, the pixel 7 looks too shiny and tacky , although pixels offer a nice user experience. The pixel isn't quite as polished as Samsung or Apple ( higher end models ) although it's shiny .
Finally someone who appreciates smaller phones even with large hands 😅..my hands arent big im 5.8 , i still have s10e and although battery life is awful , i charge my phone pretty much 3times a day (ive also changed battery recently ) i still cant just accept going for bigger phones , currently deciding between s23 and 13pro , although overall 13pro seems better , its just that i cant stand ios so ..idk what to do
Thank you for a very fair review between two very good phones. I have a pixel 4a that I love. The Samsung smaller size really is nice but the pixel 7 has a better look, to me. I am still not your review showed differences I haven't seen before. Thanks again for making it so through!
Great comparison. I have almost identical priorities, but for me, it came down to price. I paid $499 for the Pixel thanks to Black Friday. And I'm trading in my old Pixel 2 for an extra $100 off. I don't have a Samsung to trade so that's a $300 savings. Otherwise, I would have taken the S22
For sure the Pixel is a fantastic value. I specifically didn't bring up price since there are so many deals available for both phones depending on your carrier so it's hard to judge but just looking at retail price the Pixel is a winner.
people say they buy Samsung for hardware.but for me it’s the software. one UI is just better than stock android . and also i like that Samsung supports their phones for longer period time than Google
Says who? I had the 6 Pro and the only reason I got the 7 Pro was because of the terrible reception and it couldn’t hold 5g UC in many places that my new 7 Pro absolutely can. The new 7’s have a new modem and I see absolutely no difference from my 7 Pro to my wife’s S22 Ultra.
I had no reception issues on the Pixel 7 during my time with it, so I can't comment. I did hear about those issues on the Pixel 6 so I did test extensively. I'm on the T-Mobile network, for what its worth.
Hi John, fine comparison. I also find the S22 as the victor of these 2 phones. Even put against the 7 Pixel Pro. I much prefer the selfie camera of the S22, and the "not so locked into the Googles sphere"-feel.
Hey, thanks for the comparison and I got to see the hardware on the galaxy S 22 is great. I mean you pick that phone up it fits your hand. It fits in your pocket at the battery life in the slight shutter lad kills it. I ended up getting a pixel seven takes a picture quickly. No blur I don’t do much video so it doesn’t matter to me what it comes to software updates. The differences is the galaxy gets a year old you get further and further back on when you get the updates where is if you get a pixel you get it when it comes out so the galaxy S 23 will come out and then the S 22 will be behind it so you won’t get the updates as quick whereas in the pixel it comes out if you still have the pixel seven you get the update the same time as the pixel 8… I got to say Samsung has come along way with their software and I have a S 10 E I use as a running phone and it’s great if they kept that thing updated I would’ve never gotten the pixel seven
I agree with you 100% i returned my pixel 7 and kept my s22. I run my s22 at 60 hz to get all day battery. It looks and feels a lot more premium vs the pixel too. It's just more polished imo.
Be nice is samsung started back up with the FE again cuz I'd love to get my girl a FE due to the plastic back as she's ALWAYS dropping her phone..even with a case and screen protector on. currently rocking A53 5g..sucky processor!!
I used two Galaxy S22 both didn't work like a new phones. Battery was terrible. 📸 Was ok nothing special. No I use Pixel 7 pro and this is wonderful new phone. I used Galaxy S22 with exynos. Finger print reader in Galaxy S22 don't work with screen protector.
I don't really have a preference between One UI and stock android but Samsung has definitely come a long way from the first galaxy phones and all the crap they had loaded on them
I'm sorry but if you have to have a smaller phone because you use it one handed...you are texting while driving. Nothing else would require you to "HAVE" to use it one handed.
That's a hot take. But hear me out: walking the dog, stirring a pot while cooking + looking at recipe, holding my kid's hand, eating an apple, drinking a coffee. Literally anything.......
I disagree, the S22 is not a good phone I own both, i had gotten a S22 for ym birthday, has issue with it. The big problem with the phone is battery I even had to go from 120 to 60 refresh and still it draisn even when you click it off, sucha bad phone. Pixel in other hand last longer, and sorry the Speaker on S22 suck they are just to quiet over the Pixel 7, and it might be bigger but I love the size over the S22. I feel the Pixel si the future, not sure what Samsung has done but they have destroy what made their phone great. Not only do they have a better price, feel it has better features. I know everyone will say i am crazy but since i have pick up this phone it felt good over the S22, always had an issue with it, the big point is the Battery killed the S22, knowing this i know i will be gettign pixel over Samsung now. feel like with mroe work it will the better phone for anyone.
