Everyone takes Gohan's speech to Cell out of context.
After he tells Cell he isn't a fighter like Goku, Cell responses with "Ok so you don't like to fight, but what's this nonsense about killing me" which Gohan then starts explaining his rage boosts. When Cell tries to get Gohan angry by threatening the z fighters, Gohan states he doesn't know how to control his power. In his mind he thinks "If I really have hidden powers I need to use them, I wanna help but I dont know how". So this whole time Gohan isn't unleashing his power because he doesn't want to, it's cause he can't. Which is why he tried to convince Cell to stop the Cell Games because there is no point in continuing it if he can't release his true power. This is foreshadow when Gohan tells Goku he can't get mad so easily in the Time Chamber. Throughout the series he can't activate his rage on command, someone needs to be in pain or die in front of him for him to use his rage.
Gohan isn't a warrior like Goku and Vegeta are, he doesn't have the same feelings they do in battle. Gohan has never wanted to fight or kill anyone but he does if it means protecting people. But he wasn't able to fight Cell during that time because he couldn't release his rage, which he needed to kill Cell. He did rush in to Cell when the z fighters were getting jumped but got put down quickly. So he focused on his rage which shows his growth. He was cocky against Cell because he was blinded by his anger, the same thing happen to Goku on Namek.
    Good Video tho

This video is very good actually and it's articulated what I've felt about Gohan for a very long time now.
There's a video called "The Character Assassination of Son Gohan" by a RUclipsr called "Casual Anime Guy Explains" and that video and yours have very similar veiws on Gohan's Character, which i definitely agree with strongly.
If there are 2 statements that I am absolutely tired of hearing repeated in the Dragon Ball community, they are:
    1.Gohan hates fighting
    2. Gohan always wanted to become a scholar.
Ok, maybe Gohan doesn't like fighting as much as Goku does, but to say that he hated it is absolute nonsense in my honest opinion. There are so many instances before the cell fight where Gohan was willing to do what needed to be done but, i really don't feel like typing all of them out so I'll just say, if it were kid Gohan from the namek saga that saw the Cell Jrs attacking his friends, he wouldn't hesitate to attack.
As for the "Gohan always wanted to become a scholar" statement fans always claim, i believe that's wrong as well. I always thought that being a scholar was never Gohan's dream. To me, it was always Chi Chi's dream for Gohan. She's the one that always wanted him to study and she even wanted him to prioritize it over saving the earth (Which is stupid #Chi Chi is toxic). The main reason that Gohan probably chose the path of being a scholar was because, it was the only path laid out to him by Chi Chi, she gave him no other choice.
Let's be real though, even if Gohan hated fighting, that shouldn't matter, he has an obligation of protecting Earth because he is the strongest fighter. Even if he likes studying, he should realize that if Goku isn't around and a threat comes, the world will most likely be destroyed and he won't be able to study and live his normal life anyway. It happens too many times that Gohan realizes that he's weak and still decides not to train in the future. Him making the same mistake more than twice really makes him look stupid and irresponsible.
Him refusing to Lock in for any future potential threats because, he doesn't want to, actually sends a very bad message, almost like in Mega Mind when Metro Man refuses to protect the city because he wants to start a music career, it's downright selfish. Uncle Ben said it and we all know it's true, "With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility" Gohan may not feel like protecting Earth but, the people who live there (including his family and friends) are counting on him.
Personally though, i really believe that the main reason Toriyama switched back to Goku as the protagonist was because, he is a more marketable and recognizable character than Gohan could ever hope to be. If you were to look at a silhouette of Goku, you'd know exactly who he was because of his iconic hairstyle that never changes. Gohan doesn't really have that sadly.

Future Gohan was and is the very best version of Gohan.
It’s always been so disappointing that “adult Gohan” never actualized into the same character.
We had a small glimmer of hope with mystic Gohan, where he was serious in his fight with Buu and wore his father’s Gi. But that was quickly dashed.
And you’re right beast Gohan is a cheap knock off of the super Sayian two transformation. With one major exception - it was completely underserved. At least with super sayian two the entire serious had been hinting at his latent potential, and Goku had been open that he wasn’t powerful enough to beat Cell, but that Gohan could. There was a ton of story development and foreshadowing that justified that moment.
Beast Gohan is an underserved cheap knock off, to make money off of nostalgia.

Best iteration of gohan:if im thinking based on my own emotional connection then SSJ2 Kid gohan vs cell.
But with recentsy bias id say current DBS: Superhero Gohan because it showed that he keep his word about continuing to train like he mentioned in the buildup to the ToP. He’s a work in progress but he is trying to find the balance with studies and fighting.

Hot take: grown up Gohan from super. He became a professor, father and husband. When he met with Future Trunks in super was the best part. Trunks said go to your conference we got it big bro.