Biased review or simply wrong. For example there aren't two speakers on the bottom of the pixel. While there are two cutouts only one is actually active. However there is a speaker under the screen where your ear is placed for normal calls. When using the phone to play music or as a speaker phone, that speaker under the screen gets significantly louder. That basically means the phone has one bottom firing speaker and a second forward firing. So his complaint about dual bottom firing speakers is invalid and shows he didn't try the phone or research the device.
Also why didn't you show us these grey and washed out selfie videos from the Pixel. I mean you had plenty of time to write up this review. Please complete the various points with demonstrations especially the negatives since those may affect a person's buying decision.
I have both. But for my main I only care about security and privacy. Which is better? For the last 2 years I've been getting security updates on my galaxy phones months late. Been told that it only happened to a small amount of factory defective and broken software phone. Insurance has replaced with a refurbished that was able to update to December 1st security updates. But even though it's a flag ship phone it's supposed to be January and February coming up soon. Does pixel have security update issues? I have trouble logging onto accounts. Apps escalating permissions even with special access change system settings turned off. And wrong credit card charges incompatible with app updates. I don't trust anyone's opinion that didn't experience issues. I'm more interested in someone who has complications and which phone has less issues.
I have both. the Samsung camera is pure trash. it's over saturated, over sharpened trash. You can't even take a pic of an animal. since they never are truly still, every single photo on the samsung is blurry. I love OneUI. Love samsung stuff most of the time but this is the worst camera I have ever used on any phone since iPhone 3GS.

Bro, I'm thinking of buying pixel, but the only issue which is stopping me is the service center, what will you do if the phone demands a service, what if it accidentally breaks ?
@@gokuls165 yeah difficult to get the service, use a strong case bro.
Respectfully disagree, but I'm all about improving moving forward. Which parts felt biased to you? Have you used both phones?
But strong possibility that Samsung has better features than Pixel. Agree?
Samsung is a better phone, that's not being biased
@@JohnScottB I think it came down to John liking the size of the phone from the start. So in the end it was this aspect that was big in the decision, in other words if it was close size would be the deciding factor.
The only biased thing here is your comment. You are definitely a pixel fan boy.
how long does the pixel fully charge? does it really take up to 2 hours?
Maybe it's an age thing, but as I get older I really struggle with the larger phones. Hence I'm interested in this review as I'm looking at switching to the s23 from a pixel 6. Thank you John for the video.
As I use it often to work and game DeX is what is makes me buy samsungs, you would think other brands would have their versions by now
Dude this comparison was heavily favored. 😂
I hope you got paid for it?
after everything you said, i would hve gone for the s22 but that battery makes it out of the question. the cameras look similar though. can a different battery be put in the s22 after market?
It's not about the battery. It's the chipset. Check out the S23 👍
@@JohnScottB out of budget sadly
@@JohnScottB i understand. but coming from a phone that I have to charge 3 times a day, I am kinda done with that.
Its sad that they dont have a plus size model with the same specs and a bigger battery. The plus that they have is a minus on my bank balance
Did not Google first introduce the visor on the Google Nexus 6P?
Not a bad take... but I would call the Nexus 6P more of a camera bar that goes across the full width of the phone. The "visor" design specifically means that it wraps around the side as well, which was new on the PIxel 6.
@@JohnScottB Well, at the time Google called it a Star Trek inspired Visor
I'm confused as to why screen size makes any difference in perception of refresh rate.
Pixel is NOT stock android. Its pixelUI. Would have been nice to see multitasking differences
Where did you fino the s22 wallpaper?
Pretty sure it's preloaded on the phone!
@@JohnScottB can't see that on my s20+
@@AngeloLimiti5 here you go! www.xda-developers.com/download-samsung-galaxy-s22-wallpapers/
That said, I also bought my S22 at launch for $400 because of a Google Fi deal, so there you go...
why does it feel like a biased review?
You tell me!
It definitely is
Great video! Thank you 😊
If you live in a region that sells the s22 with snapdragon chips choose the s22 being the pixel 7 uses the inferior tensor/exynos chip.
Hello Bro.....Samsung S22 and Google Pixel 7 which phone is better?
Did you watch the video?
I can get second hand pixel 7 and s22 about the same price. Which should i prefer?
I hope the video helped with your decision.
avoid s22 at all costs. Terrible terrible battery backup. I recently bought one and sold it to buy s23. Worth every penny
@ArafMahfuz I agree. I made a video comparing the S22 and S23. I'm still daily driving the S23. Great phone. ruclips.net/video/j1CnwVw-rFM/видео.html
If the main focus is camera and durability which one I should pick?
For still images, the pixels are hard to beat! New pixel 8 will be out next month.
@@JohnScottB so what's your opinion to buy? Pixel 7 or S22 SD? please reply. I'm going to buy either of these phone today.
How can nobody talk about DeX when talking about Samsung devices? This is one of the BEST features out there.
Finally someone who appreciates smaller phones even with large hands 😅..my hands arent big im 5.8 , i still have s10e and although battery life is awful , i charge my phone pretty much 3times a day (ive also changed battery recently ) i still cant just accept going for bigger phones , currently deciding between s23 and 13pro , although overall 13pro seems better , its just that i cant stand ios so ..idk what to do
Get android
So basically John needs to get back into the S10e game :D
Many reports of reception issues on the pixel 7 that they didn't fix from the pixel 6.
For me s22 battery was good. I am not a phone addict and only game on my ps5.
Just ordered the pixel 7 I'm sure it seem good to me. The Samsung I have right now isn't nothing to talk about.
What is your average screen on time?
Around 3 hours.
Nice comparison👌❤
I have both and I rather the pixel 7 face unlock and software and the Galaxy design and finger print sensor
Be nice is samsung started back up with the FE again cuz I'd love to get my girl a FE due to the plastic back as she's ALWAYS dropping her phone..even with a case and screen protector on. currently rocking A53 5g..sucky processor!!
I love my A53! Coming from Motorola, it's the fastest phone I've had.
What i bau now? Pixel or samsung ?
Galaxy s22 have 3700mAh battery which melting down 50% within 15 min on video calls. I traded in s22 for 7 pro
Haven't experienced any heating issues on Pixel 7 Pro
Really informative video
The cost makes the Pixel 7 the definite winner. Best price I could find for the Samsung S22 was $699. Google Pixel 7 $499. No brainer.
S22 battery sucks. I got P7 a couple of days ago. Coming from S20 ultra, I find P7 quite small.
Not if you a phone addict or game on it.
Not even mentioning how incredibly annoying the sharp edges of the S22 is to hold. Obviously samsung paid ad.
I don't really have a preference between One UI and stock android but Samsung has definitely come a long way from the first galaxy phones and all the crap they had loaded on them
By far s22 more elegant also Samsung Qualcomm which much better from Google T2
I've noticed you can zoom way in on RUclips to 8X is that a pixel only feature cuz I can't find anybody who's able to do that on their phone? Cheers
@Joseph Espi. Yeah it's kind of cool. You can pause the video or even while it's playing and zoom way in on stuff
It's the new RUclips UI.
Just tested on the S22 (FYI now on Android 13) and I can pinch and Zoom on RUclips up to 8x so I think it's just the new RUclips update.
@@JohnScottB cool
@@JohnScottB no its the youtube update because I could do it and my s21 fe 256gb is still on android 12
@@JohnScottB ...and driving a car...lol
Samsung phones have ALWAYS been not great on battery life, haven't had one since the S10E..I think the pixel and the OnePlus 11 have good battery life
Biased review or simply wrong.
Do a search for "Pixel 7 speaker balance" and let me know if I'm the only person complaining about it.
Pixel 7 is too big, and that’s a deal-breaker for me.
Pixel 7 any day i am saying before watching this video and pretty sure it's not gonna change even after i watch the video
Thanks for that vote of confidence...
Nice review
Awesome video
I got my update!!
Prefer Pixel 7 or 7a
I have both.
"OneUI feels more cohesive" what a joke.
Helpful
Great comparison video. In my opinion the s22 is a better all around phone..
I preffer s22 in photoe
I have both. the Samsung camera is pure trash. it's over saturated, over sharpened trash. You can't even take a pic of an animal. since they never are truly still, every single photo on the samsung is blurry. I love OneUI. Love samsung stuff most of the time but this is the worst camera I have ever used on any phone since iPhone 3GS.
Seems like you been paid by Samsung the comparison is Bias.
Yep, you figured me out. Nice.
Features , camera , bad just barely battery =pixel. Everything else, s22
